Tl;dr exactly as advertised, and very organized and strict about time. Lots of cute cats! Would come again. ===== Sadly I'm not responsible enough to own my own cat, but this was almost the next best thing. My friend and I reserved a spot couple weeks in advance and had a great time! Note that they are very strict about times so do not be late!! Or expect to have any extra time. You get a small drink (e.g. apple juice, soda, etc.) and are let loose in their cute arcade room with various cats. I liked how different each cat was. Some were very energetic and others napped the whole time. The staff are also very knowledgeable and can tell you each cat's personality in detail, if you're curious. Adopting cats from them seemed pretty straightforward, and I think one girl from our session was set to leave with at least one. Overall had a great time with all the cats! Love that they can provide a home for all these cats, and how organized and welcoming the space was. My only complaint is that I think you get booted a little bit before the full hour is up, but I guess that makes sense so that the next group can enter right on time, and accounts for cleaning time in between sessions.

You can ride your bike here or find street parking or take CTA. It's $20/hour to enjoy the cat cade that has arcade games and cats and kittens for adoption. They advised not to allow the dogs to look through the windows because the cats can get scared. I love cats I want a nice place for them to get cats. Adopt adopted. We need a forever loving home that is hopefully indoors OK if you were to allow your cat to go out, they may never return because they don't always know how to get back and they can get hurt by people and other in the community. Any establishment that cares for homeless cats are my kind of place.

Such a cute experience! The admission fee includes 1 hour of cat time and a soft drink. The cats were adorable and the place was kept very clean.

What a cool place!!!! So happy to spend an hour cuddling with the kitties! Well staffed, very clean. Will be back to support!!

Absolutely amazing place! They are focused on the well-being of the cats before anything else, even if that upsets some humans. The cats come first, whether that's in their rules or adoption policies, they follow best practice for those lives they've committed to caring for. Highly recommend making a reservation as they tend to sell out and walk-ins are rare.

Absolutely amazing time! Kitties are playful, and the cats are well socialized. Such a good space available for both kitties and people, and the arcade games are fun, but we are all obviously here for the cats. The value for $20 per person for an hour of time with the cats is decent, and the rules are easy to follow. All information on the cats and their requirements is displayed in the area, and they offer more information for anyone curious. I will definitely be back.

The new location is great - such a cute little space! The cats were so loving and cuddly. Such a great price for a great cause. Totally recommending to my fellow cat lovers - a must visit spot in Lakeview!

What a fantastic place. I absolutely loved it. For $15 a person you can play with cats and kittens for an hour. And there are so many cats! Not just cats, but video games and arcade games as well. While $15 might seem a little steep, that money keeps these kitties out of shelters. They're all available for adoption too. My daughter is dying for a cat, but with a bunny and birds, it's just too dangerous. But we can come here so she can get her kitten fix. For all cat lovers who want to save cats from high kill shelters, book a reservation. It's a happy place to spend some time. Well worth the money.

My 11 year old daughter recently decided we need a cat. Three kids and 1 bearded dragon (her last animal obsession) is enough for this fam so it's not happening, but I did agree to take her and her cat loving friends downtown to The Catcade. The Cascade is a room that's an arcade full of kittens. While I thought arcade + kittens was the most random combination ever it somehow works. I booked a reservation ahead of time for $15/person. There's all sorts of silly rules like you have to have an adult for every 2 kids. And since my daughter invited 3 friends one of their moms was lucky enough to accompany me on this adventure. You can also only have up to 6 people. However, if you have a party of 7 you can rent out the room and have all the kittens and arcade games to yourself. Not a bad idea for a bday party! We got there right in time for our 3-4pm reservation and were told lots more rules on how to play (or how not to play) with the kittens. And then we were let into a room full of cats.. Basically my worst nightmare, but happy to see such happy 5th grade girls. My friend and I made our way to the corner of the room away from the cats. The cats got a lot a love from our girls and others in the arcade and the games were getting played a bunch too, although my daughter was ALL about the cats. She even found one she was certain should come home with us...nope. 1 hour in the cat room was the perfect amount of time and the girls left happy with the soft drinks that come with your reservation in their hands. We even stopped at Jeni's ice cream on this warmish spring day to make it truly the best outing ever. While I can be certain there will be no pet cats in my future, I have a feeling there may be more trips back to The Catcade.

The Catcade was a fun, unique, and very interesting experience. By reserving a 1 hour time slot for $15, you receive a complimentary drink (e.g., can of pop/soda, iced tea, juice, etc.) can interact and play with the 10+ cats roaming around in "arcade" area. There are free arcade games in the room, but I think most people come here to play with the cats. The proceeds goes to supporting all the cats in the shelter. It is a no-kill shelter, so cats stay there until they are adopted or turn old and gray! You have to sign a waiver to enter. There are many rules to the place, and one of the most stressed upon rule is that you are not allowed to pick up the cats! However, there are toys for you to interact with them. Many of them come to you, and sit on you if you hang out long enough on the couch! I knocked down 1 star because the Catcade had a very strict rule about not allowing customers to wait in their lobby area. A young lady was waiting for her friend before entering the play area, but was asked to stand outside in the cold (middle of winter), dark night despite the waiting area being empty except for myself and the owner. Found it odd that she wasn't wait inside the lobby area! Just for safety, warmth, and courtesy reasons, it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I had no idea there would be kittens!

From an outsider's point of view (i.e., a suburban patron reserving time and planning an hour drive each way), this felt like it would be a complete cluster. The reservation website is an intense "do not" list coupled with anxiety cattle prod statements such as, "Reservations cannot be moved less than 24 hours before your reservation. There are no refunds, ever." OR "Seven is the minimum age for visiting The Catcade. There are no exceptions to this rule, please do not ask." I'm honestly shocked we even went through with the reservation process. While the stress and anxiety Catcade's owners impart digitally, the on-site experience is not only less intense, but...blissful. There were two wavers we needed to sign upon entering and rules about keeping doors closed so cats did not escape onto Belmont. Once inside, it was an absolute joy! Not only did they have docile, friendly cats, but a new litter of kittens was bounding about the enclosure! We had an absolutely delightful time with the felines and the (blonde) owner behind the rescue noted that all the cats were adopted within weeks/months. IN SHORT: Despite the volcano of anxiety the organizers impart on their guests leading up to the event, I recommend a visit. Catcade's "meow" is worse than its bite. IF you choose to make a reservation online, triple check your info is right because A) they will not accept any changes to the reservation, and B) they will not respond to email/phone requests to change. Outside of that, enjoy the experience, take pictures, and maybe adopt a loving animal.

I've had my eye on the Catcade for over a year, but haven't actually had an opportunity to be in town until now. I'm so glad I went! Friendly cats everywhere and charming owners. Maybe it was luck, but the culture of the Catcade also draws the best patrons - our hour time slot was spent chatting away with about 10 strangers while bonding over playful kittens who had no sense of fear when using our laps as launchpads. I also was visiting on a whim during a work trip so I was wearing heels and pretty flowy pants that kittens were charmed by - unplanned but made for absolutely adorable photos.

The main part as to why they don't get 5 stars is because they do not answer the phone. You can call and call but they refer you to a voicemail even if you select that your animal is currently in their care or has recently been there for service. It's very inconvenient to not be able to contact them, and in my opinion unsafe if my animal were to be in their care at the time. I went up to the clinic without an appointment and let them know the issue, and they fixed it right away. I waited no more like 5-10 minutes for my kitty to be brought to the back to have her incision stapled, with new medication, a cone, and instructions to bring her back in the following week with no ifs ands or buts. I was appreciative that they fixed the problem so seemlessly, but wish I could've had the comfort of knowing before I got there that it wouldn't have been a problem! All in all I've brought every single one of my pets here for a neuter/spay and will continue doing so

One cat became more skittish, the other batting at the toddler. And then they started marking the house. Literally everywhere. Thousands in damage. We weren't able to be attentive pet owners. I knew we needed to relinquish them and our family of 6 was heartbroken. We also knew it was OUR environment causing the behaviors and acknowledged that. When I reached out to Alive (to their credit, they did respond to my emails) they suggested I separate our toddler and the cat. A toddler? A cat? Mmmmkay. After going back and forth while, they're asking me for medical records, giving more useless suggestions and switching from empathy to being completely dismissive and rude (we also reached out to multiple other shelters that were full), we ended up surrendering to CACC. They had the cats fully vetted, staying together and up on their page in a day ready for adoption. They were so kind and understanding. Guess who now has a "firm hold" on them from CACC? Yep. Alive. Listen, we're eternally grateful that they're going somewhere safe, but did we really have to deal with all the trauma? Go elsewhere to adopt. Seriously.

I want to tell you a story about a dog named Starfish -- and a rescue that let her down…read more In the summer of 2024, a mutual acquaintance sent me a link to a dog named Starfish at Alive Rescue. She was suffering from severe kennel stress, and they were urgently seeking a foster. I answered the call. Within days of bringing her home, I committed to adopting her. She was gentle, curious, and full of potential. I poured everything into helping her thrive: long walks, obedience work, enrichment games, socialization, vet visits -- everything the bestest girl deserved. They said adoption would be quick. Then it was delayed. Then it was ignored. Then it was revoked. The worst moment came when they asked me to take Starfish to an adoption event and present her as available -- even though she had already been promised to me. I didn't realize it at the time, but that was their game: advertise the dog, create demand, and change the plan when it suits them. A classic bait-and-switch -- and it turns out I'm not the only one this has happened to. In fact, I have an email from Anita herself explicitly stating that this is her tactic. (It's attached.) In the end, they took Starfish away. No clear reason. Just control. At first, I believed they had found another adopter -- she disappeared from their site. But I later saw internal volunteer emails showing she was back at the shelter. She was no longer being promoted anywhere, perhaps because they realized they had crossed a line by revoking the adoption and didn't want to draw attention to their error. That silence -- that purgatory -- was incredibly cruel. Not to me, but to Starfish. She sat in a shelter, no longer promoted, no longer seen, while the home she had already bonded with was cut off from her. She didn't reappear on their website for several months. Instead, she bounced between the shelter and various foster homes. It became increasingly clear that Alive Rescue was unable to provide consistent care for her at their facility as she was "too much". She ultimately spent her final months in their custody living in a dog hotel, before finally being adopted -- eight months after she was taken from, and denied, a loving home. I support, and will continue to support, rescue. Before my experience with Alive, I was the proud owner of a rescue dog who was with me for ten years before I lost him. That same rescue -- who knew my home and history -- kindly advocated for me to keep Starfish. But Alive doesn't list a phone number, ignored all outside emails, and clearly didn't care about anyone's opinion but their own. After this experience, I made a choice: I wasn't going to let a narrow-minded, judgmental organization deter me from the cause of dog rescue. I went on to foster four at-risk dogs, all of whom have since been placed in loving homes. But I did learn a valuable lesson -- about the importance of keeping politics and personal judgment out of animal rescue, and always prioritizing what is best for the animal. If you're thinking of working with Alive Rescue, please go in with your eyes open. The matchmaking process is less about what's best for the dog, and more about satisfying the egos of the staff. If you want to rescue from Alive, you won't just need to provide a stable and loving home -- you'll need to be deemed worthy. And most importantly: I urge you not to donate to this organization. Instead, support your local shelter or a foster-based rescue that puts dogs first. The mismanagement I witnessed with Starfish was staggering -- including paying for a dog hotel for months because they were unable or unwilling to provide care at their facility. I don't believe when we donate to a dog rescue, that money should then be spent on a for-profit dog hotel. Alive Rescue's conduct was not only frustrating, it was so deeply counterproductiv that it has discouraged good people from considering adoption altogether. And that is their greatest failure of all.

Surely, it couldn't be that hard to find an organization with no red tape and an easy process to volunteer. Enter: New Leash on Life. I found them about 2.5 years ago on this Yelp page with their address listed downtown. I later realized this downtown address was only a PO Box which means NLOL does not have a physical location/adoption center. The implication of this is that all dogs go straight from rescue into foster homes until they find their forever families. This process can take weeks or sometimes months - depending on the dog. Don't let the uncertainty of a timeline deter you - fostering for New Leash is an absolute dream and here are my top three reasons why: 1. Unparalleled people - the nicest and most sincere adoption counselors. They constantly check up on the pups, their progress, and making sure you as a foster have everything you need. Not just via email- typically by text messages which means a quick response time. 2. Super flexible - a. Vacation or trip? No problem! New Leash will work with you and your schedule b. Work long hours? No problem! New Leash can schedule a walker to come during the day 3. And last but not least, THE DOGS. They really know how to pick them. Every dog that I've fostered has been kind hearted, adorable, and an A++ cuddler. Every dog deserves the right to a loving, safe home. Yes fostering is a short term arrangement, but it's a critical piece to helping these pups find their long term forever. Nothing makes me happier than seeing every dog I've fostered thriving in their forever homes. If you're on the fence about fostering, just try it. Anyone who loves dogs can do it and do it successfully. It is an extremely rewarding process and this organization makes it SO easy.

I got the impression that they work hard to care for the cats they have and that they sometimes get unscheduled drop-offs (when I showed up to get the trap, the woman who met me at the door looked relieved and said that when the doorbell rang, she was afraid it was "another dump") -- which is sort of heartbreaking. I hope people who have the room and the resources to adopt will check out Harmony House, because their residents certainly deserve a second chance.

I can't help but feel as though a lot of these negative reviews are a bit harsh and unfair. I also noticed that the negative reviews did not come from people who actually adopted animals. As someone who adopted 2 excellent cats from Famous Fido, I can not give enough credit for all their work. Animal care is an incredibly serious commitment and one not to be taken lightly. The folks at Famous Fido do ask questions and do not instantly turn over their animals that day. I visited the cats a couple of times before adopting them and was given time to really think it over and prepare our home beforehand. When I went to visit them I was able to enter their space, see how they interact and play. No one hovered over me and told me which cats I should get. I actually appreciated this process because I got to know the animals. It was a bit of a process but they wanted to ensure the animals were going to a good home, which I deeply respect. Being a rescue they take in a lot of animals from rough situations and rehabilitate them and put them in a safe environment. One of the cats we adopted came in with serious health issues and they took care of all of her medical needs, she is now fully recovered to the sweetest cuddliest angel. I could not recommend Famous Fido enough. The cats that we adopted are well adjusted, well-behaved, and comfortable with socializing.Thank you, Famous Fido for helping our little guys be happy and heal before having people adopt them. Just be sure you are ready to be taking on this commitment and the responsibilities of having an animal join your family. Once you are it truly is an absolute joy.

This business needs to be shut down. It's like a filthy horror show with poor helpless dogs. The…read moresmell is overwhelming and the place is squalor. I was so shaken when we left with the poor dog they had not yet fed by late afternoon. They did not bathe or groom the dog prior to our adoption. Poor thing had burrs and crusty stuff in his fur. He was clearly afraid of them as he would bark and squirm and fight against them trying to shove him in our crate. It was all so upsetting we ran out. Once we were out of there the dog was completely normal. Looking out the car window, snuggling, happy as can be. I cannot stress enough how horrible this place is. I was horrified.

I am a crazy cat lady. With that said, I always look for excuses to pat more cats I can find. On…read moreone October off-work day, I made a reservation for the "Tree House Humane Society" cafe to see some cats in West Rogers Park. Reservation was done online and no deposit was needed. I paid $10 onsite which included a drink or pastry of my choice and 30 min play time with these feline beauties. When I arrived at the cafe at the scheduled time, the young lady at the cafe informed me there was only one cat in the cafe area but offered me to see some more cats upstairs. Honestly, that was a great trade-off even though she kept apologizing to me for the inconvenience. I was able to enjoy my iced chai and visited some kittens and adult cats in different colonies. Toys and hand sanitizers were provided as we entered and exited each colony. The barista lady introduced me to the cats that were awake for some playtime. Too bad 30 minutes went by way to fast and it was time for me to leave. "Tree House Humane Society" is near the 49B (Western) bus stop. I personally had to take 3 busses from my house to get there, so I do recommend driving since parking should not be too hard to find. There are spots by the building for the patrons I assume.

After reviewing all of the adoptable felines, we fell in love with a small 1 year old cat that they called Toaster. She is perfect. Because of Bissell's Clear Out The Shelters" special (May 1- May 17) adoption fees were reduced from $115 to $70.
