It kind of reminds me when I was a kid and we would go to the toy store and get to see so many options. I was looking for a simple Family Bingo set and was lucky enough to find one. The staff was very helpful in locating what I was looking for.

Thus far I have good experiences with shop. It's not an easy Buisness model to run a hobby shop. RC cars are designed to break in certain areas to prevent other areas from getting damaged, and ordering parts and repairing the RC cars and planes is a HUGE part of the hobby and an important learning lesson for kids. That being said when I went in there were only kids working the shop, but one of the gentlemen/kids was pretty knowledgeable. I think for what it is this is a good shop with a variety of things to offer. A 1 star review about not being able to use the bathroom is just rude and should not be warranted. I also thought for the stores location being in a upscale neighborhood the prices are decent. Also, about 3 years ago I stopped by with my younger brother and they let us drive the RC cars around in the parking lot which was fun.

So another relocation, but not just down the street this time. In 2023, The wrecking ball was…read morecoming for the Galleria mall and Westchester Trains & Hobbies became refugees again to find a new home. Unfortunately for me, the new place is 25 miles further north at the Jefferson Valley Mall. This is as far as you can go in Westchester county because Putnam county is just across the street. Like most malls across the country, JVM is not doing great, with not a lot of tenants or customers and it just seems to be barely hanging on. At least their anchor store, Macy's hasn't bailed yet. I'm hardly ever up this way, but when I am, I'll stop in at WTH to see any new stuff (and to see the old stuff). The new store has almost as big a footprint as the Galleria store, but way bigger than the previous White Plains mall one, which got the wrecking ball also (I'm not sure if that's a good omen). Everything was moved here, every plane, train & automobile (literally) and even Barbie (but no Oppenheimer). John told me he has big plans for the new store and to check back for new inventory soon. Each aisle has a hobby specialty. The biggest proportion is in the back where all the model trains reside. Glass cabinets are filled with vintage Lionel trains and other well known brands. The Hot Wheels collection made it over, as well as the Barbie and Hess truck collections. But my main hobby focus are model airplanes and ships and their collection of old kits is pretty impressive. They get new old kits all the time by buying up old collections and reselling. This trip, I got (3) 70's-80's nostalgic plastic airplane kits that I've had or wanted since I was a kid. I could wander the aisles here all day and they would have to kick me out. Maybe I'll go back after I grab some lunch at the food court...

My friends and I go 2-4 times a month to play commander. There's a table pass system in which you spend $10 and get a voucher that lets you stay and play and can be exchanged for $10 off of a purchase. This is fair and we've never had a problem with this. We typically end up spending ~$20-$30 each when we come and play anyway (more when we buy sets). The problem is how this voucher is limited in its use. My friend and I wanted to split a pizza, but were told we couldn't use our vouchers together in one order. A whole pizza here is $24, which is already fairly high priced; but because we had to do separate orders for a half pizza each we ended up spending $32 total for a whole pizza. Quite frankly, it's exploitative and greedy. Until this policy changes, our group will be playing elsewhere for our weekly magic. UPDATE: The owner's response to this was to explain the entire business model and how if he let customers spend their $10 voucher however they wanted, he would have to charge double that for people to play there, and then force people to get a $20 voucher on top of that. Well Jared, I may not be able to understand the mental gymnastics it takes to justify extortion of your customers, but I can see greed when it appears. I will not be feeding this greedy toad and would not recommend anyone else does. (:
