I came here with 4 other friends. We arrived right after they opened at noon. We each got the lunch special: sizzling plate, Seafood Medley. It came with 2 prawns, 2 clams, 2 clayfish, 2 mussels and a choice between fried fish or chicken. I had mine with the fried fish. Because they ran out of clawfish, we got a substitute of 1 mussel and 1 prawn. I was also given a choice of sauce or flavor for my seafood. I had mine with the Captain Boil sauce which was a combination of all their sauces combined together. The food tasted good. The shrimp was not too fresh and therefore the meat got stuck to the shell. The flavor was good though. We algo got the lobster poutine to share. That was quite tasty. When I walked into the restaurant, one thing I noticed was the bleach smell. I guess they have just cleaned the restaurant with bleach before it opened. Service was ok. Overall the food wasn't bad. Prices were ok. There are free parking at the back.

    1lb King Crab Legs

I stopped in on a random Saturday night because I really like these creole fusion boils...I got the king crab boil (1 lb) and shrimp boil (1 lb) with corn & potatoes & one w/a boiled egg. I did the captains flavor...the thing with these boils are that you're going for the boil & not so much the flavor if that makes sense. I didn't have a reservation & it took a minute to be acknowledged by staff, then added to the wait list - they closed at 10p & I got there about 830p & they were kinda like if you're not seated with enough time you kinda gotta deal with it. 3 stars for the low-key rude entry/wait, small servings & vibe of the experience. Bacon wrapped scallops, Brussel Sprouts were a vibe tho .

    Lobster bisque with garlic toast

I am a big fan of seafood boils but it's really hard to find a decently good one here in the lower mainland because most of them slowly disappeared over the years and in the end we are left to barely any choices. Tried all the different locations of chain and they are all the same, it's okay, nothing spectacular. A very casual setting and atmosphere with borderline okay services. Anyways, here were what we ordered during our most recent visit; 1. Lobster bisque with garlic bread. This is something new here? First time trying this out here. Surprising it's pretty good, actually a lot better then some of the fine dining places I been there. Except for the raw green onions, so Asian. The raw green onions were really not necessary, silly garnishing idea. 2. Scallops wrapped with bacon. It was abit dry but not too bad, but as I say. Not a fan of having my bacon deep fried. 3. Mix and match (clams and mussels) with corns. It was fresh and the captains boil flavour was tasty 4. Snow crab legs with okras and sausages. It is what it is, frozen products so can't compare to live ones. Overall, there really aren't any choices for a seafood boil if you are craving for one unless there are once awhile a seafood boil special during an event at certain restaurants. Usually their combo package here is okay for its price but if you are going to order the crabs and lobsters, the bill can be pretty high. Nothing to wow about at this place and don't know if I recommend it or not, best to ask your stomach! Or if you are one of those who can't even unwrap an imitation crab stick then you might as well give this place a try.

    Matey's feast

We got the Matey's Feast (Sailor's 2LB) - Our feast came with a shrimp basket and the shrimp was raw, it was sent back with an apology. We then got another basket and that was also raw. - The fried rice was drenched in butter, same with the Captains Boil sauce. Everything just tasted like butter. - Nice staff - they're kinda awkward but nice - We only got half a potato and half corn on the cob which wasn't enough more than one person - The waitress dropped some napkins on the ground while seating us then put them on our brown paper table where we were eating but replaced them once she realised what she had done - The sausage, half corn and half potato were served in a basket of white grease and oil - The mussels were okay, I got one with a nasty taste. We got the headless shrimp too and they tasted fine. Nothing special about the seafood tbh but everything was filling

Having been to multiple Captain's Boil locations I can definitely say the quality of their seafood is pretty consistent, and this store in particular, lives up to the expectation. We made a reservation beforehand to avoid the lines, which proved to be a good idea, as the tables were over 80% full when we arrived for Thursday dinner. We saw that they had a combo menu with pre-selected items, but we opted for the a-la-cart option because turns out lobster was cheaper than dungeness crab at the time (combo requires you to add $8 extra to substitute the crab for lobster). We also got snow crab legs, clams, 4 corns, and potato fries along with the lobster. Their captain boil sauce is definitely the best to pair with the seafood and you must get at least a little bit of spiciness to get the full flavour. They provide free water for every customer and they come to refill it quite frequently so you can eat all the spicy food you want. The seafood are served in bags like the over locations and you're supposed to eat them with your hand. They provide scissors and the crab clamp to break the shells. The seafood was really fresh and the crab shell was pretty easy to break open. The potato fries definitely lives up to the expectation in terms of the large portion size and freshly fried and extra crispy. Dip it in the Captain's Boil sauce for extra flavours. Overall a really satisfying meal and I would definitely be back for more! The bill came down to $26 after tax per person, which is reasonable for seafood.

This location is a hit or miss but mostly a miss. Yesterday was my last time coming to this location. Our server was okay as she did not seem like she wanted to be there at all. Our server misheard one of the orders on the flavour but I didn't ask to switch it as I didn't realize until later. The flavouring was okay, it was mostly oil in our bags and the seafood did not taste fresh at all. It had an off taste. A lot of the clams were not open (have gone bad) so it was such a waste to have ordered. The sweet potato fries were the only good thing from our order. UPDATE: Ordered from here about one hour ago for my bf for lunch and he found a tiny hair inside...

The captains boil lunch special with fish is the best seafood deal you can get! I love eating this and when I am craving seafood this is my go to! They have this lunch special during a special limited time during the day from like 12-4pm or so. The sizzling plate is so good! I love it when my food is hot and burns when you get the captains boil sauce (medium spicy level) that is doused in the seafood. I always choose fish because it's deep fried rather than chicken, which seems to be boiled and the teriyaki sauce for the meat is great to pour over the fish and mix together with rice. The seafood comes with 2 crawfish, 2 shrimp, 2 mussels and 2 clams. It's definitely a seafood delight. So grab that apron and gloves and get diggin' for a seafood lunch at this great spot!

Captain Boil is a big franchise seafood restaurant. It has more than 30 restaurants across Canada in different cities. There are five locations in the Great Vancouver area. I have been to the two locations before: one is on Robson St. Downtown and another one is on Kingsway Vancouver. Both of the locations served quite delicious seafood. Very enjoy eating at Captain Boil. Captain Boil Kingsway Location is at 3309 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC V5R 5K6. The same as Robson St. location, is a super busy street in Vancouver. Many restaurants are on the street. Such a great location to open a restaurant on this street. I have been to this location twice with my friends and fiances. The first time was all you can eat Mussels night. The second time was lunch combo. For all you can eat Mussels dinner, three of us had 2lbs mussels each plus fries. It was awesome. The big plastics bags were full of fresh seafood. Yummy! Captain Boil's Lunch combo is another great combination. Fish or Chicken Teriyaki with rice with Seafood Assortments (2 Crawfish, 2 Mussels, 2 Shrimps, and 2 Clams). The total is only $13, which is such a great deal. Super hot rice with teriyaki sauce on top is super delicious. Definitely, we should go back to Captain Boil again.

Went to this place to celebrate our friend's birthday and our experienced was good. The place is not busy when we came and staff are friendly. We're very disappointed with sauce lack of garlic and too much oil comparing it with our last visit and at their Richmond branch. The male washroom is too tight and very cold.

    Ronnel S.

With friends we visited this talk of the town restaurant.Lunch time and a bit busy but still we got a table for 6 right away.Easy to find restaurant, big place most likely it can house more than 50 persons.Waiter service. The decors are great its like i am at larry"s lobster mania,i love the walls,Tables are clean and the floor is not sticky. The server is very friendly despite he is busy, not bad as what i read in other reviews. We ordered the sea food fried rice..olalah all of us loved it we actually ordered another one,we had the shrimp, mussels, clam, okra, corn, the calamari and other things from the menu. No single complaint all were tasty, fresh and good. Foods were serve in a transparent plastic that is one thing i do not like in this place, hot foods in plastic is not very healthy, they can at least use a metal bowl to throw everything in there instead of plastic. The disposable bib is very low quality, the chairs are very heavy,i knew it because we need to move two of them and uses two tables. Prices are reasonable and i guarantee that all the sea foods we had during that time were all fresh.Parking is hard to find, metered one,or other parking owned by other stores. Noise level is average, wash room is clean,Good for group, family and kids(there is chicken in the menu(kiddo),Accept card, credit and cash. Not a bad place to enjoy your sea food cravings.I will return for sure..

High expectations were not met. Friend and I decided on the mussels and Dungeness crab. The meaty mussels with garlic sauce complemented well while preserving much of the ocean taste. However, the Dungeness crab left little to be desired. If I had asked for a SHELL of a crab, I'd have gone down to the beach to collect it there myself. I had thought the vast meat dissolved into the delicious boil sauce to which my very disappointed friend uttered, "Like magic?" The waitresses did not care nor come to our table even once to ask how everything was. This was not a cheap meal. Will not be coming back as there are plenty of other great places for fresh seafood in beautiful Vancouver. P.S. See photo of disappointed friend

    Kris S.

$12 lunch deal for a tasty full of seafood (fish, crayfish, shrimp, clams and mussels) is a must try. Cant wait to go back here. We tried the captains boil sauce, so so so good. This location has lots of seat during lunch time. Gets really busy at dinner time. Come by if youre in the area. Worth a try!

This restaurant serves steamed seafood in plastic bags with various spices and broths, creating a unique and flavorful meal. We visited during their AYCE promotion -- shrimp, mussels, and fries for $46.99 per adult. Here's how it works: Choose Your Flavour: Cajun, garlic, lemon pepper, or their signature Captain's Boil (a combo of all flavours). Choose Your Heat Level: From non-spicy to FIRE . Each bag contains about 1 lb of seafood. We tried different flavours and spice levels, and while all were delicious, our favourites were the Captain's Boil and the Garlic flavour. As spice lovers, we found the medium heat just right, but next time, we're ready to take on the FIRE level! The seafood was fresh, expertly cooked, and bursting with flavour. This spot is perfect for groups, especially during their promotion -- big savings and lots of fun. They have multiple locations across Metro Vancouver, so check them out! Whether it's a family gathering or a fun outing with friends, The Captain's Boil is a must-try for seafood lovers. We'll definitely be back! Food: 4/5 Should Try! From the gold railings to coat check to a piano on the stairs to an old school oyster bar showcasing their wares proudly on display, Joe Fortes has a lot going on for it. But perhaps more so than anything else is an amazing happy hour for anyone who loves oysters. Service Before diving into the food let's talk about service. The servers here are dressed in the old full whites with black ties and give you full service. They have an expert knowledge of the menu and are willing to give you any and all opinions if asked. They check on you frequently and make sure you're having a good time with enough banter to make it friendly and welcomed. Happy Hour - Alcohol With that out of the way, we can talk about the happy hour. Yes, they have a great deal when it comes to their house red and white wines where you can get 6 oz for $6 CAD or 9 oz for $9 CAD. Their beers range from $5 CAD to $8 CAD and their cocktails are all under $10 CAD. Happy Hour - Food They have some incredible truffle fries, cut thick and sprinkled with parmesan as delicate as snow for $9 CAD. Their crab & corn fritters are slightly chewy but packed with flavor and come at $12 CAD. The coconut prawns sound just as delicious as they taste and come at $13 CAD. I would avoid the Steelhead ceviche though as it was more mashed avocado than ceviche. However, HOWEVER, the star of the show are their oysters. Coming at $1.75 an oyster, you get to be as gluttonous as you'd like whilst keeping your pockets happy. Vancouver is known for their amazing seafood and with this happy hour from 3 PM - 5 PM it gives you 2 hours to fill your belly with as many oysters as you can. Even if you ordered 50 oysters you would be under $90 CAD. I should know, I did that. Last Thoughts Even without the incredible happy hour Joe Fortes would be a restaurant you have to visit during your trip to Vancouver. With a great selection of food on their menu, wait staff that feel old world and professional, and a setting fit for the city, the happy hour is just the bonus that makes visiting Joe Fortes even more enticing. Come with an appetite, leave with a smile.
