Great candy shop in downtown Sonora! The owner is a sweet lady and always has a smile on her face. There is a wide selection of different types of candy ranging from chocolate, gummies, sour belts to Boston baked beans and lemon drops. Prices were fair and the store itself is very cute. Reason for only 4 stars-- some of the sour gummies I got were really hard :( she did offer to replace them but it seems like the entire cubby was stale. read more

We love The Candy Vault - from the copper door, the creaky wood floors to the extensive selection and friendly service. They have just about every candy you can imagine plus some fun/funky gifty items (bags, lunch boxes), sour cream and onion crickets (yrs, crickets!) and a huge selection of bacon flavored/scented items. There is indeed a vault of candy which I have never noticed in the many years we've visited! Through a vault door the original Charlie and the Chocolate is playing and Willy Wonka candies are in display. They not only have per packaged candy, but also hand crafted truffles and other choco lately treats. They also have ice cream and floats, but it looks like the ice cream isn't back until April. The woman running the shop was really friendly and helpful. She also offered us a sample of a peanut butter chocolate malt ball. Mercy!!! Delicious! We all found something to buy.. The girls Nerds ropes, Harry Potter chocolate frogs, Junior Mints, a "natural" Milky Way and I scored a candy from my childhood in the 80's - Whatchamacalit! UPDATE 10/20/12 Came here since my last visit and found out that the place is reopened and under new ownership! The store is still the same they have not changed it at all. I'm gonna miss this place so much ;( One of the best candy places I've ever been too. And it's old fashioned...which is a vibe I like. The store is pretty fun for kids. We spent a about $20 of candy, the toffee was a disappointment. It's more white than it was a caramel color...where'd all the butter go?! Quality just isn't there, but basic candies such as Pop Rocks etc are fine. read more

When visiting Sonora we stopped into the candy vault for some road trip snacks. This quaint shop offered a great selection, especially in the taffy section. What impressed me most is what happened when we left. Miles down the road, (too far to turn back) I realized I had left my Yeti cup on the counter, when I'd paid. I called and asked them to get it to the bridal store that we would be returning to in a few months. Although the cup didn't make it to the bridal shop, I was so surprised to find that the candy shop had carefully wrapped my cup and stowed it away for my return. What great customer service! Probably the best store I've been in while in Sonora. Lots of candy goodness to gawk at and especially enjoyed taking a gander at the Willy Wonka movie playing inside the vault. Was surprised to see pics of the child actors from the movie all grown up, wow... Buuut, there was a bat laying right outside the front door (still alive) and was flapping it's wings, I was grossssed out. My two daughters ages 7 and 3 were so excited to come to the Candy Vault. They were all over the store finding new and funny candy that they wanted to try. My Mom was with us and of course she let them get at least 4 pieces each. My daughter was looking for bacon mints and the male owner said they didn't have any, but offered her a different kind of bacon candy. She didn't want it but he apologized and was very friendly about it. The girls especially liked the vault part and knowing that it used to be a bank a long time ago. We will definitely be back when we are in Sonora again. I'm sure they will find new goodies that they missed this time. read more

My fiance has been casing this joint waiting like those old Mervyn's commercials with his face pressed against the glass, chanting "Open, Open, Open" and finally the Candy Vault did - and he's been like a kid in a....wait for it...candy store ever since. (I had to go with the full cheese there) I, on the other hand, have been trying to diet for our upcoming nuptials...but he finally convinced me to go with him last week. The Candy Vault has EVERYTHING! And I mean EVERYTHING! Even Flicks and Gilliam sticks! Who has those these days? No one! Huge selection of Jelly Bellies, taffy and all of your "normal" or current candy staples, plus a bunch of candy you can get by the pound. They even have truffles and ice cream. To the previous yelper who said this place is expensive - it's NOT. Prices are cheaper than those mall candy stores for bulk candy. Every time I come here, I feel like such a kid in a candy store (yeah..)! I love gummies, so I grab myself a bunch of gummies whenever I'm there. They have a wall dedicated to candies you can buy by the pound, and they also have powder candy and other small candies. The store has a display for some (homemade?) unique chocolates which I've never tried, but they look super decadent. They also offer ice cream, with some flavors sound amazing and large waffle cones. Something I really enjoyed about the store is the large shrine they have in the back for Willy Wonka. They have an exhibit that includes the many varieties of Willy Wonka candies, as well as the original film and character biographies. In addition, there is a wall of old small mailboxes that double as candy storage boxes. These antique mailboxes offer some old-fashioned goodies in small boxes, even some that you thought were phased out! This candy store has pretty much every candy you could ever remember or dream about. If there is a candy bar you remember from your childhood that you can't find elsewhere, The Candy Vault is your place. There's also a lot of retail items, such as lunch boxes, gifts, and small toys. I would probably come here for all my candy, but it does get a tad expensive (especially since it's in Sonora). A prime candy spot, something great for the weekends with your loved ones after lunch. read more

When I walked into this store I was immediately whisked away to my childhood. Upon my eyes were rare delights I hadn't seen in decades. I was excited to get a scoop or two of ice cream, some truffles to take home, and a candy apple for my husband. After exploring the store, we walked up to the register where, a woman with four of her adult family members were ordering ice cream. When the lady behind the counter removed her mask to speak to the also unmasked customer, I took a second look at the other staff working behind the counter. No masks on any of the three. As an establishment that serves food in the Time of COVID, this is completely unacceptable. To have staff members preparing the ice cream cones and handing them off to the customer is frankly dangerous. With Sonora being a destination, customers are coming from all over and there's no telling who could be a carrier. My husband and I turned around and walked out. I'm all for supporting businesses during this challenging time but felt compelled to write this review as a warning to others who are concerned about spreading COVID. read more

This place is pretty cool. What makes it cool is the fact it's in an old bank. The history nerd in me loves that. But if you were to take this candy shop out of the bank it would be pretty boring. It had ho-hum candy. I'm sure as a kid I would of been drooling. I liked the glass case full of chocolates. I ended up getting a couple different ones, and they threw one in for free. Candy, candy, candy! What more can I say! When I was a kid I was never allow to go to a candy store because we didn't have much and it was a waste of money, if we did. Therefore, now I'm all grown up and I could stay my whole pay check here! Which I wouldn't do, maybe just half. Anyways, the wide selections of candies made it hard to choice them, because I wanted all. This was recommended to me as an alternative to Nelson's Candy Kitchen and I actually like Nelson's better as they make many more of the treats offered while The Candy Vault is mostly retail, especially nostalgia and hard to find stuff like their whole bacon-flavored candy section. Even though I like Nelson's better (especially their milk chocolate covered Maraschino cherries), I ended up spending WAY more at The Candy Vault and will definitely make it a stop when I'm in the area. This place is amazing!! I had heard all the hype for many months before I finally made it in while in town. It's one of the better candy stores I have ever been to! I was so surprised. They have it all! I live the old fashioned section, the variety alone is just over the top. We took the kids and had a blast even though we didn't let them leave with bags full of candy. The prices are cheap. We found some things cheaper than the place in the mall! They have really turned this store into a willy wonka wonder world complete with root beer floats!! I called ahead on Valentine's Day to see if they had the candy my boyfriend likes. Nancy picked up the phone, and was extremely short, as if answering a customer's question about whether the business carries a certain product was a waste of her time. When I asked if they had chocolate turtles, she informed me that they called them "pecan paws" and acted like I was stupid for not knowing this. I try to support local businesses, but anyone who acts like customers are an annoyance won't be receiving my money. read more

I was visiting the area with my family a few days ago and we decided to check out this candy shop. Upon walking in, I was delighted with all the different candy and the overall decor of the place. After checking everything out we went up to the counter to order some ice cream and snow cones, but it seemed as if no one wanted to serve us. One of the guys behind the counter, that we thought served the ice cream, just stood there washing the same blender for nearly 10 minutes. Eventually we asked another guy behind the counter if we could order something and he just stood there squinting at us saying absolutely nothing. After trying to ask another question he got really rude with my dad and even asked him if he knew how to read properly. We are Japanese but interpret that how you would like to. Overall this was just a really weird experience for us because they were ready to serve others who came in the store with at least an okay attitude, but it seemed like they singled us out and tried to make us feel as out of place as possible. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, so if your in town head to Nelson's Candy instead. read more

This little shop is adorable! A kid's paradise (adults, too!). What you can find here is a quaint little candy and gift shop that used to be a bank. The back room was the vault and now they have Willy Wonka's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory playing non stop in there, along with old school type candy and toys. The walls of the main part of the shop are lined with bins of all kinds of candy... jelly bellies, taffy, chocolates, gummies, etc. The staff here is also super nice. You definitely need to stop in here and indulge yourself next time you are in downtown Senora. read more

We were riding through town today and stopped to stretch our legs. We walked into The Candy Vault and "the candy man can" from Willy Wonka was playing! I was immediately transported back to my childhood! I have never seen so many different shapes of gummies in my life...they even had gummies shaped like penguins! While I selected a gummy of each shape my husband was loading up on chocolate covered almonds and walnuts. We also bought some of the peanut butter malt balls we sampled...delicious! Lastly we got a pack of humorous gum for my grandpa and everything added up to a little under $15. Very reasonable and worth every penny! We were frequent shoppers of this establishment for the last several years and it was one of our favorites! We were unable to come in for quite some time and we thought it would be nice to make a visit and show my mother how awesome it was with all the nostalgic candies they have from her past, but that wasn't the case! Unfortunately, it has not only changed owners, but a lot has changed, including quality of candy and service, they have even gotten rid of most of the nostalgic candy as well. The guy (owner) behind the counter was nice enough, but the lady (owner) was extremely rude! I was just inquiring about the peanut butter caramel cups they use to sell and she rudely insisted they don't make them anymore. I know they do still make them, but I guess she will only go through one candy vendor (sad). The previous owners would at least tell you they would try to find them, but not her, she completely and rudely shuts you down! Well, I will tell you, this is a small community and attitude like that will NOT do your business well at all and word gets around. We spent $27 yesterday and the quality is not there anymore! We will be taking all of our business to Columbia Candy Kitchen, were it's made fresh and they are as sweet as their candy. Will NOT recommend! read more

This is the worst candy shop I've been to which is a shame Becuase it looks really good. Customer service was non existent and when they finally helped it wasn't the best. They're ice cream sizes were confusing and seemed to add unnecessary steps. Friendly service and wonderful atmosphere in this old timey candy store. If you're a candy addict, don't miss this place. The candy is mostly in bulk, plus an extensive collection of Jelly BelIies to choose from. I am told that the espresso truffle was excellent. As for me, the Walnettos and taffy are favorites.
