This was the perfect spot for my Moms birthday dinner, and it being so close to home was the icing on the cake! We brought my two kids (12 and 5) to the Million Dollar Quartet and we all had the best time, they even got menus with crayons to color on. The acting and the singing were spectacular. We had great seats and our server was super friendly. I had the "Home for Christmas" dinner, my mom Got the Chicken cordon bleu, and my husband got the Prime Rib. The kids got chicken tenders and everyone got salad with ranch and rolls with butter. Everyone had a lovely meal, and the show was very well done in a nice, clean facility, with lots of parking. The CATS show was amazing! The talent was incredible. The singing, dancing and music was fantastic! Also the costumes were really fun as well. The food was meh....... They did have gluten free options and also a vegan and vegetarian option. Menu was clearly labeled. You get to have a choice off the entree list and will also get a small side salad. Anything beyond that you will need to pay for. Creme Brule was not good. Also the veggie tray with the artichoke dip. The dip was not good, none of us could actually eat it. BUT all that said, I would come back for an upcoming show. I wont be buy any extra deserts or appetizers and will probably plan on eating before. What a great show, Disney's High School Musical. I went with my daughter, a girlfriend and her daughter and it couldn't have been more fun. The food was great an of course the service and attention to detail was perfect. My friend has food allergies and they worked very hard to accommodate her. Don't waste your time and money on this high school level performance theatre. I went on July 19th to see 'Anastasia' and couldn't be more disappointed. The stage set up was extremely elemental which must have been funded by the Dollar store. The food would have been better if it had been catered by Burger King or McDonald's, seriously! It's my opinion that every one deserves a refund. Really with a lackluster show one would at least expect a decent meal just for making the trip. My advice save your money and go out to a nice restaurant for a decent meal and maybe just take in a movie for a better show. read more

Had a really great date night here. White Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie so my husband bought tickets for this ages ago. I feel like dinner theater has gone out of style as we were some of the youngest people there (both nearing 40) but I had a great time. If you're looking for a different thing to try I would suggest you give this a shot! Food was pretty good. Honestly my expectations are not super high when they have to mass prepare for 300 people but the steak was cooked correctly. Drinks were strong (3 drink limit). I was there to see Anastasia. It was a very interesting play and very accurate as to how things really were. Clearly the actors were pro's. There voices were excellent and the singing was on key. There was even some ballet and tap dancing during the second act. Be prepared though as it will be about 10:15 to 10:30 when you leave, it takes the whole night but will worth it and very entertaining and interesting. I took one star away for three reasons. One the food might be a little underwhelming when you look at the price you paid for the ticket. The table arrangements are great if you happen to get just the right seat. If not you might be staring at the back of someone's head all night. I can recall the details rather well of one ladies head, I was staring at it all night long and bobbing my head around to see the action on stage. If they could do anything about the view, it would really improve the experience. Lastly, I had a waiter that was an actor, not a main one but still played a couple of roles. He did take care of the table but his comments were not exactly what you would expect out of a waiter. I can't wrong him for the service but the commentary was "unexpected" and kind of strange. Still I can say the whole night was good and I do plan to come back when they have something interesting playing. They do only one play at a time and it appears to play for about 3 months so if you don't like the next one, you will have to wait for some time potentially to see another one of interest. read more

As wonderful as they are the food is opposite. it is frozen and barely warmed in a steam table before served. This visit I ordered a salad that was supposed to have roasted vegetables on it and I added chicken. The vegetables and chicken were FROZEN on top of my plain bed of lettuce. I sent it back asking they be cooked. it came back barely thawed. I could eat the obviously frozen - dumped from a box sweet potatos and veggies, but the chicken breast was still frozen in the middle. I have never been served a more awful meal. the wonderful server did bring me some soup while I waited but I was amazed that someone could serve such terrible food as this salad. read more

During all my travels, I never cease to wonder about the talent I run across in the neatest places. Whether it's at the Mena House in Cairo, Egypt or northern Colorado. Watched the Church Basement Ladies on Valentines Day. I didn't know the story and didn't know what to expect. I found the show to be funny and somber at the appropriate times. All performers were top tier. Unbelievably good singing voices and the dialogue was witty and kept my attention the entire time. To start, they offer champagne or sparkling cider. The champagne was - meh. Nothing wrong with it but once you have Dom..... there's no going back. Food was surprisingly good. Wifey had the prime rib; albeit it looked more like a ribeye. It had a cranberry - butter concoction dollop on top which was interesting and tasty. I had (I probably shouldn't admit) lasagna. I don't like prime rib (wished I had though) and nothing else appealed to me. However, the lasagna tasted like mom makes and the beans/carrots side was very good. I was happy with it. Dessert at intermission was a shared almond cheese cake. Darn good. My only complaint was the decaf wasn't hot. Not cold but not throwing steam. So, will we go back? Yep. Will I take my mom? Yep. Should you go? Yep. Cost is around 68 bucks per person. This includes the meal and show. You can spend more for a food upgrade (ex. prime rib) and of course the price doesn't include tip. We went yesterday for the matinee of Nunsense. It was my first time to the playhouse, and to dinner theater in general. The drive up from Denver is easy - all I-25. Parking was very easy, especially since we arrived early. We went in as soon as doors opened and discovered a cozy interior. Two fireplaces across from one another, although only one was burning. Restrooms were adjacent to the main area, with plenty of stalls. We arrived with plenty of time to socialize, check in, and figure out seating. We had a larger group (16), spread out in several different sections (we didn't go through group sales). We walked up the steps, and were directed to someone who led us to our seats. My friend and I were at a split table, meaning we were seated with people who were not with our group. They were season ticket holders, and filled us in on how everything works. They were lovey, and fun to talk with over lunch and during intermission. The ticket price included several nice sounding meal options, all of which my table mates ordered from. I'm gluten free and called ahead to confirm they could accommodate me. There were a couple of GF options from the included menu, and several more from the premium meal options. I was in the mood for something hearty, so I ordered the prime rib from the premium menu, medium rare. My meal was excellent, especially paired with the bottle of Malbec (my friend and I split it). We skipped dessert, but I had coffee (served during intermission). The playhouse was very comfortable, and I enjoyed watching the musical from our seats. The actors were also servers, and it was hysterical having Mother Superior check in on us during intermission. Great acting, and a truly playful cast. I was originally going to give 4 stars because Nunsense wasn't my favorite, but decided I am reviewing the theater and my experience there was fantastic. 5 stars! read more

This is a COVID-era review of kid's musical (no dinner). The theatre removed half of the table and chairs, restricted seating to one party per table, required masks to be worn in common areas, and seated each party one at a time, thus reducing the chances you'll be within 6 feet of anyone you don't know or be exposed to the virus. This is a wonderful delight of a dinner theater. The performers are also your servers/bar backs. Your ticket includes a list of basic meals. You can upgrade to alcoholic drinks, appetizers, upgraded meals and desserts all come at an extra charge. The performance is great! The only thing holding back a 5 star is the food. Salad and dessert is excellent, the fish and chips... not so much ! Food could greatly improve which would help everyone! I'll definitely be back. However I may upgrade my meal. read more

My mother in law bought us tickets to Little Women for Christmas. I had never been to this venue and was pleasantly surprised, especially after realizing I'd driven past it for years and never known it was there. The show was fantastic - very professional and the local talent was impressive. The venue was clean and food was good. We ended up returning later in the summer to see Shrek with a larger group and everyone had a great time. I will definitely attend more shows here going forward. We continue to be disappointed in the Candlelight. As season ticket holders for the last 5 years we are frustrated with the lack of service. We have to call in to get our reservations you can't just go online and schedule them. We had difficulty hearing and understanding the play Mary Poppins. I don't know if it was because of the bad British accent they were trying to portray or a lack of speakers. We didn't have bad seats so it was very frustrating and we ended up leaving after the first half. The prime rib was good but the shepherd's pie was very disappointing. We were one of the first to be seated and one of the last to receive our dinners. We received our drinks in the beginning quickly but at intermission waited for coffee for a very long time. Everyone had their desserts but no coffee or refreshments. Women's bathroom toilets were disgusting. The outsides look like they haven't been cleaned in years. Was very disappointed. Love this playhouse/venue. It's simply the best and one of our favorites. Attend often and always excited when attending. Great play and "outstanding" , upgrades on menu. The Candlelight has been through a few kitchen managers/chefs within the past 6 months it's recognized by its menu/ food prep and menu. Upgrades of prime rib always a must! Have experienced three different types of prime rib preparation, taste and cuts in the last six months and I have to admit. Who ever the kitchen manager/chef is current as of this week it's the very best! Nailed it! Thank you! My only recommendation, suggestion improve the salad. The salad is in need of help. Went to see the play newsies. The play was great. The only problem we had is we opted not to get lunch so they put us in the balcony. There are only three row's in the balcony we were in the last one. In the balcony you can't even see over the people in front of you. You either stand or you spend the whole time bobbing back-and-forth. Plus you're so far back and up you can't even make out the people faces needless to say it is not someplace I want to do again that is the balcony. We've decided if we do it again we will buy the food even though we are not that thrilled with the food. But at least will be able to see the play. read more

I was treated to dinner and a show for my birthday. It was really a fun treat. The theater itself is very nice with no bad seat in the house. In traditional dinner theater fashion, the actors made their way through the tables for several scenes. And of course served meals as well. We saw a version of Cinderella that was hilarious. The Fairy Godmother and the Queen Mother stole the show. The food was good. Parts were excellent, like the stuffed chicken I ordered. The sides were average. (The salad was kind of pathetic.) However, desert was delicious. I had their gluten free cake. This particular show wad great for kids. After the show kids were invited to take pictures with Cinderella and her fairy godmother. Overall, I highly recommend this for a change in date night routine. Or bring the kids to a matinee. They offer theater classes for kids as well. read more

I found this place by accident while looking for a nice place to take my wife for our 9th Wedding Anniversary. Westword had a link to it and I checked out the web site. From the looks of the web site (very professional) and other links on the 'net, I decided to buy a pair of tickets to the show. The doors were open when we arrived at 5:30. Patrons aren't seated until 6 though so the early arrivers collected their tickets and stood around chatting. The playhouse advertises "Colorado Casual" however most folks were dressed up. There were a few of us that did dress more comfortably and we didn't feel out of place. The playhouse holds almost 400 people and it quite large. The seating is tiered so you're not looking at the back of someones head. There are very few tables for two so unless you're coming with a large party, you'll be sharing your table with a stranger or two. We had a very nice dinner and conversation with Jim and Judy from Greeley so no complaint there. One issue with the seating is during the show itself. Dining chairs are fine for dining but they were a bit uncomfortable for the show. It didn't detract from the show much but we were a little stiff after sitting in them for 3 1/2 hours. As the name says, this is a dinner playhouse. For the price of a ticket, you get a small selection of dinners and a soup or salad. For a little extra, you can get appetizers, upgrade dinner, and order dessert. I ordered the soup of the day (potato soup) and Beouf Wellington. The soup was very tasty with pieces of bacon. The main course also included green beans which were crisp and flavorful. The Beouf Wellington was a mixture of beef tips (which were a little tough), potatoes, onions, and mushrooms in a sauce. While not bad, it was only missing some carrots to be a hearty beef stew :) My wife had the Ratatouille which she seemed to like along with the soup. Dessert is ordered after your meal but served during intermission which really was a good time for it. I ordered the fruit tart with lemon curd mangos, and strawberries. When it arrived during intermission, it was more of a slice of thin pie. It was about a half inch or so deep including crust. There were small slices of strawberries laid out on the slice along with a twist of lemon and two raspberries covered with a little bit of topping. In general it wasn't bad also if a little tangy. My wife ordered the Marzipan Cheesecake. It was much much larger in comparison being the size of a slice of layer cake. The cheesecake itself was whipped and not the solid cheesecake you'd expect. She shared a bite with me. It was ok but I'm really a fan of the solid cheesecake with cherries so I may not be the best judge. One note about dinner. The food was moderately proportioned. You didn't get so much food that you felt like you'd eaten a water buffalo. So when they asked if you wanted dessert, most people around us seemed to order it. Personally I appreciate a more moderate portion. I tend to eat what's in front of me so giving me a "hungry man" portion will guarantee I won't be eating dessert. As the show started, I found that the volume level was just about perfect. After going to concerts and clubs, coming to the playhouse had me realize that loudness really doesn't equal good (not that I didn't know that before of course :) ). The orchestra was just the right size for the theater and provided accent music throughout the show that didn't overwhelm but actually enhanced the performance. The actors in the show are also the waitstaff. It was interesting to watch the first half of the show and then find one of the actors serving you dessert still in costume :) This isn't a review of the play but of the playhouse. Remember that the play is a part of the entire show. Without the extra gear, the show will not do well no matter how good the actors. The props used were perfect for the show (Phantom) which I'd expect but they were also well made and didn't seem to be something used from a different play. The acoustics were very good. We were back near the balcony and could hear the show without a problem. The lights were just right and accented the show well. So the sound and lights man did a fine job. I plan on going again with my wife. It's not something we'd do on a weekly basis but certainly to celebrate events or to take out of town friends and family to. read more

Last night we made our first trek up to the Candlelight Dinner Playhouse. In short, we had a very enjoyable experience. Here are the highlights: The drive? Not bad at all - 50 minutes from Golden without traffic; longer, of course, if you're dealing with rush hour or with bad weather. Take I-25 north, exit at Johnson's Corner, take the first right at the bottom of the exit ramp followed by the first left off of the frontage road and you're there. Unless you want a cinnamon roll at Johnson's Corner as an appetizer, in which case you turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp rather than right. The facility? Large and lovely. I read somewhere that it seats 400. It is tiered from the stage to the back of the theater, so every table provides good seating and clear views of the stage. The aisles are wide and there's plenty of room between tables - the design has thoughtfully avoided the sardine can feel of many dinner theaters. There is a balcony with theater seating for those that choose theater only without the dinner. The overall feel of the facility is fairly upscale. The stage? Large - wide, deep and high - able to accommodate almost anything you would want to do with staging, props and sets. The service? Terrific. The general organization and service flow is remarkable. They're surprisingly efficient in seating a few hundred people. Then, you have 3 wait staff - a food server, beverage server and bus person. The food servers and beverage servers are also performers (RIP Country Dinner Playhouse and Barnstormers). All were very cordial and attentive. The food? Plenty good enough to probably pretty good. I'm really not an ambiguous person - allow me to explain. Dinner and show ($59.50) comes with bread, soup or salad, and your choice of four seasonal entrees (last night these were honey glazed ham loaf, roasted chicken, Manhattan fish chowder, and roasted acorn squash as a vegetarian option). You have the option of upgrading to prime rib ($14), braised short ribs ($11), or shrimp and lobster pie ($12). Appetizers, desserts, and all beverages are also extra. Desserts are ordered with dinner but served at intermission. We wanted to try the basic options so didn't upgrade - we all had the roasted chicken (served with green bean casserole, wild rice and cranberry relish). It wasn't award-winning, but it is a perfectly fine option for those understandably wanting to keep the total cost of the evening down. More about the service? The servers understandably would like to up-sell the premium entrees, desserts and beverages. They make you aware and pleasantly encourage you to consider these options, but they're definitely not pushy and we received the same excellent service with the basics. One bill is brought to you at intermission that covers all of your food and beverage extras, you settle up during the last act, and you're ready to go at the conclusion of the show. The show? I saved this for last since this will vary over the course of the year. They run around 7 shows a year along with some concerts, and are currently in their seventh year of operation. We saw Miracle on 34th Street. The basic story is the same as the movie, but there are definitely differences in the musical stage version. The quality of the acting and production was variable, but generally good. We've definitely seen more professional productions in local theater, but it was still enjoyable and we enjoyed a very pleasant evening. There is a live orchestra which is also a plus. The bottom line? We will be back. Beautiful facility, remarkably well-orchestrated service, good enough food (probably better if you're willing to upgrade), and a fun production. Not inexpensive but prices are fair - for all that you get, the value is there even if you choose not to upgrade. Folks that enjoy dinner theater should try Candlelight at least once. It's similar in some ways but different in more ways from any other dinner theater I've attended, and for the most part, I like the differences. read more

Wow. First class all the way around. I decided to take my daughter here as she is extremely interested in singing and acting. We had a front row table and she was beyond excited. Here are my observations: Layout: awesome. Doesn't seem to be a bad view in the house. Waitstaff: incredible friendly and punctual. My daughter loved that the waitstaff is also part of the show. Adds more "wow" factor. Food: not the most gourmet, but decent with adequate portions. Drinks: decent wine list, but you're much better off buying a bottle for the prices. Itty bitty glasses! I was very impressed. Rating a dinner theater comes in two parts: The show and the food. The show was very well done, with very nice costuming, set, lighting and production. The actors were great, talented and well casted. The singing (it was a musical) was energetic, fun, and entertaining. I had seen the same show perfomed elsewhere, but they definitely added their own bits of flare, and it was one of the best performances of that show that I have seen. The food was ok. We went with the options that were included with the ticket price, although they also had upgradable options as well. The upgrades seemed a bit pricy, but the standard options all were moderately proportioned and pretty delicious. Dessert was dissapointing however. It was a bit pricey (its not included with the ticket), and mostly generic. We got a variety of things, and some were good, but others were just very average. The dinner service was very nice (service is done by the actors and crew), so they were very nice and very attentive. We tipped well. Three stars because the show is always good but the food sometimes borders on downright terrible. We have been many times and frankly, we are considering never going for dinner again, just for the show. When you figure how much you pay for just the main course of dinner, it would be worth your while and cheaper to have dinner at a restaurant and show up for curtain. The food is mass produced and poorly executed. Dry, poor presentation, boring = dinner at this dinner theater. The desserts are good but not included in the ticket price. So good job on the shows, but you need to step it up with the main course. read more

Easy to get to, easy to park, additional parking on side street. Nice personnel who greeted me, and showed me to my seat of which all seats have a GREAT VIEW of the stage. The food was fantastic. Cooked properly, the drinks and desserts were also excellent. The price for the drinks and desserts were par for the course. The cost of the ticket with the dinner was very acceptable. I paid 54.00 for dinner and the play Scrooge. Now for the stage props, NICELY DONE and quite versatile for the play in the changing acts. Basically no downtime between acts. The Orchestra well-rehearsed and so enjoyable to listen to and were quite the well factor. It was a well oiled between the orchestra and actors who were singing and the dancing. The actors were phenomenal! The noise factor was nonexistent and you could hear clearly the notes and the actors. I have been to many plays in the Chicago area and I have got to tell you the comfort level at this playhouse exceded some in Chicago. I was not on top of the person ahead of me or beside me. There is ample room to enjoy your meal and the play no matter what size you are. Overall 5+ star rating and I will return. read more

I loved The Sound of Music! My Mother & I have been going to Candlelight for several years and this has to be one of the top performances ever. The talent was amazing, every single singer was superb. I didn't think anyone could even hold a candle to Julie Andrews voice and talent in the movie, but from the moment this actress opened her mouth to sing, I was impressed. Even the food was great. This theater itself is very nice. I went during the holiday season for A Christmas Carol and had a really good time. There was a Christmas tree and lots of lights and wreaths for the holidays. (Yay!) The show itself was very fun. Great vocals and acting! The orchestra pit was okay ... I did see the conductor playing the trombone and directing the pit and stage at the same time though, and found that to be impressive! The food was okay ... I had the Vegetarian Shepherd's Pie and found it a little salty, and the sides were crusty. (Which means they probably microwaved the dish?!) Either way, the dish was okay, not great. The cocktail shrimp appetizer, on the other hand, was really tasty, but expensive! ($9 for six lousy pieces of shrimp.) The dessert was extremely rich and sweet. I had some kind of a pudding dessert, which came in a cup. I will say, though, that I had a lot of fun because of the person I went with, so thanks for the opportunity for me to spend time with my special someone, Candlelight! read more
