I had a very poor experience at The Cajun House. I had just flown in and wanted to grab something quick on the way home, and The Cajun House had been something we've considered trying for some time. We walked in to see a staff member who clearly didn't enjoy his job. He didn't greet us and made us approach him before he asked how many people would be dining. Looking into the dining room, there were several empty tables that had not been bused, and there was only one other party dining at the time. This was already a red flag, indicating that the staff didn't care about the cleanliness or appearance of the dining room. The menu is very extensive. From the outside, it isn't clear, but The Cajun House is a Chinese restaurant first and a seafood boil restaurant second. The first page of the menu is entirely dedicated to dim sum. I was surprised to see that they were serving dim sum late at night, and I questioned how fresh everything was. Flipping through the menu, about two out of ten pages were dedicated to seafood boil or Cajun dishes, which was a bit unexpected given the restaurant's name. Anyway, we decided to go for the seafood boil, and ordered a side of beef skewers to try. From former reviews and pictures, it seemed like these were the most popular items. The beef skewers came out first. One order was 13 dollars and came with five skewers. This was on the pricier side but not unfair. We split the dish. The beef had decent flavor, although nothing crazy. It wasn't fatty, but it had some seasoning on it to make up for the lack of quality. The beef was also relatively tender. It had a bit of a chew, but in a pleasant way, pretty much the texture I would look for in a noodle or fried rice dish. I was somewhat satisfied with this dish. For the seafood boil, we went for the combo. Every combo comes with two potatoes and two pieces of corn by default, each of which can be added on for two dollars each, a sauce, and a selection of two different seafood components. We went for the shrimp and "crab cluster" for an additional three dollars, adding on a dozen sausage slices and the garlic butter sauce. Right off the bat, it was easy to tell that the seafood wasn't very fresh. Both the crab and shrimp had a weird, off-putting flavor and aftertaste. It was slightly fishy and didn't sit well on my palette. We also weren't given anything to crack the crab shell with. We resorted to just using our teeth and trying our best to pull it apart with our hands, and using the skewer sticks from the beef to push out the meat. The garlic butter sauce wasn't great either. The meat wasn't picking up the sauce very well and retained very little flavor. The highlight for me was the sausage. It was surprisingly smoky and burst with flavor. It picked up some of the sauce, but the flavor I liked definitely came independent of the sauce. The potato and corn were both fine. They had decent texture, especially the corn. The potato was on the mushy side, but still served its purpose. For a lot of our meal, there were no employees in sight. It was impossible to wave anyone down. Our waiter was sitting down out of sight, and the only other worker we saw seemed to be working the back of the house. When we finished our food, it wasn't clear if we were supposed to wait for someone to bring us the check. We waited about five to seven minutes before someone came in to pick up an online order. When our waiter popped out to give the customer their order, we walked up to the front and paid out. We weren't given a check to make sure there weren't any mistakes, and just had to go with what he said. From start to finish, the service was really bad. The only time we got a refill on water was when our food got delivered. Other than that, we were never checked on. It just seemed like our waiter didn't care at all. The dining room was messy and unorganized, and the food was generally mediocre, with the seafood leaving a lot to be desired. There was plenty more on the menu to try, especially the Chinese food, but everything seemed dirty, and I didn't like how I was questioning the cleanliness of the food. This combined with the very unpleasant experience I had with the service will definitely discourage me from coming back.

My wife and I decided to try out the Cajun House since we both enjoy spicy food and had never been there before. The drive wasn't the best because of a nasty storm coming in, but once we arrived, the atmosphere inside made up for it. The place was nicely decorated and had a lot more seating than it looked like from the outside. We were greeted right away and shown to our table. As the rain slowed down, more people started coming in, and I noticed they also had quite a few Uber Eats calls because several drivers stop by for orders while we were there, so takeout seems to be pretty common there too. We started off with the soft shell crab and cream puffs. My wife wanted me to try several of the dishes she ordered, some of which I'd never had before. A lot of it wasn't really my style, but it still tasted pretty good just different from what I'm used to. The only hiccup was getting napkins; once the place got busy, I ended up having to walk up to the counter to grab some myself. Other than that small issue, we really enjoyed our visit and I plan on coming back to try some of the other dishes on the menu.

Ever since before the pandemic, I have been visiting this establishment relatively frequently since it's difficult to find a Chinese BBQ spot in the Twin Cities, and as much as it used to give me a stomachache almost every time, it was worth it because the food is very authentic and I would recommend it to those seeking Chinese BBQ, even though it also has cajun style seafood options available, which I have had before as well. My friend and I returned here earlier this year and it was my first time going there since the pandemic, and I am happy to say that I think they have maintained their food quality. I didn't even get a stomachache this time, which meant that their meat kebabs were not undercooked anymore, which was for sure a good thing. I don't have anything specific to recommend because when it comes to Chinese BBQ, it's really just a "whatever you feel like" type of situation based on your preference, but I can safely say that pretty much everything I have had was a hit in authentic ways. Not the best spot I have ever been to for this kind of cuisine, but great regardless given how scarce Chinese BBQ is here. Hopefully this can at least help some know that they can come here for authetic Chinese BBQ, at least!

Pretty tasty restaurant with a very large menu! If you looking for a place that has Chinese bbq, Sichuan dishes, dim sum, and American Chinese food then this is it. Some of the items taste better than others but overall everything is solid. Service is always very nice, and I like that you can order on a QR code available at the table.

Very quiet in here today. The name suggests Cajun but it's definitely an Asian restaurant. The menu is huge but not very informative. Luckily the waiter answered all my questions. I went with the frog leg dinner, added a little extra spice, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We also enjoyed the beef lo mein , also adding a little spice to it. Both items were very good. I would say that the menu has something for everyone.

This place is authentic Chinese style with Cajun flavor. Lobster combo is SO good, but I don't like that the hot food is put in a plastic bag within a pale. It's hard to get the food out. Everything else is great! It seems like they are short staffed, so service is a little slow. But I will definitely come back again!

Great marketing by those within the Cajun community has Asian restaurants calling themselves cajun. With that being said I walked from my hotel to this place to to pick up a couple of things to take back to my room. I visited The Cajun House and was impressed with the restaurant's ambiance and menu offerings. I ordered the Mango Pomelo Sago ( Mango pomelo sago is a type of contemporary Hong Kong dessert. Diced mango, pomelo, sago, coconut milk, and milk) It was okay just lack the flavor I expected. I also ordered the Spicy Fried Chicken Wings since they didn't have the Korean Chicken Wings. The wings weren't close to being spicy but they were good and crispy. Overall, The Cajun House was okay and I would visit again if in the area.

The Cajun fries so good tasty like rally's fries or checkers if you don't know they are one in the same

Cajun fries are a complete hit the mild was quite spicy as well I loved that not too intense just right! The crabs and shrimps were good too I didn't like the lemonades so much pulp, my son ordered the catfish he didn't like it maybe more seasoning on your catfish would help that and don't cut them the way you do to keep those vein lines in the fish it throws off the look of freshness!

Do not be fooled, oh friends-- this is not a Cajun restaurant. While yes, they serve beautiful looking Cajun seafood boils, that probably taste as good as they smell, the true gem is their Chinese food. Probably the best I've had in the twin cities, perhaps even in the Midwest. We came for the 烧烤-- barbecue skewers. I didn't grab a picture of the beef skewers we started with as we were too quick to eat them. Absolutely stunning. The beef was inundated with cumin and chili, and was quick to arrive, piping hot. The prince of this meal was the eggplant (of which we ordered two :0). The garlic sauce was intoxicating. I will warn that you may be sweating garlic for a week after, but it was well worth it. You won't be thinking of anything else. The princess was the bean curds (豆皮)。stuffed to the brim with enoki and greens, it was meaty, crispy, and fresh. We didn't need to order the chives because of how much veg was in the tofu skin. Again, fodder for my dreams. The King of the meal was the noodles. Steamed rice noodle with beef flank. OH. MY. GOD. The beef was falling apart tender-- sweet with star anise and cinnamon. The noodles were fresh and spongy, and soaked up the decadent sauce. The woman who helped us flipped fluidly between English and Mandarin, and was kind, joyful, and clearly proud of the incredible food this restaurant could offer. All in all, amazing. Not to be cheesy, but this place is incredible.

    A bib for all!

It's across from Fairview Clinic, kind if easy to miss. We had the seafood boil, and it was of variable quality. Food: Went with my in-laws, who asked if the crawfish were live (and were assured that they are), and I'm inclined to believe them. The crawfish was the best part of the boil: we had the green mussels, crab legs, baby octopus. [They were out if clams this day.] Everything except the crawfish was very... fishy, kind if rubbery. It tasted just barely on the okay side of old. Even the corn tasted super frozen-- and I have no problem with frozen corn, but it was dehydrated and sad when cooked? Like it was frozen corn that was then over-microwaved? The seasoning and sauces were good though, as were the potatoes (though the russet potatoes were a tad too big, so the flavor never soaked through-- they definitely should've cut these in half or in thirds). Service: Quite friendly, a reasonable speed. Attentive, plus had all that was necessarily for a successful crawfish boil: bibs, napkins, the crab-eating accoutrements. Ambience: Decor was seafood-kitsch, with some netting on the walls and life preservors, etc. Kind of falling into disrepair though... There was some clutter (stacks of cardboard boxes, tangles of wiring, a super large freezer) in corners, but it wasn't disruptive. Bathrooms: Two stalls in the ladies room, clean but also kind of falling into disrepair (very dim and several light bulbs needed to be replaced, painters tape holding up a vent, unpainted drywall patches). Parking: Street parking only, it seemed. It was bad, it wasn't great. Food was hit or miss, and everything else was FINE, but only just.

I love the concept and I've been to other restaurants who have the same concept. However, this was the worst rendition of the "choose your seafood, flavor and heat" that I've witnessed. The Good: The prices are reasonable, the portion sizes are nice and the shrimp are really good. The corn and potatoes were pretty good as well. The Not-So-Good: Lack of freshness - I ordered soft-shell crab as an appetizer and it was easily the worse I've had. Normally, soft-shell crab is one of my favorite things to eat. Unfortunately the crab tasted like it had gone bad, so I couldn't finish it. For my meal, I ordered the head-on shrimp and crawfish combo. The shrimp were big and tasted great and I loved that there were a lot of them in the bag. A few times, I thought I had just eaten my last one....then I'd find another. The crawfish were a different story. I know it wasn't crawfish season, so I expected to have frozen crawfish. What I didn't expect is to have bad tasting crawfish. They tasted as if they had gone bad and then been frozen. Since half of my bag was crawfish, I didn't want to waste my food or money. After forcing myself to eat 2, I couldn't eat anymore. They were THAT bad. I chose the juicy cajun flavor and the "burning" heat level. The flavor was good, but the burning was a bit of a let down. It definitely wasn't as hot as I had hoped. The service was a bit slow as well due to only having one waitress, so this probably isn't the best place to go on your lunch break.

You order at the bar and then they deliver your food to the table in cardboard basket dinner where is plastic and you bring your condiments to the table you choose. I wanted to try their wedge salad as well as their slider flight. The wedge was unique because rather than using iceberg, they use Romain, which actually was a nice change of pace for a wedge. It was good. The onions and tomatoes were diced, the dressing was thinner than most wedge dressings, but it was flavorful. The two pieces of bacon on top were whole and quite frankly might've been better if they would've been chunked the smaller pieces as well, but that's not a major issue. The slider flight comes to three sliders. One is a smash burger , one pulled pork, and one is chili chicken. The rolls are fresh and akin to a Hawaiian roll. The Smashburger was a good basic burger, the pulled pork was decent. And the chicken chili, was a shredded chicken that was spicy, but not too spicy. They were easy to eat and enjoyable. Also thought the wings were very yummy. I'd definitely be back, but would pick some different things next time.

Such an awesome neighborhood BBQ spot! The food is great, I had a pulled pork Sammie and some…read morebaked beans and both were great! The Sammie was juicy and their sauces were great to add onto it. The big winner was the baked beans, probably some of the best baked beans I've had in a while. I also had some of their house sweet tea which was delicious to go with the meal. They also have a live Jazz Orchestra that plays once in a while in the massive basement venue that I need to come back for. The servers were all wonderful, kind and attentive as well, the food does take a little while to come out so just sit back and relax but you will not be disappointed!

We had a fantastic Saturday lunch here!…read more First of all, the parking: parallel parking must be done on the surrounding streets. We lucked out to find a parking spot very close, and the restaurant wasn't even busy when we were there. I can only imagine parking is quite a challenge at busier times of day. We had a cozy booth. I had a view of the streetside windows and the dining room. Music was at a pleasant low volume in the background--we had no trouble talking and listening to each other. Our server, Lali, took good care of us. We were never left wanting and empty dishes were cleared promptly. Everything came out at an ideal pace, too. My husband had a beer from on tap. I was very happy that they had a couple kinds of cider, so I had one from Minneapolis Cider. We ordered poutine as our appetizer. It was fantastic, and a massive serving! My husband had the brisket philly for his entree; brisket is one of those meat cuts that is tricky to get right, as it easily gets too dry, but the cook absolutely perfected it. I had the smoked trout and greens bowl, which was no only delicious, but was also a feast for the eyes. I have never had trout prepared like this before, only salmon, and this dish was quite special. Just a wonderful place. I can see why it is so highly reviewed.

We came here for a Tuesday during happy hour, and were lucky enough to get a table on the patio…read more Our server, Megan, was super friendly and shared highlights from the menu options and HH drinks. We tried the poutine and a barbecue platter to share. Both were good and I loved the juicy BBQ chicken, but the poutine was notable because there was tons of beef as well as the gravy, cheese curds and all on top of really good fries. Our food came out super fast and hot, and my glass of House Cabernet for eight dollars was a generous poor and a nice wine. There's plenty of street parking in the blocks around this area, and there is a cute bookstore as well as a sustainable goods shop that you should definitely check out across the street. I would love to come back here again!
