What happened to this place? We had been coming here for years. Unfortunately this place is under new management and should officially be closed. The server was nice, but the food was absolutely inedible. I ordered the avocado toast and received brown avocado and a fried burnt egg. They have very clean and healthy food, great juices and coffee. They adjust the menu seasonally and they have amazing breakfast. If you want to eat clean and healthy this is the spot to go. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Love the fact that it's very airy with plenty of light. While the food was seasoned well and had good flavor, I felt that the fish didn't taste as fresh as I would have liked it to. The food was ok, not great. Full menu was not available. Waiter did not know what was available. We ordered 3 different things only to have him come back each time and apologize that they didnt have that item today. We had buffalo chicken meatballs which were simply chicken meatballs with hot sauce dumped all over them. Bean burger was tasty but a bit dry, the grilled potatoes came out ice cold. We were the only 2 in the restaurant at lunch time for the first 30 min so whats the excuse? Good, may be organic but NOT rushing back anytime soon. The restaurant has a natural feel, young new staff trying their best. I had the In house black bean burger. Served with avocado, greens, pico and fingerling potatoes which were so creamy, salted just right! The burger could have more of a crisp outside was served room temperature very flavorful. My husband had a vegetable medley bowl, burnt broccoli, brown rice and slaw. Rice was bland, slaw was crisp, cold, delicious. My son had the buffalo chicken meatballs, very salty, sauce was plentiful as well as the blue cheese dressing made with yogurt. Green smoothie and a beet juice were healthy and refreshing. Seemed like they left the bus boy alone to open and take orders. He did the best he could but it was clearly not his job. Went here twice in one weekend (visiting) and first time they screwed up our order from "eating in" to "to go" ... when dining in food usually comes out on wooden slabs, instead it came in to-go cartons. We told them it was to eat in, and she just came back with the lids off and set it down. Ok fine, it happens. Food was good so we decided to come back the next day. They messed up our friends order, tried to refund for half the price paid, couldn't tell us eta on the order, messed up another tables order, tables had food way before ours, they run out of coffee,etc. We went across the street for a breakfast sandwich instead. It's not the staffs fault, she tried to accommodate as much as possible but their system is flawed. The menu is more than I think their staff/kitchen can handle. It has potential but it was a bit all over the place. Again, food is good. Good flavor but I hope you get in there when they aren't swamped or flustered. They are a new establishment in the West end of LB and I'm a bit impressed with their attitude, fresh food and effort to keep our beach community clean by using only compostable, eco friendly everything. Food was fabulous. It took a while to come out but it was a Saturday morning during Memorial Day weekend. I rather my food come out cooked right with time than rushed out a mess. Steak and potato hash was delicious. Avocado toast with poached sperfect. My little one had the bowl of yogurt with fresh fruit and granola and was licking her spoon clean. Toddler approved means everything lol. I appreciate this restaurant's customer friendly attitude. If you have a concern or recommendation, they have been completely accommodating and attentive to input. They also provide gluten free toast and wraps and this makes me SO HAPPY. He proceeded to dump an iced coffee on the ground right behind our table where my husband sat. My husband called him out on it. He argued with my husband. After that we left. Avocado Toast rules! Excellent taste when complemented by tomato slices and the side of salad with carrot shavings were tasty. The black bean burger was very good -with perfect mixes of herbs and onions + tomatoes. The side of baby blue potatoes were delicious... and the ketchup sauce was excellent -I wouldn't be surprised if it was homemade. I also had their coffee with a special mix to extend the effects of the caffeine. Definitely coming back to try more dishes. An instant favorite. Iv struggled to find decent food in Long Beach. Generally I feel over charged and unsatisfied like when you eat at an airport restaurant.... So.... Got take out twice this week from Island Thyme - and both times I was in love with the food. First time I got the chicken buffalo balls and potatoes as a side. Loved it and instantly wanted more. Next night I wanted to try something else so I got the Mahi wrap and buffalo chicken balls. The Mahi wrap was awesome. The struggle to find good Mahi in Long Beach has been on going but I finally found it! I'm looking forward to exploring more of the menu and this will be a regular go to for me. The Cafe unfortunately falls short each time I've been there. The best part of this local restaurant is the band they have play on Saturday nights. I think it's the only reason they draw a crowd and a slam packed floor, only once a week. The food is sub par, and the service even worse. It took over 2 hours for me to receive a piece of fried chicken on a bun,, and the waitress stacked everyone's plates on top of each other while serving us our meals.....dirty bottoms of dishes inside my friends fresh salad (???!!!!!!) They ignore reservations and accommodating customers on a freezing cold winter night. After making a reservation we were turned away, and told they were full. One of the owners actually sat at a table with friends while leaving us standing in the doorway. It's very sad to see a local small business that should succeed, be a complete unorganized flop. I had to come on and give this a review because I've been here several times a while back and the food has always been good but the service was not great back then.So today was a wonderful surprise! Service: They seem to have changed the format so that there are now servers that serve you at your table rather than ordering at the counter and Having somebody randomly drop it off or going to the counter and picking it up yourself. The waitress service has made a spectacular difference in the experience here! Our waitress Delilah was absolutely delightful very attentive and so sweet. She was on top of our every need which was a welcome change and made sure that everything was perfect. Food: The food itself was fantastic! I've recently been going vegan and trying very hard to find options locally. However most places will just throw a bunch of vegetables into a wrap and Call it vegan. The veggie wrap is absolutely the opposite! Made with giant fava beans, some kind of sweet cooked onions, sweet potatoes and I'm not sure what kind of spices and Mandarin oranges in a gluten-free wrap, this was fabulous! And large enough that I ate half there and took the other half home. I also had a shot of the lemon cayenne and Ginger(?) which was a great start. We really had a great experience here save that one of the cooks went bananas and started screaming and scared the customers have to death. This went on for at least 10 minutes with him banging doors and going in and out it was actually quite scary. I felt sorry for the servers who were young and not sure exactly what to do. We told them quite clearly that the thing to do was call the police because everyone was actually scared and it caused several people to leave. The servers stayed very composed and took some off of our check but nobody called the police which would've been the correct thing to do. It was not anyone's fault and they managed to keep people relatively calm but given the current situation with crazy shootings and things there should be a protocol to call the police immediately when somebody becomes enraged like that. It was too bad to end the experience that way but overall it was still worth giving a very big shout out for the improvement in service to match the delicious food. read more
