Cute spot with a great menu and the nicest waitress/host/bartender - yes, she was all three. I loved being here with the fam and got a kick out of the decor. After we were done, I kept walking around and taking pictures. I didn't even make it upstairs, but next time!!! The portions are huge!!! And they have gluten free items, but not with huge portions. I would love to have a piece of cornbread with cream as big as the one my hubby got. At least so I could share. But they have lots of things that they can make gluten free which is cool. I'd come back here in a heartbeat. Between this spot and the bookstore, it's worth the trip. There wasn't much more to see there, we walked around which was cool, but next time we can come to Sumneer, hit up this spot and the bookstore and keep it moving. Granted, it was the day before Mother's Day. A 45 minute wait to be seated was not completely unexpected. Waiting over 45 minutes to receive our food after we ordered it .... Not Cool. We are locals and regularly come here once or twice a month for breakfast. I would rate them a solid 3.5/5 stars. My wife and I always share the "Dont be a chicken" platter, which is a massive plate of hash browns, eggs, biscuits and gravy, and a huge piece of country fried steak, plus a hunk of sweet cornbread. The cornbread is cakey and is delicious with coffee. The fried steak is tender and fried nicely. The hash browns are honestly hit or miss, I've had them cooked perfectly or so undercooked that we were crunching on raw potato. A pro tip is getting the biscuits and gravy on the side, so that the gravy doesn't turn everything on the plate into mush. The service is usually exceptional and the food comes out pretty fast. I will say, the food is not always consistent, but is a solid choice for breakfast and for a decent price. Plan ahead because this place gets absolutely packed on the weekends and peak hours. read more

Finally made it to The Butter Biscuit! Been a long time coming, as the reviews from friends and family have all been stellar! So we decided of all days... to have breakfast on Father's Day. Some of you might already be laughing a bit to yourselves, but yeah... rookie mistake. This joint was PACKED tighter than Nicki Minaj in skinny jeans - be busting out the seams! If that ain't your first sign of a fan base. This party of Six had to wait about an hour to get a table, but it was a nice morning and we just sat outside at the picnic tables and did the prayer dance for no rain. There's always an option to order some drinks from the bar, anywhere from Bloody Mary's to various Mimosas. Once we were seated, we got our "limited menu" for the holiday. Kind of a bummer because there was a dish from their regular menu that I really wanted to try. No biggie... maybe next time. Coffee rounds for the majority, and then the orders. The Cowboy Omelette sounded good, with pieces of chicken fried steak, corned beef, onions, then smothered in their sausage gravy served alongside some home fries. Hot diggity Damn!!!! Once the plate arrived I instantly thought of Matthew McConaughey's Alright, Alright, Alright... THIS is about to go down!! The portion size is ridiculous. An easy meal for two unless y'all be like Kate Moss, then maybe a meal for 4-5 of ya. I thought I was up for the challenge... but nah... I figured I wanted to walk out on my own two legs versus being carted out in a wheelbarrow. In fact, my wife was smart enough to split her Ham Omelette with my mom, which they were kind enough to serve it up on two dishes for them both. My granddaughter ordered off the kids menu of French Toast fingers, and it looked identical to the regular order of French toast that our friend ordered. In other words... SO MUCH FOOD! I'm not gonna lie... it's kinda pricy, but the food portion makes it right. But much more importantly-- the food was top notch Delicioso! All of it! I was really looking forward to their biscuits, but what we got was a Goonie sized Chunk of Cornbread, and I'll be damned if like Sloth, I didn't want to scream "Hey You Guys!!!" but Sho' Nuff... I did. The was some grub cornbread and that butter... made me want to call it Butta Sauce... 'cause it was oozing all up and down that bread. All in all, a great first experience. The staff was bustling but very welcoming. Plenty of fluids being topped off and they were on it. My main recommendation is to come during regular business days (outside of holidays) for quicker seating service and lower menu prices. It's always such a treat eating here! I make sure to grab brunch here whenever I'm in the area. The service is always so friendly and welcoming. It's a super laid back but fun atmosphere. I always get something that has chicken fried steak and cornbread! Their cornbread is to die for! Perfect savor sweet goodness - almost cake like! They do put a lot of butter on top, but you can get it on the side if you want. My husband always gets their bacon waffles and claims it's the best waffle ever. I love this place. Great ambiance, great staff, and great food. When we were in Washington in 2020, my son took us here before we left. We were so full afterward and went straight to sleep when the plane took off. Knowing we were going back to Washington, this was on my list of places to go. It did not disappoint. Staff: Both Mary and Leeann took care of the front while the cooks took care of the food. They were all amazing considering how busy it became after we got there. We didn't mind, though, as we were not in a rush. Drinks and food came out in a timely manner except for the cornbread. We were almost done when we realized it never came. Mary promptly took care of that. As did Leeann. Food: I had the Standby, which is your typical eggs, meat & starch plate, but Mary asked me if I wanted to add cheese and chopped sausage to the eggs? Told her why not. Then I asked for the brown gravy for the hashbrowns, and she said they didn't have it that morning and offered the hamburger gravy. It was so good. It's the same gravy they use on the chicken fried steak. I also tried my daughters Omlette. It was a veggie omlette, but the Hollandaise made that omlette. I also tried the corned beef hash. It was very "creamy" and not crispy liked I'm used to but the taste was great. Literally did not need to add any salt or ketchup to anything it was seasoned so well. Venue: It looked the same as I remembered, but there were some small differences we noted. It still had a fun casual vibe. I noted quite a few single people as well as quite a few groups. Open space, and you can pick your own seats. Overall: I am still loving this place 3 years later. Am so happy they reopened when we were there. They just reopened the day before Mothers Day. Highly recommend and strongly suggest sharing if you're not a big eater. Their menu looks small, but it packs a lot in. Next time, I plan to try something different. Used to love this place, however not so much anymore. It's been 6 months since the last time I have ate here due to no one in my party nor myself enjoying the food and figured I'd give it another try. The food was very bland and warm not even hot. In fact worse than what it was last couple times. I myself had the trainwreck. The chicken fried steak tasted like it was old and had a horrible nasty grease taste. The cornbread was very dry. People who visit here are so damn loud you have to shout just to enjoy a conversation. Friendly staff but very subpar service. We walked in 20 minutes after they closed, but Tammy and her staff with no hesitation look at us and said "are you guys ok with dining outside?" The atmosphere was gitchy - which my husband did like. However, there were ants on our table. The service was friendly enough, but the food was...not good. I ordered "grandmas country fried steak" with two eggs over easy. I ate maybe 4 bites and felt - weird so I stopped eating. My husband also only ate about 1/4 of his food. We left feeling sick. Was sick for the rest of the day. The cornbread...which oddly comes with most plates though this is supposed to be a biscuit cafe, was REALLY dense and a weird consistency. They smother it with a whipped butter (which I didn't mind). We won't be returning...we were charged $5.15 for one cup of refillable drip coffee...that's more than SBUX. The utensils were very cheap..like they were cutting into my hands when I was using the fork to cut into my hash browns and the ants makes it feel unclean. We hate to leave bad reviews and would love to remember the buttered biscuit like we did years ago. But this visit left a bad taste in our mouths. Starting with the wait time on a average Saturday morning we were expecting a wait which was understandable (only about 20min) but after ordering we waited about and hour with no one to check on us or ease our hungry thoughts. We received our cornbread with butter that tasted great but was also a bit cold. We ordered a chicken and waffles burrito and bacon waffles that was served cold and left us very underwhelmed especially considering we grew up eating here often and were excited to see how they have changed. We tried the Burria quesadilla from our friend at the table and were pleasantly surprised with the taste if I had to recommend something that would be my choice. We love to come here on the weekends the plates are filled and even hungry we can barely finish. We get a huge chunk of warm cornbread with butter before our meal. The Buttered Biscuit was a pleasant surprise. The waitresses were very friendly and efficient and smiled a lot (which is kinda rare.) They seem to enjoy their jobs and serving people. The food was very good. My dish (omelet) came with warm cornbread topped with honey butter and was the best I've tasted. They were quick to refill our coffee and checked on us at about the right frequency. We got there early but by the time we were ready to leave they were very busy. Awesome breakfast spot in the middle of a parking lot behind the main street in Sumner. When we walked in, unsolicited another man also walking in said "You gotta get the cornbread. The best ever made" or something along those lines. We loved this because that showed how good this place was. A regular just walking in felt compelled to guide us what to get. I didn't know and was super glad he told me because we got 2 orders and the cornbread and boy did it deliver! More on that later. Walking in, it looks like an old school wooden structured dive bar. We were seated immediately (context: Sunday morning, usually prime brunch time in the city but since we're in Sumner wait times are actually reasonable out here). The waitress we got was super friendly and attentive. So sweet. When we were waiting for our food she would come by to refill our water or coffee and apologize for the wait but we were like No it's no problem. Barely a wait! It really wasn't a wait. Food and service and coffee all came out in a reasonable time. To the menu, really extensive. Eggs benedict to waffles to crepes to burgers to hashed. They even do their own tiki and margarita drinks. The tiki drink look dope. It was too early for us but I'd love to come back to try their drinks. Coffee was endless. Smooth and light easy drinking coffee with no hint of overroasting or sourness, but my coffee-loving husband said it was weak. It wasn't on the menu but I ordered just a bunch of sides: eggs, sauteed veggies, and cornbread. Husband got the Chicken Little. Portions are huge! My egg was cooked perfe ctly to my request. The veggies were nice but a little underseasoned (usually most restaurants overseason...). Husband said his dish was AWESOME. A little bit of everything, flavorful and cooked just right. I think they even make their own corned beef for the hash. The cornbread was so moist and sweet and served with honey butter. Decadent like cake. We shared one and took the other home. Cornbread at other establishments is often crumly or dry. Not here. This was pure perfection. What all cornbread wishes they were. We definitely want to return and try more from the menu. This place is hit or miss on service and food. This last we went there was a 30-40 minute wait for 2 people. When seated no one came to our table but seemed to go to others around us. The brought others water and coffee and as we waited for our server to come and even acknowledge us. When things got moving he brought our cornbread out and it was not cooked all the way and had some much frosting it was falling off the plate. We looked at the couple next to us and theirs was nicely presented and our was a mess! My main dish was mostly potatoes and gravy and not much eggs mixed in which it was supposed to have. Waitress was young and seemed distracted and forgetful. Had to ask for silverware so I could stir my coffee. There was what appeared to be spilled milk all over my menu, so much that it had to wiped down and had soaked into the actual paper portion behind the plastic menu. I brought this to the waitress's attention but only received a handful of napkins to wipe it up myself. No apology, no new menu or anything. Not to mention the table was sticky and dirty. Food was better last time I was here, not sure what happened. The prices are absurd and I only ate there because my guest wanted to eat there. $24 for some hash? Holy huge portions! I really liked the gravy with the SOS, the biscuits were good too. My fiancée liked his grits as well although he thought it was more of a pool of cheese, didn't find the grits until eating leftovers at home lol. I had heard so much about this place so we tried it today for my sister's day. The cornbread that is supposed to be like a piece if cake, it was a BIG disappointment. We got tiny flat pieces. When we asked about it we were told the restaurant was not level so the oven is not level and the pans cook the cornbread uneven. He didn't even try to make it right. I had the French toast with a side of bacon. Never got the bacon and the French toast is a big piece of I don't know what. Would have been better to use regular French toast. Paid 5.15 for a cup of coffee. No refills. The server got upset when we asked for boxes and bags to take leftovers home . NOT impressed and will not have to go again.
