This was my first taste of a job in the summer of 1984. My grandparents owned the Busy Bee Lunch for many years and I always loved visiting. I had the Breakfasts Burrito, smothered in a savory sausage gravy and filled with ham, hash browns, and veggies. WOW. We went to one of our favorite restaurants in Buffalo for breakfast this morning. A little disappointing. The service lady a lot to be desired. When we arrived, we were seated fairly quickly and found a another couple kind of seated in a corner that had been waiting for probably 10 minutes and had not received a waitress. I'll bring them drinks or taking their order yet. We waited about 10 minutes and finally got up and got our own menus said something to one of the waitresses that we were waiting and had not been addressed yet. When she came over, we told her that the other couple had been waiting probably 10 or 15 minutes longer than us, and that they should have put them first, and they did so. It was frustrating when another patrons were seated after us and helped prior to us in the couple sitting in the corner. Once our order was taken, though the food came quickly and did not disappoint as in the past, the food was excellent tasting and great presentation. The ambience is old style restaurant with a service counter. If you so desire and you can find a seat. I only gave them for this time versus a five last year Because of the bad service. When we come again for Longmire days, we will give them another try and we'll probably come back one more time before we leave in the next few days. I will recommend them that if you're in the area and you want breakfast or lunch, give them a try, but they only serve breakfast during breakfast hours and lunch during lunch hours I had the ribeye and eggs with hashbrowns and toast. My wife had the omelette with cheese, bacon and tomato with hashbrowns and a muffin or biscuit. She had orange juice I had coffee and our bill came to less than $40. Pretty good deal compared to where we're from in California. Again if you're in the area, give them a try may have been that they were just really busy and they're not used to the amount of business they had. read more

Just passing through on a road trip - wary because of past review but this place exceeded expectations. The server is so nice and the food is good. The meal was satisfying. Arrived at 1:00 on a Wednesday and we were the only customers there. Our server was kind and attentive. The location is the absolute bests part! Right beside the river in the historic Occidental Hotel. The food was good we tried a little bit of everything on the lunch menu. We will definitely be back. I see a lot of reviews complaining of the time it takes to get the food but we were forewarned that the chicken pot pie would take some time and we had no problem waiting. The waiter was kind and tried to get our order but struggled with simple questions like do you have Coke or Pepsi products. He smiled and nodded yes. Well the food was good, homemade biscuit and bacon done right-- but the waitress is what really stood out in this small town diner. She ran the whole show with grace and ease. This was a fun stop in a small western town. We enjoyed some local flavors and we were offered a glimpse into a hardworking local who made this diner sing and soar with her attention to detail. She was busing, wiping, taking orders and running the till-- all alone with a full house. No doubt she was aided by the kitchen team who helped to make the plates fly around this place without delay. Yummy, is my best description. We ate here twice during our recent stay at the Occidental Hotel. I had the Stinger on day one, and biscuits and gravy the next. My wife had the Stinger on day one also, and a bowl of oatmeal on day two. Every morsel was incredible. Good hearty servings. The service was friendly & professional. We ate at opening (7 am), and noticed some people having to wait later on in the morning. A group of really fun senior gentlemen were are dining buddies both day. They were a hoot. We almost didn't come here because the reviews were so poor; I'm glad we did as there isn't anything on the way to Yellowstone for miles and this was a decent place to have breakfast. I ordered the blueberry pancakes (a $1.00 upcharge on the buttermilk pancakes) and my friend ordered an omelet. The pancakes were decent (think Perkins) and my friend said her omelette, biscuits, and hashbrown were quite good. We came ten minutes before breakfast ended, and the place was almost empty) so we didn't experience the issues with service other folks did; waiter was attentive and the food came out promptly. The Busy Bee is a small café attached to the Occidental. It is a cute location, very small and limited seating. I went for breakfast (since the other café in town was closed) and it was....ok. I ended up with pancakes, which were fine. my kids had silver dollar pancakes. what gets me is the price of things. oof. 3.50 for a tiny cup of fruit with 3 grapes and a couple of slices of cantaloupe? $6 for 3 tiny pancakes and a slice of bacon? (and they are serious about their bacon, I saw a waitress track the room for was missing their single slice of bacon). I ended up spending $30+ for 1 adult and two kids, and was kind of disappointed with it. The food is fine, but they are definitely cashing in on the location more than the food. I'm pretty sure our waitress was high or coming down. She couldn't look us in the eye, was very erratic and weird. The food was okay. Longmire would be pissed if he got the longmire burrito. The chicken tenders are about the size of my finger. The taco nachos are just low quality nacho cheese sauce with burger in it. They didn't have shredded cheese. Not sure how that happens, but shredded cheese goes on a lot of things. The atmosphere is historic, but the busy bee ruins it. Pleasantly surprised by this cafe. It's attached to the historic Occidental Hotel and located conveniently near I-90. The food was solid - I had a salad with chicken and the cauliflower curry soup (which tasted more like a roasted cauliflower soup... not really any curry flavor) and my husband had a BLT. The highlight though was the pie - highly recommend that. The only bad part of this cafe was the waitress - she was pretty uninterested in serving us, but very pleasant to some of the local regulars who were there. We never miss coming to this historical restaurant when we visit Buffalo, and it has been consistently excellent. The blueberry pancakes are light, fluffy, loaded with berries and perfectly cooked. Went here today and what a treat! The place is quaint and the food delicious! Our server, Shana, was awesome! Very attentive and extremely friendly! She joked with us and made us feel like we had known her for ages! The food was beyond great! I had the chicken fried steak and it was the best ever! Everyone at the table cleaned their plates! I can't even rate their food because we didn't eat any. We were there for 30 minutes and hadn't even received any drinks. The table we sat at had dishes when we got there (no complaint there, we took the table from someone as they were leaving) when we left there however, there were still dirty dishes on the table. Menus were not brought to us, we had to get up and grab them ourselves. The waitress was kind but obviously was not trained on how to work in a restaurant. She clearly didn't think anything was wrong with the service because she did not apologize to us when we told her we were leaving. I would not recommend going to The Busy Bee Cafe. read more
