Walk in here at 6:00 pm on a Tuesday .this place was 100% empty.Our server tried hard but was clueless. He did not know the menu. To the point he had to ask the kitchen if he could put bacon on a cheeseburger. He lyrically messed up everything. ( small mistakes and some bigger ones)This place price wise is pretty expensive like $$$. So service wise I would give this place a one star. The server did fix all of his mistakes.Plus he was very apologetic. Flavor of everything was the next thing. Stale rolls on my sandwich. I had high hopes. Yes, it's in the Holiday Inn, but the menu is ambitious and the Facebook page seems to indicate that the chef is serious. Boy, were those hopes dashed. The room is dreary and way too brightly lighted. The service was slow almost to the point of being nonexistent. Salads were fine, and my dining companion's "American Kobe" steak was acceptable, but my elk medallions were bizarre. Four pieces of meat, one that was fine and what you would expect an elk medallion cooked medium-rare to look like -- gamey, chewy -- next to three very thin, very dark pieces of what look to be previously frozen and overcooked beef liver. I ordered pasta Bolognese as a side dish because I had never seen it as a side dish before, and what I got was penne topped with what appeared to be canned diced tomatoes "Italian-style" and shredded mozzarella cheese. I ordered a glass of red wine that utterly stumped the waitress, even though (a) it's on the menu and (b) a bottle of the same wine is displayed up front. The drinks didn't come until we reminded the waitress once our entrees showed up. (The wine was fine, for the record -- a Spanish temperanillo). The other side dish, sweet-potato "barrels" -- was a pretty tasty take on tater tots. The waitress asked how the food was, and I explained, as nicely as I could, the "one of these things is not like the other" elk medallions, making it pretty clear they were Not Good. Her response? "So, would you like those boxed up to take home?" Again, I had high hopes, but any signs that this is anything but a pedestrian hotel restaurant (and really maybe not even that good) should be ignored. While tucked in towards the back of the hotel which makes it a little hard to see if entering from the front of the hotel, you come upon a brightly light room adorned with white linen tablecloths and birds of paradise folded napkins placed in the drinking glasses. I was treated with "are you with the party of 20?" I said I was "with the party of 1". I was told I could choose from any table to sit at, which was plenty (the restaurant was completely empty with exception of a private dining room set up for the party of 20. I should have taken heed to the empty restaurant and just walked out. But I had driven all day and was tired and didn't want to search anymore for a dining option. I was quickly greeted by a young waitress who asked if she could get me something to drink and I replied with water and stated I may get something else once I decided on what I wanted for dinner. I asked about happy hour and she replied that happy hour was next door in the lounge if I wanted to go over there and I could order off the menu from there if I wanted. I decided to stay where I was. The menu was somewhat ordinary yet priced fairly aggressively. A "Sirloin cut" for $23 were not talking NY or Tenderloin here just sirloin. Burgers are $10, Salmon $18 etc.. I decided on the whisky river sirloin as if it was priced on the higher side of the menu it should be a crowd pleaser. I inquired about the recommended Cabernet on what it was and the waitress had no clue as to what it was. She then went and looked at a bar menu I suppose and came and told me the name but no region was provided. The staff needs to be educated in the selections if they are going to be recommended on the menu. Choice of two sides accompanied the entire selection and I chose a salad (which was not an option on sides) and a baked potato. The wine came and I was not impressed with it, it seemed a little old and flat, but opened up a little with some vigorous swirling. The salad was fairly good with a masculine mix and the blue cheese dressing was a bit on the thick mayonnaise side. In a mid level dining establishment nothing should be presented in plastic cups. But the dressing was in a disposable plastic 1.5oz cup. When the entree came the plate almost overwhelmed the entree and side. The potato was small, the steak was smothered in the whiskey demi-glace. Once I touched the steak I knew it wasn't going to be Medium Rare as ordered. I cut into the center to discover a medium well cut of beef. When the waitress saw that I was not eating she came over and inquired if everything was ok. I told her the steak was over cooked and she asked if I would like the kitchen to make another? I agreed and she walked away without removing the plate, she shortly came back and said she should show this to the kitchen, I agreed. The recooked steak was a better cut and cooked to a medium rare. The issue I have was that it was prepared at a (10 & 2 cook time (an old term used in some kitchens to represent the the cooking was not even and cooked more on one side than the other)) the flavor of the beef was drowned out by the over abundance of sauce. I scrapped off as much sauce as I could and the beef didn't have too terribly much flavor. Slightly disappointing. The second potato was as miniature as the first. I will say the cut of beef was nice, no fat, no gristle. I inquired with the waitress as to what comprised the sauce and she could not tell me. She asked if I would like for her to ask the chef and I agreed. She came back and stated whiskey and Demi-glacé. (Unfortunately there was no resemblance of whiskey flavor present and the sauce base was not demi-glace. It was more of a demi-glace au boeuf and it seemed to be from a prepared beef base and not actually made in house.) I was presented with the offer to enjoy a complimentary dessert since my steak was not prepared correctly. I declined the offer of a "free" item but inquired about dessert offerings. Creme brûlée one of my weaknesses. The creme brûlée was prepared nicely. The use of vanilla bean in the creamy custard is good to see, many places use extracts and not real beans. Overall the dining experience was ok. Not the best and in my opinion it does not rank a "mid-class dining" experience. The staff needs to be educated on the menu and offerings of the restaurant. There was no sign of a manager present either. During my 50 minute visit, no one came to dine in the empty restaurant. I can't say I would return with exception to enjoy another creme brûlée. read more

My husband and I are traveling through, so tonight is but a stop over for us. Tired and not wanting to drive around or read a bunch of reviews on order to figure out where to eat, we simply decided to eat at the restaurant here in the Holiday Inn. Our waitress, April, was kind, attentive and most helpful. I ordered Pork New York, NY husband the Country Fried Steak. Both meals are presented well on the plates, arrived hot, and we're DELICIOUS!!!!! Wonderful flavors. Green beans were perfect! Will definitely come here next time we're back in Sheridan! read more

While they may do one helluva decent Sunday brunch, that's about all they can do. Dinner was an abysmal failure beginning with the inept, rude waitress, progressing thru salad with runny dressing to over-cooked steak and old baked potatoes and ending with the over priced, stale Sysco Food Services 'homemade' cheesecake. Dont know who the new owner is but his kid brother/cousin/bestie needs to keep his rude self out of the restaurant so he isnt scowling at the customers as they come in. Needs freshened up to look like NOW, not 1980. Dont look in the kitchen or under the tables..... bar drinks take FOREVER to get. Skip supper here. Breakfast maybe..... read more

After reading the other review I hesitated but was convinced to try it by a friend of mine. There was a good variety of food and had a hard time choosing. I had the ribeye steak and it was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. The service was excellent and everything came out right on time. Went to the bar aftwards (Oasis Lounge) and it is very upscale and friendly. read more

Figured since we were already in the hotel Holiday Inn that we would use the restaurant it was in the lobby of the Holiday Inn. That was one of the worst decisions we could have made. wait staff was moderately friendly took a very long time for them to place our order and for us to get our food and I am not talking about 30 minutes or so. It took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We ordered the prime rib au jus sandwich it was dry and not very flavorful drinks were only refilled ones and when checking out I had to wait 30 minutes for the waitress to come out and take my money I will not be going back again and i will not recpmmend anybody else does either read more
