The Fireweed and Northern lights flavors made it to my must-try list when we started planning our Alaska trip. I had read about the fireweed flavor A LOT as it was hyped up by many travel bloggers. In reality, it tasted a glorified vanilla ice cream with slightly floral notes. It was also TOO pink for my liking - credits to artificially added colors. If you must have it, ask for a sample first. It could just be me but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. On the other hand, one of our friends got the chocolate brownie, which I found to be incredible.

We came here for ice cream as we heard so much about their homemade ice cream from locals. Covered outdoor dining only and they do get busy. We shared a picnic table with locals, and had a great time chatting about anything and everything. Their ice cream is rich and creamy. Perfect for Alaska "hot" weather. (Not that hot but hot for them). Too bad I wasn't hungry for their burger as I heard they are good too. Apparently they have a bigger store somewhere nearby with more ice cream flavors. Some local flavors are good, so I was told by fellow customers.

We showed up just before 11, because there was nothing else open for breakfast. The dude who was working (Jeff maybe?) gave us a rundown of the specials. We said we would be back when he opened. Sure enough fifteen minutes later, we ordered. I got an elk burger with Swiss and onions. I've never had an elk burger before. I'll be honest, I don't know if I could tell you the difference if it and regular burger were side by side. What I can say is that they don't play around, it was a good sized burger, meaty, but not overly meaty where it gets dry as a bone when cooked. It was real tasty, and the tots were crispy. I'd eat here again if in town. Thanks for being here and spending time to chat with us!

Beef, salmon, reindeer, chicken, pork or classic vegetarian, all are an options here, and all are good. Tater tots or fries keep 'em company in your basket. Relax at a picnic table out front, and watch the world go by. Staff is friendly and helpful!

Absolutely love this place!!!! Was in the area to just walk around on a sunny day and decided to grab a bite somewhere I didn't have to leave my dog in the car when I went to eat, since the parking was right in front and there were outside tables it was perfect. Not only did my burger (something I eat maybe 2 times a year) taste delicious, hot and fresh but they noticed my dog and came out just to hand him a treat! The men working were smiling and friendly and it was just a super nice experience.

Overpriced, sell some Costco items like muffins and water but good and unique ice cream. Fireweed ice cream is from the Alaskan fireweed flower that blooms in the summer, with chunks of waffle cone mixed in.

First stop for food walking into Talkeetna from the train. Food truck with picnic tables. Great food. If you want to sit instead walk another 6-8 minutes into town.

No description of the canned salmon loaf, nor the mythical herbs and spices.

The burgers here are very good, as are the onion rings. However, the salmon burger looked like it was salmon loaf from a can, not remotely fresh. Which seems strange to me considering their proximity to nearly unlimited fresh salmon. Cheap of them. In regards to the allergies, if I'm getting a burger, but have a shellfish allergy, why would I state I have a shellfish allergy? Seems unnecessary. We asked if there was green leafy garnish on the burger due to an allergy, the cashier stated there wasn't, though the canned salmon loaf was inundated (verb: overwhelmed) with green leafy things, the exact same as you would get "fresh" out of a can from WalMart. My father has been stating his allergies for over 40 years, I can attest he did so in this case. The cashier should recognize that while there may not be green leafy "garnish" on the burger, it is filled with it. In regards to the menu, maybe you should visit your restaurant and take a look! In the only menu available, (attached) the description of the salmon burger is as follows, "Our very own recipe using sockeye salmon topped with your choice of cheese". While I appreciate the half-witted condescension, you should try again later!

Half eaten Moose's Tooth burger. Their party was thicc and cooked perfectly. Burger wasn't soggy nor dry and the onion rings were good too.

Thick quality beef patties cooked to perfection. They know how to cook a burger. Clean and friendly staff.

Brother and I paid for our food and did not tip. Group behind us ordered and tipped. The big guy running the register told the cook to start their order first because we did not tip. What a joke this place is. The group who tipped got their food delivered to them and we had to go grab ours from the window. Food was good. Guy running the place is an ***

My daughter and my nephew enjoyed the ice cream here! I tried some of my daughters strawberry ice cream and it was really delicious! Nice treat after some shopping in the area! Especially when it's hot out!

Oh dear. What's happened to West Rib? I used to LOVE coming here, when i was a mere stripling of a…read moretourist way back in 2010, and i have returned many times. I organized an overnight camping trip JUST so i could have dinner at West Rib again, man, what a disappointment. Was the place always this run down, and shabby? Did the sun get in my eyes and blind me? Well anyway, so after me demanding we go to West Rib, yet seeing most other eateries in town absolutely BULGING with tourists, i was a little taken aback by the solo diner in the outside space at West Rib. Gamely i ploughed on with my choice, thinking "maybe i should have gone somewhere else" The server was a nice enough young girl, and she bowed each time she visited the table, and i have absolutely no issues with her - very polite and nice. When she brought the menu, i was shocked. I am sure, i am positive it used to be fatter, had many more choices, every other time I've been here. I distinctly remember a certain sauce or dip i used to order that had a funky name, and was sort of like a schmear but runnier. Now there's only a single page to order from. I wanted to leave. I honestly was on the verge of getting up and going. Anyway, I ordered the Stubbs Burger - hadn't realized he was the Mayor Cat dude, nor that the burger was named after him. Husband ordered the special which was a Brisket Sandwich, and some Jalapeno Poppers to start. The food was fairly fast to come out, and the Poppers were hot, and came with a cool, creamy sauce, maybe ranch? They were ok, taste like every other Jalapeno Popper I've had, I'm not that keen on them to be honest. Then the entrees came out very quickly after that, so i just got started on my burger. Well - see I've been off potatoes in all their glorious forms since February, but these beer-battered fries looked so appetizing, that i grabbed a handful and distributed them evenly across my burger. And i must say - the burger was perfect. I like a well-done, no-pink burger. This was absolutely exactly how i would have asked for it to be cooked if given the choice, i had to take off the onion and the tomato off (they give me stomachache) but of course the 10 fries i put in there filled the gap nicely. And the cheese was oozing very beautifully and dripping out of the bottom. It was gorgeous. He said his Brisket Sandwich was really good too, so despite the place's shabby, and rundown appearance, and slimmer menu - what they cook, they do it very well. I did hear disquieting rumours regarding West Rib, from people around town when i said i was going there for dinner, so whatever they've done, has gotten them a bad reputation in town, which is quite sad really. It holds fond memories for me, due to it being one of the first places my husband took me when we weren't married yet, and i hadn't moved here.

I can't recommend this place anymore. They say they will be open when you talk to them (in person-…read morethey also run tbe grocery store), then they aren't. They told me they are having a hard time finding staff this year. Every time I've stayed in Talkeetna they've been closed, even when they told me they planned to be open. They aren't updating their website or voice-mail either. The place is dilapidated and run down as well. Such a shame.

We were pleasantly surprised however when we visited the Kahiltna Bistro. We spent the day fishing for salmon and caught a bunch, when one of our guides suggested that we take some to town and get then cooked up for dinner that day--sounded great (and was!) He took us to KB, we dropped off the fillets and made a reservation. When we arrived we ordered some apps from a menu that looked pretty interesting. Ended up with the crab cakes, guac and chips. The crab cakes were decent, but the guac was a miss--was pretty much just avocado and tomato. Then we got to the entree--our fish. It was beautifully cooked in an Asian style, sauced, and served on a bed of (jasmine?) rice with Julianned veg. Wonderful! And so fresh of course!! 1 fillet for each of us, $18-PLEANTY of food! Dessert was to follow and we opted for the White Chocolate Creme Brulee, Berry Cobbler w/ice cream and Chocolate Lava Cake w/ice cream. The Lava Cake took the gold medal and we were basically fighting over who would lick the plate! The cobbler was very good and unusual with the mixture of cherries, rhubarb and other berries. The creme brûlée while good was a miss mostly due to the fact that they did not "brûlée" the top and opted to add a small sugar tuile instead which is just not the same and that wonderful crack you get breaking thru the normal crust. Our server was over-the-top perfect in every way and rounded out the best experience we had in town! We highly recommend this place and hope you all get to experience it just like we did
