We were in Talkeetna Ak and went to town. There was 4 of us and we decided on pizza. It was a nice place which had a stage for entertainment. There wasn't anyone playing at the time. Both couples ordered pizza. When traveling it's nice to stop and try local food and not chains. There wasn't any chains here but the pizza was good. There is no wait staff so you order at the counter and they bring it out to you. Overall some place to eat at if you are in this location. read more

My family and I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza....but something was off about it...there was a distinct bad taste, which we thought was coming from the cheese/chicken (boiled nasty chicken). We tried to see if we could exchange for a Margherita but were told no!, and that we had to pay again ....we've had plenty of BBQ chicken pizzas in California...always been deeelish, we knew something wasn't right. Well....I tried to give them another chance but they got demoted to one star after my last visit....Sorry not sorry. First of all they charge a 4% fee for using a CC which is the highest I've seen In Talkeetna. Second I waited In line to order, early on a Monday so they were not busy. I tired to order a 1/2 &1/2 pizza (the guy in front of me did) but she told me no....they don't do 1/2 & 1/2 pies so I mentioned the guy in front of me did and she just shrugged her shoulders and said "yeah". Man, what a let down it is when the customer service is so poor you don't even get to order. (Pasting my prior review below, I should listen to my own reviews.....but I thought maybe they would have improved in the years) give this pizza joint 3 stars IN THE WINTER and 2 stars in the summer....The summer season gets so over run by travelers that the waitstaff gets complacent, the pizzas get under cooked and all in all it's not that great of an experience. But the outdoor seating in the summer is very nice. The winters though, the service is on point the beers are good and the pizza is tasty so if you find yourself hunting for the aurora borealis in Talkeetna this is not a bad place to warm up and get your grub on! read more

Excellent service but the gyro sandwich and breads were very disappointing. Sandwich bread and garlic bread weren't very good. Gyro meat which I was told was made in house was terrible. Talkeetna is a quirky, artsy-craftsy, touristy town between Anchorage and Denali National Park with lots of little shops and eateries. My husband and I shared a Talkeetna Italian flatbread sandwich -- ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone, tomato, onion, banana peppers, lettuce and Mountain High dressing (no onion or peppers on my half) on a fresh-baked flatbread and served hot. Yum! It was a beautiful day so we ate at a picnic table on the covered patio. We also shared a fountain soda served in a reusable plastic cup, but he didn't save me a final sip. This is the best place to go in Talkeetna--hands down, no questions asked! I love stopping here every time I pass through, though that's always been in the summertime. This time was my first winter visit, and it was amazing because it almost feels like two completely different places. In the summer, I've only ever eaten outside, where you order your pizza and sit at the picnic tables. They have games outside and even a spot to grab a beer. In the winter, there are only a few tables inside, but that's okay--it's still an amazing atmosphere and the best place around for pizza. This time, I even experimented and got a sandwich. This pizza place allows you to order slices or pies. They had many options and serve hot and tasty pizza in a great environment. You enter the restaurant to place your order before heading outside to the large patio to sit and wait for you food and to order it once it arrives! What was also nice was that several locals were seated around the large tables outside, speaking to each other as well as tourists just visiting the area. We visited this pizza place while exploring Talkeetna, Alaska, and while the food was absolutely delicious, the overall customer service experience left much to be desired. From the moment we walked in, the service felt... awkward. We were greeted by a very young staff member at the counter who promptly said, "Someone else will have to take your order, I can't, I'm only 16." That might be due to local labor laws, and while we understand that (we're from California and unfamiliar with Alaska's specific rules), it felt unprofessional and a bit disorganized. We thought perhaps she was referring to drink orders but- no- it included food as well. When the older staff member arrived to take our order, things moved along, though we were directed outside to a different area to order from a larger beer selection. That's when things really got odd. My husband leaned slightly behind the bar to read the the beers in refrigerator (which weren't easily visible from the bar), and when the server finally approached, she greeted him with a sharp and aggressive, "You can't be back here!" He immediately stepped away and complied without issue, but the tone felt unnecessarily hostile for such a small, innocent misunderstanding. After enjoying as much of our amazing pizza as we could eat, I brought our leftovers and dirty dishes to the bar to ask for a to-go box. I must have interrupted something very important on the computer, because the bartender appeared visibly annoyed at my request. She handed me a box without a word, and only after I asked did she point to where I should leave our dirty dishes. Later, my husband attempted to order a second beer and was again met with a less than welcoming, borderline confrontational attitude. (Perhaps it was closing time? I'm trying to find a reason for such costumer treatment, knowing no one is perfect...) One bright spot--aside from the food--was the inclusive signage, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, it was tucked away in a narrow alleyway by the restrooms instead of being displayed more prominently where it could really shine. Bottom line: Incredible pizza, but the service--was off-putting and far from the welcoming vibe the signage seems to promote. I was ready to hunker down for a quiet evening with a hot pie and this worked out perfectly. I got the pizza with reindeer sausage and it was just great. The side salad with vinaigrette was very fresh and tasty as well. The service was friendly and helpful. Best bread I've eaten in a while. The veggie sandwich i ordered was amazing. I love their bread and hummus - even a half flatbread sandwich is enough for one meal. My family of 3 ordered after me and they all received their food before me. The waitress confirmed with us we had 2 orders for our table when she brought their food. I assumed she was checking on my pizza when heading back in, but not sure. After an additional 15min or so we checked on my pizza and they had no idea what happened. They remade the order quickly and brought it to me within 15min. They gave us a free pb cookie as a "sorry" (and several other guests I noticed) I ordered a gyro pizza. It was bland. The gyro meat had almost no flavor and my beloved tzatziki sauce was oh so lacking. I was looking forward to this pizza as a gyro is my favorite sandwich. Added romaine on top seemed OK, but in the end it got wilted and weird on the hot pizza. I tried the cookie this morning (pb) and it was probably one of the worst cookies I've had. It was floury and again flavorless. I shared with my family and same reviews from them. The live band was great. Has all the ingredients on it except the mosquitos. We also ordered the garlic sticks with a nice marinara sauce. The large was enough to feed four hungry adults. Service is pretty much self serve. Good place to stop by for a quick lunch / dinner between Denali & Anchorage. It's not exactly on the way. We had to drive quite a distance from the highway into the town. It does have decent pizza, outdoor seating and fast service. There's parking adjacent to the restaurant. When you are on the road for the most part of the day, a hot pizza right off the oven makes for a hearty meal. The Greek white veggie pizza and the Margherita pizza fit the bill. We ordered two pizzas, but that wasn't quite enough for our fam. Ordering another pizza sounded a bit too much. So we got the Big Dipper, instead. It was just right, ooey, gooey and cheesy. We have a tendency to order too much food wherever we go - irrespective of whether we are hungry or not. Our usual favorite is a pepperoni pizza but when we saw the description of The Mountain High Pizza Pie, which apparently has over 30 toppings, we had to order it and a large one at that. When we asked what those were, the server replied "everything that they had in the kitchen" - so all kinds of meat you can imagine including a reindeer's. We also got the garlic bread, a few beers and a vegetarian pizza for one of our friends. The Mountain High pizza was obviously LOADED and the three of us could barely finish it - thanks to the garlic bread and beer. The best part was it also had a ton of jalapeños - perfect compliment to the amount of cheese and meat we were consuming. So, I am not a "write a review" person, but after yesterday I'll be that person. As Alaska locals we have visited Talkeetna frequently. Decided to walk to grab a nice pizza for dinner and a drink. As soon as we walked in it seemed know one knew who was taking the order in between two staff. I thought, well maybe it was a long day. They gave my husband the wrong beer, and said "Our staff will drink it later", and then gave me the wrong drink as well. I actually didn't get upset, all was good, and I tipped them 18 percent on our bill which was $23. Well wish I didn't, since we sat down and waited an hour, without a single person stating my name for the order. To add, the waitress was cleaning the tables right next to us, like, RIGHT next to us. Wiping crumbs on our kids legs. We ignored it, but I found it incredibly rude, as if it was a please leave already moment. I get closing, and having hard days, but all around it was simply the attitude of the two waitresses that absolutely stunk. If you hate your job, or cannot handle the stress please find another. The locals will be less upset, but man, if that's how you treat guests of Alaska, tsk tsk. When I finally asked my husband to inquire about our order I overheard one waitress tell him, "I can't keep up with everyone's order" to which he replied, "No one even called our name. And her reply, "You could be less rude". Ma'am, we sat, and sat quietly, enthralled with Wendel the almost mayor, our two kids and enjoyed the atmosphere, it wasn't until we noticed several people that ordered after us left. Even then, we walked away, not saying a thing. With cold pizza that stuck to the cardboard because it sat so long and crust that was simply hard as a rock. Happy Mother's Day I guess, but it was a HUGE disappointment. Good thing I didn't go for the fiddlehead special, probably would have ended worse than it did. I saw the owner walk away with Wendell and for a second I almost stopped to talk about it with him, but decided to let him enjoy the weather. Please do better with your wait staff and intake.
