While on our Alaska trip we stayed at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. I Had the Japanese Curry with Chicken. The dish was very flavorful and fresh. Good portion. It was accompanied by rice, sweet coconut yellow curry, lentils, jalapeños, onion, apples, dried apricots, chickpeas baja and cilantro. I would definitely order this dish again. Sat at the bar and servers were very attentive. Ambiance was lively and very cordial. read more

This restaurant and bar is located inside the Talkeetna Lodge. There are large picture windows with spectacular views. This restaurant is open seasonally depending on when the lodge is open. During our visit, they were only open for dinner. As our server was busy with several other tables, the manager jumped in and brought us our drink orders. They have several local beers on tap. The wine selection is ok, nothing great. All of the food that we ordered was fantastic. The reindeer chili was delicious. We did eat here a second time, while playing Thursday trivia. I ordered the Buddha Bowl and it was delicious and very filling. Service was great. Many of the people working are seasonal workers so it's fun to talk to them and ask how they are finding Alaska! The ambiance is nice with a lot of natural light coming in throughout the day. Beautiful views! read more

All the food we had here was delicious. The servers all did a good job. Prices were pretty steep, but that's a hotel restaurant for ya. It's the more casual of the restaurants here, so we weren't even gonna try the other one! It was convenient, but not great value. Figure you pay that much, you should at least have some leftovers, but that wasn't the case. Do NOT order the Cucumber Jalapeno Chicken Salad! A lot of money for tons of greens!!! read more

Feeling generous by giving 2 stars. The salad was good. The crabcake was nothing but filler, the halibut fillet was super dry. It had some indescribable sauce that helped.The Bolognese was average. Another Princess property disappointment. Ordered pretzels and beer cheese dip. Cold stale pretzels. Waitress admitted they came out of a "warmer." Barely warm beer cheese dip. Ordered chips, salsa and queso. Stale chips. Salsa and queso was good, but the portion could not have been smaller, certainly not enough for the chips. Wonderful restaurant in the Talkeetna Lodge. Come as you are and enjoy the view of Denali. We enjoyed a salad with a nice piece of halibut on top, and the wagyu, bison burger. I substituted a salad for the fries. Both salads were garden greens with goat cheese, cranraisins and pistachios. The burger had sautéed onions and cheese on top. All were delicious. A patio is an option for seating. We watched single engine planes come into the airport nearby. read more

FOR FORAKER - it's a smaller restaurant, staff was fantastic. Could only find old menus online before we came. It looked good. Got here and found it all changed. Staff is fantastic though! My surf and turf was expensive. The turf was Bison tenderloin and awesome. The Prawns were the same as the bag I got from Costco the week before we came. Dessert menu is super different. Everything I was interested in was gone. The current menu is completely generic and not something I would expect with this nice a menu. Basically followed a standard chain Restaurant in the lower 48. Menu says Alaskan root beer for the root beer float, but turns out it's Barqs. For the cost, I wouldn't repeat. read more

I had to write a review to do justice to Base Camp Bistro . It is attached to the Talkeetna Lodge ( which is beautiful and grand). They offer a breathtaking view along with outdoor seating . They have a lengthy dinner menu with exquisite dishes and also a bistro menu with classic dishes with some Alaskan flare . I highly recommend giving Base Camp Bistro a try because 3 stars definitely is not an accurate description of this restaurant! read more

Located at the Talkeetna Alaska Lodge. First and foremost, the view from the deck of Denali and the surrounding range is utterly spectacular. Ate lunch here and had the fish (Alaskan Rockfish) and chips. Outstanding. My co-worker had the fish tacos and loved them. Great service, reasonably priced. Would definitely go back. Terrible service! My wife and I have stayed at this Lodge 4x and eaten there 3X. This was the worst of them. The help is seasonal and comes from all over the world. We are Americans and I believe so was our server JORDI. She was slow and rude. It was busy, so after ordering, we asked to see the dessert menu to save time. 20 minutes went by and JORDI came back to ask if everything was ok. I told her we only had our waters and asked where was the dessert menu I asked for. JORDI asked if I wanted to see a dessert menu. I told her YES, and that was why I asked for it 20 minutes ago. I told her I realized it was busy there and she snapped back: "You've only been waiting 20 minutes." I was not expecting that response and in that tone. She finally did bring a dessert menu and returned a few minutes later to tell me there was only one dessert that was available. Our meal finally came out 35 minutes after ordering. The meatloaf was not hot and had very little flavor and the Brussel sprouts were soggy. The Bistro is pricey, but that is to be expected at a lodge restaurant, especially in Alaska. The next morning, we talked to a family of 6 that was seated before us and ordered before us too. (They sat at the table next to ours.) They told us it took 1 hr and 5 minutes for their food to come out and it was cold and nothing special. Their order had no special requests either. Three of their meals were Kid's Meals. It took so long for their food to come out, that the kids became restless and began crawling under the table and climbing on the chairs just to entertain themselves. JORDI was their server as well. Very disappointed. For those that comment on the great view, yes, it can be nice if it is a clear day, but the view is also FREE if you step outside and avoid having to deal with the Bistro or JORDI. If time allows, take the free shuttle into town where there are many more options to choose from. read more

This is located inside the lodge. Be sure to eat outside on the deck or get a window seat..the views are fantastic. Hubby got the french dip which was good..huge portion of french fries. I got the chicken wings..there were about 8-9 of them..average size. I got the Oaxacan dry rub which is not spicy at all, kinda bland actually. Decent prices on beer. Friendly staff. They were out of a few things so don't get your heart set on any one thing. read more

Great meal while traveling in Alaska. The menu is full of really good options. I went with the meatloaf and it was amazing. I believe it is made with caribou meat and comes with home made mashed potatoes, carrots and Brussel sprouts. I would come back here just to eat it again. Highly recommend this place. Samantha was our server and she did an amazing job. She recommended several great options and was very knowledgeable of the menu and the beer options. They provided us a table by the window with an amazing view of Denali. Our server, Jordi, was excellent. She was very personable and constantly checked back with us for our needs. Brussel sprouts where under the meatloaf for some reasons and where limp and moist. The mashed potatoes also tasteless. The seafood chowder was really a potato chowder. My partner had the French dip was used clearly frozen roast beef. The fries used the same oil as everything else fried at the restaurant, which gave them an odd flavor. Avoid. read more

Do not eat here if you have dietary requirements. Our waiter was terrific but the chef didn't prepare the food appropriately, even when we sent it back. If we had been told they couldn't steam the vegetables (as the banshee told us), we would have ordered a salad. Talking to the manager AJ did not provide any satisfaction. We were staying at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge and this restaurant is located in the main entrance. It's a very nice and cozy place with a beautiful view of nature. It also includes a bar. There is Foraker dining room just next to this place. Both the places share the same kitchen. Food is good with huge portions! This place is bit pricey as it is located in a tourist spot but this is the only option you have if you are staying at this lodge but you can be assured that you will have a great time at this place :) ;) read more

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. We were on the land portion of our Royal carribbean cruise. We stayed at the lodge and went for dinner at approximately 6 pm, there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. My soup took 20 minutes to arrive and when I asked the waiter he had forgotten. We were not offered bread or rolls until our meal was done. The size or the servings were small for the prices that you paid. When we called the manager Ed and made a complaint he told us to bad and if we don't like it don't come back. I was taken back and could not believe that we were treated like that read more

My wife and I spent three days in Talkeetna, vacationing from California. A local suggested we stop at Base Camp; said the food was good and the view stunning. We stopped for dinner and were delighted with both the food and the view (we had a cloudless Denali view - lucky us!). Enjoyed it so much we came back for breakfast the next day. The buffet breakfast was solid (not as excellent as the dinner) and the service was great. Overall, I definitely recommend coming here for at least one meal if you are in Talkeetna (it is only a couple mile drive from downtown). read more

Nothing great, and it's pricy. Go for the view, not for the good food. All the cocktails are made from flavored syrups, they don't even stock Bombay or Hendricks. The enteree soups are 8oz portions! A party member got reindeer chili, and it came with sausage, beef, pork, and reindeer in that order! They asked when naught a single piece of reindeer was to be found in the meal. Seriously, you would think oh that's the s'mores next door or something else will distract you but the vent pipes are literally 20 feet from the building. You can see them. It completely ruins the experience, ruins your appetite, and anything else that you think you are gaining from this beautiful place. read more

Base Camp Bistro has been here for 15 years and has a beautiful view of the Alaskan Mountain Range. On a clear day you can see the Denali Mountain. Miserable service and microwaved food made this a poor dining experience. Although only half the tables were occupied and there were swarms of servers all around us, it took over 10 minutes to just get water. Must have had the cloak of invisibility on. After ordering the food arrived quickly. The lentil beef soup was tasty but lukewarm. The hamburger was obviously reheated in a microwave. The French dip was ok, but also obviously microwaved. After reminding the server twice the drinks arrived 10 minutes after the entrees. Only the view was outstanding. We've eaten here before when the food and service were excellent. We heard there were new owners this year which might be why the venue has degraded so much. There are excellent options in Talkeetna - well worth the short drive! read more

One patron ordered the exact same meal and received it before our appetizers were given to us. Base camp bistro was severely understaffed . They forgot our silverware. The servers were so inattentive that I think that forgot to even put our order in. I'm pretty sure that a majority of their food was frozen *cough *cough chicken wings. They had so many technical difficulties that there was no way it could be a coincidence. Unless I was paid to come back there is no way I would eat here again. read more
