    Brisket Sandwich with curly fries

Great brewery in downtown Talkeetna with full bar. Food was wonderful. Service was prompt and friendly and prices were reasonable. They have a nice patio area too!

Stopped in for some beers after shopping on Main Street. Cute brewery with seating inside and out. Did not eat here so I can't speak to the food. Beers were good.

I've been wanting to come here for quite a while when I'm in Talkeetna, but honestly, Mountain High Pizza Pie wins every time. This time, I was able to squeeze both in, but I was a little disappointed. Denali Brewing has a reputation for greatness, and compared to the main Denali Brewery, this Denali Pub felt like night and day. That's not to say it was bad--just that my expectations for anything Denali-related are really high. They had a few brews from Denali Brewery, but not too many. The best part of the atmosphere for me was the bar--I liked just sitting there and relaxing. The staff was great. The place itself reminds me of a cute little mom-and-pop shop. There are a few menu items that seem decent and about average for a small-town spot. I think most people, especially families stopping in, would find something they like. The food I saw looked good. I had some of the Denali brewery beers and they were great. I was also impressed by their whiskey selection. They had a variety of special small-batch whiskeys, including some from local spots like Three Bears and Brown Jug. I got to experiment with those, which I really enjoyed. All in all, I'd say this is a solid place. It checks a lot of boxes and makes for a great stop if you're passing through.

Fish and chips and salmon burger

Absolutely loved discovering this place! We ordered the salmon burger, salad, and fish and chips! Everything here was so fresh and food came out quickly! We came on a Friday during noon and there was no wait. Ample seating and service is quick. The fish and chips were so fresh and they provided so many pieces of fish! I got the fish and chips with the sweet potato fries and that was delicious! Only issue is some of the fries were slightly burned but it was still really good! The salmon burger was so flavorful. It came with a bag of chips. Burger was on the smaller side but still the flavor made this worth it. It was nice having a salad as well to balance out the fried foods. Would def come back here if we are in the area!

Outside seating. If you zoom in the picture, you can see the fire pit.

I absolutely loved this spot. Very relaxed vibe with great seating indoors and out. I sat outside and enjoyed a cool drizzle of rain while sitting under the large canopy. It was reminiscent of sitting on your best friends back porch and grilling. They had a really nice fire pit in the middle, which made for a fun gathering spot. The staff was five star all the way. Kristen provided excellent service and offered great suggestions. We started our meal with a salmon dip appetizer served with pita chips. The depth of flavor and the amount of the salmon dip did not disappoint. The dip was absolutely delicious. I don't think we left any on the plate. It had a wonderful mix of salt and sweet and I literally could've made a meal out of it. These folks do not skimp. The pita chips.... Oh those pita chips!!!! I don't know what in the world they did to make them so delicious. But I'm use to really soft almost tortilla like consistency, pita chips or a consistency like a hard cracker. This was like a puffed crisp pizza dough. Maybe I've been eating pita chips wrong all of my life . But I certainly found That after eating these chips, my expectations have been raised. We both had the fish and chips (my chips were the sweet potato wedges ..... and they were excellent) with a side of remoulade per Kristen's suggestion. It was amazing. I love to eat fish and chips. This place got the batter 100% spot on. The batter was thick, crispy and stayed right on the fish instead of falling off into my plate. The sweet potato wedges were unlike any other that I've had before. They actually had a crispy exterior and a soft smooth texture inside. I have tried to make sweet potato fries myself multiple times and I've eaten them in various restaurants. But never have I been able to accomplish that. These things were perfect. There's so many other things that I wanted to try on this menu. I checked out our neighboring customers meals, and they looked just as outstanding. I heard multiple people commenting over how delicious their meal was. Can't wait to come back and try more options. I did also enjoy a cocktail. I do not typically drink. If I can recall, I believe it was called Bird of Paradise. They did not skip on the rum in this drink. It was really a great complement to the meal and packed a punch of its own..

There was a great variety of beverages, but for the most part I stuck to beer. I tried 5 different beers and a cider. Each was true to style and at the same time unique. The food was very fresh. House salad and the recommended salmon sandwich was cooked perfectly... I didn't get a photo until the end - but look at that salmon!! Our server was very accommodating, efficient and funny.

Good food, great drinks. Spicy Bloody Mary was just that - spicy. Also had the brisket which was perfectly cooked.

Great beer found where I least expected it! I mean, Talkeetna is not a large city so finding a craft brew pub with local production smack middle in town was a pleasant surprise. Food is really good too! Had a burger that was beautifully cooked and crispy fries. Maybe a little slow on the service, but I'll chalk that up to the "Alaskan time" (kind of like island time, nothing is rushed). Pretty standard brew pub venue, nothing special when it comes to the setting. Nice vibe though, chill people and not too noisy.

Late post Aug... When we first arrived in Talkeetna, there was slight rain which kept on while walking towards Denali brew pub mehh that's when the rain got stronger. Thankfully, we were promptly seated in the covered patio. Our server a young gentleman was fast and happy to give us the specials. Since we were still in Alaska of course, I opted for the fish and chips, my partner got pulled pork sando with soup of the day which was chicken curry lentil soup, sister-in-law brisket sando w soup lucily, she got the last of chicken noodle add everything in the kitchen sink and her husband ordered the burger with fries . Overall, the food was absolutely delicious, everything came out quick and hot which I appreciate. I would definitely recommend them if you are in the area! Outdoor seating, dog friendly!

This place had a nice atmosphere with a fireplace outside. The fish sandwich was delicious, a bit pricey, but it is Alaskax so I was expecting that. The beer was crisp, fresh and cold. Our server was fast and prompt, even though it was very busy! Cheers!

Thursday night and it wasn't particularly crowded. I checked in at the hostess table and was suggested a bar option since I was flying solo. I don't mind but it's definitely a quieter and different experience. I'm the only person at the bar for a bit. I asked if they had flights and was told they did and it would be six. More than I wanted, I give it a shot. I later learn they charge as tasters (half the price of a pint) so not a great deal unless you're really looking to try that many. Agave gold was my favorite. The spruce tip was surprisingly bitter, making it hard to drink--overpowering the flavors of the other beers. I wasn't particularly hungry so I looked for a light option. I opted for the salmon spread. The pita was warm and the bartender told me extra pita could be added for $1 if I wanted (no need). The salmon spread was good and I was glad to see some greens accompany it. Service was attentive. Beers were fine. Vibe inside during an August day was quiet until a bit later in the evening.

Oh dear. What's happened to West Rib? I used to LOVE coming here, when i was a mere stripling of a…read moretourist way back in 2010, and i have returned many times. I organized an overnight camping trip JUST so i could have dinner at West Rib again, man, what a disappointment. Was the place always this run down, and shabby? Did the sun get in my eyes and blind me? Well anyway, so after me demanding we go to West Rib, yet seeing most other eateries in town absolutely BULGING with tourists, i was a little taken aback by the solo diner in the outside space at West Rib. Gamely i ploughed on with my choice, thinking "maybe i should have gone somewhere else" The server was a nice enough young girl, and she bowed each time she visited the table, and i have absolutely no issues with her - very polite and nice. When she brought the menu, i was shocked. I am sure, i am positive it used to be fatter, had many more choices, every other time I've been here. I distinctly remember a certain sauce or dip i used to order that had a funky name, and was sort of like a schmear but runnier. Now there's only a single page to order from. I wanted to leave. I honestly was on the verge of getting up and going. Anyway, I ordered the Stubbs Burger - hadn't realized he was the Mayor Cat dude, nor that the burger was named after him. Husband ordered the special which was a Brisket Sandwich, and some Jalapeno Poppers to start. The food was fairly fast to come out, and the Poppers were hot, and came with a cool, creamy sauce, maybe ranch? They were ok, taste like every other Jalapeno Popper I've had, I'm not that keen on them to be honest. Then the entrees came out very quickly after that, so i just got started on my burger. Well - see I've been off potatoes in all their glorious forms since February, but these beer-battered fries looked so appetizing, that i grabbed a handful and distributed them evenly across my burger. And i must say - the burger was perfect. I like a well-done, no-pink burger. This was absolutely exactly how i would have asked for it to be cooked if given the choice, i had to take off the onion and the tomato off (they give me stomachache) but of course the 10 fries i put in there filled the gap nicely. And the cheese was oozing very beautifully and dripping out of the bottom. It was gorgeous. He said his Brisket Sandwich was really good too, so despite the place's shabby, and rundown appearance, and slimmer menu - what they cook, they do it very well. I did hear disquieting rumours regarding West Rib, from people around town when i said i was going there for dinner, so whatever they've done, has gotten them a bad reputation in town, which is quite sad really. It holds fond memories for me, due to it being one of the first places my husband took me when we weren't married yet, and i hadn't moved here.

I can't recommend this place anymore. They say they will be open when you talk to them (in person-…read morethey also run tbe grocery store), then they aren't. They told me they are having a hard time finding staff this year. Every time I've stayed in Talkeetna they've been closed, even when they told me they planned to be open. They aren't updating their website or voice-mail either. The place is dilapidated and run down as well. Such a shame.

Man...Am I glad we stumbled across this place! This incredible experience started by pulling up to…read moretheir restaurant 5 minutes before they opened and noticing this place looked more like an abandoned work shop than a restaurant. But when the clock striked noon and the door swung open, we were kindly greeted by a strapped older man with a half blind dog carrying a dead mouse which I can only assume now came directly from the kitchen. Upon entering, we noticed the smoke shop on the left, and the foul smell of 40 years of cigarettes being smoked that came from the cigarette vending machine in the entryway that still seemed operable. This of course prompted the question "is there smoking allowed in this restaurant" and a quick response of "not during restaurant hours" , more on this later. Once seated, our server dressed in tight blue jeans and a sturgis shirt approached the table looking like he hadn't slept for weeks with a look on his face like "why in the world would you guys choose to eat here?" asked to take our order. After quickly passing on the $55 fish and chips, yes $55 fish and chips, our family decided on a hamburger, chicken sandwich, and chicken fingers for the kid. Hamburger was fine, the chicken sandwich was equivalent to a Tyson chicken patty, and the chicken fingers were lacking chicken in them. Prior to wrapping up our meal at this fine establishment, we watched the old man mentioned earlier fire up a cigarette at the bar, as he gazed out at the lake, proud of what the H&H has become over the years. The innovation used around this place was quite inspiring, especially the 1970's kids metal high chair with one leg being used to hold down the ice cream bucket dog water bowl to avoid it from being tipped over as he meandered through the dining room. Honestly if you keep your expectations incredibly low, and take in the beauty and sights this place has to offer, it won't be a wasted trip, but rather an experience you'll never forget. Just know there will be times where you need to look the other way, as there isn't a chance in hell this restaurant would pass a food and health inspection. Upgraded to 2 stars for our most memorable lunch we've ever had.

Walking in to this place made me feel like home. I don't know if it was the smoking accessories or…read morethe dog on the bar. I ordered a burger because I couldn't afford the fish and chips. We got an appetizer of wings, 3 of the 4 wings were hot but one of them was still cold inside but still very good. Finally got my burger and man was it good, juicy, flavorful. After we ate our server told us to make sure we call ahead next time when we have a big group of 7 people coming so they can be more prepared. This place just made me feel like home. The only mistake I made was coming here on the first day of our visit because now I miss my dog.
