This was a cozy spot for lunch on a cold, rainy Saturday in Talkeetna. The staff was very welcoming and helped us understand their menu and offerings. The theme is comfort food and I opted for the pimento grilled cheese with a side salad. The grilled cheese was an indulgent choice but I'd been hiking and kayaking the last few days and just needed something hearty and warm. It was a good choice and a nice lunch before leaving Talkeetna and continuing our drive down to Seward.

The ambiance and vibe here is pleasant - nice outdoor seating. The food was reaaaalllllyyyy mid though. My dish was $24 and didn't have a lick of seasoning on it. "Smoked wild mushrooms" was literally sliced up portabello which is...fine. But y'all couldn't have gotten better mushrooms? Maybe added a nice umami soy glaze?! SOMETHING?! Service was very slow which isn't entirely their fault, but it didn't help the situation.

Great restaurant in the heart of Talkeetna with delicious food and excellent service. We arrived half an hour before closing but they were able to serve us. We had the pot pies which were delicious, hearty, and filling. The biscuit was flaky and crispy. Definitely check this restaurant out if you are in town!

    Try them all!

Sunny patio late lunch was the best yet. Do try the crab hush puppies. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. My halibut sandwich was a very nice piece of fish and I chose the side salad over fries. My husband loved the Homestead Pie. Great find!

I thought the place had promise. The menu looked great and the space was well designed to be inviting. A little expensive but it's Alaska and in a small tourist town. I saw someone take a bight of the burger. It appeared to be an overly cooked (grey) puck and totally unappetizing. I opted for the scallops and the gf wanted Mac and cheese. They were out of both soups and the salmon skewers. For the cost, the meal was wildly disappointing. The macaroni tasted of American or other processed cheese for the sauce. Again not always a bad thing but for a small bowl to be just shy of $20 I expected a bit more than some poorly cut green onions splashed across the top. The scallops were the real failure for me. On my way out, my hand dove into my pocket and I realized what I'd call the dish: pocket change scallops. One size that matched the change in your pocket. Dime, penny, nickel, quarter. It's almost not their fault that the food was overcooked. Not sure how you temp a penny sized scallop while attempting to get a good color on it. Cooked down frozen corn didn't really help. Like some others have postured, the food quality and portion to price ratio was obscenely off. At least the restrooms were clean?

Fast service, healthy food. Not packed inside, but good and fresh food. Don't get the grain bowl. FRIES ARE INCREDIBLE

Great food great service. Under new management. New menu- no huge menu but it's quality just right all home made items. Has everything you need. By far best food in this area thus far. The grits was amazing buttery. I ordered also on the side and was even better the flavors came through amazing. Tied it with their salmon. Great choice. The pastry is also hand made all amazing.

    Seafood chowder, down the hatch!

Visiting Talkeetna, you'll have plenty of options for food. Do yourself a favor and go to Homestead Kitchen. Inside and out, the place looks fresh and clean, with a decent amount of indoor seating though it was quite crowded due to inclement weather. The staff greeted us promptly and politely. We ordered the Fisherman flatbread (smoked salmon with pickled onions), the Hunter flatbread (reindeer sausage with baked apples), and seafood chowder. And mimosas because we're sophisticated. Yeah. The food was out in no time at all and looked divine! The kitchen staff really does well with their presentation. The food was stellar, although the smoked salmon in the chowder gave it a bit more bite than I was expecting. In all, I highly recommend Homestead Kitchen. Give it a shot!

We got a table but had to go up to the bar to order which is fine I honestly prefer to do that so you can get your drinks at your own pace. The bartender wasn't nice but she wasn't a Cu#% either so there's that. The whole time from the second we walked in this guy at the bar stared us down the WHOLE time so we stared back and he would occasionally look away but then do it again. Every single person that walked in he tried to intimidate why I don't know he was old fat and a drunk but he seemed like a regular and if he is we counted he ran off 7 different couples because the couples were older over 60 and they didn't want to deal with it. The food fish and chips wasn't good at all the coleslaw was terrible and it was the smallest portion I have ever had the fish wasn't much better. So the inside invite one star that's good and service and the guy at the bar his picture will be attached so when the owner reads this hell he might be the owner but if not and you know him he's costing you business. The outside bar was five stars the lady black hair was nice as can be every time we got a drink she would say cheers very friendly .

I organized an overnight camping trip JUST so i could have dinner at West Rib again, man, what a disappointment. Was the place always this run down, and shabby? Did the sun get in my eyes and blind me? Well anyway, so after me demanding we go to West Rib, yet seeing most other eateries in town absolutely BULGING with tourists, i was a little taken aback by the solo diner in the outside space at West Rib. Gamely i ploughed on with my choice, thinking "maybe i should have gone somewhere else" The server was a nice enough young girl, and she bowed each time she visited the table, and i have absolutely no issues with her - very polite and nice. When she brought the menu, i was shocked. I am sure, i am positive it used to be fatter, had many more choices, every other time I've been here. I distinctly remember a certain sauce or dip i used to order that had a funky name, and was sort of like a schmear but runnier. Now there's only a single page to order from. I wanted to leave. I honestly was on the verge of getting up and going. Anyway, I ordered the Stubbs Burger - hadn't realized he was the Mayor Cat dude, nor that the burger was named after him. Husband ordered the special which was a Brisket Sandwich, and some Jalapeno Poppers to start. The food was fairly fast to come out, and the Poppers were hot, and came with a cool, creamy sauce, maybe ranch? They were ok, taste like every other Jalapeno Popper I've had, I'm not that keen on them to be honest. Then the entrees came out very quickly after that, so i just got started on my burger. Well - see I've been off potatoes in all their glorious forms since February, but these beer-battered fries looked so appetizing, that i grabbed a handful and distributed them evenly across my burger. And i must say - the burger was perfect. I like a well-done, no-pink burger. This was absolutely exactly how i would have asked for it to be cooked if given the choice, i had to take off the onion and the tomato off (they give me stomachache) but of course the 10 fries i put in there filled the gap nicely. And the cheese was oozing very beautifully and dripping out of the bottom. It was gorgeous. He said his Brisket Sandwich was really good too, so despite the place's shabby, and rundown appearance, and slimmer menu - what they cook, they do it very well. I did hear disquieting rumours regarding West Rib, from people around town when i said i was going there for dinner, so whatever they've done, has gotten them a bad reputation in town, which is quite sad really. It holds fond memories for me, due to it being one of the first places my husband took me when we weren't married yet, and i hadn't moved here.

I can't recommend this place anymore. They say they will be open when you talk to them (in person-…read morethey also run tbe grocery store), then they aren't. They told me they are having a hard time finding staff this year. Every time I've stayed in Talkeetna they've been closed, even when they told me they planned to be open.
