Dangerous place to be, when I made the mistake of stopping in my self and my guest were flagged by an idiot who left the range,passed threw the ears and eyes on area and emerged with a handgun pointing at the front counter. Where my guest and I stood. Upon contacting the owner Jim he said I was a liar and he would be "looking into my assets" . This business is a danger to me and my guest and I will never go there again. It's also a rundown dump, with rude staff and an inability to comply with federal law. They can't sell firearms due to missing handguns. The ventilation system is very poor here, I blow out black boogers every time I leave the range here. Folks if you're not aware, led poisoning is a thing. When in for my first visit while I was looking for a gunsmith to repair a stripped screw on my rifle. I went in asked to speak to the gunsmith and was told that he does not speak to anyone in store, and you have to email him. I was not aware of this, but everyone was courteous. They took a look at what I brought in, and I left it for repair. The gunsmith seems a little backed up as it's about a week since I dropped it off, but a good gunsmith will always be busy. I spoke with quite a few people before going here and was told the gunsmith did good work and was reasonably priced. I did not find anyone to be rude or anything as mentioned in some of the reviews. Looking forward to possibly making this my future go to shop when all is said and done. Will update this review as things progress. read more

The bullet hole no longer sells firearms, providing only firearm accessories range rentals, and range. Time to shoot your firearms have a wide access wide selection of firearm accessories from holsters cases, ammunition sites, scopes belts, and more primary business is the shooting range. It's the largest indoor shooting range in Kansas providing two bays upstairs, one for pistol and one for rifle and two open areas downstairs along with a classroom that can be rented out for special events and competitions. They offer multiple competitions a week for pistol disciplines allowing you to practice your firearm skills. You can rent pistols to try out before you buy from another dealer. You can also rent machine guns to fire on their rifle range. They do sell ammunition specifically for the machine guns and you must use range ammo for your machine gun rentals. The staff is helpful and friendly as they can be given that they're no longer a gun shop, the shop is relatively clean well organized and reasonably priced. The shooting fees are not per hour, but for as long as you choose to shoot, they offer an annual membership which gives you more benefits more free guest passes, and more. I encourage everyone in Northwest Johnson County to check them out for your firearm shooting needs. read more

TL'DR - good large shooting range and gun store. Bit dated and dusty. I like it. Now for the novel: Been shopping here 20+ years, ever since I moved to town. They certainly do have the largest range in the area, upper floor is 15 or 30 lanes with target carriers out to 25 yards. Lower level is two open rooms for competition events; IDPA, IPCS, revolver, steel challenge and more. Nice conference room downstairs too. Lane fees are great - one fee for the annual membership - and you get to shoot free that day - and one flat rate for the lane for as long as you care to shoot. No hourly fees. Air handlers work well, pulling smoke and lead fumes downrange and out of your face. Air is directly pulled from outside, so it's right cold in the winter. After becoming a member (not sure of the time period) you can rent a wide variety of handguns to try out, and I understand they have recently gotten their machine gun permit and have rental machine guns there tool. Pull the trigger once - all 20 rounds fire off, unless you let go of the trigger. While busy, the employees have always been polite, even when I ask the same question 3 or 50 times in a row (usually about pricing and the colored tags). Their firearm selection is first rate, focused on personal protection. Pricing is better than you find at gun shows, and usually competitive with online shops. They've been very gracious in letting me look and handgun after handgun, knowing I''m not buying anything that day. They've helped me to purchase and installed TFO TruGlo sights on my handguns, fair price, on the spot turnaround and no labor fees. They offer reasonable prices on factory ammunition, and frequently have bulk ammunition sales. They also have reloading supplies, although I've never seen any reloading presses set up or for sale. Their accessory selection (holsters, primarily) has always been an afterthought it appears; they do have some holsters, but they are not in good order on the pegs and you simply have to fflip through to see what you can find. I don't blame them - with the diversity of makes, models and types of holsters, limited wall space, and brutal competition online, I wouldn't put a lot of time or energy into holsters. They could stand to clean it up and dust though. One less star for the store for cleanliness. Granted, it's an old building. Granted, millions of round have been shot in it. But it could stand a coat of paint, fresh carpet every 3 or 5 years, and a weekly detail clean of everything, and daily dusting. When it's busy, and they've had a ammo truck delivery, it's very crowded, hard to move around in during peak times. Try to come by at 10AM or 2PM instead of lunch or just after dinner when everyone else does. As I understand they've recently been bought out and now offer remarkably better communications, dozens of classes from the newest shooter to the grizzled old competition shooter through several vendors, not just the owners. Very pleased to see that, have taken one of my sons through their basics class and he was *geeked*. Wife and I did a couples / 2 person self defense class, and she was treated with respect, highly enjoyed the class and still brags on the class to this day. Long story short, big range. I've been coming here for several years. My dad use to come here when I was in HS. The folks at the shop are very helpful if you just ask. They are all very knowledgeable and willing to help. I don't get the review comments about everyone being so rude... thats just not how it is. They may be short and to the point but it's a gun shop not a bar or coffee shop. They know their stuff and if that's off putting for you try one of the boutique ranges and sip your latte and ask for someone to hold your hand while you shop for some new clothes or home decorations. Prices are fare and I don't mind paying a bit extra at times to support a local shop that provides a great service for the area I live in. read more

This is the only range I practice at. I read some of the other reviews and agree with them all--even the bad ones. lol! The prices are high, the staff isn't that outgoing or friendly, the place is dim and kinda spooky in my opinion. So why the four stars? I like having everything I could possibly need in one place. I like having experts that can answer my questions. They may not smile and shit while they are answering my question, but I'm not exactly looking for that here!! Beware, the customer service here is terrible. The guns are overpriced, probably preying on Johnson County snobs. The Kimber we looked at was $200 more then it was in Topeka and somehow was still "new" in spite of obviously being fired several times. The customer service was horrible and the guy at the front counter was a dick. You would think customer service would improve after someone shot the place up killing both employees and customers alike, but no. Still terrible. Just a matter of time before it happens again. We decided while waiting a mere twenty minutes for a range that we did not want to attribute to the death of more innocent customers by contributing to their existence with our patronage. Upon informing the head slave driver that we wished to escape the plantation, he barked at us that we had only 10 more minutes to wait. We asked for our id back and he refused. After a short hand grabbing competition, we scored our identification and were off. Far far away from this horrible place of darkness. Sometimes a pedicure can't calm my nerves. Occasionally, chocolate will not work either. And since I'm learning self-defense anyway, I found my new stress buster, The Bullet Hole. This is the only indoor shooting range in the area, so they pretty much have all the business and can have nasty attitudes if they want to. But they don't, which I really enjoy. I have been here quite a few times over the last couple years. Last year, I signed up to take their ever so useful handgun safety class. It's a basic course of proper gun safety, how to handle a gun, proper stance, etc. They also offer a conceal and carry course if you're interested. Maybe I'll be packin some heat in the future. Look out robbers and thugs. Patty, the instructor, was a real badass. She was very patient, understanding, and knew her guns. Let me tell you, I want her on my side in case of a brawl. Now, I have been back to practice with my new gun so I can hit em where it hurts, only if need be of course! A membership for the year is $30 and Wednesday is ladies night girls. Get your gun toting booty down there and bring a guest for only $10. All the staff are ready and willing to help with anything. And they rarely give that look that says, really, are you that stupid. Just kidding, but hey it is a bunch of guys that work in a gun store, so what do you expect. Certainly not cupcakes and flowers. I recommend coming here for all your firearm needs. The staff made us feel like we shouldn't have came and told other staff members to "watch the cameras close" and had no info on any of the firearms in the cases because it was a "long day". Either way black or purple i had $1000 in my pocket to spend on something in there at that time and i left with nothing because last time i came here i brought 10k worth of guns to shoot at the range in one bag and they made me feel like i had a highpoint and didnt know what i was doing regardless of my professional attitude and firearm handling and i asked the guy at the front if it was okay to use my franklin binary trigger and he said "yeah sure"! This is a place to come and enjoy your second amendment rights. Please study history and find out why the founders thought it was so important for this right and this place of business to exist. Your school teacher probably steered you wrong. Plenty of lanes, targets, gear, guns, and ammo for your firearms addiction(s). I found the service friendly, yet curt, and helpful... and I do not complain about it. This is a busy place at times and they don't have time to jerk around. Ammo is not overpriced. Some guns are, but if you know your pricing you can talk to them about meeting a price you have seen. Membership in reasonable and gives you a small discount on lane/range fees and guest fees... plus generous gun rental rates ($5 with unlimited switching... so, for example, you could try every 9mm they have for $5). Came in ready to buy a 9mm sig or glock. I spoke with a young ruff looking gent and he told me he didn't get why people carry more ammo. He stated you only need 3 shots in a firefight anything more and something went wrong.. ? What? Im a Marine and having someone behind that counter tell me something like that blew my mind. During our conversion I was trying to be as polite and pleasant as possible after apparently annoying him with my interest in what they sell (guns). He was also way to busy for me, messing with inventory and looking irritated. I should mention I was the only customer in the store lol. I gave up and left after he painstakingly showed me 2 pistols. A couple days later I called up to get a quote on a trade in (near new XDs 45) and he told me again he was way to busy while being a pretentious ass. Awful experience and bad information. He is in a seat in which people may NEED good advice and his words and customer service were a massive failure in that regard. Very sad and very lazy. The older man at the register was cool. To top things off, when I asked to see a gun out of the case, the employee did not safety check the gun. Despite the historic location, the facility is top notch. They also offer a good variety of training, both classroom and hands-on. I've been meaning to go to The Bullet Hole since I arrived in KC in June, but have never made it there until recently. My first visit was part of a class that I took. We were in the basement. Although it was very cold, it was a nice area for a class. There were pieces of cardboard that we stapled our targets to. When we needed to shoot from a further distance, we physically had to move ourselves. The targets did not move. But, that was perfectly sufficient for a class. My second trip was for pleasure. I went with two of my friends on a Saturday around 2 PM. There were many people there, however we were able to get two lanes next to each other right away. This time we were upstairs. Again, it was cold, but there was a heater that I could stand in front of if I got too cold. This is the first range that I've been to that has had a hand crank to move the target rather than a switch that moves the target electrically. No big deal though. The one kind of annoying thing about this place is if you go there and end up in a lane right against the wall. That lane has a target hanger that has two clips, and unless you have a large target that can be suspended with a clip at each corner, the target must be suspended from just one clip, which causes it to be very far left or very far right. When I clipped the target to the left clip, I kept hitting my head on the knobs on the wall. When I clipped the target on the right clip, I was standing right up against the wall. However, I made it work, so it wasn't too awfully bad. The store and rental part of the range is decent, but VERY small. It does not take a very busy day for that place to get very crowded and cramped. The people seem to be friendly. I field stripped and cleaned my gun the night before going to the range, but spent a couple hours trying to put it back together, and could not get the slide stop back in to save my life. After those unsuccessful and frustrating hours, I was left with nothing but some very scratched up hands. So, I took it with me and I asked one of the workers if he could help me, and he very willingly helped me and explained to me what I need to do next time. I bought two magazines for my .45, which the workers had to dig out of the stock room for me. I also bought a bag of cotton squares for cleaning. They seemed to have anything and everything that a person might need. I'm going to try to return on Wednesdays because women shoot free. But, I will go back any other time that I get the desire to shoot. There is hardly a bigger stress relief (except for a good hard work out) than the one that I get when going to the shooting range. And there is hardly anything more satisfying than shooting a nice tight spread. The more practice I get, the tighter my spread will be. I will be back. read more

This is the first and only shooting range I've ever been to. Being a woman, I was a bit intimidated, but my first visit, I got a very helpful gentleman helping me. He explained everything to me patiently. Unfortunately, on my 2nd visit, that guy wasn't there, so the service was much more surly. I thought this place was great! We went on Wednesday night, ladies night! They have reasonable prices and all the staff was super knowledgable and nice. As well as on the range there was a group of guys not following the rules and putting loaded clips in their guns while not in their booth. They were extremely busy that night and one of the staff still caught that and came on the range to instruction him of the rules for safety purposes. That was reassuring to see, that regardless of how busy they were up front they are still making sure that the range rules were a high priority to them! Experience and Review: After shopping around other local gun shops, I ended up at The Bullet Hole mainly do to their selection of firearms and shooting equipment. The Bullet Hole not only has a great selection of firearms and shooting supplies, but they keep all of their products well stocked. I was instantly greeted after entering the shop and then directed to the gentleman who would further assist me, Jason. Jason, first initiated contact with me by introducing himself and greeting me with a welcoming handshake. After a brief conversation I told, Jason, that I was looking to buy my first pistol (a GLOCK 19) he pulled one out of the case and properly presented it to me. After further discussion about the pistol, price, holsters, ammunition, etc... I filled out my paperwork and, Jason, then began to process all of my information. While, Jason, was taking care of that, I began to make small talk with another employee, Chad. After talking with both of these gentlemen, it was clear to me that they were not simply gun shop employees, but responsible gun owners themselves. As a somewhat experienced shooter, but first-time gun-buyer, I was treated with respect and felt very comfortable throughout the entire process. I was never "sold" anything nor was I ever pressured to make a purchase. I had done my homework on what I wanted and just needed to get a feel for the pistol I wanted. After choosing my pistol (the same GLOCK 19 I was looking for) I was presented with other services and accessories, but again I never felt pressured into purchasing anything I didn't want or need. Because of this and the overall experience I received, The Bullet Hole is now my go-to gun shop. Conclusion: -Prices. The prices are competitive and fair, but couple that with the customer service I received, I got the most value I could get for the money. -Staff. The staff is a group of professionals. They know their products, their services, and know how to talk to you without talking down to you. - Customer Service. The customer service I received was top-notch and everyone (including me, a first-time gun buyer) was treated with respect. However I can see that if you're acting incompetent, ignorant, or unsafe that you will be treated in the same manner, but by no means do I think that is unjustified. These are deadly weapons we are dealing with, and you need to respect the seriousness of the environment. - Selection. The selection is great. They had everything I wanted/needed and more. - SAFTEY. I never felt insecure in the least bit. Not with the staff, not with the location, and not with the other customers. read more

Overall a pretty good place. The range is nice and well laid out and the store seems to have a decent amount of good product. They are also very reasonably priced for their membership and range fees. The staff working the front counter can be kind of brash at times but then again I don't really go to a gun range to socialize with the guy at the counter. They do know their stuff though and have been able to help me with any questions I have had.
