First time visit to Parma Woods. Good experience and the range supervisor is very diligent and careful to ensure everyone's safety. You have to get used to the timing of things as far as time to shoot, setup time of your target and non-fire times, but it works. My very first time shooting. Came here for Valentine's Day because I had always wanted to go to a shooting range and my guy just bought a new gun he wanted to show off. A local recommendation had suggested he take me to Parma Woods and he had never been here before either. I loved everything about this experience. They had a nice parking lot, and main building with clean restrooms and information inside. You pay through a window on the outside, and it's only $3 CASH or check. That was the only challenge though because we assumed we could charge it. Scrounged for $3 in the car and my guy signed in. Apparently it covers the stall and is not a per person rate. My guy said the money helps the conservancy they are associated with too. Nice folks work there- very friendly and informative. They checked the type of gun he brought and the bullets. No green tips allowed whatever that means. We were fine and cleared to go. I really liked that they had all the safety stuff right there available for you to use for free. One bin had headphone mufflers to protect your ears and the other had all kinds of clear safety glasses. They also gave us targets. We walked to the covered shooting area and found the aisle we were assigned. We pinned up our aisle number card and waited for the clear to begin. I loved how safe everything felt there. They have a clear system of go/no go with everyone cleared out of their booths and chaining them up, flipping their signals to orange and then a light changing color along with them telling you by speaker to tell you when it is clear to go in front to move around your targets and put fresh ones on. Then everyone comes back and flips their signals again and they tell you when it's all clear to remove the chains and start shooting again. They do have certain rules you need to follow. Pointing your weapon down range only. Putting it in the rack unloaded when stop signal is on, etc. All in all, I felt safe and had a great time. My guy is in the military and said I shot wonderfully (for a California girl) and was super impressed that I did so well my first time and with his fancy new AR15 as the first gun I ever shot. I would totally go again and would like to go back to Parma Woods range. They have a great facility. read more

GO TO A PRIVATE RANGE. Why go to a government run shooting range, which prevents you from shooting green tips because of "damaging" the range backdrop even though the end of the range was hundreds and hundreds of feet of gravel and dirt. Honestly, this range is probably good for BB guns at the most. read more

Was a bit nervous at first but after watching the required safety video and observing how everyone follows protocol, I was confident this was a well run facility. read more

My husband and I had never shot a firearm. We were in town visiting my uncle, and asked him to take us to the range. (He visits regularly.) I was very impressed and by no means did we feel intimidated. I felt very safe with all the rules and regulations. I enjoyed talking to the other folks who were there. The employees were friendly. I concur with the other evaluations. I've given the range 4 stars for there is only one area where I feel it might have been better. Of paramount concern is safety and the range management watches the shooters closely for any potential or otherwise safety issues. They have a good procedure and follow it to a T. For the millions (yes millions) of dollars put into this range, there could have been some ballistic material put in the walls between shooters to prevent injury in the event of an accidental lateral discharge. But again, the staff is very diligent in their instruction to keep weapons pointed down range. But unsafe Naybobs visit every range...and it only takes a second... While I do have the luxury of living in the country and being able to target practice with my firearms at home, THIS range is fabulous. It is outdoor, but the individual stalls are covered. You can shoot a hand gun, rifle or shotgun here. It's only $3.50 an hour and there is LOTS of room. They offer all sorts of neat classes--many are FREE--and it is kept very clean! It isn't super convenient to get to, but it is a nice range at a GREAT price. They have a website, too. They have schedules, hours and fees posted there! read more

Hadnt been to the range in years until I went to a ccw class a couple weeks ago. This was my first time venturing to a range on my own. I took a .45 Glock, .32 Llama and a small .22lr rifle. Went Saturday, 10 August 2013, around noon. All of the positions were full, but I just had to wait 20 minutes or so and got on the range. Fired 350 or so rounds, most thru the .45 as I had 3 13 round magazines for it, one good 7 round mag for the .32 and one 10 round mag for the .22. The range does follow range control from what could be called a range tower, but I'm retired Military, so spent quite a few years on very controlled lock step firing ranges. This was fine for me. The price was great $3 an hour. They do about 15 minutes of firing and then you go change out your targets/reposition them to different ranges. One of the rules is 3 seconds between rounds, but again that was fine. The place looks great, well maintained, they have a soda machine and candy machine on site, I brought a cooler with sodas/water. I'm looking forward to going back, might even get the wife to go with me and we can check out the trail I read about in the other reviews! read more

The last writer must be married to a staff member. They are in your face, continuously! Impossible to just go and shoot. Shooting there is a job, not for pleasure. If you like being watched and interferred with constantly, then I recommend you go. This range is for the very first time you ever shot. Experienced shooters are better off going elsewhere. In no way is the staff supportive. read more

I originally from KC and up here visiting family. My brother in law and I went to this range 7/2/13. PROS: The facility is beautiful. There are 25 covered booths. The price is definitely right - $3 (1 hour limit if there are shooters waiting but there wasn't this day) and the targets are provided free of charge. CONS: You must use only their targets which is a standard double bullseye. You are required to watch a training video before entering the range, about following their particular procedures which are somewhat confusing if it is your first visit. It's right of I-435 but there's no quick way to get there. You have to exit off at Hwy 45 and go a long way around and south down to River road then under the interstate. You're probably gonna need a GPS to find the route. read more

Overall a pretty darn good range and you certainly can't complain about the price. Sometimes a little over safety conscious, but in the end that's not a bad thing and you can't fault someone for wanting to be overly safe. Only reason I'm not giving five stars is I do think they could do some little things, to improve the shooting experience. read more

Very nice staff and outstanding range. 32covered booths -16 pistol/16 rifle with benches. Rifle is 25-100 yards and pistol is 7-50. They have a cease fire every 15 minutes to change targets. $3 an hour and they supply the targets No steel core or armor piercing rifle ammo. I love that it's controlled. Ever been to a range and have an idiot sweeping people with their barrel? Not here. You go down range and they're fiddling with their rifle at their bench? Not here. Great place for kids. read more

Nice facility and nice staff...but I don't come there very often to zero for deer hunting! I mostly come to test/validate firearms and loads for self-defense. If I post a target that looks even remotely like anything human they go into conniptions saying this range is not for that. (Never mind the police train there!) I do know we have the basic human right to own and use firearms for reasons of self-defense. Too bad Missouri and Department of Fish and Game willfully ignore this fact. I'm not writing saying I want to go practical pistol or rifle. I want to shoot at a target that uses the human form...(with no apologies to anyone too.) I want to 'double-tap' on occasion too...(again with no apologies.) other than this complaint it's a nice and nicely run range. read more
