Happy Hour! The nice thing about the Blue Pig is that it is off on a side street so not very many…read morepeople besides the locals know about it! I'm sure that the locals probably don't appreciate me and my American (and a few British) friends crashing their pub, but I like the atmosphere, the reasonably priced drinks, and the jukebox. It has character and probably isn't very politically correct... but that's what I like it. I'm not sure if they have found a cook yet, but they used to do some fantastic chips, although the burgers weren't quite as good. The bar staff have always been really friendly and pleasant. If I venture into town for a drink, this is where you'll find me.

I tell you something, if you look hard enough in Grantham town, you'll find some real gems. I say…read morethis because the blue pig is hidden out the way, but is it a real gem? First off I say that I went for dinner but all I'm going to say is it was lovely, the reason being, is upon a quick chat with the manager he said he was stopping meals within the next week or two. So for me to recommend you to go here for the food, would be pointless. Shame though because the food was very nice. The pub is delightfully traditional, not for the modern businessman, and maybe a miss for families but for an average Joe looking for a chat and a drink it's perfect. The bar staff are friendly, and you can even have a chat with the wonderful manager there. The pricing for drinks is average, which you would expect from a small pub in this day and age. It's not a perfect place though, outside needs a lot of work. The beer garden is hidden away, and is surrounded by brick walls and an old shed. There is also area for smokers, which badly put together. But it's all forgivable when you step back into the pub. Rating - Food : 4/5 Atmosphere : 3.9/5 Service : 4.5/5 Pricing : 2.5/5 Overall : 3.8/5 Recommend For: - Traditional Pub Goer/ Someone looking for a local/ Someone looking for escape

We stayed there recently for a 4 night break. Although it is primarily a Golf Resort hotel, we went…read moreto visit local attractions and to use the swimming pool. We had a spacious room, with two very comfortable Queen sized beds. The bathroom was spacious and clean, and the towels nice and fluffy, and changed daily if you wanted them. Room service (cleaning etc) was very good. Although the room was comfortable, it did not have air-conditioning, and there were no reading lights next to the beds (lighting overall was a bit gloomy). Noise from the corridor also did penetrate the room, if groups were returning late from the bar (it didn't help that we were at the reception end of the corridor). The buffet breakfast was good, with a decent choice of cooked and continental items, and you can order additional items from the menu at no extra cost, (and some at a charge). It did get busy at times. Dinner was perfectly decent (though limited vegetarian choices). Service for dinner was a bit hit and miss; the first night was excellent, but the second night we were left for 20 minutes without drinks or the food order being taken. The final night was somewhere in betqween. It seemed to depend a lot on which staff were on. We did find that some of the large golfing groups could be quite noisy at mealtimes - so tell the waiting staff on arrival if you want a quieter spot within the (admittedly) large dining room. The grounds are lovely, althoguh you can't walk around the gold course, unless playing (even in the evening). There are some nature trails in the adjcent woods, however, leading up to the Belton Woods Lodges (which are on the same site). The Spa facilities are clearly a big draw, and we used the pool every day. The health centre facilities were clean and spacious, though the pool can get busy with families, and there is only one circular lane for dedicated swimmers. Overall, we would happily go back, but maybe ask for a room on the first floor. We might also try some of the pubs in surrounding villages for an evening meal.

The distinctive feature here is the very wide range of sporting and leisure facilities of which the swimming pool is just one. Rooms are good as you would expect although lighting was surprisingly poor. Dinner was good but the restaurant is very big and can be noisy so do not expect a quiet meal. Hotel and restaurant are quite expensive and wine in the restaurant is very expensive. Staff are all very good. Grounds seem to be lovely although not visited.
