A little pub at the top of the hill in Lincoln - near the cathedral. Nice place, staff were pleasant enough as well. Bit quiet on a Wednesday though!

Great location - especially if you can sit outside in the summer. Beer and food both good standard chain pub fare. Reasonably priced.

It has its origins dating back to 1549 and was formerly known as the Earl of Scarborough Arms. The Lion & Snake claims to have at least two ghosts. One takes the form of an old woman with her grey hair tied up in a bun - she is said to look completely solid and has been mistaken for a real person on one occassion. Another entity takes the form of a scruffy man, and has been observed vanishing through a solid wall. Can get busy during the tourist season as it is close to all the Upper Hill attractions. it also seems to be an after work haunt of the security men from the Castle courts. Quiz night is Tuesday. There is quite a range of decent food in this pub that has lots of character, comfort and a warm atmosphere. it may be a little shabby but that is part of the charm. Bit scary but they appear to have regular speed dating nights now for £20 eek.

The service By the young adults serving was offhand. We chose to sit outside due to COVID restrictions and it was such a nice evening. We ordered two burger meals which were vegi stacker and cowboy. Any decent chef would have not served them as the salad leaves on the plate were very wilted neither of us ate them. Died the week previous, by the look. The burger buns were possibly the cheapest available anywhere. When our food arrived we ordered more drinks. A large Chardonnay and thatchers haze. A wine and beer arrived, order taken by same person, completely wrong. So my advice is to steer clear if you want a decent meal and the drinks you order. It's a shame as it's in a prime location.

They open around 12ish and we were the first ones to be seated. We ordered soups, a chicken burger, a bean burger and a pesto wrap to eat. The soup on this particular day was turnip or parsnip (i think). Nevertheless it tasted very well and the bread that accompanied it was also beautifully baked. The chicken burger tasted well, it was a Thai style burger. It came with 2 onion rings and all the trimmings. It also came with a bowl of chips. Whilst it tasted well it felt slightly overdone, not too much, just a little bit. This made the burger fell a little dry. However, it was not catastrophic. The bean burger also was well made and was flavoursome, as was the pesto wrap. By the time we got through the burgers we were so full that we couldn't finish the chips, which was a bit sad. The service was great and the prices were regular pub-grub prices. I would definitely go back, based on this experience and sincerely hope they maintain their levels of quality, taste and service.

Thinking we must have been forgotten because it took a full hour to get our food. How long does it take to dish up one of the specials and stew at that?! I was about ready to just walk out. True, it was busy due to quiz night and we were not involved on a quiz team but we saw MANY plates of food go from the kitchen to tables while we waited for ours. Stew was good with a side of roasted veg and mash. Service was friendly. But, an hour wait for food is too long, thus the three stars.
