Service was excellent . The food choices are limited but delicious except for the Pastitsio which is a large square casserole with hard ziti noodles. I did not like it . We tried the hummus which was amazing and the pita bread was soft, warm and fresh. The gyro plate was delicious with generous portions of meat with Greek salad. My husband and I have been visiting The Brown Fig on a regular basis. Yes it can be crowded so making reservations on a Friday or Saturday night is advised. There are often open seats at the bar if your party is able to sit there. The food is phenomenal. I am a wine drinker but the bartender suggested a mixed drink - I was hesitant - but now it's the only drink I order! It's a cozy restaurant with a small outside eating area. We have never had bad service or food. read more

I'd love to give a raving review but alas, I cannot. The restaurant doesn't appear to be very family friendly, at least it doesn't appear to be from our 10 minute experience inside. We arrived today (Thursday) at 8:45, waited to be seated, then waited for the server, and then was told that the kitchen closed at 9pm. I looked at my watch and it was now 9:00:15. Well, 15 seconds too late to eat. So we got up and left. All we saw was basically a few dozen people standing around in a loud room, drinking and talking. I'd say that we'll have to come back another time (and earlier) but no. We'll pass thanks. read more

Called early & asked if they take reservations ..no : first come first serve... no problem .... Love the atmosphere & menu here. Food is fantastic, drinks good. Came during the holidays on a week night, table for 3, 30-40 min wait, no problem-however, people coming in stating they texted the owner for a table... came right in & sat down. We asked the hostess abt it , she responded ... oh, you would have to know the owner & she'll save you a table... NOT good business! We waited over an hour because others kept coming in & having a table right there in front of us! gives the place a bad look. read more

My new favorite restaurant in Monroe! Want to thank the owner, Vickie who graciously sat with us for a bit and gave us some back story on this little gem of a place. From the fantastic decor to the outstanding food, everything was simply top notch. I was so happy to see this place bustling with people. And with good reason! The food is simply delicious. I felt like the prices were fair and portions were generous...can't say the same for some of the other finer dining establishments in the downtown area. My only suggestion would be to add some candles to the outdoor patio tables to enhance the ambiance and ward off the pesky summertime pests. Don't be dissuaded by latecomers who leave negative reviews!! The Brown Fig is simply a breath of fresh air. So happy for Vickie in her accomplishment but the real winner is the city of Monroe. We went to celebrate our 32nd anniversary of our first date and we loved it! Greek restaurant with casual to dress casual, welcoming and neighborly atmosphere. Great for intimate and small groups with table and bar seating. We shared a Figgy Sour drink, ordered Tzatziki and Hummus Duo appetizer, gyro platter and shrimp souvlaki entrees, zucchini side dish (which was awesome) and chocolate mocha and a lemon raspberry desserts but I didn't get their proper names. Every detail was taken into account from the hostess to the server to the chef. The owner came to the table a few times to see if we enjoyed our food and then sent us home with the Italian Came with cream filling when we told her what we were celebrating. The food was excellent and service was on par with the level of food served. They've just been open only two months so they didn't calculate that a lot of Southerners like iced tea and ran out early in the evening. They are increasing their tea order accordingly. All in all -- we highly recommend The Brown Fig and will be back. read more

Tonight was our first visit but it will definitely not be the last. We sat at the bar because at 5:15pm they had a line and it was a little to warm for outside dining. We split two items and still took some home. The wine and drink list was very nice with some new wines we were not familiar allowing some adventure. The food was excellent and every dish we saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing. We had the opportunity to meet Vicky the owner who explained with pride that these were her Mothers recipes. We had our first meal at The Brown Fig tonight. We arrived right at 5pm and the restaurant was hopping! We took a seat at the bar and met Jacob the bartender. Jacob was knowledgeable and helpful in guiding us through the menu options. We ordered the hummus, the Athena flatbread, and the Pastitsio entree. Everything was DELICIOUS! My friend and I were excited to try this restaurant and traveled a distance to get there. Upon arrival, we discovered some had reservations, but we didn't think they took them. The hostess had to ask permission to seat us at a high top in the back dining room. The blonde female who appeared to be the owner or manager was extremely rude and never spoke to us or welcomed us. We just stood there until she finally allowed the hostess to seat us! The drinks were just so-so, but we did enjoy the burrata and fig flatbread. Our server, a student at UGA, was excellent. After our bill was paid, we were chatting before we were ready to leave. The blonde manager or owner suddenly arrived at our table and asked if we were finished. I asked if she needed our table, and she rather rudely said she had people waiting!! STILL, we never heard a word of thanks or "Happy New Year" or anything! Then she firmly banged our table twice and left! Ma'am, you need some training in the hospitality business! We're done! read more

I'm a former classically trained chef and restauranteur from Europe so perhaps I'm biased when I see someone brave enough to bring something other than shrimp 'n grits, meatloaf or burgers to Monroe. Kudos to Vickie and her team - the food was fresh, perfectly prepared and presented and the service was excellent. We had the Tzaziki and Hummus Duo, the Souvlaki and the Athena Flatbread and they even had my English wife's favorite Pimm's cocktail. We decided to go to The Brown fig for our date. We were excited to try it after reading all the positive reviews. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly hostess who said it would be a 30 minute wait. Ok, no problem, it's a Friday night and we expected to wait. After 30 mins we were seated and waited for our server. They were busy and did have a large party seated next to us (they already had drinks/cocktails). The server for our section was going around to all his tables, took an order for a dessert & served the dessert, took an order from another table & refilled their drinks, took 2nd order of cocktails from the large table, then took their food order, also helped another server deliver food to a table. During this time my husband made eye contact with him several times. He never once acknowledged us or said anything to us. After another 30 min wait he finally came over to get our drink order (which was just water) and we placed our food order. 30 minutes sitting there to order water is UNACCEPTABLE. He could have at least acknowledged us and said he will be with us shortly. The food came out about 35-40 mins, which is also fine as I expected a wait on the food due to how busy they were. The food was ok nothing spectacular. It might have tasted better if we were not so aggravated by this point. We tried the lemon cake based on recommendation. It tasted like a Little Debbie cake. It wasn't bad, just nothing to rave about. Definitely not worth the $7.50 I paid for such a small piece of cake. The over all atmosphere and decor was really nice. The best part of our experience there was the hostess. She was extremely nice and apologetic about the wait for a table. She is the only reason I'm giving this place any stars.
