A really great dog friendly breakfast option in Dana Point. As you would guess it's a casual breakfast and lunch spot that has indoor seating as well as out. I came with my dogs this past weekend so we decided to sit outside and had great service in the beautiful weather. There is a large free parking lot attached and as I understand, the entire complex is about to get a major remodel, but currently all the shops are still open. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out extremely fast. For this visit, I chose the Chili Cheese Omelette and loved it. I added chorizo which I would highly recommend. Pricing was fair and they were great with the drink refills so I would highly recommend to anyone searching for a great and casual option. read more

Came here the other day to meet a friend for lunch. The customer service was somewhat attentive. The food, overall, is a 3 1/2 stars. I had the Ortega Chili and Cheese Omelette with fruit and toasted bagel. It was just ok. It could be better. Huge Ample Parking Lot in front. And like all other reviews stating that the prices are too high, I would have to agree. For what you pay, I expected the food to be 5 Star Hotel quality. Sadly, this is not the case. The plus side is that they have a spacious outdoor patio that welcomes dogs on a leash. So, in conclusion, in my opinion, the other negative reviews posted for The Brig are true. I'm giving this place a generous 4 Stars! If they want to continue business and charge these high prices, they definitely need to step up the service and food. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. Went there today for breakfast. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with two eggs, hashbrowns and crispy bacon. The food came out quickly and everything was on point --the waitress did her job very efficiently checking on us and making sure we had hot coffee at all times through our meal. The building is an old restaurant located at Dana point Harbor had a beautiful view. I thought the prices were on point if you're looking for a good nice breakfast head to the brig. read more

Met a friend here for breakfast just to catch up. I had never been to The Brig and while I have heard of it, was not really sure where it was. The friend said it was one of his favorite places in Dana Point for breakfast and it had been here forever. We had our choice of seating, since it was still pretty early and not many diners yet. The menu was large and had many choices for breakfast. I am a breakfast burrito fanatic, so if they offer one, I will choose it. The description threw me off a bit, since it was not a classic breakfast burrito, but it did sound intriguing. From the menu: Breakfast Burrito: Two large scrambled eggs, mixed with diced green peppers, onions, your choice of chopped bacon or ham, rolled in a giant flour tortilla, topped with ranchero sauce and melted jack & cheddar cheese. Served with rice & refried beans. I went with the ham option and it was served pretty quickly and the whole thing, including the plate was uber hot. I could not push the plate around unless I was using my napkin. That's hot! To help things along, I cut a couple of slices into the burrito to allow the steam and hotness to escape. I looked great, but as I mentioned before not your classic breakast burrito. The peppers and onions, the ranchero and cheese on top, all made this a bit different. As I learned, different can be fantastic. It was a very good breakfast meal. Eggs cooked nicely and the mix of the other ingredients along with the toppings were excellent. If you are at The Brig around breakfast and are really hungry, get their version of a breakfast burrito. Along with the massive burrito, they serve rice and beans. Checking in at my favorite spot in Dana Point the Brigg. Spending time in Dana with my wife. My daughter with bun in the oven, son in law and grandson. My wife and I had the French dip special she got fries and I got pasta salad. They were great as always. Taste great good as always good amount of meat with the onions and mushrooms accenting the sandwich. The caspastrano Ranchero burger was really good. My son in law is picky he loves it. My daughter had Chicken fried steak, she says it was very good. This spot is a classic and memorable place for many young and old. The future of Dana point is progress of new looks and glam. After all of the great meals over the years at the Brig, I finally had Kevin's made- from-scratch cinnamon roll. It was the best cinnamon roll I've ever had! I have been missing out! We wandered into The Brig on a quiet Saturday afternoon, and while the ambiance is a bit dated, the food and service were fantastic! We had clam chowder, the Turkey Ortega Melt and fries and it might very well be the best of those items I've ever had. We were too full to try it, but they have a full menu of house-made desserts, including New Orleans bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Our waitress, Deana, was super attentive and fun. Im a local around here for the beach and bike riding and i don't know why but i never went into The Brig before so i gave it a shot and i loved the food it was good . I had a huge Turkey and bacon triple stack sandwich and a house salad that was awesome. The service here was also super friendly and tentative. Its very relaxing and quiet just the the way i like it and i loved relaxing to the football game that was on. The only reason i gave a 4 star is the menu is pricey but at least the food is good. read more

I've been eating here for at least 20 years and it used to be a great restaurant but over the past two years the prices have been going up and the quality has been going down. Today was the pits. $20 for a plate of nacho chips and cheese with some guac, sour cream, and pico de gallo. No refried beans, no green onions, no olives, no jalapenos, none of the stuff I expected. They call it Nachos Grand. It isn't - it just isn't. My friend's breakfast was fine - just too expensive. On top of that service was slow - it took over an hour from walking in to getting the bill. Our friends arrived in short order and we sat and got caught up with each other over coffee with no rush whatsoever from the restaurant staff. The food here is overall ok but the prices here are way too high considering the atmosphere, quality of food, and its presentation. Hamburgers are in the $20 range, salads are $20-ish, entrees are in the high $20s. I got the patty melt which was $19.25 and came with a side of fries. Fries were pretty crispy. The patty melt was a decent size and tasted good, but by the second half, I felt overwhelmed by the grease. Would've been nice if they had drained or patted off some of it. I did like how it had plenty of onions. For me, the issue really was the price. For maybe $5 less, food and atmosphere would've been totally fine. There are other spots in the harbor with less expensive meals and equally large portions. The good thing about this spot though is the service. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. My brother and I went for breakfast and overall everything was very nice: certainly you can't beat the ambiance as it's right on the water in the Harbor! However, I'm sure the rent's not low there and so the only bit to be aware of is that the prices are pretty high, compared, say, to some place like RJ's. I went for the chicken fried steak and it was a good choice the eggs were cooked exactly how I ordered the hash browns were crispy and the chicken fried steak was perfect. My partner had a spinach omlette and it was stuffed full they have a lot of choices for toast which was nice. The food was good enough that we stopped back in for lunch on our way back up the coast where I had my favorite lunch item a club sandwich which was also very good. Over all place was nice looked like it has not been updated since the 70's but that is not a bad thing. If I could select 0 stars, I gladly would. It was heartbreaking that I wanted to enjoy an early wedding anniversary with my wife and man. We were disappointed. The beans and mashed that were a warm side were in chef Ramseys' "stone cold" Beans, taco, and simple veggies were extremely under seasoned. Rice was raw and harder than the table. I'm extremely disappointed. The restaurant setting was extremely nice and relaxing. Staff was friendly and apologized for food being undercooked. My only complaint with staff is that when I asked for a glass of water, I was acknowledged but did not receive it. I had to ask a second time. My wife felt guilty for sending food back. My wife should not have felt this way when we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. My wife was nice enough to still leave a tip. I pray no one experiences this. read more

On a uncharacteristically cold S. Cal Christmas evening, my group was looking for an uncrowded indoor/outdoor space to sit down & talk. Most restaurants that were open were more crowded than some of our group was comfortable with, until we came upon the Brig, which had a covered outdoor eating area with heaters. No one was eating there, but when we asked, the Manager immediately agreed that we could sit out there. The staff continued to be incredibly accommodating by allowing us to order appetizers not on their limited Holiday menu. They were attentive and seemingly in great moods. The food and drink were hot, and basic but good. I will always give 5 stars for incredible service, and in this case the staff at Brig working Christmas 2021 deserve that and more. Your prices are outrageous. I was shocked to see you were charging over $21.00 for burgers. Online there are menus from your restaurant that show $12.50 for burgers. I get that those are old menus that linger online, but still, $21.00?? You weren't busy at all at lunchtime and I think maybe your prices could have something to do with it. read more
