Great beer

We had a fantastic experience! The waitstaff was awesome! The food was out of this world! The art and ambiance was perfect. This is our new favorite places!! we highly recommend anyone who is in the area! We absolutely will be coming back!

Good line up of beer on tap.

Sat in the nice courtyard patio. They have a good list of beer-on-tap, which were all from Ontario craft breweries. However, most of the items were from the GTA, which was a bit disappointing as we are from GTA and had already tried most of the beer. So we selected the ones from Ottawa and the surrounded areas. - Beyond the Pale Yummy Pale ale - Perth Brewery calypso session IPA I liked the Yummy Pale Ale - refreshing with juicy citrus flavors and a pleasant kick going down the throat. For the food - their popular dishes, Coq au vin and Duck confit poutine were not available. :( We had: - Tuna Tartare & Chips $ 16.95 - Burger 19.95 The food is better than other regular pubs. For example, the tuna tartare were marinated with well thought-out seasonings to match their homemade potato chips. The burger uses the thick ground chuck beef patty with full of beefy flavor. A bit dry but the soft brioche buns, aioli sauce and veggies completed the taste and texture. It came with a generous amount of crispy & fresh French fries with skin. We were here around 9pm (Early September) so it was already dark. This courtyard space has limited lighting, so it is hard to see the whole design of this space. If I come back, I would come here during the day or around sunset time to enjoy natural sun light.

This restaurant is located in the chic downtown area near the U S Embassy. This area has several bars, restaurants and boutiques. We were seated and greeted immediately by our server Dan. He made our evening dinner a memorably pleasant one. Our table ordered Fish & Chips, Chicken and French Dip. All were extremely tasty and definitely not bar food. Speaking of bar, they also offer many different types of beers and make a wonderful gin martini. This will be our place of choice when next in Ottawa.

Coq au vin

I was really surprised by this place. We stopped in on a Friday night looking for a later dinner. My partner had brought me here to try their Coq au vin. First, this is a pub - so food here I would expect it to be more like pub food. Second, it's near Byward market so I'm just expecting overpriced food. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find my pre-conceptions of this place were wrong. We had a baby tag along and they were very accommodating of the little one when I requested some banquette seating for more space and to lay baby down. The atmosphere was lively with a lot of people out for Friday night and the music was an awesome collection of chill EDM. Food/drinks were reasonably priced too. The Coq au vin? I really liked it - good balance of sauce on the chicken and nicely presented with some asparagus. Our fantastic server (according to the bill) was Georgia who took care of us making sure we had all the food and drinks we wanted. Good job to the staff at The Brig!

a sandwich and a bowl of soup

During my time in Ottawa, Brigs Pub was one of my favorite spots to eat at for good, simple comfort food. The chicken sandwich, SO good with classic shoe string fries. If you're planning to dine at Brigs for lunch, you can skip breakfast and sometimes dinner - the food is very filling. I've also tried the French onion soup, mouth watering. The service is always great and I will definitely visit again when I'm back in Ottawa.

Good food. Thrifty with their sauces! Don't charge $.50 for mayo. Come on. But good chicken sandwich.

I was SO stoked to finally visit the Moonroom after seven or so years of wanting to go!…read more After a Saturday night at Bluesfest, we waited somewhere else for about half an hour before they told us the kitchen was backed up, so we walked down Preston and I was so glad the Moonroom was still open. We didn't get there until about 12:30am and it was pretty full. We didn't leave until maybe 2:30am and it was still pretty full considering the time. They're not normally open this late, but it seems like a lot of the businesses on Preston decided to stay open later to catch the post-Bluesfest crowd. Good call! We decided to sit inside since there was an empty table, otherwise I would've liked to sit out on their back patio, which looked really pretty with the lights. Inside was a nice vibe though, too. It's small/narrow, dimly lit, with sheets covering the different coloured ceiling lights, and candles on the table. It's very intimate and pretty romantic. We sat close to the bar and there was another party of two beside us. The music was a bit louder so we couldn't really hear the other table's conversations, but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other. They were playing the Bee Gees when we walked (danced) in, so we were really about the jams. My husband got a rotating draught IPA by Daft Brewing, can't remember which one it was. I got the Jill Collins, which had Tanqueray Gin, Affino Limone, fresh lemon and mint, cane syrup, and a Moon soda top. It was super refreshing, bright, and not too sweet, which is exactly what I wanted. We shared/I mostly ate the "OG Grilled Cheese" and "Panzanella-esque Salad". The grilled cheese had aged Balderson and cream cheeses in a crunchy baguette smothered in toasted garlic butter, served with Moon ketchup. It was exactly as described, with very crunchy, buttery garlic bread and creamy cheese. The Moon ketchup is made in-house, thinner and chunkier than processed, store-bought ketchup, with stronger flavours. It was okay, but I didn't need to dip much in the ketchup because I really enjoyed the sandwich and it was on the saltier side itself. Because it was a lot creamier than gooey, I'd say it was more of a sandwich than a grilled cheese, but still very tasty. I really am not a huge fan of salad in general, but I can't complain when it was burrata on top. It also had salty bread, arugula, roasted tomatoes, fresh peaches, herbs, and honey. The peaches were more firm than ripe and juicy, which was good for a salad, though I wish they were a bit sweeter. The burrata wasn't creamy inside like I expected, but I love cheese in any form. I really don't know what possessed me to get salad, especially after a bunch of drinks in the wee hours of the night, but my body thanked me later. Salty, bitter, a little sweet, fresh, and not heavy, even with (more) bread and cheese. It was great. They unfortunately ran out of the affogato, which probably would've convinced my husband to stay longer. Too bad. The vegan dark chocolate gelato from Farinella that they put in it sounded amazing. The beer was $10.50, my cocktail was $19, grilled cheese $16, and salad $17, which was pricey. BUT, the fresh herbs are from their garden on the back patio, they make their own soda and ketchup (among other things), everything was delicious, and even late at night the cocktails and dishes were still well put together and tasted great, plus I finally came here after so long. No regrets! Our server was super nice, same with owner and one of the bartenders, who even popped over and sat with us for a bit to chat. And not in a weird/creepy/in-your-face way lol she was cool. She was the one who greeted us when we came in and said bye to us on our way out. There's no flash photography (I forgot to turn my auto flash off for my salad, sorry!). They're open all week from 5pm to 2am, no reservations, no large groups, and no phone (just stop by). I wasn't sure if it would meet the high expectations and hype I had built up in my head after waiting so long to visit, but it totally did. It's such a nice spot, we had an amazing time, and we will definitely be back!

This is going to sound ridiculous but I'm going to recommend that you go to this place and order…read morecarrots. The guys in the open kitchen are, at the moment, performing some legitimate sorcery with a plate of grilled salt-roasted carrots laid on a bed of harissa yogurt, zucchini pesto and pistachio. I cannot even describe the flavour of this dish except in superlatives. It was one of the best things I have tasted in years; a stop-me-in-my-tracks, silence -inducing burst of sweet-laced, wood-smoke tinged umami. This is the kind of dish I know I will forever try to recreate but will never come close to. Other stuff on the menu is great too. But while they have them, get the f-ing carrots.

Salade was made out of pomegranate, cucumber and radish. Not the highlight of my plate but good combination. My partner got the BLT he loved it. Because of the wait for our plated they gave us a complimentary dessert. Partner said it was delicious.

Came on a weekday afternoon, for an early dinner after a long day at the museum…read more A cozy and inviting place, with friendly staff, and lots of boardgames available to entertain while having a pint. Food was only okay: dinner menu was an eclectic take on pub classics. The lamb curry wrap was quite tasty, with a yogurt sauce cutting the slight heat of the curry. Black bean dip, burger, and pasta dish was okay, average, nothing memorable. This place is great for a drink, and their brunch options look wonderful as well, but perhaps not for an evening meal.

Over the years, I've fallen in love with The Manx, so time to do an update…read more Due to my brother's love of pubs and Guiness we end up here whenever he's in town. It is a wonderful place for a beer and a coze. On a cold wet winter night, this almost cave like spot is perfect. This past Friday we stepped in for dinner. We ordered off the concise menu. My choice was the Lamb Curry Wrap, lamb in a curry sauce, with roasted mushrooms, and melted cheddar in a wrap, and herbed sour cream. It was delicious and came with a salad (option for fries instead if you wish) which was a perfect compliment. There is also a Specials board so check that out too. They have a nice selection of beverages: beer, wine, mixed drinks. Something for everyone. One thing I always like here is the accoustics 'bubble'. Conversation is all around me, yet I can have a great conversation in my group and not hear what any other group is chatting about. Service by the way is top notch. Attentive when you need something but not hovering when you don't. That is, someone shows up when you need them.
