This place looked perfect, but then we ordered food. It wasn't good. Two of the three of us got sick. They ran out of a main ingredient on a pizza, but didn't tell us when we ordered and didn't offer any compensation otherwise. We were looking for a nice place in Basalt to grab dinner and some drinks and decided to give the Brick Pony Pub a try. We were not disappointed! The beers were served in giant goblets, staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent. The Mac and Cheese was perfectly made, creamy and au gratin style cheese, or if you're in the mood for something lighter the Chop Chop (asian style) salad was flavorful and hit the spot. Best fried chicken and best fish and chips in the valley. Oh, and the $5 goblets of 90 shilling are frosty, cold and HUGE! Have tried the pot pie (meh), spinach salad (pretty good), burgers (definitely upgrade to the bison), nachos (meh). No better place on a summer eve than their back patio. We were really hungry around 8 on a Saturday night. My husband just completed the Ragnar and I made a 5 hour drive from Denver to pick him up. The fries were excellent-burger ok. Boy has this place gone downhill. We visited often when we lived in Basalt. Went there recently with a party of 3. It wasn't too busy and we sat at a booth. There were clearly service issues throughout the restaurant. Tables not bused, and the only servers some kid and an older lady. We waited 15 minutes and no body even gave us a menu nor acknowledged us. People coming in after us got service, depending on where they sat. I got up to find someone and noticed the kitchen: in was a dirty mess. That's when we got up and left. I'll never go back. read more

First a full disclosure. I really like downtown Basalt and it's historical buildings. This makes the Brick Pony a logical choice. The setting is classic . The food is above average and the service is generally very good. I recommend the burgers. Big and flavorful. read more

Love this restaurant. Our kids love the Mac and cheese served in a huge bowl with a side of peas. The sweet potato fries with honey and cinnamon are fantastic. Food is usually pretty good, and the atmosphere has taken on a Country-Western type theme. Nothing special on the cocktail menu, but one downside is the beer. A draft beer is served in a 20 ounce goblet, that seems to weigh about 10 pounds. If you are at the bar or a table, this is okay, but if out for a night it gets very inconvenient as it is wide mouthed and heavy. Easy to spill. They will charge the same price for a regular glass with less beer. Service is always appropriate. read more

Chile was excellent. Buffalo meatloaf with mashed potatoes and well seasoned green beans was also very good. Missed five stars because of the dry, flavorless fried chicken. The green salad with the goat cheese, pumpkin seeds and apples was both very good and filling. The waitress, Claire, was friendly, fast, and attentive. After eating extremely mediocre food in Snowmass and okay but overpriced food in Aspen ($54 for a lobster Cobb salad), I was so happy to find this place. Just ate dinner here. Could not believe my eyes when The bill came for $30 rack of rib plate. What a damn rip off especially when the flat iron steak was only $19. Tourists be ware! The Rib "special" is $30 per plate with macaroni & cheese and cole slaw. Don't know of any rib plate worth $30. We got shafted. The beer was good though for $5 a piece. Won't eat here ever again when we visit CO. $140 for three people to eat dinner. Rip off!!!! read more

We ate lunch here after a morning hike at Maroon Bells. Great sandwiches on brioche buns. The grilled chicken sandwich had this delicious green relish. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was but was pleasantly satisfied. Husband had the mahi mahi sandwich and raved about it. I went in for lunch and sat at the bar with my friend. Emily, the bartender, was awesome. My friend and I both had beers which they serve in large, chilled goblet type glasses. I ordered the 911 burger which has ghost pepper cheese, fried jalapeños, & Tabasco onion strings on it... I love spicy food, this was delicious! Cooked perfectly to order. Comes with a side, I got fries. My friend ordered the mussels and they were delicious and perfectly cooked also. Stop by for a drink or some food and you will leave satisfied. read more

We are all for a good time, but have watched him get obnoxiously drunk several times and begin a hoe-down with his buds. Meanwhile we can't even get our check to pay and get the heck out. We seriously had to yell at the top of our lungs to get his attention this last time for the check - no thank you sir. Should've just walked out without paying - doubt he would've noticed. Too bad cuz the place and food are seriously awesome. We tried again this past Friday night, but after looking in and seeing the same shit-faced douche decided to go back to Riverside. Get the nachos for your appetizer and you won't be sorry. Add pulled pork also. (Chicken or steak are options as well). I got the pulled pork sandwich for my entree and it was delicious. I hate to give this place a 2 star review as it is one of my favorite restaurants that I frequent, however the past couple of times I have come here it has been a disaster. The service is terrible and they are extremely understaffed. The food is always good, but I don't think I will be coming back for a while as our lunch took an hour and 45 minutes. The bar tender tries hard, but is extremely flustered and over charged us by $22 and then continued to argue about it with us after we showed her the math over and over. Great place to eat! Prices a touch high, but compatible with Colorado cost of living. Wife had chicken sandwich and considers it one of the best she has ever eaten. I had turkey dinner and it was superb. In my experience only home cooking might have the edge. But come to think of it, I have had some home cooked turkey that would most assuredly take a back seat to this. The 911 burger also gets very high marks. Service? Well give that high marks also. TERRIBLE place. I would give ZERO stars if I could. Let me see if I can some up the horrendous experience briefly. I ordered a burger to go well done. I made sure to repeatedly state it had to be well done as I am pregnant and cannot eat undercooked meat. When I got home, the burger was RAW! Not even medium. RAW. I had to drive back to have them remake the meal. They had a burger and no fries. ?! Expecting me to eat cold fries with the second burger. I had to wait 10 minutes for them to make fries. I check the burger before leaving and it was RARE. I could see the Chef's laughing and shaking their head. Do they know what WELL DONE means?!?! I had to sit and wait for another 15 min for ANOTHER burger to be cooked. At this point OVER AN HOUR has passed since I originally placed my order, I still haven't eaten, and honestly, I don't trust eating food from here now. SUCH A JOKE!!! read more

We ordered the "shredded pork" special. We got a piece of melted cheese with one piece of deli sliced ham, tomato, and lettuce on a bun. There was no "shredded pork," and there was more vegetables on it than anything else. We asked the waitress about the meal and why it differed from the description. She spoke with the chef and responded by telling us that the proper amount of meat was on the bun. This answer had absolutly nothing to do with our question about the meal differing from the description. She proceeded to ignore our table,not even refilling our water glasses, even though there were only three other tables in use for the remaining half an hour. We had to stop her as she passed to ask her for our check. I would not recommend this resturant. read more
