A group of my colleagues and I ate at the Brick Pony in Basalt last evening. Shortly after paying the bill, I was alerted by Visa that my credit card had been used without presenting my card. I took a look on-line at my card to find a charge from the following website: Premiertaxfree.com This is not a site that I was aware of until noting this charge. The charge was for a total of $65.29 Name of our Waitress: Samantha I believe that my card was skimmed while at the Brick Pony. I find it disgusting and concerning that we have people who prey on others. Stealing identities and credit cards to gain money without working for it. I have been in Contact with Visa, they have canceled my card and will be working through the fraud process. 5 stars if nothing but for the bartender. I didn't get to try any of the food as the kitchen had just closed, but I ordered an ice cold beer. The menu looks amazing though. The bartender was friendly and gave me some great advice on parking at the resorts, which parts of the mountain to ski, and some all around great local advice. He kept my beer full and at the end even gave me an extra shot on the house (I think he may have made one too many for a group of ladies on the other end). We stopped here after hiking up to Crater Lake/Maroon Bells. Basalt is a super cute town! I ordered the nachos, and let me tell you, they make a seasoning that they sprinkle on the chips that is too die for. The waitress told us they make the mix in house. I wish I could replicate it or lived closer! Husband went with the shrimp tacos, said they were delicious. My daughter went with the chicken tenders, which were the kind that are thin cut with breading, "the best kind", according to her. Fries were also delicious. We ate outside, but the inside of the restaurant was nice. My husband saw a truck go by that had a caged black bear, apparently on its way to being relocated! Ordered the chicken tacos. Menu said 3 chicken tacos and slaw for $15. The food was quite good but when I got the bill it said $15 and then an add on of $3.00. The server had her smart phone glued to her ear and would hardly talk to me but she said the $3 up charge was for the Chicken. I asked what would be in the tacos w/o chicken and she said not much. The bartender was beyond rude. We asked if we could sit outside with our dog and were told specifically that the patio was closed at a certain time. We stood outside coordinating our plans and arranged for our friend to take the dog home before walking back inside. The bartender looked at me like, "Uh...can I help you?" I said we'd like to have some drinks inside and he said, "Well we're closed," though there were several other people drinking at the bar and it was quite early. I said, "You just said the patio was closed, but now you're closed inside as well?" He confirmed this curtly and not so much as an apology for the confusion was offered. We went around 5:00 with our girls. It was a pleasant spot with good food and drinks. Pizzas were yummy! Salads were big!

We wanted a beer and something to eat after skiing and were not disappointed. Fried pickles with ranch dressing, and more pickles than you would expect. Then on to their club sandwich served on rosemary focaccia bread, served with a large side of sweet potato fries. Best club he's ever eaten, according to my husband. And I'll have to agree. However, I'm giving them only 3 stars for the service. Even though we ordered take out, both times the server never returned with the change. After waiting for 10 minutes, I just gave up as I had 2 kids waiting. I hate places where they think it's ok to do that. This place has a nice ambiance, especially the back patio, but the food is really average. I'd give it three stars if not for what went down with dessert. You see, I'd decided to go here specifically because of the Hot Chocolate Bread Pudding with Marshmallow Ice Cream. Bread pudding is my favorite dessert in the world and theirs sounded amazing. What I received was a grave disappointment. It was not bread pudding. It was a piece of warm chocolate sheet cake with ice cream in a bowl. And the cake tasted like it was straight from a box. Needless to say, I only had a few bites before I abandoned it altogether. I wanted to punch that bowl until my fists bled. Because I care deeply about bread pudding, I wanted to defend its honor and let the restaurant know that they show probably rename that item or else get a recipe for the real stuff. I waited until after we paid our check so that the waiter wouldn't think I was trying to get it for free. I politely let him know about the problem while he just stood there looking at me with a blank expression. When I finished my brief explanation he said, "Alright," and then walked away. So, on top of the truly mediocre meal, I wasn't too pleased with our server. But, seriously, that bread pudding is a travesty. If there were a court of law that protected restaurant patrons against bogus claims of delicious bread pudding, I would have placed the entire kitchen under citizen's arrest. read more

My husband travels through the Western slope of Colorado once per month. Occasionally I tag along and each time I beg him to stop at The Brick Pony Pub for lunch. I've eaten here several times now and the experience has always been wonderful. The atmosphere is awesome. The drinks and beer selection are really good. The menu isn't the same old thing you see everywhere else. I've not yet tried a single food item that I didn't absolutely love. The service is perhaps a little slower than some other places but you're in Basalt - life moves a little more casually here. Slow down and enjoy your meal and beverage! read more

There were 5 in our group and everything we got was excellent - the mussels, wings, sandwiches and the Brick Pony burger which I had. The burger was done as ordered - it's a shame that's even worth commenting on but these days it's rare. or, well, it's frequently not, which is the problem. If you are planning to order one of the brick ponies salads ,don't unless you don't mind paying for just greens. There were three of us and we all ordered a different salad off the menu only to find out that they only put a few of the ingredients in the salad that were listed. Goat cheese on two...no goat cheese, walnuts on one, no walnuts, pumpkin seeds and cranberry on one , nope! We told our wonderful server and he said he was sorry and there was no excuse for that then told us he'd take money off our bill... he took off 20%. Not sure if their scaling down their products but paying 15.00 for what was suppose to be a salad with multi ingredients and ending up with basically just greens was a dealbreaker. This place was our absolute favorite place to dine when we visited Basalt. We recently dined there and were so disappointed. My husband ordered fish & chips. In the past it was a good portion and very delicious. This time 2 small filets with the rest if the plate covered with French fries. We asked why the portion was so small and was told they changed it and now serve by weight. Ok we'll live with it. It's still tasty, right? No it was rubbery and the coating was falling off. We just asked to have it taken away. We didn't receive an alternative solution or a visit from the manager. Absolutely nothing. I can excuse, to a certain extent, mediocre food and lackluster knowledge of the menu and beer (which is lackluster itself) from the staff, although, one lunch waitress did really try to get me the information I was interested to know. What I cannot excuse is the decibel level of the music making my party have to yell at each other to be heard over dinner the other night.
