The place deserves a 3.9, but I only gave it a 3.0 as it committed an unpardonable sin: the credit card surcharge (or as they call it here: "ADMIN FEE"). Accordingly the Merchants Payments Coalition the credit card surcharge/admin fee, has increased from 2.02% in 2010 to 2.35% in 2024. Now while I agree this seems a little high, it's not catastrophic, and I have trouble believing this 0.33% increase has directly led to this brave new world of bifurcated billing: one price for cash and second price that is somewhat more than 0.33% greater. Well it has at the The Brick Oven, as I was charged 3.75% (see photo). If your going charge me more to use my credit card, then you need inform me. And as the only thing I really demand from capitalism is transparent pricing, do owners really want to start off my dining experience with a review of how it ends? Well instead this place chose to avoid this checkered conversation by annotating the bottom of my bill accordingly. Dining here was supposed to a moment to relax with my wife and think some very Twainian thoughts, and not about conducting some financial analysis. But I guess that's the last memory the owner wants to impart. Our server (the guy who lives above the place), was excellent and I feel bad about taking the difference between 3.75% and my 2% credit card cash back out of his tip, but something must be done. Btw: Whenever I'm asked to choose between paying more or paying cash, I always have a distinct feeling it's less about saving a dollar in credit card fees and more about saving 20 dollars in taxes. read more

Oh my! Good stuff! This restaurant in downtown Hannibal is very quaint. Staff is friendly but not overbearing. We had the Italian Supreme wood fired pizza. The place was busy and it did take a little longer than I would have thought for pizza. The pizza was good, not over cooked and bursting with flavor. We also shared a piece of cheesecake drizzled with caramel sauce. Oh. yum! Everything is priced reasonably and we would definitely go back again. read more

This was a fine experience. It seemed to be a busy night as there was a bit of a wait (which I don't mind -- happy they are full!) The service was pretty good. We have a very kind and sweet server. The food was just fine. The manicotti was very good. Super cheesy and savory. The chicken parm was very bland. The chicken needed seasoning and the sauce was very watery. You will find this quaint little space in the heart of downtown Hannibal. On street parking, can be an issue during busy times. The space is small and they do accept reservations. They offer wood fired pizza, pastas, etc. Honestly I want to give this 5-Stars, because everything was delicious. However - IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES, BE WARNED, they do not disclose all ingredients on the menu so be sure to ask. I ordered a Meatball pizza - the menu says meatballs and cheese. When I received the pizza I bit into slices of onions, olives, and mushrooms - all of which were listed as ingredients on other pizzas. This was a complete turn off, I have a major aversion to olives and mushrooms, so I didn't finish my pizza. We ordered Brick Oven Bread which was super good and my husband ordered the Garlic Pizza which was also delicious. Service was good and we will def be back again, poised to ask about all ingredients, I would likely upgrade to a 5. read more

Hannibal is so lucky to have The Brick Oven. It is quaint and unique...not a chain restaurant. I see some less than 5 star reviews from people from bigger cities, but the Brick Oven offers great service, fresh food, in a cozy atmosphere...for a reasonable price. I have never had a bad meal here, the salads are fresh and the pizza is delicious. It checks all the boxes...and they give you a pizza box for leftovers :-)...that's the best kind of box! read more

I wish I could write a review about the food, but they turned us away at the door, saying the staff didn't show up, and we were only serving those who had reservations and just sat there at the last table for the evening-it was 6:30 pm on a Sunday. UNREAL! The owner said "sorry". She then told us her staff didn't show up, there were problems in the kitchen, and she had been there since 8:00am and was exhausted. I've had 5 star experiences here and I've had 3 star experiences here, so I'm going to give it a 4. The restaurant is small, but comfortable. It's classy, and a nice place to take a date. The first time I ordered a pizza there, I told my wife it was the best I've had in a long. This most recent visit, I ordered the same pizza, and it was not the same experience. I ordered the Margherita Pizza. The pizza was soggy. I only received one refill, and we waited nearly an hour to get our food after ordering. That's the 3 star experience. The bruschetta is always good! The servers, hosts, and manager are always pleasant and professional. read more

This was a good choice for dinner while visiting Hannibal. We had the risotto balls for an appetizer. They had very little taste. I had the lasagna with sausage. It was delicious. My boyfriend and I came this weekend to try something new. It is a very pretty place to look at on the inside. The service was a little slow but expected on a Sunday afternoon. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive when she wasn't busy with other tables. My boyfriend ordered the meatball sub and I ordered the Bianco pizza. When our food came out we were both a little disappointed. My boyfriend doesn't eat onions or olives and they were both on his meal which we wish they had clarified. Also it was a bit dry. We had told the waitress about the situation and took it off of our check which she didn't have to do. But my boyfriend didn't even touch his meal. Which we appreciated. My pizza was very dry. It was hard to bite into. But I still ate some of it. Next time we will try other things but the staff was very polite. read more

The meatballs were exquisite while the cannelloni was about average. Service was good with a polite server. The only issue my wife and I had was the lady/owner/hostess who was in the front of the house crunching numbers while guests passed by her table. I would suggest doing that in an office. Stopped in for diner as we were traveling through Hannibal. I ordered the Baked Ziti with red sauce and sausage with a House Salad. Salad was good with a tasty Balsamic dressing. The sauce on baked ziti was very watery, bland, and tasteless. It was basically cheese on ziti with some Sausage mixed in. Sausage had a little spice to it and was just ok. This was an accidental finding in our trip to Hannibal. We tried Romano pizza and Sicilian spaghetti. Ohh boy, the best Italian taste to my palate for the time immemorial. The pizza had freshest taste of Romano sauce, capers, asiago, and cheese. A crust and best baked. The have wood fired oven. For spaghetti, we requested sauce on the side and oh my god this is freshest hone made sauce I have ever tried in a restaurant. I can taste oven grilled tomato and fresh basil blended in that crunchy sauce that you can literally try by itself to soothe your quest for Sicilian aroma and flavor. The decoration suited Italian theme. The owner told they have been in business for 14 years now. I think they have many more to go! Overall ambience and service were great. Bathrooms could do little better! The place have little older but traditional interior. A must try and bet it might be your best Italian the US. Went there last week, we asked that the be be crispy, was brought to the table undercooked, asked that it be put back in oven. It was brought out again still not done! The menu has a variety of Italian sandwiches, entrees and pizzas giving a favorable impression of food expectations. We were there for lunch and ordered the hot ham and cheese sandwich and the meatball sandwich, both of which come with a pasta or green salad. The food was served hot, which I really appreciate. The hot ham and cheese sandwich was quite good and deserves kudos. The meatball sandwich was your average meatball sandwich with melted cheese on top. It looked great, but needed more sauce. This place lives up to the local hype. I saw some negative reviews and I cannot express how impressive the place was. Our waitress told me she wasn't willing to serve me a caprese salad because she didn't have fresh enough basil. I went with the bruschetta feta with house dressing at her recommendation and am glad that I did. I'm not usually a huge salad fan but this was the best salad I've ever had. The right combination of greens, feta and onions paired with a sweet house dressing. I honestly would go back for the salad alone. For entree I had the brick pizza. It had the perfect crust. Just crispy yet chewey with ample toppings. The ambiance is very nice and relaxed. Dinner wasn't quick, but I never felt like I was waiting. This is one place that I will return to. read more

Find this great little gem. Went on a Friday night. Best to get a reservation on weekends. But we did get in though. We loved this place. We had the bruchetta. This was good. Then we decided on pizza. Ordered small ham,mushrooms with half pepperoni. Thin crust lost of toppings. Was so worth it. We shared everything and was enough food. Also ordered cannoli. My husband didnt like it, but i couldn't get enough. Was so good. Staff was friendly. Clean and very cute place. Will go back again if we come to town. read more

First, and last time, I will patronize this establishment. Service was slow, took a long time to get food (they mixed up my wife's order, so it had to be remade: didn't take as long because they made it without the shrimp!). I ordered coffee after dinner; never came. Bartender did not know how to make my drink (I had to tell her). I had a calzone billed as "Italian", but it may as well have been called "black olive", because I feel that was a major part of the flavor. And, they added a surcharge on the bill for using a card: maybe for credit cards, but not for debit. The bill was almost $200! A bit pricey for this type of eatery. My wife guilted me into leaving a tip: I wanted to suggest that not leaving one was my "surcharge" on the evening. I will not go back. 1 and done! read more
