Very friendly and patient workers! I even bought birthday cake toppers at the bakery, will return next time I'm in town!

Decorated for Valentines Day! These calzones are *Big*! - Interior of a bakery featuring a glass display case filled with various baked goods such as pastries and bread. The bakery is decorated with Valentine's Day-themed decorations, including banners with hearts and pink-colored table coverings. There are chairs and tables in the seating area, and the background shows framed pictures on the wall and a person standing near the counter.

I literally think I am in love with this business! Is that weird? Whatever, carbs are my fav and these are delectable. Thanks to Yelp reviewers for suggesting this spot. Located in a brick strip mall, on a corner, with a few spots in front and more to the side, the business is clearly marked! We were greeted as soon as we entered. There was a constant stream of customers throughout our visit with never more than 4 or 5 inside. I believe there was a sign outside asking to limit the number of guests inside. Please do check for that. The interior is large with cases forming an 'L' shape. Plexiglass dividers have been installed atop these cases. Hand sanitizer is located by the door, masks are required for customers and staff. Our visit was late morning and there was still plenty of bread and sweets to choose from. The bread, and some of the sweets, looked 'over done', but for the bread at least, it didn't affect my enjoyment of the product one bit. We selected calzones, bread, rolls, cannoli, sfogliatelle, and tiramisu. A lot. Our helper placed it all on a tray, then boxed it up once we were finished choosing. There is a register at each end of the room so there isn't a need to congregate in line to check out. A few pre-packaged items are on shelves around the room. First, the bread. We selected the 'small' regular Italian loaf. I say 'small' in quotes because this is a large sized loaf. They offered to sliced it, which we declined. We made Italian bread to accompany our home made sauce when we arrived home. The crust on this bread is crumbly, crusty, crunchy, chewy. The interior is a feather soft loft of bread deliciousness. The contrast is delightful and I can't decide which I enjoyed more, the chewy outside or lofty, fluffy inside. They both have their merits. French toast was made next day, which was wonderful as that sturdy crust held all the egg inside making for a lovely end result. Lofty dough leaves lots of room and sturdy crust to hold it all inside resulting in 3 eggs for two slices of bread. Perfect. Since then we have cut slices for toast and sandwiches and still a bit is left. I'd buy this loaf every week. I stored the sweets in the fridge as they contain cream and found the cannoli pastry too 'soft', but that could have been because of being stored in the fridge. The cream is tasty with a good texture and gentle citrusy profile which I very much enjoyed. The chocolate drizzle on the pastry is a nice addition. The sfogliatelle is not like any I enjoyed while living in Italy, which does not diminish from it's delights. This was one of the items I though a bit over done. The shape and construction is as expected, however the 'spiky' bits that fan out from the center were too hard. The interior had a texture more like a cake style donut than a flaky pastry, but with more moisture and a citrusy pallet. I actually enjoyed this one even though it contained no cream. They do offer similar style pastry filled with two types of cream, that are possibly more like the one's I am remembering and I will have to try them to confirm. We shared the tiramisu slice with a cup of Italian moka and it was a delight. A wonderful surprise to find caramel flavor inside this very sweet treat. We both enjoyed this version fully and it was a perfect accompaniment to the strong Italian coffee. I was very much looking forward to my spinach calzone and this one did not disappoint! So much spinach! I chose the spinach, cheese and olive version, and the olives were 'just the right amount', offering up a bit with each bite and the cheese did not overwhelm the calzone. I reheated in the oven and although the interior was warm enough, the exterior was dried out. I'll ask next visit the appropriate way to heat this up. I totally intend to get another. Also, there is a definite yet subtle taste that I think is fennel(?) or is it caraway? Either way, it added a very nice layer to the calzone flavor and I heartily approve! My SO got the steak and cheese calzone and my bite was very tasty and lean with a salt & pepper seasoning. Simple and tasty. I would absolutely get this for lunch or dinner. My voice is not one that 'carries', and when there were a few of us trying to order through masks and plexiglass simultaneously, it got very loud in there! The poor woman assisting us could not hear me. I waited for the noise to calm down and tried again. I felt like I was shouting to be heard. Otherwise, all other aspects were very positive. We enjoyed every item and definitely plan to return for more! Now, I'm off to eat some Italian bread.

More pastries - The image shows a bakery display case with multiple shelves holding baked goods and desserts. The top shelf features pastries such as raspberry twist and blueberry slices. The middle shelf has apple turnovers and blueberry turnovers. The bottom shelf displays cakes, including a layered raspberry and blueberry cake, and chocolate truffles. Labels identify the items, and the case is made of glass with metal framing, with a reflection visible on the glass surface.

WOW!!!! This place is legit, so many pastry options it made my heat hurt (in a good way). I went here for my cheat meal and the value I got was awesome. I purchased 4 things: Frosted cinnamon roll, chocolate square, Russian tea cake and a piece of a coffee crumb cake. Everything came to $10.10. Each item was large and when I was handed the box, it was heavier than I thought. Now they don't have prices in front of their pastries, which I guess is the common move now, but the cinnamon roll was the first thing I asked for. Once I was told the price, ($2.25), I knew everything there would be affordable. For that size, those rolls are a minimum of $3.50 anywhere else. The quality was just as impressive. The bottom of the roll resembled a gooey sticky bun syrup and as I worked my way towards the center, it got better and better. The dough was very airy and tasty. When it comes to coffee crumb cakes, I'm very picky because they're one of my favorite desserts. The sponge, bottom layer was actually my favorite part. For the topping, I would have like more crumbly crumbles (lol), not just one big dense layer. Usually, when eating these the topping spills all over. But very good and great taste. The Russian cake was very good, which had a great soft sponge layer as well. Same with the chocolate square. This was so heavy for its size, it was super dense and not too rich. I love the top layer which had little chocolate chips hiding out right in between the layers. The cinnamon roll was my favorite. You gotta check this place out. Also, I can't wait to try Pasta Contis which is the food truck right next to Bread Boss. It's only open during certain summer months.

I have driven by so often and wanted to go in. I had heard good things but never managed to make it over. I'm glad I did! The exterior could be more appealing, but lends to that old school Italian bakery feel. Inside, there is just enough room to walk in and look at all the counters, definitely not a place to sit and stay. The selection is great. On Easter morning they had all their glass counters stuffed with sweetness of all kinds, a shelf of full fresh bread, some racks full of calzones... On a holiday meant for family members stuffing each other with food, this was commendable, especially since the the regular box store options were closed. They take cards for payment which is nice and took care of each customer quickly and with courtesy. The prices were reasonable and the taste was fantastic. So, if you're looking to grab something (or a few somethings) that's fresh, delicious, and decently priced - this is your place.

Guys seriously! Your Italian cold cut calzone was so disappointing... pastry's are great but it's not going to be the lunch spot I hoped it would be... there was less then 50 cents of cold cuts inside... and ends we're literally all dough. Do better

They are incredibly helpful and courteous. You can tell they are local business owners - because they respond as if they are working for commission. Their bread prices are really fair. They say good pizza can be eaten room temperature, so that's their deal. If you make it in time, you can catch one of their taste appealing slices of pizza. They have different kinds of breads to appeal any desire. I enjoy this spot. FYI - their Canolis are not good - stick with the bread.

But there was one spot nearby I hadn't been to since November and it was high time I went back. That place is Zesty bites. They're located on that last stretch of Smith St before you cross over in North Providence. I always manage to find street parking in the front but there's more around the corner as well. Imad was in there cranking out a HUGE catering order! There were covered pans everywhere, ready and waiting for the client to come and pick up. But that didn't stop Imad from taking a moment to shake my hand and ask how I was doing lately. I didn't want to take up much of his time as his Friday night was just kicking off but he is genuinely a warm and friendly person, you can't help but smile when he smiles. I took home a Pesty Chicken, house pesto with turkey bacon, onions and chicken, plus a hefty slice of his gorgeous baklava. After my 5 minute drive home I got to it immediately. The pesto is herbaceous, salty from the Parmesan. The turkey bacon is not what you find Butterball making but rather, this was of a much higher quality and was an actual piece of sliced meat instead of a formed amalgamation of ground turkey. All of those ingredients sang while being supported by the incredible crust. I don't quite know how to describe it. It's light, fluffy, but crispy. Crunching into the crust scratched a part of my brain I didn't know needed it until I bit into this little slice of heaven! The baklava looked as good as it tasted. Sweet, spiced, and it had this deep flavor I can't quite put my finger on but it's probably top 3 best I've ever had. If you haven't visited Imad and his shop up over on Smith Hill, then you are missing out on a unique and delicious experience. 10/10, great pizza. Great food all around, no matter what you get you'll love it!

Imad runs this small spot in Providence where incredible Lebanese food and pizza coexist. His pizza has that perfect char on the crust, brilliantly simple sauce, and genuine hospitality that feels completely natural, not performed. So when this year's competition rolled around, I came back. Twenty-four places into this month's pizza marathon, we needed to know if Zesty Bites was a one-time thing or if Imad's really doing what I thought he was doing. Turns out, he is. Of course he is. The crust still delivers. Crunchy exterior, chewy interior. Imad's dough artistry hasn't changed. His sauce is fresh and flavorful, built from simple, super fresh ingredients that deliver big taste. No tricks. High quality cheese and pepperoni blend together for a pie that just delivers a little bit of magic to your mouth. Same five tables. Same warm welcome. Imad's still treating customers like they are family who just walked in, not like he's checking boxes. After twenty-four stops this month, you start noticing which places coast and which ones stay consistent. Zesty Bites is consistent. No drop-off. No shortcuts. Just the same great pizza Imad was making a year ago. That's a lot harder than it sounds.

Flavors, on Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence is a halal restaurant that decided to enter…read morethis year's Lord of the Pies competition. That sentence tells you everything about what's happening here. This isn't a pizza place that added some fusion items. This is a halal spot doing tandoori chicken wraps and lamb keema that figured pizza might work as part of the mix. The space looks sharp. Dark ceilings. Woven pendant lights hanging at the right intervals. Plants everywhere that actually work instead of looking like an afterthought. Someone put real thought into making this place feel modern and welcoming, which matters when you're trying to pull off a menu that spans continents. Looking at what they're actually doing makes sense once you understand the concept. The chicken tikka pizza. The lamb keema pie. The spicy donner option. That's where their expertise lives. That's what they know how to cook. The margherita exists because the competition requires it, not because it's their signature move. And you can tell. What arrives looks fine enough. The cheese melted properly. Some color where it should be. But the first bite reveals a pizza still finding itself. The dough eats doughy. Not undercooked, just that texture that makes you think prefab even though it's not. It lacks character. No real chew. No complexity. Just dough being dough without much personality behind it. The cheese does its job. Good coverage. Proper melt. It's competent cheese, which counts for something. But competent cheese can't save ratios that don't make sense. Because there's barely any sauce. What little made it onto this dough doesn't contribute much. No brightness. No acidity cutting through all that cheese. No presence. You're essentially eating cheese bread, which might work as an appetizer but doesn't work as pizza. Then the garlic shows up and refuses to leave. Strong garlic flavor dominates. Not in a subtle, integrated way. Just there, overwhelming many bites, making you wonder if it's trying to compensate for the sauce that forgot to show up. Here's the thing though. Judging this margherita against what Flavors actually does feels slightly unfair. This is like asking your favorite Thai place to make you a cheeseburger. Sure, they'll try, but that's not why you go there. You go there for the pad thai that's been perfected over years. The curry they know by heart. The stuff they actually care about getting right. I'd bet money their chicken tikka pizza works better than this margherita. The lamb keema probably sings when it hits dough with their house spices and proper sauce ratios. The peri peri chicken might actually justify the fusion concept. But none of that matters in a competition that strips everything down to four ingredients and asks if you understand the fundamentals. Forty places entered Lord of the Pies this year. Most of them are pizza places through and through. Places that make margheritas every day and have the ratios memorized and know exactly how their ovens behave. Flavors is competing outside their weight class, which takes guts even if the result isn't quite there yet. The potential exists. The space works. Everyone who works here is super nice and fantastic hosts. The core menu probably delivers. But this margherita tastes like something they had to make rather than something they wanted to make, and that shows in every doughy, garlic-heavy, sauce-lacking bite. Maybe stick to what you know best. Let the pizza places fight over who makes the best margherita. Focus on doing halal fusion pizza that actually uses your strengths instead of exposing your weaknesses. Because I guarantee the lamb keema pizza has more going for it than this one does.

Anna's sits on the corner of Doyle and Camp in the east side of Providence. I remember only 15 years ago I could hear gunshots from Camp when I dated a guy who lived near the observatory. Nowadays, the only shots were the sample shots of wine we got to try from Westport Rivers Vineyard as I waited for my pizza to cook. While I loved the smaller, classic menu, I was there for one thing - the Rockefeller. The oysters are blended with kale and cream to create the sauce and they finish with with fine provolone cheese, bits of kale and parma crunch. My cashier was super friendly and before long my order was on it's way into the oven. The guys making the pies were kind enough to let me photograph them as well! As I waited, I checked out the place, it was bustling for a Thursday at 5 and although there was plenty of seating along the windows, I'm not sure about dine in tables. To be fair, it was a special event so it may have a different set up on other days. Super clean lines and a retro vibe that I liked overall. This pizza was heavenly. The oyster flavor was there, but it wasn't overwhelming. It paired well with the cream, and the kale in the sauce bubbled up like pesto. Savory, salty with big umami tastes that a RI oyster brings to the table. The crust was golden and soft, chewy without breaking your jaw. The kale garnish baked up crunchy in the high heat of the oven in contrast to the softness of the crust. Did it taste like an oyster rockefeller? Kinda but not really. However, was it a delicious pie? 100% yes. 10/10 would order again. I loved trying oysters this way, I think it was a brilliant concept even if the execution didn't pay out exactly as hoped. After the pizza my night got even better when Katie served me her Oysters Puglia - stracciatella cheese (the soft inside of burrata), trout roe and osetra caviar, a splash of sparkling wine from Westport Rivers and freshly cracked black pepper. Words cannot describe how good these were. You get the full taste of the oyster and combined with the other components, sang a symphony so fantastic I had to close my eyes to savor every moment. I only had two, but I wish I had a dozen. I feel blessed she is my friend because that means I can convince her to make these for me in the future While Katie was only there for tonight, Anna's is there year round. I'm glad I capitalized on the opportunity to go, it's about 10 minutes from my place, so you can guarantee I'll be back again soon!
