Stopped in on a Thursday around 3:30 so our table of 4 was pretty much the only one. At that time we were limited to the bar food menu only. The roasted garlic platter appetizer was brilliant and unique. All our food seemed very fresh. Great beer selection. The Brass is pretty much the only game in town, if you want to eat at a nice restaurant in Downtown Mt. P. They have a great and diverse menu - encompassing the classics as well as a few more modern dishes (modern for Mt. P anyway). The food is always excellent. They have a good wine selection too. Casual and friendly atmosphere. I'm only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because their decor always strikes me as hopelessly outdated (as in horrible 80's wallpaper and cheesy item on the walls - did I see a washboard?) -- it's the kind of "bar" homey decor that was in a loooong time ago (a la Max and Erma's of the 80s) but just seems soooooooo dated now. Disappointing. My wife and I were visiting the area and wanted to try something a little more upscale and opted for The Brass. We were immediately confused when told by the hostess that they were full but they had tables available in the bar area and dining room. We were seated right away and things seemed to be heading in the right direction. Our waitress was prompt to take our drink order and gave us appropriate time to review the menu. The crab cake appetizer was tasty and the salads arrived not long after we finished the app. Then things got hairy. Our entrees (fried walleye & med.-med. rare ribeye) were nothing that should have been too complicated. However, we waited at least 30 mins between the time our server picked up our salad plates and the delivery of our main dishes. In fact, we didn't even see our server during that wait to ask about the delay. Because of the delay, my first thought was the steak would be over cooked. It was. And beyond that it was also cold. It had obviously sat at the pass while the fish was being cooked because the walleye was perfect. The steak was re fired and came out closer to rare this time. At this point we had been there for nearly 1.5 hrs and were ready to go so I powered through it. The manager did visit our table and we shared our experience with her. We expected an explanation after she consulted with her staff but we never saw her again. The server informed us that the steak was removed from the tab so we paid our bill and were happy to get out of there. Prospective diners, I hope your experience is better than ours was. read more

I recently dined for lunch here with a group of six; because of the group size and busy activity in downtown Mt. Pleasant, I called for "call ahead" seating, and provided group size, name and time. When we arrived, the hostess had no knowledge of the call, but was still able to seat us. I also inquired which salad option would be the most filling, since I was quite hungry. Our waitress recommended the Seared Salmon Salad, and indicated that the portion was significant. I then inquired whether the "Norwegian salmon" was wild caught or farm raised. Our waitress did not know, but quite confident that it was wild caught, but did not offer to check. I found out later that it was farm raised . Strike two. When my lunch came, the salmon was a sliver in size, and I inquired the size of the portion, and it was stated, 4 ounces. Since my wife ordered the same entrée, it almost appeared as if they split a 4 ounce piece in half. I have never seen such a small serving when ordering salmon, which I order routinely. Strike three. Some in our party decided to have dessert, and so three of us ordered the appealing sounding peach pie. After ordering and waiting a bit, our waitress came back and indicated that they were out of peach pie. So I decided to order the crème brulee; after another bit of time, the waitress came back and indicated that they were also out of that. It is quite curious, and quite disappointing that she did not let us know what was available given that three of our party were already disappointed with her lack of communication regarding the peach pie. Poor, poor, poor. Needless to say, I will not be returning here. There are better choices in Mt. Pleasant to go to for an enjoyable dining experience. read more

Food is great. Good variety. House salad a favorite. 4 stars, rather than 5, because restrooms dated and BRASS on door handles need cleaning. Also, kitchen, electrical, etc., in pictures on Yelp site not very favorable. Wonder about health inspections. read more

We enjoyed the quality and presentation of our dinners and the initial service our table received. However, many of the staff soon started assembling at the bar and talking loudly, including the manager and chef. They were oblivious to their room of diners. Up for homecoming and my college kids introduced me to this place. Excellent selection of toppings and combinations. Apparently the mac and cheese dog is awesome but too much carbs for me. Initially ordered one and went back for another. The fries are very good as well. Definitely recommend. read more

Best place we ate over three days in Mount Pleasant! We went for lunch with two small children, and they had good options for kids, good prices, and good selection overall. The food was better than most places, a step above basic burgers and fries. The service was great, and we liked the ambience of the restaurant. pretty upscale place! You can fit in with dress clothes on or with jeans on. The bar is separated from the cafe part of it. My girlfriend and I decided to try something different other than Mountain Town and decided to see what other restaurants Mount Pleasant had to offer. I did call ahead seating as it was Valentine's Day weekend and I didn't want to get left in the cold. When we got there, they seated us promptly at a nice quaint table. We were met with very polite and attentive service. The waitress was quite familiar with the menu (as she should be) but she was also able to offer me a wonderful pairing of beer with my food. We started off with an appetizer of lobster risotto. It was the perfect tone to start off the meal. It was creamy, flavorful and done to perfection. For our main entree, I ordered the duck confit while my girlfriend had the panko crusted chicken breast. Both were plated very beautifully and tasted just as good. The meal was finished off with a raspberry brownie which was not too big and not too small. It was perfect for two and not too overbearing. Needless to say the Brass Cafe has provided us with a memorable and pleasurable dining experience. We definitely will be back for more. read more

This is easily the best place to eat in Mount Pleasant. The food is varied, is fairly modern (no foams), and is surprisingly inexpensive. The space is not large, however, so it really makes sense to get a reservation for a weekend night. read more

This is the best restaurant in Mt. Pleasant. If you are tired of chain restaurants (you know the ones that pretend they are not chains by being kitschy and/or looking like a "Tuscan villa") that treat you like a cow by feeding you meals that are high sodium and high fat (because they aren't skillful enough to get flavor into their food any other way), then go to the Brass. If you like those other places, you still might like the Brass, but you might not understand why it is soooo freaking delicious! It is no more expensive than other restaurants. You get a soup or salad and bread with your entree. The portion sizes are reasonable for humans so you also leave feeling satisfied...not fit to burst. read more

I think the food here is pretty good--I like Pasta nights on Wednesday, when you can build your own pasta bowl. For the most part, we've had pretty good service. The decor leaves a bit to be desired (in my opinion), but having moved here from a region where there's a lot of variety and choices for food, this makes life in Mt. Food is excellent but service is subpar. For the price I expect both food and service. I don't think 90 minutes from sit down to check is too much to ask. If you want a great meal and have time to kill it is a great place. If you want a great meal and to make tee time, go to Mountain Town Station. read more

We've only been there once, but plan on making this our new spot when in Mt. Pleasant. Everyones burgers and sandwiches were great. Good bread, fresh ingredients and well prepared. The service was good and the menu is interesting and creative. They have a veggie wrap and a bean burger, good news for vegetarians! If they were to offer gluten free bread and wrap options that'd be cutting edge, especially for the area. read more

My Fiancee and I went to the Brass for the first time ever on Valentines for a nice dinner, we were wrong. The meal was ok but nothing crazy special and the service during the meal was ok our server came to our table maybe 4 times the entire hour we were there. The real trouble came the next day when my fiancee was admitted to the hospital for food poisoning. While she was in the hospital I was also admitted for food poisoning. From there we were released that night and I contacted the restaurant to inform them about the debacle and as expected they acted "shocked" that anything bad could come from a place such as themselves. I asked to speak with management and they did not speak to me until I called a second time the next day where they said they would have to think about potentially making the situation right. As a paying customer that is absolutely bonkers to me. From there they only offered to fix the situation by giving me a gift card and as someone who had food poisoning, I would not want to eat there again. Finally, when I came back to the restaurant 4 days after the incident the owner proceeded to treat me like a kid and not a paying customer. On top of that they did not offer to comp the meal and make the situation right they just blamed anything aside from taking the responsibility that they potentially served food that caused two people to be hospitalized. The customer does not matter here in the eyes of the owner and they treated me like a child and not like someone who paid good money to eat a decent meal and ended up in the hospital because of it. read more
