I went to this shop a few years ago for a quality bra to wear for my wedding. I went back later to get a bra size bathing suit. Now I've been back a few times for my daughter and I to both get bras. The women helping me and my daughter are always so helpful. They do a measurement and bring lots of things to try. When my daughter first came she was nervous about being measured but that went away quickly. The staff helped her feel more comfortable quickly and she found two things to take with us. Recently I went back for bras for myself and they had to order a couple. When they came I went to pick them up, tried them on and the woman fitting me put darts in the bra at no additional cost. The best fitter in Wilmington. Reading some of the negative reviews--I say that those stories may be true, may be embellished or may be completely false. I always suggest that people experience for themselves because one experience for one person, may not be ideal for the other. Personally for me, I've had great experiences and send all my friends, coworkers and acquaintances to the Bra Shoppe to try it out too! I know Melissa has made my life easier when my clothes fit better and I feel better too. I'm so disappointed with my experience with this establishment. I wish I could give it zero stars. It started out so well and took a very disturbing turn. Initially, I purchased, in-store, and got great service from Susan (the owner). I happily spent nearly $300 in my first visit. My second visit, they didn't have what I wanted in stock, so they were going to order it and ship it to me. I was quoted a delivery within 2 weeks. After 3 weeks, and some change, I called in to check on my order as I had not received it. Melissa (Susan's daughter) was working that day. She was inexplicably rude to me. I was shocked. I asked where my order might be and she said, "I'll send it out today." I asked, simply if in the future it actually takes 3 weeks instead of 2 to get online orders. This set her off somehow. Some of her choice phrases included: "Jesus Christ! What do you want me to do?!" "I don't have time for you right now..." and "I'm not going to apologize to you for waiting, do you want the order or not?" This is after HANGING UP ON ME several times. I like to support local businesses. We go to a specialty shops, like this one, because we expect a certain level of service that big box stores rarely provide. Otherwise we could go online and get the products for a better price and faster delivery! This store started out wonderfully (when dealing with Susan). But when Melissa got involved, I was treated worse than I could ever imagine. Because Melissa kept hanging up on me, I called the California location to try to get ahold of Susan. I was assured she'd call me back, and she never did. I'm hugely disappointed and all-around dismayed by this entire exchange. This place is AMAZING! I was on vacation from DC and went in to find a bra to go under my wedding dress after the one I had bought prior was ruled out during a fitting. I walked in the door and Jordan greeted me and was so helpful - getting me in a fitting room and measured and into ta great bra right away! The cups were slightly large in the bra so Susan altered it for me right there on site! She was so helpful, nipping and tucking the bra until it fit perfectly! Extremely helpful when other retail stores for bras just didn't fit me correctly! Amazing knowledge, and easy fitting, great owner and staff, they also do alterations in their shop which is an ingenious concept, we are not all built the same! I am SO happy that I finally found this place. I have always struggled finding bras that fit. I've probably spent half my life wearing a bra that is uncomfortable or ill fitting just because of lack of good options. I finally had enough and made my way into the Bra Shoppe. Let me tell you, it has been life changing for me. Melissa was able to fit me, find a selection to try on, and showed me the proper way to get into a Bra (why did no one ever tell me this!?!) I just went to pick up a special order and met her mom, Susan, who was lovely. She helped me with bathing suits and now I have found bathing suits that actually fit my ladies! I've been buying my bras from the Bakersfield, CA location for 12 yrs now. ALWAYS walked out with a perfect fitting bra, which is hard to find because I wear a large cup size. ALWAYS had 5 star customer service. Until yesterday. I have gained some weight since the last time I bought a bra, and my usual didn't fit me. The lady "helping" me, didn't resize me, just brought in a few different choices. One was a wireless that was a total joke. She finally told me that I was too large for anything they had in stock. I have fluctuated between a 44G to a 46J and have NEVER been told in this shop that I was too large for anything they had in stock. I left, humiliated and in tears. I never want to go back, but they are the only shop in town that carries my sizes. Very sad to have had this experience at The Bra Shoppe! read more

I LOVE specialty bra stores because I have a very unique size (currently 30G, but I have run the gamut in sizing) and have trouble finding the correct sizing even in stores which carry DD+. These ladies were so kind and professional AND they offer tailoring services to get your best fit. That is a step above the usual excellent quality and customer service I've found at other stores. I was just in town for a visit and needed a swimsuit, but I would definitely return if I come back to the area! They made great conversation with me and my boyfriend while we browsed and I tried on. My friend had a terrible experience at The Bra Shoppe. She spent a large amount of money on bras the store was supposed to order online for her. Since the order was way past due, my friend called to check on it. The store probably forgot to place her order, which is ok it happens, but instead of apologizing for the mistake and using good customer service to remedy the issue, the clerk was extremely rude and hung up on her. To this day The Bra Shoppe still hasn't refunded her money! I've read other reviews of The Bra Shoppe and this has happened to other people. Customer service and relationships are what keeps small businesses running. I am surprised this store is still open considering the way they treat people. So, to those who might be thinking of going to The Bra Shoppe...beware. And to the owners of The Bra Shoppe, you never know who will walk into your store. My mom and I made a special trip to this shop in hope of finding bras for an upcoming wedding. We figured a specialty shop would provide a better fitting and experience than a department store - we were wrong. The staff did not have options available in our sizes, they did not listen to what we needed (requiring both of us to repeat the dress styles and bra needs multiple times), and they pushed alterations. We both left empty handed. Luckily, we went to Dillard's at Coastal Grand in Myrtle Beach and had an awesome experience with superstar Valentina. Disappointed. We drove over 2 hours to find a shop with staff who we thought knew how to fit bras. The owner tried all the (few) bras she had in my size - none fit properly but she told me her mother was onsite and could alter it. The alteration charge for tiny darts on each side was rather excessive -- for the price of the bra, this one minute of sewing should have been complimentary. Had I known that was all she was doing I could have done it myself. After wearing bra for only a few months, the band rolls and is the most uncomfortable "professionally fit" bras I've ever worn. read more

I traveled almost an hour to go get fitted for the best fitting bra, which to my surprise was a complete disappointment. The lady who helped me was delightful it was the owner who seemed to have a conflict with me. They had to order the bra in my size which they did not have in the store I had to go back almost four weeks later to pick it up. Then it didn't properly fit it was too small so they had to re-order it in a different size which did fit but the underwire was poking me which was not comfortable, when I called to ask if I could exchange it for one without underwire the owner said to bend the wire that would correct the problem. I had already made three trips and the bra was not cheap, she made me feel like because I was Hispanic that she was just not gonna spend time to make me happy so that she would rather not waste time on me. I will never go back horrible experience, I was willing to pay the price for a comfortable good fitting bra, but not put up with being treated less than a person. I rate "0". read more

I was finishing post- cancer reconstruction surgery, and Melissa was the best. She's the third generation in her family to specialize in this business, and she knows what she is doing. The staff here is very knowledeable and did an excellent job describing my fitting and how to make sure I would be wearing my bras correctly. They have high quality items. They are good at sales, so you may end up buying more than you originally planned. I did, but don't regret my purchases. They even threw in a complimentary item. Very classy.
