Rudy's - Cigar area

Rudy's

Rudy's is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It's a homey place that looks almost…read morelike a fraternity house, with a big patio, Nirvana playing in the background (literally, All Apologies was playing from a speaker somewhere when I rolled up), and this chaotic energy that I can't place. I think some of that energy starts with the sign on the door that says that you need to be prepared to show that you're 21+ in order to enter. I entered, and no one asked me whether I was over 21. Alrighty then! I visited because I wanted a bottle of wine to take back to my hotel. I read that Rudy's has wine, and they do, but it's a small wall of wine with maybe a dozen different bottles. Two of the bottles are from Oliver Winery (too sweet for me, I already know), and maybe four other bottles also looked light and sweet. I ended up finding a decent-looking Pinot Noir that was a little more than I wanted to pay initially, but once I opened it, I could see where the extra couple of bucks went. It was a good bottle of red. But, if you're looking for a variety of wines, this is not the place to visit. And if you're looking for beers, the same applies. They do have some beers in a refrigerator, but they're sparse. Mostly, though, Rudy's is a cigar bar, and everything about it screams cigars once you step inside. I know very little about cigars beyond what my dad has imparted upon me; he has taken up smokin' stogies in the past couple of years. I think he would love this place, and if you're a cigar smoker, I think you might love it, too. It's just not my vibe, but I'm glad it exists for those who it vibes with.

My nomadic spirit takes me to some cool places. I found…read moremyself at Rudy's Cigar Shop in Fort Wayne, Indiana, by recommendation of my pal. Though it's called a shop, it seemed to me to be anything but. It's a cigar house, yep, a literal house with a porch, a front yard with seating and a view of a baseball field, a member lounge complete with a full kitchen, amazing back yard seating areas culminated with an incredible two-story deck. They carry a pretty great selection of cigars and accessories, local wines and chocolates, drinks, snacks, and Rudy's merch. I'd travel back to Fort Wayne just to hang out there. The owner is originally from Michigan. The staffer who graciously served as my guide shared with me that the shop folk take a cigar train trip twice a year. I'm definitely scheduling that on my calendar for 2025. #cigars #cigarshop #fortwayne #detroitcigarsmoker #cigartravel

We stopped in on Saturday evening with another couple as a spur-of-the-moment way to wind down what…read morehad been a really nice night out. The start of the visit there was positive; the security was friendly, welcoming and set a great tone for the location. The hostess got us seated without any issues and was able to put us at a table with better ventilation. Once we were seated, the experience became more inconsistent. My boyfriend ordered a Booker's for himself and an Eagle Rare for me. While he was in the humidor, our waitress informed him they were out of the Booker's and suggested Blanton's as a similar-priced alternative, which he agreed to. Later, he tried to order another bourbon in a similar price range based on the menu, but that was also unavailable, and E.H. Taylor was suggested instead. In both cases, pricing for the substitutions was not discussed, and neither substitute was listed on the menu we were given (via QR code). Service was minimal after ordering. Our waters were not refilled, and it took multiple attempts to get the waitress's attention despite it not being very busy. We eventually had to ask the hostess for help getting the check. The total for three bourbon pours came to $141 before tip. The receipt showed $30 for Eagle Rare (listed at $22 on the menu), $35 for Blanton's, and $65 for E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof. The main concern was the lack of clear pricing or menu visibility for the substitutions at the time they were recommended. A friend at the table was told, after ordering a second bourbon on the rocks, that ice cubes are $2, which was not listed on the menu. We didn't raise concerns before paying, because we didn't want to make a scene and were hoping to just finish the last part of the evening on a positive note. After paying, our server came back to ask if everything was okay, and the concerns about pricing were briefly shared. The response was that prices are not typically discussed when suggesting alternatives so as not to be offensive. Regarding atmosphere, the space itself is visually well done, but the room was noticeably smokier than expected for a cigar lounge with air circulation. Staff also appeared to be dressed more casually than anticipated for the setting. Overall, while the venue has a strong initial impression, the lack of communication around pricing and substitutions, combined with limited service and inconsistency in execution, made this a frustrating way to end an otherwise great night.

There humidor is a great size with a display on the wall that allows you to see the humidity and temp inside. They have climate controlled humidor lockers available. Tons of accessories for all of your cigar related needs (lighters, fuel, cutters, humidors, travel cases, etc). The lounge is comfortably lit with large overstuffed leather chairs. The lounge and shop are kept very clean and the staff are very serious about Covid safety. They clean down the seats after every visitor and require masks until younsit down in the lounge just like a restaurant. The Rabbit Air Filters and exhaust system keep the lounge clear of lingering cigar smoke. They also have a well stocked bar carrying all ranges of bourbon, wine, and liquor. If you are a bourbon fan, this is the place for you! They carry a wide selection of domestic, import, and craft beers. For fans of the local favorite Bad Dads Brewery they do carry many of their beers! They also carry White Claw and make a limited selection of mixed drinks. The staff are knowledgeable and extremely friendly. They are welcoming of beginners and experienced cigar smokers. This is not just a "mens only club". On most of my visits I seen plenty of women in the lounge as well. My wife even loves visiting this shop with me. A definite must see location! If you are driving by on I-69 they are about a half mile to mile off the interstate. If you are in town for events such as Ductail or just passing by Gas City (between Fort Wayne and Muncie) drop in and check out this local gem.
