I've been coming to the Blvd for the past 5 years. It's not the fluff of weho but it's always a good time. During the pandemic shut down the owner made some cosmetic repairs. What I absolutely love about the owner Steve is he was amazingly socially responsible during COVID. He was one of the first and only places in summer 2021 to require masks and vaccination cards. He was really looking out for the community and doing his part to keep us safe. Anyone who works as hard as Steve to keep the community safe will always get my business. read more

This place is small but it packs a punch full of fun! The vibe is casual and chill and the karaoke is lit! I will say we found the drinks to be weak, unfortunately, but that was the only downside we experienced. While they don't have a parking lot, there is plenty of street parking nearby so it wasn't an issue for us. This place is pretty cool. It's a small little hole in the wall in a quiet area. I went here on a Saturday and it was karaoke night. The inside of the bar is cute and colorful and the bartender was very cute and attentive. I went in there alone and the people at the bar were very friendly. This is more of a male gay bar and not many women here. The younger men were friendly but some of the older gentleman were not so welcoming. If you are a gay woman you won't meet too many women here. Besides that, it is a cool karaoke bar and a lot of the singers that sang are super talented. I only stayed for one drink and left because it just felt like a boys club. So I was driving down Foothill the other night and I saw some lovely rainbow flags and when I looked over I noticed it was a gay bar...so of course I Was excited to try out and support a new gay bar! Of course with any business I always try to read signs before entering to see what they expect even though I always wear the mask. So naturally that's what I did there...but the only sign I saw was one that said to have your ID ready. Ok cool, I go in and it's small and cute. But this older man walks up and asks if I'm vaccinated, I politely say no. I'm expecting him to say to have my mask on unless drinking or something. But he says something to the affect of "what you choose is your business" kinda thing and told me I had to leave. Don't you ever assume someone is not vaccinated because they are anti-vax. You do not know me, you do not know why I have been unable to get the vax at this exact moment. If you are only going to allowed vaxed individuals, you should have a sign in front that says that instead of rudely assuming things. If this was handled differently I wouldn't have even reviewed until I went back to check it out, but I will definitely not go back..but everyone else, I hope you have fun! read more

This made me feel much safer with the way the world is right now. The show was entertaining and also hilarious! The crowd was smaller this night but loud and fun for everyone that sang! Went in last night- the old dude behind the bar tried to upsell us a water bottle, and my friend said "oh I just want a cup of water" and he said "we don't serve that here." So she was like "legally, you need to serve cups of water??" Anyways- he handed her a cup of water then said "f*ck you" and told us that she was a "f*cking b*tch" and that none of us could sing karaoke. I've really never seen anything like that before. I don't know how you could possibly run a business with staff like that? But when you're one of the few gay bars in town, I guess you can get away with it. I do not understand the poor reviews of this place! This week was my second time here and it was even MORE fun than last month. Let me preface this: at least once a month I have to travel to LA for work. My team and I get together, go out and have drinks, dinner, etc. Once I've had a few, I'm dying for some karaoke! As we wrapped up dinner, we started to google "karaoke near me." At which time I find The Boulevard in my roster. I give a call and ask if karaoke was going on and was told "yes, and the drag show starts @ 11." We were ON OUR WAY! Me and two of my colleagues Uber over and had an f'n BLAST. The bartender/owner is AWESOME, the bar patrons are cool, the bathrooms are clean and the dranks come cheap! With it only being my second time in LA, I was impressed to see such a familiar "bar" atmosphere. My girls and I got to sing HELLAFIED songs and the drag show was on point! Fast forward to this week: much larger group, wrapping up dinner and of COURSE we tell everyone about The Boulevard as a nightcap. About 10 of us roll up and another 10 come to join! Again. We had a F'N blast! Tons of karaoke and the drinks were flowing like water. The drag show was smaller than last month but still an awesome time! I ended up with glitter on my lips... The bartenders and owner were good to us, served drinks up quickly and had the karaoke on point! If you are lucky, the owner's dog will be there! He hangs out in front of the joint minding his own business! Frankly, gay bars are one of my girlfriends and I's favorite places to hang bc we can drink and sing and talk IN PEACE! This is a down home atmosphere somewhere in LA. I have no idea how to get around the city, but all of our roads lead to The Boulevard. Of COURSE we'll be back! read more

I know what you're thinking - why am I going to a gay bar? Well, the answer is pretty simple. It's near my home, Sat-Thursday it's the only place that is open after 10PM (that is really close at least), it's cheap, it's quiet, I won't run into anyone I don't want to run into, and - most importantly - it's friendly. Any bar I can walk into and have someone come up and buy me a beer, even after I say I'm not gay, is okay in my book. I usually wind up here after 10PM on a weekday (except Fridays) if I'm coming back from Old Town and just need that 1 more beer to call it a night. I've been known to sing (some call it yelling) a song if I've really had a lot to drink and just want to rock out in front of strangers. Luckily, they are accepting of my shenanigans and the bartender is pretty cool, as well as the owner/manager's gigantic dog who sometimes walks around looking for some attention. I LOVE the Boulevard. A lot of people don't get it. I really like going to a gay bar and I'm not gay. The thing is, I have never gone there and not had fun. As Paul M said, it is "your friendly neighborhood gay bar". Friendly, absolutely. I always make friends and feel completely welcomed. Gays are much friendlier than straight guys and much more appreciative ... unless there is a cute gay boy sitting next to you or singing, then you are on your own - at least for a few minutes :) Drinks are pretty good and not that expensive. The karaoke is great. Free (tips requested, but they won't turn you away if you don't) and highly fun and entertaining. Love that you don't have to sound great - some places are all snobby about their karaoke. The worse you sing here, the more others will sing along with you (likely to drown you out), or start dancing on the stage next to you. Birthdays are super fun there. I had my bday there last year and it was one of my favs. Small place, great to go with a couple friends to hang out and kill a few hours. read more

Hey , I love this little bar . The owner is an old school abrasive gay but he means no harm. A fun time always.... Not your West Hollywood bar...oh and come here ready to sing like it's your last damn tour. "Good luck and don't fuck it up", or, Steve will judge your ass...but hey, criticism is a good thing. 3.5 stars When my friends said meet at a bar I was bracing myself since last time it was Barney's Beanery which isn't my scene, after all I'm not a wannabe college dude nor a sports fan. "What are you gay?!" :) So odd that I find out The Blvd is a gay karaoke bar. But don't let that put you off. These folks know how to have fun even though I didn't know most of the songs that were recited. The only tunes I recognized were from Radiohead and Weather Girls. I've only been to like 3 gay bars in my life, but I can say this is the best one I have been to in my entire life (I guess that rating isn't worth much huh? )I went on a Sunday night at like 6pm (who goes to a gay bar at a Sunday night? Well I do apparently). It was pretty empty with about 6 other people, but as an introvert, it was perfect. I had some nice chats with the people there and the bartender at the time, Tom I think; is extremely nice! Sure he didn't have the drinks we wanted (no cream for a white Russian, and no blue Curacao or a blue hawaiian), but I was just happy with a shot of kaluhua. He was very sympathetic over the lack of selection, but really it wasn't an issue for me at all, I still had a wonderful time. Me and my friend were able to play pool for a bit, the room is a bit too small for pool, but who cares? It was fun, I'm very glad they had pool there because that was one of the top reasons why I would go to a bar, I guess alcohol would be last, because I just get pleasantly buzzed after one shot. Anyways Tom offered our drinks to be free since he lacked the ingredients for our drinks, but this was a far too generous offer. He even refused to swipe my friend's card and charge him! What kinda bar would offer free drinks? That was so incredibly nice. I gave Tom a $20 anyways and had a little banter with him to try and get him to accept it. Then we returned again after dinner because my friend forgot his umbrella and there was a new bartender, I didn't ask for his name but he had a cute fluffy dog! I love dogs! He also made innuendos regarding my friend's umbrella with the squishy handle. Hes hilarious! The people who run this place sure know how to make a dead Sunday night feel like a party! Practically in my backyard, but never been till a friend invited me to a Wednesday night Karaoke and Drag event. No cover! I arrived on the dot at 9:30 pm where there were only a couple of people singing. If you are big into karaoke, do check this place out. I'm not a singer, but it really is sad when you notice the DJ is singing half the songs himself and one other patron is singing another 25%. They aren't hogging the mike, it's just that few people are here/want to sing. Very relaxed karaoke environment, almost like singing in someone's living room. I didn't see any song books. You just write your name and song you want to sing on a scrap of paper and run it up to the DJ who will play songs on a first-come-first-served basis. The drag show started a little past 10:30 pm and I was blown away by the caliber of the entertainers, the hostess with the mostess Miss Conception was AMAZING! I was super impressed with the talent, costume choices and humor. Wow, totally did not expect that in a small bar like this, you don't even have to make a trek across town to go to WeHo or Hamburger Mary's. One of the other female illusionists mentioned they work in the HM in Long Beach super professional and high energy. Show up early, grab VIP front parking on the street. If you're a SGV local recommend checking The Boulevard out on karaoke night. read more

I skimmed through the Yelp reviews to see if I had been alone in my bad experience at this bar and, lo and behold, turns out the experience was not unique. I have been here several times since maybe 2014 and always had a good time. Whoever was in charge of karaoke those nights was good (younger white guy). The karaoke dj on the night I went, however, was awful. I learned from a fellow patron that he's also the owner. Not only was he allowing his friends to sing songs back-to-back (his friends were fellow older white people), but he also kept pushing my group's (younger Latin Americans) songs to the back. I initially thought it was all in my head until I realized it had been about 45 mins since I had placed my request to sing a solo song. I walked over to the booth to ask about it. The conversation went as follows: Me: Hi, I was just wondering if my song is coming up. I put it in a while ago. Owner: What's your name? (I tell him my name) Oh. Well, your group already went. Me: But I put in a solo request way before that so I just wanted to know if it was gonna be played. The owner grabbed my request slip from the top of the stack (which means he was ignoring it the whole time), lifted the stack, and placed my slip at the bottom. He then said, "Well, now you're last." So like, here's the thing. I know my review will ultimately mean nothing because the owner has his regular clientele and, based on the replies some reviews received, he's fine with people never returning to his establishment. But I'd be doing other potential customers a disservice by not sharing this experience. There was no reason for this guy to be so rude to me. I chose to say "Okay. Got it!" and walk away because I didn't want to lose my cool, but when I went to close my tab, I told the bartender helping me what had happened and I got super emotional. In all honesty, it felt discriminatory. I wasn't sure what kind of discrimination, but since I'm Latina and so were my friends, and he clearly seemed to be okay with letting his white friends sing over and over and over again, I initially felt it was racial. The bartender didn't look surprised, he apologized profusely on the owner's behalf, and a couple of other patrons walked up to me to let me know it was common knowledge that the owner is a jerk. This tells me it's a common occurrence. We bought 4 rounds of drinks while we were there, and two of us were drinking top shelf liquor. We're not cheap by any means. All we wanted to do was sing and celebrate the holidays. It's disappointing to see an owner, who should be kind and respectful to people spending money at his bar, care so little about retaining good customers. This is why the place is always so dead and places like Akbar in Silver Lake and Alibi's or the Hookup in Pomona thrive. When I looked at the reviews to see if anyone had experienced similar treatment, I noticed whoever DID get rude treatment from the owner were straight women. So maybe it wasn't racial and it was gender-based instead. My friends and I won't be returning (not that the owner cares) but I do want to give a big shoutout to the kind bartenders who made excellent drinks and certainly deserve to work at a place where they don't have to apologize for their boss' nasty attitude on a regular basis. Twas a nice run, Boulevard! EDIT: And, lo and behold, the owner replied with the same crude, rude attitude he gave me at the bar along with a long set of lies that would make Fox News look genuine. Although there are occassionally some hotties here, it's not really the place to go if you're cruising: much more of a place to hang out with a friend or two, throw back a few beers and sing some karaoke. It's funny. I read all the reviews and the only bad ones are from young women, Mayra and Molly, who went for Karaoke nights.
