The food is great and our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Once we told her our friend had a food allergy to nuts she watched to make sure he didn't get anything that he shouldn't have. She identified all the things on the menu he could eat without fear of death and made sure to keep everything we were eating with nuts in it, far from him on the table. Chicken shish came with rice, i liked the way the meat was marinated, probably the best I ever had in a turkish restaurant. The dessert we picked was some kind of pudding. It was something i never had before, but if you have a sweet tooth, its a must to try, so good, yummy. The only con, the portions were a little smaller than what I am used to in the city or Queens but on the same price. I love the place. I wanted to try a different Turkish restaurant than the one I usually frequent. I found The Bosphorus based on Yelp reviews. The restaurant was clean and spacious. They also offer outdoor seating. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered hummus, shepherds salad and a Mixed Grill Plate. I was very impressed with the plating!! The star of the meal was the hummus and shepherd salad because of the freshness. The mixed grilled plate consisted of rice, french fries, green beans, kebabs and Adana. I really wished the dish could have featured authentic sides rather than fries and green beans. The grilled meats were good but not the best I've ever had. Took their time and answered any questions we had regarding items on the menu to meet our needs. I would do it over and over again!! This place is a hidden gem So many things that I liked about it: 1- I love that is away from the traffic and away from Main st and Crooks ave. where the rest of the Mediterranean restaurants are located. 2- The food is so delicious and well made! We had Adana Kebab, Mixed Grill Platter and Borek So happy that we found this place to enjoy Turkish food in the U.S 3- Clean and nicely decorated. We shared the cheese rolled in dough (almost like a fried mozz) and the fried shrimp apps. The owner was almost insisted that we get the calamari over the shrimp but we put our foot down that we wanted the shrimp. After devoured our apps, she surprised us with the calamari and they were good!!!! The calamari was so fresh and tender. I've never had it so fresh before. I'm used to the calamari that has the texture of cut up intestines. For our entrees, I got the lamb kebab and my friend ordered the beyti kabab. Both were very good. Although, i like my kebabs grilled and over rice or pilaf. My buddy's dish had the meat wrapped in bread and with a tomato and butte sauce. The owner warned him but e plowed through with his decision. He loved every bite. This is a good place to relax and have a slow dinner. I will come back and try the turkish breakfast. Well that's not accurate... the grilled items come with a good portion, but the sides are the things that feels stingy. like rice with the Adana grill. WHY is there so little rice? this is the cheap stuff and there's barely any of it! Another example, the burger is delicious, like REALLY delicious and it's big and a great price! However, the crazy small amount of fries makes something's that's a good value, feel over-priced. I feel bad taking off a star over rice and French fries when they do so much really well. Their branzino comes in fresh from Turkey which they pick up at JFK airport. I loved their mixed cold dip appetizer. All the bowls were licked clean with our warm, crusty bread. Bosphorus salad is scrumptious! Service: Some of the best hospitality I have ever seen. Everything is done to perfection! I came for early Sat dinner (5:30pm) so I did not experience the slow service people talk of. There's a $3-5 upgrade in price compared to the Turkish restaurants in Cliffside Park but the freshness and presentation make up for it. How could it be that The Bosphorus had 5 stars based on a compilation of 27 Yelp reviews? I had to go and see for myself, and I quickly learned why. First, the service is incredibly friendly. The place is run by Turks who are clearly ecstatic to be running this business in the U.S. Second, the food is amazingly fresh and authentic. The complimentary bread with the olive oil and fresh herbs was a nice starter before the arrival of the lamb shish and the gyro platter, both of which tasted like something I would have eaten on The Bosphorus while visiting Turkey one year prior. Third, the portions are very generous. We ended up taking half the food to go and on top of that, they brought us a complimentary dessert (kazandibi), which was also oversized. Overall, the food was very rich and filling, but outstanding nevertheless. Do yourself a favor and don't forget to end the meal with a Turkish coffee. I was a little surprised the dining room wasn't busier on a Friday night, but I think this place will progressively take off once the word keeps spreading. read more

The Bosphorus is a nice local establishment that always satisfies my craving for some delicious Mediterranean food! Every time I have came here the service has been great and they have treated us with great hospitality. Once you enter this place, you visually see its simplicity and cleanliness of the ambiance. For the appetizers I have not been disappointed with any of my choices here. Of course I tried the Babaganoush which was good and the Humus is on point here as well. The fried calamari is never a choice you can be disappointed with here and the Puffed Roll Pastry is nice to have if you like feta cheese! As for the main courses, I also have no complaints as well. All the meats I have had were all prepared very well, whether it was Mixed Grill Plate (which is a generous portion of meat), Adana, Gyro, or Lamb chops! There was also a time I had the meatballs here, which is a combination of lamb and beef that tasted great. I'm very picky with my lamb in general and I am very satisfied with how the lamb is prepared here! After the meal, I always enjoy having the baklava here, paired with a nice warm cup of Turkish coffee. These days I drink my coffee black and the Turkish coffee here served that way worked for me. read more

We usually get the hummus, Shepard's salad, chicken shish-kabob and chicken Adana and have always had a wonderful dining experience at The Bosphorus. Imagine 8 "Men of a certain age" on a guys night out with a few bottles of wine and some beer. The owner handled our manly middle-aged table with aplomb as she graciously walked us through the menu with a smile on her face throughout. Now, this is not an "eat and run" kind of place. This is a full dinner experience. The owner reinforced with us throughout the night that everything is prepared fresh - "enjoy your starter courses and give me your dinner orders now for they'll take around 30 minutes or so". OK - we've got nowhere to go! Shepherd's salad, ezme and babaganoush dips, fresh sesame bread, all delicious. For dinner - my Lamb Adana was the right mix of delicious lamb flavor and spices. Accompanied with rice and bulgar, it was just the right portion. Other dishes / kabobs looked good too and friends seemed satisfied with Bosphorus. Dessert was a round of Kadefe for all - a phyllo and cheese patty served elegantly and warm. Coupled with Turkish coffee, it was a nice end to a great meal. And, yes, as other Yelpers described, the owner hugs you and gives a peck on both cheeks as you leave! How cool is that?! read more
