Book Rack is nestled right between Kokoro & Jimmy Johns! It has a decent size parking lot. Overall, it was a very cozy bookshop with an excellent range of used books! They definitely have some used books that are in pristine condition if that is your kind of thing. The Book Rack is such a well-curated used bookshop. I love all the updates and additions the new owner has made. They have a great section of recent releases and new-to-the-store books to browse as soon as you walk in. They also get in some great vintage stuff/editions with amazing covers. I have been working on supporting local businesses more and the Book Rack makes that easy. The best part is the book credit they offer - you can bring your books in and get credit which can then apply to purchases. So you get a discount on the prices. I've been going to The Book Rack for more than 10 years now. It used to be such a nice little spot: a small business with older ladies that were kind and friendly; a place you wanted to spend your afternoon looking for some books. From its starting it was owned by a Christian family or Christian group of women (not sure which). You could trade in old books for cash or store credit. Well today I stopped in with my family for the first time in a few years to find they have been under new ownership for two years and things have gone down the toilet. This was obvious by the unnecessary strand of progress pride flags displayed when we first pulled up. It also became gradually apparent as we perused and found that almost every book was the exact price or just slightly under the price of a NEW book-- In other words, The Book Rack is selling extremely overpriced used books (most with spine damage or general aging, even some rips). There used to be a wonderful section with bibles and other Christian materials that has been completely gotten rid of for a much smaller "religious" section complete with tarot card guides. All of the books we tried to sell (only for store credit now) were rejected except one...likely because they were majority Christian based despite being in great condition. The woman working the desk was not friendly, talkative, or helpful at all. She didn't make any conversation despite multiple efforts from my family to do so. Overall: overpriced, liberal based, clearly hostile towards Christianity, and unfriendly/unhelpful staff members. It's now how it used to be. If you're looking to drain your savings on used books alone and are completely secular (or even outright anti-religion) this is the shop for you! After today I will no longer be supporting The Book Rack with my business. You would be better off buying used books online (Thrift Books) or brand new books from literally anywhere else. read more

They did have what I was looking for which was a pleasant surprise. The prices were OK, two paperbacks for nine bucks. When I got home, I saw one of the books was heavily annotated which was annoying but it was also significantly cheaper than the other one, so that's probably why. I love the way they shelve books lying flat rather than standing up -- SOOOO much easier to browse this way!! I do have a huge complaint which is that the different sections are not well labeled and so I had trouble finding the books myself. In the end, the staff helped me and plucked the two books, both American literary fiction, from totally different sections of the store. This tells me they probably have some specificity in their different fiction sub-sections, which is fine, but there needs to be much better signage. I didn't find the staff to be especially friendly or welcoming. read more

Books run cheap here and the ladies at the desk are very, very welcoming. Their children's books selection are hidden in a corner, because they didn't carry too much of them. I noticed they had Dr. Seuss, Waldo, Twilight Series, and Marvel comics. Their manga books are waaayyyy below the shelves, but it's the old version of anime. Their shelves are a little mixed up, I noticed, because they didn't have much of departments for love & romance, drama, action, fiction, none- fiction.... Everything was a little bit jumbled up. They have lots of little tiny pocket books that are running uber cheap at $5 for 2 books. A bunch of birthday cards and greeting cards were spotted as well. I think I'll be back for the bargain, but the selection was very questionable because the system to finding certain genres weren't that impressive. But their prices are very promising. read more

The owner is a wonderfully friendly woman! I saw a young couple walk in with their child and dog so I inquired if I could also walk my pup around the store as well and she happily obliged. They have quite a selection, organized by genre and author name. If you're looking for a particular title they can search for it on their computers. The owner assisted me in finding one of my favorite children's stories and it just made my day! Definitely recommend stopping by to go over their collection. read more

This is a great book shop for mostly paperback books. The mystery section is amazing. Super selection and great prices. I am never disappointed and usually find more than what I came in for in the first place. What really makes this place special are the incredible employees, they are super knowledgeable and helpful. I can't tell you how many times they have helped me find a author or a certain book title. (Even when I'm sketchy on the details). They can also alert you when a book you need comes in, a really great service. I know other reviewers have said this is more of a woman's store but I feel they have a great selection of mysteries, thrillers, westerns, and Science Fiction. This is a "woman store." Women were everywhere in here. All ages, all walks of life. Sex and the City? Nah, Texts in the City. There are lots of former bestsellers, mysteries, chick lit, romance novels, etc. Not many classic or rare books that are hard to find, but still a decent selection of paperbacks. What I find humorous is that the mystery section is divided into two categories: "Mysteries by Female Authors" and "Mysteries by Male Authors." Was there really a need to differentiate between genders? It's those damn male mystery writers with their damn penises that are screwing up the mystery genre! I need a book by a broad, STAT! The staff is nice, and you can definitely tell who the regulars are. There were people calling in to request specific books, and the woman working found the book and jokingly said, "Okay, (so-and-so), see you in 20 minutes?" and giggled. Love it. How to make this store better: put a bird on it. Ok, but really: There's a cute spirit to this store that I appreciate because I'm an avid reader. It's easy going and welcoming. It's peppy and cheap - two words that I like. Like most small bookstores the selection is limited but if the price is right I'm all about it. Somehow I managed to walk out with only one book for the bargain price of $2. That's a deal I can get behind. It's not an easy store to find but if you look for the big sign on Colorado Blvd. that says KOKORO, you'll be there. It's small, it's laid back, it's a solid little place. Limited parking but I don't think that really matters in the big scheme of things. What counts is the friendly service and all the books. There's a handful of really good titles and a lot of other easy reading. Tons of mystery books and romance novels adorn the shelves so if that's your ideal, get up on it. I appreciate that there is a full shelf of classic novels and one for Shakespeare. Over all it's a cool store. read more

Pretty good selection of paperbacks but it's hit and miss like all used bookstores. They've recently simplified their trade credit, but unlike my very favorite bookstores (e.g. The Bookworm in Boulder) you can't completely offset your purchases with trade credit--you can only use up to half of your total purchase. On top of that, they have multiple categories of trade, so not all trade is created equal. They also have more books than I would like that are covered by a 'no trade' policy. This all can make for some complex arithmetic and accounting. I would be happier as a customer if my trade could go further and if a trade was a trade was a trade. After all, when I pay cash a dollar is a dollar is a dollar. Good sci-fi section though the non-fiction is pretty weak. Anyway. Worth dropping in, especially since this area is lacking in other bookstores. read more

I have taken many books here to sell back for credits but have continually come up short in finding new selections. I am not sure if its just luck of the draw in what they happen to have or what they are choosing to buy back but I cannot find books in assorted series that I'm reading and finding single novels is becoming more difficult. They have a large selection of books that range from mysterys to sci-fi to romance to nonfiction, and then some. I'm not sure how I could not have written a review for this place yet; it lends some credence to the mysterious "do people's reviews disappear at random on Yelp" conspiracy theory, but whatever. Pretty sure I've written a review for this place. My most recent visit here I was looking to backfill the last of 4 books in a series that I didn't want to pay Amazon or their ilk shipping charges for, and the predecessor to a book I got 2 years ago as a gift that was the 2nd in a series. Shopping can be hit or miss here, but I had a very fortunate shopping experience here, got 3 of the 4 books on the series I was seeking and found the 1st book in my 2nd series, and walked away with those and a King book full of short stories as well. I'm probably old to think this way, but I don't believe a new paperback should cost $8-15 - unfortunately publishing costs, texturized paper (it's not all 1 grade or hue), and just greed for profit margins have driven up the cost. If you want to read a story, why not buy a lightly used book that's in good to excellent condition and save yourself 50% or more? I'm not a technological Luddite; Kindles and the like are great tools and save a lot of space, but there's something wonderful about being able to sit down someplace cozy or in bed and read a few chapters (or half a book) before sleep or going to do something else. Everything I got was $5 and under, so I was happy to have scored so many series-filling novels. Whatever you bring in here to sell will rack you up store credit; build up some and they will deduct that from half the cost of whatever you're purchasing that day or at a future visit. They also sometimes have special events and drawings/giveaways for things there. If there's something they don't have in stock, give them the author or title name and they can pull it up on their system, tell you when it was last in their store (so you can get an idea of whether you might actually run across it at some point or not), and will flag your name to call you if and when it does come in. Book Rack is currently (early 2014) in the midst of "decluttering" their store; they are running out of room and so anything that hasn't sold in a year or 2, they are donating to other organizations -- I believe they said various area schools. That's pretty cool. The staff here is quiet, down to earth and very friendly if you approach them seeking help. Oddly, they do not carry comic graphic novels here -- I say that's odd because what they *do* have is a lot of Japanese manga on graphic novel and series form. A little quirky, but could be of use to someone interested in manga and/or anime out there. Come to think of it, I was going to give them 4 stars...but there's no reason I shouldn't give them 5 stars. They truly are a little strip mall gem if you're a bibliophile. read more

But I went in looking for a specific series and over the course of a few months they called me for every one.
