    Mables Book Corner

Mable's Book Corner is an extraordinary collection of both adult and children's books. From a former teacher's perspective there are also so many traditional teaching aids available from pre-school through high school. There are many leaning games as well, some original beloved things you may not have seen in a long time! My grandchildren are lucky enough to be taught piano each week by the owner herself. I guarantee that every trip to Mae's is the highlight of their week and will be yours as well!

I got the idea 10 years ago when I looked for a particular book but was not able to find it among the large collection of books that I have managed to store away in my library at home. I love collecting different books so you can just imagine how many books I already have then when I could not find that single book. This motivated me to open my own used bookstore so Mable's Book Corner was born and became one of the beloved bookstores Lakewood CO residents now enjoy. If you are particularly focused on developing a children's library for your kids, Mable's stands out among the used bookstores Lakewood CO has because of our collection of children's books. That is because I personally love the idea that by collecting children's books and selling them at Mable's, I am helping kids learn how to read and love it eventually. That is possibly the most fulfilling thing that came out of opening my bookstore. What makes Mable's different from the other bookstores near Lakewood CO is that we are more of a hands-on store since our books came directly from my personal library. We do not operate like a regular, big bookstore where you can buy brand new books...

We split up to…read moreexplore the small space, carefully not touching anything unless we were prepared to commit to it. An odd strategy for a bookstore, but the shopkeepers were watching like hawks. They repeatedly asked what we were looking for and at one point informed us we were in the "juvenile section," so we assured them we were just browsing and went back to quietly chatting, though minding our business under supervision. We each found puzzles we wanted, though not before being corrected that we should be shopping in the adult section, not the children's section. Apparently puzzles are classified by piece count. Who knew the same image could exist in both a child and an adult version? Silly me. While my friend checked out, I spotted a book I thought I needed for an event. I pulled out my phone to confirm the title and was immediately told "No pictures! We don't allow pictures! No phones!" My friend explained I was just looking something up. In the 30 seconds this unfolded, I'd already confirmed the title, put my phone away, apologized, and decided to buy the book because it now felt like a matter of principle. All purchases are logged by hand and totaled with a calculator (very analog, very deliberate) though payment was completed by tapping my card to their phone, which added a nice touch of technological irony. On the way out, I noticed a sign on the door: "No laptops or cell phones!" This from the same establishment using a cell phone to process payments. The overall vibe was... cagey. Even as paying customers, we were gently herded away from certain areas, with the older gentleman subtly blocking re-entry to the children's and gallery sections like a bouncer. When the woman asked if we needed a bag and we both declined she firmly said, "Oh, good." Yikes lol So yes: we left with puzzles, a book, and the distinct feeling we'd just completed a very tense escape room. I won't be back. Which is disappointing given their rather well-curated spread of wares.

I walked in and was told they dont allow browsing so I had to walk back out. Very confusing for a…read morestore that advertises as a gifts toys and book store. After reading the other reviews it seems like this is sketchy and has no business in our local community.
