Stopped in here while out with my toddler running errands. First time but will NOT be our last. It was delicious and the service was amazing. Our food came out to the table pretty quickly. The staff was so friendly and the guy at the front even brought a cookie out to the table (after asking was it okay) to my little girl. We ordered the smoked turkey platter, my goodness was that turkey tender and the flavor was great! Great BBQ spot for lunch or dinner. The bbq sauces were delicious. OH! I must shoutout the sides we ordered Mac and cheese and greens I'm pretty sure somebody's southern granny is back there making them. This place was absolutely phenomenal!!! We were on a road trip and used yelp to find a decent place to eat around us and came upon the bone! The staff was extremely friendly and it was a very nice environment. First we ordered and they gave us some cornbread as we we waited and it was probably the best cornbread I have ever had in my life moist and delicious. We split some honey bourbon smoked wings which were also insanely delicious. For dinner I got a Po boy with pulled pork and brisket on it. The sandwich was very good and the side I got was Mac n cheese and that was also probably the best I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and try this place out. The food here is outstanding, the pulled pork and cornbread were fantastic. The burgers here were also better than i had anticipated and the menu had a good variety, so always a reason to come back and try something different. We recently ordered a lot of bulk food for a backyard bbq and it was a hit all around. The staff went above and beyond to make sure our order was perfect and we were able to make some changes as our group got bigger but the staff was very courteous and understanding. My family and I always enjoy stopping by The Bone in Gainesville for BBQ. Great atmosphere, pricing is good, and food is outstanding. Always say yes to the cornbread!!! 2.5 Stars I had a full rack of ribs and two sides. The incredibly meaty ribs had a wonderful smoke ring, and a great smoked flavor but after that is where it all came apart. The ribs were under cooked as far as BBQ is concerned. They were cooked to the appropriate temperature, so you won't get sick, but they were very tough and didn't even come close to falling off the bone. The meat might as well have been super glued to the bone. They needed to stay in the heat for about another two hours to approach what I'd expect from a good rack of ribs. I also felt like they used a bit too much rub, it really overpowered the flavor of the meat. I didn't like either of their BBQ sauces that were offered, and the Sweet Whiskey (or whatever it was called) wasn't good at all. I also didn't care for their beans, as there was some flavor that overpowered everything else. I almost want to say it tasted like too much ranch seasoning. Also, the beans didn't quite seem fully cooked either. The coleslaw was fresh though. I felt as if the platter was FAR too expensive for the food provided. IIRC it was about $25 and I drank water. read more

My wife and I were out running errands on Saturday and I decided to pop in here to grab some lunch to go. They were fairly busy, most of the tables were taken but no one was in line. The restaurant is decorated nicely but, as others have noted, the floor is a bit of a mess. Considering all the teenagers they have working there who were milling around one of them should have grabbed a broom and done some sweeping... Anyway, there was no one in line so I was able to order quickly- a Georgia Chopped Pork sandwich with a side of fries. The guy at the register asked for my name and told me they would call me when my order was ready. We grabbed a table and waited. After about 10 minutes a family came in, placed their order and sat at a booth next to us. After another 5 minutes their order came to the their table. Huh? How did a family of four get their food before me? I walked up to the bar, and asked about my order. Of course it was ready, no one ever called my name. My food had probably been sitting there for close to 10 minutes... It only took us 4 minutes to get home, when I sat down I found a pile of cold, under-seasoned and old fries. The fries tasted like they had been cooked an hour or two prior and might have been sitting under a heat lamp or something. The sandwich was, surprisingly, still pretty hot. The pork had good flavor, was cooked nicely and I liked their homemade BBQ sauce. The bun was nice, but I think with the already sweet BBQ sauce a brioche bun that is a tad on the sweet side is a bit much. I'll be back, but hopefully they pay more attention to their to-go orders. read more

In town for the holidays and stopped in with my for lunch with my brothers. Sat at the bar and couldn't have asked for better service. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Was offered a sample of the IPA on tap before committing. It was great. Shared the pulled pork potato skins and had a cup of chili and a dozen smoked habanero wings myself. Everything was great. The manager kept listing food that they ran out of to the rest of the staff, sign of a quality kitchen IMO. Wish I lived in the area to come by more often. read more

I live in Hawaii, which means the form of bbq I get most is Kailua pig. Dig a pit, pig in the ground, pig comes out of ground, eat pig with island fruits. Its great, but you get tired of pig-from-the-ground. So when I came in and friends took me here for some brisket, home smoked kielbasa and not from a hole in the ground pulled pork, I almost cried. I've been here once and don't 5 star on one visit. The pulled pork sandwich and fries were very good! I tried 3 of the sauces and enjoyed. Good solid BBQ, I'll definitely go back. I saw the cornbread everyone talks about slide by a couple of times, but guess what... it doesn't come with the sandwich. Looked good though... At any rate... delicious food, good ambiance, good service by the hostess, food a little slow out of the kitchen but my fries were fresh so I guess that makes it ok. A little confusion by some other guests about taking the BBQ sauce to their table instead of using cups, but overall a good experience. I'll be back! read more

A bit of a disappointment for BBQ. I ordered the 2 meat platter, ribs and brisket with potato salad and mac's cheese ($1.50 xtra). My wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich with regular fries. You place you order, then sit in their rustic dining room, and they bring your meal to you. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Once we sat down a fresh order of cornbread with what I think was honey butter was brought to us. Then in about 5 minutes they delivered our meal. The brisket seems to have been sliced on a slicer due to uniform slice sizes verses hand carved. The brisket was dry and flavorless with a very thin bark. The platter came with 3 ribs that we also dry with a little smoke flavor. The sides we OK, potato salad was the best part of the platter. The pulled pork sandwich was flavorless almost boiled like taste, the roll was fresh, with the fries being greasy and under cooked. The house BBQ sauce was flavorful, I know because I needed it to moisten my meat. All in all, if you are craving BBQ and just willing to settle for some and your in Gainsville, try Bad to the Bone. However if you are willing to travel about another 10-15 minutes. Try Willards BBQ in Chantilly just off 66 for great BBQ. No I don't work for Willard just a regular BBQ fan and have eaten there offten. read more

We've eaten here twice. The food is average. The servings unfortunately are meager. We have gotten the three meat platter with two sides. Buns are extra. I have to say that it's disappointing to open the box and see such small portions for the amount of money you pay. We only went back here the second time because we had a gift card, otherwise I would pick something else. Would I go back? Probably, but only if somebody else was paying. Really great barbecue chicken, I got a 1/4 chicken and wish I'd got 1/2. The potato salad has great flavor and the cornbread muffins were the best I've had in a restaurant, wish I'd ordered extra of those too. The only thing I was meh about was the Mac and cheese, kinda one dimensional and probably intended to be kid-menu friendly. You'll pay more than Mission Barbecue but you'll get better food. My favorite is their chicken sandwich special - I think they have it on Thursdays - it's not even on their menu - just a chicken breast sandwich - In a yummy marinade with lettuce, tomato, cheese and guacamole - sounds simple but the flavors are amazing -so so good! I also love their honey bourbon wings - some of the best wings I have ever had. They also have yummy nachos. If you are in the mood for lots of meat and cheese get those! But their Mac and cheese is my favorite. My husband doesn't even like Mac and cheese but he loves their Mac and cheese. They also have good salads. A local BBQ gem. I'm a regular here and I have tried just about everything on their menu. There is one little problem with that. The prices are high for a BBQ joint. However they do lots of marketing and if you compare with other BBQ places in the area it is close in price so not much we can do about that. Ask about their free lunch card program to save a few bucks in the long run. Also keep an eye on their Facebook page for specials like $6 Pork Sandwich Tuesdays. The food is absolutely delicious. They have a great signature sauce and I'm a huge fan of the whiskey sauce. My favorite meal items are the Georgia pork, sausage, ribs and the mac and cheese. The Redneck Reuben is just plain awesome. They have seating outdoors which is nice and they do well with carry out. The seating inside is not the best, but as long as people aren't spending large amounts of time eating and socializing it shouldn't be an issue. Parking is plentiful and has never been an issue for me. If you like beer I recommend checking them out on Facebook as they announce events on a regular basis. We were looking forward to trying this place because another location had tempted our taste buds previously but couldn't go. We had delayed our lunch and extended our drive just to come here with high hopes, but it was a let down unfortunately. Bland throughout. Our party had the turkey, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, baked beans, Mac and cheese and a few others I don't recall. Frankly everything lacked flavor. Perhaps it wasn't fresh or this location did not adhere to the recipes but we found ourselves thinking ok maybe the ribs are their thing...ok maybe the turkey...ok maybe the pulled pork...beans...something. But nothing. The brisket was so fatty we didn't touch half of it. I just got the sense that the owners here aren't even trying. We will skip this location next time. It boggles my mind that this place isn't pulling in five stars. The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is amazing. And did I mention the food is amazing?
