Ryan was an amazing waiter; he gave me a whole quart of the drink I ordered and gave me extra fries. The bathroom had a wide stall for those in wheelchairs. I wasn't able to drink because I was driving, but the bar looked great. They ran out of brisket but I can forgive them seeing that it was Father's Day. The fries are great. I can't drive past this place without stopping. I can smell the smoked food a half mile down the road. OMG if you're in a hurry, forget it, the menu is huge and there's so many awesome choices. I tried the pulled pork tacos, they were out of this world.served with homemade salsa and fresh nacho chips, fried in house. Beef brisket has a robust smoky aroma, the meat is tender, and succulent . They also have smoked half chickens, combos with beef, brisket and pork. Sometimes on Friday or Saturday nights, they also have live bands. Clearly this place has taken a hard left since my last visit. This meal is an utter disappointment. We live 5 minutes away and yet the meat on both platters is cold. Not just warm...ice box cold. The fat on the "lean" brisket is mostly a congealed blob of unappetizing slime. I'd hate to see the fatty cut! The pulled pork was inedible. The extras we paid for missing from the bag and the kid who answered the phone's first comment was "it wasn't my order." Unbelievable! Check this hole off the list! The brisket was absolutely delicious beautiful pink smoke ring. The ribs, even though smoked were very tender and falling off the bone, the dry rub was out of this world. And Sandy, our server/bartender was beyond amazing. She had everything down to a T. She didn't rush us, but made sure we were 100% taken care of. The Texas brisket platter was disappointing, i ordered the 50/50 lean and fat. the meat was all dry and barely warm. The BBQ sauce was refrigerated and made the brisket cold when eating, other places keep the sauce at room temperature. the meat was sliced extremely thin to hide the toughness, but there was plenty of smoke, it was a waste of $23. The creamy cole slaw was very dry, not creamy at all. the fries were tasty. This is not a place i will revisit. read more

I came in to place a take out order. Seemed pretty slow inside. Was given a menu and was told to holler when I wanted to order. After looking at the menu, I waited around to place an order but was not acknowledged by the other person working there. I asked someone that I was ready to place an order to someone who was walking around. The person making drinks said she we would get to me. She proceeded to continue making her drinks and walked away from me. I eventually decided to walk out after waiting for 5 minutes. Stopped in to check out the Hog Shack recently. After looking over the menu - I decided to order something to eat in - as well as an order to go. To eat in - I ordered their version of a Turkey Pot Pie - more like an open casserole - with two biscuits sitting atop the pie. Each biscuit was topped with a cranberry-like relish. Overall, tasty, but I think the dish would be better with the cranberry relish served on the side. For my to-go order, I ordered some bulk meats, including the Half Smoke Links, the Kansas City Burnt Ends, and Brisket. Got a sweet tea for the ride home, very good and thirst quenching. How did I not know about this? I was dragging myself out to one of several local chains for not very exciting bbq when there was a great place just a couple miles away! Brisket was great, the chicken was moist and tasty! Had the potato salad, mac & cheese, collards and cornbread, and all were fantastic! Will be repeating that visit regularly! read more

This was only my 2nd visit. The first was dine in. I wanted to experience drive-thru service to give readers a complete picture. While the food was good, the Burnt Ends lacked something. I don't know if it was the container trapping in steam moisture. but they were very "wet". It seems like the cubes of brisket were doused with sauce, but not put back on the smoker. I got 1 lb. and they still tasted good although I was a little disappointed. I ordered the Natural Cut Fries and only got 4. For $4.50 they were EXPENSIVE! NOT a good deal. They were flavorful, just not enough quantity. The cornbread muffins were the star of the show. Moist (not dry and crumbly) and FRESH (like they were JUST made). All in all, my suggestion is to dine in if possible. I spent $45 for a BBQ experience. Mission BBQ would've been a better investment, but I like supporting the independent business owner that takes a chance at going toe-to-toe with the franchised operations. read more

Hmmm..., We've been back to The Hog Shack a few times, but we've pretty much removed it from our takeaway rotation. It's not that the food is bad; it's certainly palatable. It's just not very...,Barbecue. You will not find bark, smoke rings, or a hint of smoke in any of the meats you get. This 'cue does not satisfy. I went to the Aviation Fair today at the Manassas Airport. This restaurant was present with a food truck. Let's start with the good! Half smoke was superb! French Fries were golden brown and crunchy. Now the bad. The cowboy baked beans were soupy and not very well seasoned. The brisket was also soupy. Despite the appearance, the flavor was actually decent. First the good - loved the music mix. The water was fresh and ice cold. Now, the food - It's been at least ten years that I ate such bland, tasteless barbecue. The brisket was overcooked and tough. It barely tasted like cooked meat. The ribs were horrible. Some kind of crunchy rub and the meat was mush. The bones fell out of the rib when I picked it up. Potato salad with nothing but mayo. Cole slaw with nothing but mayo. And this cost over $25. Their menu is loaded with Mexican dishes. Not sure how that adds to a barbecue joint. The big draw, apparently, is their new bar. Overall I rarely if ever get BBQ out as I do a lot and I mean a lot myself but it was a time factor for the fam this day. The service inside was very nice the staff is pretty genuine and they are proud of their BBQ. Ordered an assortment Pulled pork Ribs Brisket Overall solid BBQ and the sauces are pretty decent assortment. Their house sauce is solid The Texas is a contender for best IMO but it has a bit more heat which I like but not the rest of the fam. Vinegar okay Mustard decent Alabama style sauce seems good but in general I've never understood it (it's a preference thing). Cornbread generous portion Mac and cheese is southern casserole style which I grew up on so if you are all "blue box" know that and slow your roll. Collards solid Baked beans were a hit. The coleslaw was unfortunately a hot mess. The Q - was pretty good The pork was moist The brisket was good but on the burnt ends it was more from the back of the cap and not what I call ends traditionally. The ribs while flavorful were what I'd call overcooked contrary to some popular belief ribs should not fully fall off the bone they should have a little pull when done. Overall this place is pretty good and if I need to get BBQ I'd recommend them over the bone or Mission any day of the week. read more

I'm giving 4 instead of a 5 for only one reason the cornbread didn't knock it out the park! EVERYTHING else definitely gets another visit from our family. Ribs were seasoned perfectly, dry rub can be tricky and extremely salty but these were just right and tender. Mac and cheese is also tricky and I saw prior gripes about it but what we had on Easter was phenomenal. Cowboy beans were very good flavor as well, I like my beans slightly cooked longer but they got the job done! I've been anxiously waiting for this restaurant to open because I love bbq and it's closer than the others. We decided to go through the drive though but it was closed at the time so I went inside. The inside was very clean and I was the only one in there at the time which worked for me. There was a lot of staff working and getting into their groove since they just started working. There was one person at the register. She didn't really say anything so I spoke and placed my order. The food prices were pretty high in my opinion. If I spend $25 for a meal I would assume that sides and a drink come with it but it doesn't. I still ordered extra sides and different meats and cornbread. The chefs prepared and boxed my meals and thanked me for visiting which I appreciated. Once I got home, I opened my meals and realized that my order was I correct. When I called someone was very nice and apologized and took my name down so that they can remake my incorrect meal next time. Once I finally got to taste the rest of the food I was a bit underwhelmed. The food didn't have much flavor and it didn't taste smoked. The fries however were really good anthe cornbread wasn't bad. I'm hoping that when I return for my food to be remade it will be a better experience. They are a new restaurant so I'm sure they are getting feedback and learning as they go. read more

I have been eating at Hog Shack since it opened. In the beginning the portions were very generous and everything was very tasty. I ordered from Uber tonight and the portions were significantly smaller. They used to send individual containers of sides and large portions of meats, not anymore. The cowboy beans are still tasty, but I think the potato salad recipe has changed and it tastes very bland. I was so excited when they moved in, but after today, I was left very disappointed. read more
