Been trying to go to this place three times now and I always end up there during the off season. So I was so excited to visit it when I had time friends in town. I just got the wings cause I wasn't very hungry and they were perfect. We all split the rum BUCKET and although a little over priced it did the job. I don't usually leave negative reviews, so writing this is disappointing because I've actually had a good experience here previously. I slept on it, but can't stop thinking about how much of a bummer it was so I think it's worth sharing. I rented a boat from Hayden Marina (who were absolutely amazing) to treat my staff to a day on the lake. Since we had a group of about 20 people, I called The Boathouse the day before to ask if they accepted reservations because I didn't want to unexpectedly show up with a large party. I was told they don't take reservations, but they would make a note that we were coming and do their best to prepare. We arrived around 1:45 p.m. on a busy Saturday, fully expecting there to be a wait. We were actually seated fairly quickly, which was great. After sitting for quite a while without anyone coming to our table, I went to the bar to see if I could at least order drinks. The bartender, Lucy, was incredibly kind and helpful. She explained she could only take drink orders, made our two bucket cocktails right away, and they were so yummy! After waiting quite some time without a server coming by, I checked back in with Lucy. She was kind enough to help us get three appetizers started while we continued waiting. Unfortunately, after over 1 hour at the restaurant, we had only received those appetizers and still had never been able to place our full food order. At that point, we made the difficult decision to leave and pick up food elsewhere. I had invested quite a bit into renting the boat for the day, and I didn't want to risk spending more time waiting for food. When I went to close out my tab, I told Lucy that we needed to leave because we'd already been waiting so long and wanted to get back on the water. I wasn't trying to complain, I was just explaining why we were leaving instead of ordering the rest of our meal. At that point, another staff member overheard the conversation and immediately became defensive. She interrupted, insisted there was "no way" we'd been waiting that long, rolled her eyes, repeatedly shook her head, and made me feel like I was doing something wrong simply by explaining our decision. I was honestly super caught off guard. I apologized because I was worried I had come across as rude. I explained that I understood they were busy and that my only concern was getting us back out on the lake before we lost the rest of our afternoon. Rather than trying to understand where I was coming from, she continued insisting my timeline wasn't accurate because she had delivered our appetizers and knew how long we'd been there. She explained she wanted to defend the kitchen because they weren't behind on ticket times. My concern was never the kitchen, it was that no one had come to take our order. Even after our appetizers were delivered, no one asked if we needed anything else or took our meal order. We were actively trying to get someone's attention because we were ready to order as soon as we sat down (almost 1.5 hours prior). I still left Lucy a generous tip because she was exceptional throughout the entire experience and treated us with kindness. For just three appetizers and two bucket cocktails, our bill was approx $250. Had we stayed, I was planning to pay for my entire staff's lunch, and our group likely would have spent well over $800. As someone who owns a local business and has worked in the service industry, I know busy days happen. I also know large parties can be challenging, which is exactly why I called ahead/understood we'd be better off just heading out after the apps. I couldn't believe the way she spoke to me, it was very uncomfortable for me, and everyone else around. Even if my timeline was not accurate, her reaction was very unprofessional. At the end of the day, the bartender was wonderful, and Hayden Marina was fantastic. I truly appreciate both of them. I hope this was simply an off day because I'd love to have a better experience in the future, but unfortunately this interaction left me feeling unwelcome and overshadowed what was supposed to be a special day with my staff. read more

The location is very nice right on the Hayden Lake marina, I happy to see that it opens at 11am now instead of Noon. I was unhappy that the parking lot that I've parked in before is now reserved for "tenants only" whatever that means. You now have to park across Hayden Lake Dr or elsewhere. Service was poor. We had to flag down the one server consistently. I liked the pear and beet salad, but was seriously disappointed that it was served in a small paper bowl, not a proper glass plate or bowl. Wanted to give this place another try after it being several years. We heard they were under new ownership and that there were improvements to the restaurant. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm. Hardly anyone at the restaurant with the exception of two 4 tops with patrons. Figured this is a good sign to get seated and served. Was told to seat ourselves. Found. Great table on the deck overlooking the water and Marina. And then......we wait......and wait..... and wait. We saw some friends who were at another table finishing up and headed to their boat. They stopped by to chat. After 15 minutes and not one server coming over to bring menus, water or ask for a drink order, we left. Because there is walk up service for the boaters, it is obvious that they are more concerned with that part of their business than the restaurants part. If that's the case then go just to walk up ordering and then we will know the expectations. Bummer deal because we really want to like and support this but in my opinion is poorly run. read more

THINK TWICE ABOUT TAKING YOUR GUESTS TO THE BOATHOUSE PACK SANWICHES INSTEAD I took 4 guests to the Boathouse at 11:00 today (July 8, 2024). WHAT A DISASTER! This place has really changed. We ordered some drinks first. We were use to the great Mai Tai's. They are now made with a terrible mix and just thrown into a glass with ice. No color, no pineapple - nothing. Don't order a MaiTai. We were going to order the fried pickles. They were out. They said they sold out on the 4th of July. How hard is it so send someone to Costco and buy 4 or 5 large jars of pickles, cut them into quarters and fry them so customers can get what the menu says? Shame on You. Put in the time in you want customers to come back. Don't make up excuses. Also, the french fries were 1/2 of what we got when the place opened this season. I counted 18 french fries on each order. Wow. French fries are cheap. Go back to the amount you were serving 5 weeks ago. What has happened? Is business that bad? My guests never got their meal and we were all done with ours so I went in to find out what happened. Our waitress was there and admitted she forgot to put the Order in at all for my friends. Then the Chef go involved and said he was short handed. He actually asked me if I wanted to come back and start cooking. He was angry because I was complaining. What should have happened here is that he should have said: Sorry about the Order, I will get it right out and I will throw in an extra order of fries (that probably cost all of twenty cents. Instead, he was combative and non-conciliatory. I live on the lake. Most of the customers live on the lake. This place needs help and fast. read more

We love coming over to the boathouse for stop ins and refreshing German Chocolate Cake shots throughout each summer. This has been our family tradition for over 30 years. We also always bring in each new friend or family member that has arrived at Hayden Lake to have one of our special cake shots to toast their vacation. In particular we love visiting with your great staff especially Luci and Megan each year as they are both such great bartenders as well as truly adorable and personable. So we've been coming here for about 6 years. We used to LOVE coming for a yummy meal + a beautiful view We hadn't been for at least a year, so my hubby + I went today for lunch at 12:30pm. The layout of tables has totally changed, so we chose a 4 top because we wanted to enjoy the view closest to the water + not take the 8 tops away from someone else. The table hadn't been busted yet, but we didn't mind waiting. The woman behind the bar, I'm assuming she was a manager, came out to bust the table + proceeded to berate us for sitting there before it was cleared. She had told us to sit anywhere + not given us any warning. She literally said, "don't do this again". I can't imagine EVER treating a paying customer like that. She said they also only had one waitress. Apparently because that furthered the shame of sitting there. Uh...why do you only have one waitress on staff on a Saturday?! And as it was really slow, what's the big deal of helping her out by clearing tables? **by the way, Boathouse, I overheard her saying how much she wants to leave that job to a random customer** The food was not good. It all tasted like it had been previously frozen, including the fries. It was very oily + gave me an instant stomach ache. I tasted oil for hours - like old canola oil that was weeks old. It was nasty. And it was $16 each. They gave us ketchup packets for our fries. Just thrown on top of our fries. Unhygienic + really wasteful. Just use the bottles! The weirdest thing was where to park. Where you used to be able to park in the lot is now all reserved. So I guess you have to park on the street? Knowing how the Boathouse was in the past, it was really sad to go back + see such gorgeous remodeling, but so little effort given to serve quality food with kind service. read more

An overpriced bar serving grocery store sandwiches and bagged chips. What's the point??? I'll bring my own drinks on my boat and skip your establishment. I would frequent the The beach house regularly throughout the summer to enjoy food and drinks, without a sort of quality food why would I buy your drinks? This horrible attempt to keep their bar business going and eliminating the real foods feels like a way keep their liquor license but eliminating the real food as a resultant and not just a bar. Liquor is profitable way more than food, but I can tell you this, I won't be paying for anything at your establishment again. Horrible service, horrible food, overpriced drinks... Looking at all the reviews I don't see a bright future for the boat house, and as for the owners who made the decision to go this route, you don't serve to be in business. A fantastic spot on Hayden Lake during the summer. Huge deck over looking the lake with upbeat music- always finding friends hanging out here! New menu, new chef, new management really makes a difference. We had the Boathouse burger with huckleberry bbq sauce and amazing waffle sweet potato fries. My husband had the fish and chips and the fish was fresh and hand breaded. My mom ate the shrimp tacos and the flavor was amazing! Can't wait to come back soon! read more

As lake residents we always looked forward to coming here in the summer. Reliable burgers and appetizers with fun people and boat watching are no more. Now we won't come back. Plus the bar window staff where you order were rude and it wasn't even busy. Once bustling with business on a Saturday night, now quite. 1 beer, 1 Bloody Mary, turkey sandwich and a salad = $60 Save your money and pack your own sandwiches. read more

I hadn't been to The Boathouse in a couple years and as it was an absolutely beautiful evening and I was out driving around with my son so we decided to go by and see if they might be open early (in past years the business opened up on Memorial Day). It was open so we walked up to one of the rail bar seats and sat down. We had a server get to us pretty quickly. After we took a look at the menu, I ordered Huckleberry lemonade for my son and a draft Pacifico for me. I ordered a loaded tots and a cheeseburger for my son. The tap beer was good and reasonably priced at $5 (had 2) and the loaded tots were excellent. The cheeseburger seemed to be pretty good and the steak fries would have been good if they hadn't been seasoned to the point of no return. My disabled son ate them but I couldn't eat more than a bite as they had been bathed in Lawrys. The view and atmosphere were phenomenal and reminded me of why we used to love this place so much. The service was fairly quick but not particularly attentive in that I asked for water two or three times and never got it. I ended up taking two beer glasses, swabbing them out and going up and getting self-service water from the bar. I will be back, though, as this is an epic place to have a snack or dinner and I enjoyed the experience. Prices were very reasonable and I would have paid a lot more for that view! read more

If you want to get a beer, fine, but it's not really that great of a view even though it's basically on the water. You're just watching the busy port, which maybe okay for you, and I just liked being outside Whatever you do DO NOT order any food. Ridiculous overpriced food that is horrible to begin with. People that work there hate their job and take it out on the customers. I lived in Hayden Lake so it was close by, but I still only went their twice, just to have a couple beers on a nice day....but I couldn't get myself to go back ever. Go to "The Porch" which is about a mile away and one the golf course...that place is THE BEST! read more

We came here to relax with a drink and dessert while admiring the beautiful lake. The restaurant sits at the boat slips/dock so the view is mostly of boats. Sitting outside on the patio was still nice. Our service was fantastic from the time we were greeted by the hostesses upon arriving , our server and a smile and greet goodbye. So why the 3 stars? The beer selection was not impressive but we liked what we ordered. Again, we did not eat here as we had just eaten but rather for dessert only. This review is for their dessert options which they had only 5 options. Their price was $10 for huckleberry cheesecake, $10 for the chocolate peanut butter cake and $10 for the 3 layer carrot cake. Their $5 option was ice cream sandwich and a double scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream. The chocolate peanut butter cake was well worth the price. The cheesecake was okay. The huckleberry sauce was delicious but I've had plenty of cheesecakes for $10 that was worth going back, this, at that price was not enough to bring me back. As for the chocolate ice cream. It claims it is a double scoop but they are very small scoops. 4 of us at the table tried it but only 1 person actually liked it. As for me it sort of tasted like a buffet ice cream. Not really chocolaty like a rich, creamy ice cream but one without much flavor. Again, this is just for dessert. With that said, not sure if we would come back for dinner. It was a little out of the way to get here with the thought of sitting with a beautiful view of the lake being disappointing. I guess we will decide next time we visit. read more

Great location. Right on the water. Absolutely beautiful. Decent menu and great drink options. The caprese was amazing with different color heirloom tomatoes. Everyone in my party seemed to like what they got - spinach salad, flat bread. But I ordered the fish tacos, which were recommended and it didn't indicate fried so I assumed it was grilled. It came and was breaded and fried. I told them I can't have gluten and they said they could bring shrimp tacos instead. I said that would be great and I apologized because I didn't ask if they were fried. But then 20 mins went by and everyone was done eating and I still had no food. My toddler was so antsy and we needed to leave for nap time. So everyone was packed up to go and we asked for the check and said to bring out the tacos to go. The waitress apologized and said they still weren't done. We paid the bill and still waited.. finally came and we left. Got home and the shrimp was breaded with something as well! Seemed to be less so I had a few bites. They were fine, just disappointed. Oh well. Will try something different next time. read more

Not what it used to be! We always made it a point to bring guests to The Boathouse and often met friends and neighbors there. No longer. No kitchen food, pretty much only cold box lunches. In years past, it was a little difficult to get a spot at the dock for your boat when having lunch there. Now, since they moved the gas pumps and put in more rental slips, it's next to impossible. Food trucks sometimes, really !!! So sad, they took a good thing and made some very unpopular changes, lost most repeat customers. read more

The Boathouse has just reopened for the 2023 season with a new menu. We went the first day of the soft opening (the grand opening is May 17). We really enjoyed their bloody Mary's, and the fish and chips were good! The ambiance was lovely; we had perfect weather for outdoor eating, and the view of the lake was relaxing. The service was friendly. We plan to return for the official grand opening, and we may update this review. We are very happy they have decided to reopen with a real restaurant! read more

I've lived here 25 years and this is the first time I've enjoyed this restaurant in a little nook on Hayden Lake. First of all the staff were all very friendly and accommodating. While we waited for a table to be cleaned we went to the bar and ordered margaritas from Tera. They were absolutely delicious! Had I known they were $12 I wouldn't have ordered a few, so I was pretty surprised when the check arrived. (Usually $8 or $9 dollars for a margarita is customary but $12!!!!). All I can say is thankfully, they were delicious. Tera came out and took our order, she knew the menu and recommended the shrimp tacos and fries, which we ordered and they were also delicious. We also shared a shroom burger, which was great as well. I don't usually do desserts but we did order the huckleberry cheesecake, which was ok. Nothing too special, so I recommend just skipping it there. I do think the prices are a little too high but all in all we had a great evening and will come back again. read more
