We are from out of town, and the place was recommended to us by the owner of the cabin we rented, and they said the fried chicken was pretty good.
Short version: bad food, worse service, and overcharged us
Here's the long version:
We came in and there was a sign that said to seat yourself, and even though there was a lady at the hostess table, nobody said hello.
The waitress took at least 5 minutes before she came over and asked us what we wanted to drink. Mindy (I'm guessing based on the receipt, but she never actually introduced herself) brought us our drinks, and the sweet tea was old and practically syrup with how much sugar was in it.
After about two minutes, she came back and asked if we knew what we want. We had barely looked at the menu, and before my partner could ask about the specials, she told us, with an attitude, "I'm going to give y'all some more time." It wasn't what she said, but how she said it. She hadn't asked if we were even ready to order. She was cold and rude and this attitude carried through the rest of the meal.
When she brought the neighboring tables their food, there was a bowl of mac'n'cheese that nobody had ordered, which I'm fairly certain is the same bowl I was eventually served. We will get back to that.
After 10 minutes, she came back and asked if we were ready.
She took our orders. My partner ordered a chicken po'boy ($8.99) and I had the fried tomato po'boy ($10.50), with a side of mac'n'cheese and an order of hush puppies as an appetizer. I had asked for ranch on my sandwich, and she offered to have the ranch on the side, which was perfect for me.
The hushpuppies came out and were delicious and probably the highlight of my meal.
When our food arrived, there was no ranch on the sandwich or on the side. My partner and I doodled on the butcher paper for a few minutes waiting for her to come check on us. She never did. After about 10 minutes, I approached the bar and asked for the ranch, which she promptly went to retrieve. (I would like to add that when I approached her at the bar, her patron there was graced with a smile and a pleasant demeanor that was never within 10 feet of our table.) On her way back to me, however, she stopped to drop a handful of something onto the plate of another coworker eating near the bar.
I thanked her for the ranch and returned to my table. When I poured the ranch and bit into the sandwich, I realized there was no bacon on the sandwich. Just to be sure I had not missed it, I asked my partner to grab a menu so I could make sure that the sandwich was supposed to have bacon on it. It is. My partner took the sandwich up to the lady at the hostess station nearby, and she didn't seem to recognize what kind of sandwich it was (there is only one sandwich that comes with fried green tomatoes on it).
They took the sandwich to the back, and I ate my side of mac'n'cheese. The mac'n'cheese was cold and the noodles were starting to harden the way macaroni does when it has been left out too long.
My partner had long since finished his food by the time my sandwich was brought back out. They did not remake the sandwich. They brought the same sandwich, which had now been sitting out for about 25 minutes, and it was absolutely heaped with overcooked bacon. I did not ask for extra bacon or an obscene amount of bacon. I just wanted the bacon that came on the sandwich according to the menu. The bread was dry and stale, the fried green tomatoes were soggy by this point and, the entire sandwich was disgusting, I stomached most of the soggy mess, and my partner finished it. By this point, I was fuming, and when the waitress finally came over to see about refills and to bring us our check, I was irate. I asked my partner to please look over the bill before we left.
On our bill, we had my tea, the hushpuppies and mac'n'cheese, my partner's po'boy, and a shrimp po'boy ($11.95). *I did not order shrimp, that is not the same price
While running his card (he insisted it would cause less problems to just pay the overcharge and get the hell out of there), our waitress was very audibly discussing the problems she is having with her teenager. I am not sure if she was discussing it with other members of the wait staff or with a patron, but if your teen is having attitude problems, maybe you should start by looking at your own.
She had the audacity to overcharge us on a sandwich that I did not even enjoy eating. It was soggy and mediocre at best, paired with some of the worst service I have ever had. I ate stale and old food. She did not offer to do anything to improve upon the experience. While I realize that asking for ranch may have been complicated, it does not mean I wanted to change the actual toppings. Then to have half a pig's ass worth of burnt bacon piled up on a stale and cold sandwich 30 minutes after it first came out, then to be overcharged for sitting there waiting? We will never go back and we will steer everyone away from this place. read more
