This place... I absolutely loved this place! We came for dinner on a somewhat busy night and they were able to seat us immediately. We were served cornbread and toast as we sat down. My wife ordered grilled trout and I ordered the catch of the day: rockfish. Our orders didn't take long to come out and when they came, oh boy! My rockfish was probably some of the most delicious fish I've ever Had! My wife enjoyed her trout, but again let's talk about how good the rockfish was and how you should order it if it comes back! Service was great. Typical of higher end restaurants. The view was beautiful. Had it been a little warmer outside, we probably would have sat outside if we could have. There's also a pier that would look great in selfies. We kind of had a little bit of a hard time finding the place because it was tucked away in the right far side of the shopping center. Easily my favorite dining experience in the Outer Banks. I look forward to eating here every year during our annual OBX trip. The scenery, the food, the drinks...everything is phenomenal. I recommend getting here an hour or so before your reservation (definitely call ahead for a reservation) to enjoy the outdoor bar and seating area. They've got seating under large canopies that provide ample shade and there is plenty of outdoor seating around the bar. The outdoor area overlooks the Currituck sound and if you're lucky enough you can watch the sunset while having a drink. The cocktails are fantastic. I recommend the John Daly, sweat tea vodka and lemonade, and the Cucumber Rickey, Gin, lime juice, cucumber and soda. The food is delicious. I got the jumbo lump crab cake which came with couscous, pickled cucumbers and watercress sauce. I've had a lot of crabcakes in my ~15 years of coming to the OBX. I think this one takes the cake (no pun intended). Minimal filler, big chunks of crab. Delicious sauce. It checks all the boxes. The shrimp and clam pan roast was also really tasty. The roasted fennel and sausage were nice touches. My only gripe was that the serving sizes for the seafood dishes were a bit small. We finished our meal with a few deserts: the key lime pie and a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream. The key lime pie had a rich graham cracker crust and the pie was light and creamy. The mint chocolate chip was delicious, you could taste the real mint. Unlike any other mint chocolate chip ice cream I've ever tasted. I've never had a bad experience at The Blue Point. The service, food, drinks and atmosphere are all top notch. There's a reason why we make it a priority to grab a reservation here every year during our annual OBX trip. Awful! I made a reservation three weeks ago with a very agitated attendant. When we arrived we sat at a table that dripped condensation on us throughout our meal. After informing the manager about our experience she victim blamed and knew all along the table had this problem! I think we were deliberately placed at the table. It was terrible! The food didn't pair well with the sides - the flavor was bland. Save your $ and head over to STEAMERS!! Trust me you don't need this mediocrity...You'll thank me! read more

Very good restaurant serving fresh seafood and American fare with an excellent view of the bay and very good service. The food and drinks are always tasty and their back bar on the bay is a great spot to watch the sunset. It is located right on the bay and off of the Duck boardwalk so there is easy access no matter where you are coming from. read more

We are visiting for a few days and wanted to make dinner reservations ahead for several nights. It is April, so still rather early in the year. Quite a few restaurants are not open on Mon-Tues. We had eaten at Blue Point a number of years ago and remembered having a nice meal here. Ask for a window table and try to come at sunset. The sunsets over the Sound are lovely. Our reservation was for 7:30 but we arrived early, so they sent us out to the Back Bar to wait. It has Adirondack chairs outside and tables (with heaters) inside, with great views. Our table in the dining room was ready on time. My husband had the soup special, which he said was just OK (potato with onion and smoked salmon). I had the hearts of Romaine and kale salad, which was tasty. We both had the Pamlico shrimp and Littleneck clam dish for dinner. It comes with some sliced sausage, stewed tomatoes, and fennel, over a risotto cake. It was quite tasty. There is a $3 charge for bread (cornbread and another type). We had a rather long lull between our appetizer and main courses. The noise level increased as the evening went on, but people were enjoying dinner and having a good time. read more

A couple of good things and a couple of bad things but generally highly overrated. To start with, we had the earliest reservation at 5pm opening. Since everyone told me I must get a booth, I had asked when I phoned in my reservation. Though nothing was promised, I was told that since we had the earliest possible reservation we would very likely get a booth. As we were being seated, not in a booth, I saw at least 2 4-top booths and 1 2-top booth. I inquired about the booth but got a hard no. That was bad. Our waitress was good and so was the peach salad. Bad was the flavorless corn bread, other bread, and butter. Also bad was the wait time for our mains. The fish of the day, trout, was good and the accompanying vegetables were ok. The gnocchi looked and tasted like it was made of cornmeal instead of potato. As I said, it is overrated and overly expensive. And what is with the fake candles on the table? With all the good dining options on the OBX I'd go elsewhere. read more

Had a wonderful dinner with my husband at The Blue Point last evening. The view of the sound from our table was beautiful. The food was wonderful! We both started with the She Crab Soup, which was perfectly seasoned and full of crab! My husband had the tenderloin which he said was perfectly cooked and very tender. I had the Sauté of Jumbo Lump Crab and House-Smoked Salmon entree, served over an herb-onion spoon bread with Old Bay Butter Sauce, which was so delicious and a special treat. For dessert I had the house-made ice cream and an Irish Coffee, the perfect finish to a perfect meal. The service was excellent. The Blue Point never disappoints! read more

Service was amazing. I'm a pescatarian and only eat fish. Not a ton of options for me since all the fish dishes have meat in them. My sons catfish was amazing as I tried that. the rice and beans had alligator. I ended up ordering a Caesar salad and it was overdressed and half wilted. No croutons because their croutons were toasted in bacon fat. They loved their steaks. No bread basket either which I always enjoy. read more

Wow! What a chage. Made a reservation for two, noticed and was OK with it being at the bar for 5:45. Got there at 5: 40 and was shown our seats and asked if they were OK. I said yes. Ordered drinks and an app. Then two people were seated one seat to our left. We were then asked to move, because we were seated at the wrong seats. There are four people seated at a bar with 17 seats, and they want us to move, while we are eating, because we were the first ones seated, and they put us in the wrong seats. Asked to speak with the manager and both ladies at the desk said they were both managers. We ask why we were moving, when we were there first, and had food, while the people seated after us with one seat in between us had nothing. They both insisted that we were placed in the wrong seats. The restaurant is basically empty. Plenty of tables and booths with No one in them. Maybe a staff shortage. We paid our tab, $55.00 for a bowl of soup and two drinks, and took our dinner dollars down the road. By far, one of the most bizarre restaurant experiences, ever! Won't be back, ever! All I can say is WOW! It's the off season! Wow! Good luck staying in business. read more

We visited OBX recently for our yearly anniversary trip. This year we were only able to get away a couple days instead of getting a full week rental, so we had to forage for food instead of cooking for the week. Not that I mind that - excuses to try all kinds of hip foodie places! And this place fits the bill - Blue Point gives off a trendy, upscale kind of vibe without being snooty/exclusive if that makes sense. Although we were traveling sans kiddo, I got the impression that if we'd had him, it would have been fine and we still would have gotten excellent meals/service. They have a decent wine list for the size of the venue, so I ordered the rose they offered by the glass - it was quite tasty, fresh with strawberries. For dinner, I ordered the house made gnocchi with duck. I live and die by gnocchi, and I never get to eat duck, so that was part of why I chose this place to try. Delightful! The whole dish was excellent and there wasn't anything left after I attacked it and partner came in for clean up - the only thing I didn't care for was the addition of the peas. I didn't think they added much to the dish, but maybe that's just me not being much of a pea fan. Service was efficient, if a little on the slow side (they were pretty busy that evening), and the tab will run you easily $30+ per person if you do a full drinks, dinner, dessert kind of thing. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and had a nice time - we'd visit here again when we're back in the area. read more

Whenever we are in Duck, we will definitely dine at this restaurant. Food is good, service is great and the ambience is good.

Not gay friendly as indicated. We were treated differently and placed in the worst seats at the bar. Service was terrible and we started to notice we hadn't been checked on in a while. Other couples (not same sex couples) got their food and came and went before we got served. We ended up leaving after not receiving our food after an hour of waiting (at the bar) and shared our experience with the manager and bartender. Neither were bothered or apologized, just got defensive. It's a shame because the food looked really good! It's 2024 and just really disappointing to see businesses still operate and agree with this behavior. read more

Our fourth visit here and it always excels. Tasty and unique drink list. I had the sushi grade tuna entree and it was perfect. Two large pieces of tuna that had barely been exposed to the fire. Yum. My wife had the seared scallops and they were also delicious. Our waiter was very helpful and gave great descriptions of the specials. The Blue Point has been our favorite restaurant in Duck for literally decades. The food is always outstanding, sometimes creative, but always delicious. We grouse sometimes because the menu rarely changes, but the terrific specials give more great options. Our entire table had the special flounder offering off the menu except one of us who just can't resist the tender and tasty pork chop. The flounder was prepared with veggies and a specialty light sauce. So so good. And not to forget our courteous and efficient server who knew just the right time to check in on us. You'll never go wrong here, but make your reservations early. read more

One of the best meals I had while visiting the Outer Banks. Set at the end of a boardwalk on the Sound side of the island so you can watch the sunset. And we had quite a sunset that night. I started out with the she crab soup. Loaded with crab, this soup packs a punch. Of layers of flavor. Dense, rich, slightly spicy with no flour taste it tastes expertly made with richness as the best descriptor. I was tired of eating so much seafood at this point so I went with the grilled pork chop. Served over homemade barbecue sauce, cole slaw and Mac and Cheese. The pork chop had a wonderful smoky taste. The exterior was char grilled with a perfect amount of seasoning. Inside was tender and juicy. The sauce was a bit thin, but was sweet and tangy at the same time. It worked really well. The slaw had smoked nuts that gave a really nice counterpoint to the creamy richness and crunch of the cabbage. The Mac and Cheese had a crusty exterior with a tender mix of noodles inside. Clearly homemade. Service was outstanding. Food outstanding. In a beautiful setting. I highly recommend. read more

A beautiful atmosphere with a killer location. We always enjoy stopping by The Blue Point for evening libations while watching the sunset. The view and the location behind on the Duck Boardwalk can't be beat, and they have an impressive beverage menu with something to please everyone regardless of the season or weather. Everything about this place is exceptional! We went for my husbands birthday and for starters the sunset view while we waited for our reservation was outstanding! They had his favorite IPA on draft from Asheville that we can only ever get there - so many bonus points! We ordered the hoisin ribs small plate but nothing about it was small and so tasty with with the kimchee veggies! Salad was refreshing. Shrimp and grits were some of the best my husband has ever had! And I got the smoked salmon & lump crab entree it was so meaty and fresh! We took home the leftover and used for an omelette that was just as good reheated! The host (which turned out to be the manager) was so kind and knowing it was our first visit came to make sure everything was perfect! We can't wait to come back! read more

Serving size , serving size , serving size.. I live in Duck and come to TBP once every quarter or so and while the food is amazing, the serving sizes for the prices are ridiculously small. The exception being the ramen noodles and a few apps. It's unfortunate because I'd come back more often as I live directly across the street. Has the duck breast this evening and there were two small slices the size of small sausages. I will regretfully have to take TBP out of my Duck restaurant rotation. It's lost some of the magic. My husband and I have one date night a year. 2020 and 2021 we went to Blue Point for the outdoor dining and ambience. This year we expected the same but the service was not up to par. We ate at a table at the the bar and the ambience was off. I did not like the music but hey, that's a personal choice but no fault there. My husband did not understand plastic water glasses but that did not bother me. When we pay for upscale dining and order a bottle of wine, we expect at a minimum our water and wine glasses refilled. The server did neither. It was the end of service and though we got one of the last reservations it was not that busy - my husband saw her chatting with a non customer a lot. The appetizers were good. We got a chilled soup and a bisque I got the special - it was described as fresh tuna over roasted vegetables with pesto and spinach. When I got it everything was room temperature. I got the tuna rare for the contrast in temperature but it was all the same. My husband got the filet and his veggies were not hot. It was like our meals had been sitting under the warmer. I asked the server and she said the chef intended the food to be lukewarm because the special was a salad. It had raw spinach so maybe? She offered to warm up the veggies if I wanted so she took them back and brought back the same tuna and the spinach was now soggy. It tasted good and I ate it but I could have paid less for a seared tuna sandwich at Crave or Sugar Shack and enjoyed the protein more. Dessert was pecan pie and that was good. We made the best of it. We are not high maintenance and understand restaurants still have issues but this one has been and is currently booked every night so does not get a pass for providing subpar service. read more

Annual visit for dinner, this time 9 of us. There's only one area in the restaurant for parties this large; we sat next to another. Sorry to the others Monday night for the noise. BP food never disappoints; this visit was no exception. The menu has been reduced (bummer) and changed slightly which is good; some mainstays like the Crab Cake is still there and still awesome. Wish there was more than one special (Tuna Special was good; I wish some other than lentils). You must go early and have a drink out back; some of the best sunsets around. Prices have gone up slightly and it's never, ever an inexpensive night so know this going in. But you'll be treated really well (Maggie was our server and she was awesome; patient, always with a smile, and able to handle our party of 9) and have a great meal. We visit every year. Resys 30 days out but things do open up as ppl cxl so keep looking. A main stay and must visit if near Duck. read more
