This is the last time, unless a change is made that I'll suggest eating there again. Just a woeful experience. Not blaming staff, poor girl was the only person staffed on to a full restaurant. My guest was too polite, I would have walked out. I chose to write this review as this has been my local for the last 2.5 years and sadly have watched the demise of any service. A few of my friends now actually refuse to attend due to the last time being asked to move from the only table (in the bar area), without a Reserved notice, to be told we could stand at the bar!

The food was excellent. a good number of choices for a set menu (6 entrees, 7 mains and 3 desserts). I had the Lamb back strap for entree, which was cooked to perfection. The Fillet steak with roasted Shallot's, potato and red wine jus was to die for! I prefer my meat to be well done (the foe of every chef) and therefore didn't expect the perfectly cooked (for me) piece of fillet steak that arrived. though well cooked it was still very juicy and tender. I had the pudding for dessert, which was lovely but the other choices looked divine I'll definitely go back

The crowd is super…read morelocal and often the place is quiet but they are now putting on jazz mid-week to add some pizazz to the venue. An ever changing and simple wine list of SA wines by the glass and bottle as well as a few ciders and beers to boot complement the gourmet tapas style menu on offer. I love sharing food and so this place suited me perfectly however my partner was hoping we would go out for the "main meal" after dining here! Every dish was incredibly well flavoured and spiced as well as being rich enough to be filling. It wasn't the healthiest meal but every we tried couldn't be faulted. From the thai chicken balls with a caramelly soy sauce to waygu meat balls, fennel and orange soaked olives (my fav) and the fried haloumi it all worked well with each other and what we were drinking. This venue is also deceivingly larger than you would expect as you walk up to the counter (in a room behind the front bar and dining area) and can explore a larger carpeted dining and entertaining area as well as seating out the side of the house. It has been furnished very classically with old wooden chairs and tables but given a modern twist with the quirky addition of wine glass chandeliers and a mirrored room indoors. So if you're looking for a pre-dinner or late evening snack over some unusual local wine and tasty tapas, this place is worth bookmarking.

Last night we got an off the cuff invite for drinks at 16:30 and to hear a band The Prospectors. Arriving late (that's our style) we missed the first set so sat out the back with a glass of bubbly and had a chat. There are a variety of rooms from the main with couches, large and small tables and bar stools, to small quiet intimate side rooms that can be used for groups. The wine is varied, many by the glass at fair prices and the staff are well versed in wine so are able to find something you'll like. The food is so very tasty. Mustard cheese bread, arancini balls, crushed potatoes and a three cheese plate. Ordered just at the end of the bands second set we were up on the dance floor. Tradition states with The Prospectors, that one of their last songs of an evening is 'dancing on the streets' in which you go and do just what the song says. A final note on the first Wednesday of the month they do a wine food pairing night with a local wine producer. It is a very popular event often being booked out weeks if not months in advance (we booked the last seat for the December event, 2 months in the future from time of posting) So expect an update in a few months.

It really tested me as I was sat with a couple of executives and I had to be polite and eat things I wouldn't have ever eaten before and I'm glad I did as I really enjoyed it all! Even the weird bits!! We had a natural oyster to start with which had an amazing lime mousse. It was delicious. I had kangaroo tartare which was lovely, but I'm just not a fan of uncooked meat - the texture just doesn't do it for me. For the second course I had mullet, followed by beef cheeks and banana cake for desert. The Henschke wines were incredible and the food was presentable and perfectly executed. I would definitely recommend matching the wines to your food. It really made the experience for me! I thoroughly enjoyed it... I don't get to fine dine often but this was definitely a good experience.

The wine, Henschke, fabulous! The food? worst ever. Be a vegetarian or meat eater, neither options were inspired or tasty. Each course was more insulting than the previous, as you were presented with something that resembled a miniature succulent plant, that a hipster had potted up for his organic cafe, or rather a prize winning botanic display. Raising the question at each course, "Can I eat this part?" The creativity was high, but felt experimental. At such a rhapsodical price range you expected the experience to be visually impressive and physically satisfying. Which it was not. The meal was likened to the notion, "Would I rather be eating Chinese takeaway right now". Unfortunately for 'Hill of Grace' that answer was 'yes'.

You can indeed drink it right there and then if you like, as they have a section set up for spending an hour or two over a bottle of flight of vino. The staff are happy to make suggestions and nerd out a little about the wine as you make your selection. I paid a visit to get a case of some interesting local SA wine from smaller producers who don't have cellar doors, and most of which I find difficult to get my hands on in my home town of Melbourne. Natural wine is so hot right now and there's a huge variety here to please lovers of funk and experimentation. There's a really good selection of European wines and I was pleased to see a fun selection of both local and international options in large format. Yay! Magnums! Buying a case? You'll get 10% off and you'll get free shipping if you spend more than $240 in one transaction - how awesome is that!? Pretty awesome.

Giallo, you had me at writing "please consider sharing all dishes from entree to main," on your…read moremenu. For someone like me who gets serious food envy, this place is the place to take any friend, lover or family member who selfishly only ever wants to keep their dish to themselves. Why? Because you can say "well the menu recommends we share..." Giallo Wine Bar has recently been taken over by new management, who also owns Greenway Gallery next door. The setting is intimate and small and the outdoor area would be beautiful in summer. I'm not so sure about the random art pieces in glass cabinets around the restaurant but never mind you'll be too distracted by the menu. Whenever I dine out I try to pack in as many experiences as possible to my meal. As a result I will normally order 3 glasses of different wines rather than a bottle to share. Again, this place is a perfect setting! Go in, say what you feel like and the waiter will bring you something new and different to try. They have an amazingly diverse wine list that doesn't just stock from SA - that excites me. Their share plates are not big, but the richness and intensity of flavours mean that 3 or 4 plates + a salad for 2 is plenty. My favourite dishes were the scallops with a white bean puree and crisp pancetta or their Gawler River quail with caramalised pear and sherry vinegar. The blend of ingredients meant there were many oo's and ah's had with each bite. Service was wonderful and very efficient and there was never a moment our wine glasses or water was empty. Don't be on a budget when going here and please don't complain that the meals are too small. Sharing is caring people and stop being a greedy guts!
