The Alpine winter village is super awesome! It is located across from the River Torrens and has free entry for everyone until after 7pm where people are charged a $5 fee upon entry. I went at night and yes, it was busy. It was really pretty inside and reminded me a lot of the Adelaide Fringe in both it's vibe and decoration. The Alpine Winter Village really takes on the 'Christmas in July' theme as there were Christmas Tree's that said they were 'for sale' (I don't think they were actually for sale though lol I think that was just their for satirical decoration.) There was also a Credit Union Christmas Parade Float that people were allowed to sit up on! The float was so cool, it was a big life-size santa sled being led by two life size reindeers. There are camal rides that take place in the winter village and also a jumping castle and side show games! The ice-skating ring was quite crowded however it was of a decent size, I think that there should be a policy on how many people can use the ice skating ring at one particular time because there just looked like there was too many people on there.
There are quite a few toilets here which are good and despite the amount of people at the venue their wasn't any massive lines for the toilets. There are these open fires which are pretty cool and add to the whole winter village theme. There are these big white seats you can sit on right near the ice skating ring which enable you to have a bird's eye views of everyone of the ice skating ring. My favourite part was probably just sitting up on those chairs relaxing and watching the world go by. There is also a big white dome thingo which a radio mob play their music. I went in there and noticed that there was a table in which they provided complimentary candy for the kids. I'm pretty sure that for an adult, it costs $12.50 to have a 45 minute go on the ice skating ring. My advice would be try to get onto the ice skating ring when it's not very busy (perhaps try going on a week day night?)
There's food that you can purchase in this venue to however i'm unsure of the prices as I didn't have a good look. There's a market here too which has various stalls featuring (I would assume) local Adelaide and home businesses selling jellwry and clothes and other things that I can't quite remember. There's a disco type thing here too with a disco ball and dj. The drinks were a bit pricy.
I reckon that this place is definetly worth a visit. Kids will love it here. Keep in mind that this event is only held in July and I actually think it finishes today :0. If you missed out on coming this year, don't worry.. there's always the next year. read more
