Dozynki festival is a celebration of harvest amongst the Polish community in Adelaide. The national costumes is colourful and absolutely pretty. When the festival kicks off, a huge wreath filled with wheat and rye and decorated with flowers, ribbons, hazelnuts and the fruit of the mountain ash tree makes its way through a procession. Later cultural performances, songs and dancers liven up the Festival whilst the crowd enjoy Polish food and Polish beer and vodka. I love sampling international cuisine and if you're like me, you'll dig in the cabbage rolls, Zurek (sour soup), goulash and more! It is truly a colourful event and exudes the charm and beauty of the Polish community.

Celebrate the multicultural Malaysia in Malaysia Fest or popularly known as MFest…read more Held at Victoria Square, the festival brings together the beautiful culture, cuisine and arts and crafts of everything Malaysia. With cultural performances representing the various states across Malaysia, be in awe as you witness performances from the Dayak, Iban, Indian and Chinese community. There is also the silat performance, which is Malaysia's traditional martial arts which interest many. I haven't met anyone in Adelaide who doesn't enjoy a good plate of Malaysian food. Come here hungry and feed your gastronomical senses as you dig into the nasi lemak, murtabak, popiah, ayam goreng (fried chicken) and more delightful bites. Very much a family friendly festival for all to partake.

Approaching Schutzenfest there was at least three different party tunes all thumbing at the same time. Warm evenings, the smell of dewy grass, long shadows cast by the lights... ahhh, the excitement of summer! Schutzenfest is a rip-off (adult entry: $18). But when everyone's getting ripped-off then it's tolerable. At 8 O'clock when I collected my first beer the guy said, "get it in yeah" so my soberness must have showed. It's my understanding that Friday night has a younger more rowdy crowd and Saturday is more family oriented. Here's how I'll put it: probably not the best atmosphere for kids Friday night, but either day is good for parting. Speaking of kids, Schutzenfest gets pretty loose (obviously) and everyone has a good time... there are bound to be a few Schutzenfest babies come mid-September.!

Grab you a stein and join in the fun…read more I'll be honest, I didn't know this was about shooting, I just thought it was about how many steins of beer you can possibly drink in one sitting. I believe a stein holds approx 1L of beer, crazy yes. I was once privileged enough to visit Hofbrauehaus in Munich which is a German beer hall, one of my girlfriends asked for a lemonade and what they brought her was a stein containing half lemonade half beer. That's how this festival is also (may i say how it should be) drink beer or go home. Who asks for a lemonade in a beer hall? disgraceful. This year tickets are $18 for adults and free for kiddies (my advice is leave the kids at your parents and don't tell them where you are going) and I believe you get a stein on entry...but I could be wrong. I cant even remember how good it was which means it must have been good. This year I noticed there is a Coopers Strong Arm Beer Stein Lifting Competition, this could be entertaining. *Drink responsibly everyone, nobody likes a drunken debutante.

Well timed for the school holidays, this will be a destination for many many parents who has kiddies with too much energy to burn. It is hard to go past the Brathaus without stopping to admire the scrumptious looking wursts crackling away. Promptly we joined the queue and within minutes we were rewarded with the delicious brockwurst and pretzel. Ahhh...German food, you are glorious! Mulled wine from the crew at Alpha Box and Dice went down a treat tonight and why wouldn't it on such a perfect winter day!!! Concept - 20 food vans get together and offer up food over lunch time in Vic Square Implementation - It was more than just a gathering of trucks. It was the vibe of the thing, it was Mabo, it was trucking brilliant. Never have I seen so many high quality food vans in the one location all with line ups of Adelaidians waiting for some grub or a thirst quencher. From Raw Thirst to Burger Theory, La Cantina to Fair Espresso, Four Seeds and TacoCat and boys on bikes Smoothie Revolution and Veggie Velo there was something for everyone at this event and probably why half of Adelaide was in attendance. Tips to make the most of being forked? - Get there early or late (lines were long from 12:30pm-2:30pm) - If you don't like lines, shut the truck up and wait your turn. Fork is awesome. - Pace yourself and get a tasting of more than one thing - Enjoy lounging about in deck chairs or BYO picnic rug and make an arvo of it. The Bigpond Adelaide Film Festival (or BAFF, as we call it) is one of the few festivals in Adelaide…read morethat we can truly say is world class. Held biannually across several city venues, the festival features and premieres great films made all over the world and in Adelaide. This year I got a six film pass and saw a wide variety of films - films about artists, foreign films, dramas, comedies and documentaries. Most of the films I enjoyed a lot, and none were terrible or subpar films. As well as traditional films, BAFF features video art exhibitions by both local and international artists, and in 2011 a large-scale multimedia work which could be accessed through smart-phones. One of the best aspects of BAFF is its seed funding of Australian and South Australian films. This has funded some of the best Australian films, including Look Both Ways, My Year WIthout Sex, Snowtown, Shut Up LIttle Man and Samson and Delilah. Thankfully, for those of us who experience festival fatigue in March, the 2013 festival will be in October.

And your munchies will strategically be cured by food trucks like Little Big Cheese Co, La Cantina and TacoCat who were there this year. Quaff a few wines, buy a bottle of your favourite that you have tried that day from East End Cellars in the same laneway and sprawl out on Splash Adelaide deck chairs, fake lawn, crates and tables in the shade for the rest of the afternoon. This quirky event brings out such a diverse blend of young and old from Adelaide to appreciate our local talent and produce. It has smacks of great organising with an undertone of good behaviour for most of the day and a lingering flavour at the back of your mouth that makes you want this event to run more than once a year!

Hundreds of wine enthusiasts got together in a back laneway of the city along with lots of wine producers from all around Australia, and we sampled, sat and sipped to our heart's content. There was a great set up of deck chairs, stools and milk crates and plenty of areas to sit and relax in. It wasn't hard to find a seat (apart from the first few people I asked that were saving every seat near them!). The food selection was good and there were a few different types of food available. Special mention goes to the free fairy floss!! I think it would be great to have some kind of food included - maybe a voucher or something with your ticket that gives you some olives and bread or something like that. For the ticket price it seems like that would be doable and also promotes responsible drinking. It was very helpful to have a list of all the wineries represented so you could mark off as you tasted. The specials offered on the day were also extended to the end of the month with a order form included in the brochure. Why not 5 stars? A bit picky but I was a bit disappointed that they felt they couldn't trust me with a glass made of glass. Since it was an inclusion of the ticket price i was expecting something more 'collectable.' Overall a great event and I plan to attend if it's on again next year!

Held at the primary school it was organised and set up by so many volunteers who have done a good job. Once inside there were stalls selling Japanese origami goods, plush toys, books, manga, anime culture collectibles, Japanese arts and craft and displays. There were three areas which had music and Japanese martial arts demonstration running throughout the day. Rather interesting. In terms of food, we indulged in some very delicious and popular Okonomiyaki, takoyaki, yakitori chicken skewers and Tteokbokki (Korean). Special Japanese buns were also on offer along with sushi, onigiri, sweets, Japanese curry and bento sets. Something for everyone. There were kimonos to hire and classes for kids and adults alike too.

If you are an anime, manga, gaming or other form of geekery fan this is the event for you!…read more I've been attending this annual convention since 2006 and it just gets better and better! :) Two key things have emerged in recent years which increases the fun - international guests (e.g. voice actors and professional cosplayers - for example Jessica Nigri this year) and provision of child friendly areas and events. Hot tip - some stall holders start slashing their merchandise prices on the Sunday particularly the Sunday afternoon. Having said that, if there's something you desperately want (eg the limited edition AVCon merch) just buy it as it can sell out!
