It's a great neighborhood hole in the wall, with plenty of parking in the back. We were met by a server, right away, and ordered pizza and drinks. Our table wobbled, significantly, and our cheeseburger pizza didn't have ground beef, and the server didn't return, and we were starving, so we kept eating. Idk why we weren't given a discount. I want to start by saying that we really like the food. Unfortunately, the service from the bartender/waitresses was atrocious! We sat down and waited at least 10 minutes before being acknowledged. My husband ordered a beer and I ordered a soda. I hadn't decided what I wanted for a drink. The bartender brought our drinks and walked away. Maybe 15 minutes later she came back to take our order. The food came out promptly. At that time I asked for a mixed drink. Well, the mixed drink never came, we were never checked on, and both of our original drinks had gone dry and were never asked for a refill. The bartenders helped all of the other tables around us, but ignored us completely. When the bartender finally came over after we were done eating (which was a while), I told her I never got my drink. She promptly told me that she never got the order from the other bartender. At that point I let her know I ordered it from her. She apologized and promptly brought us the check. I'm just so bummed because, like I said, the food is good. Wow! The food is great! We had a burger that needed an elevator just to get to the top!! Only kidding. The portions are very large and prices are VERY reasonable. Now, it wouldn't help if you got a lot of so-so food for a low price, however, that is not the case here. The burgers are outstanding, and the antipasto was very tasty. Didn't even need ketchup or mustard for the burgers. The pizza looked marvelous, so we will have that next time. The wings are a must try, as friends had those. The music is really good with a warm vibe from the patrons. The servers were very efficient, no empty plate or glass sat on the table too long, and it was full house busy. The owners mingle with the crowd and really care. Lastly, the bathrooms are small, but clean. If you are wondering if you should go there for some drinks, music, or a bite to eat- just go. read more

We usually come here when we're in the area visiting family. This past weekend we had a particularly nice visit at the Black Sheep. We were greeted and served drinks right away. When we met up with friends, we got a nice table outside. There were 5 of us, and drinks were never unattended to. For dinner, I ordered the Eggplant Sub. It was HUGE. I was surprised how good it was. Usually eggplant doesn't have a lot of flavor, but this was delicious, not overly fried, with lots of cheese. It comes with fries AND onion rings. I could only finish half of it. Definitely a good price for a huge meal. In the past, I've had the greek salad, mozzarella sticks, and other apps. Nice little place, with friendly service. The BEST Pizza around! We tried the Smoke House pizza and it was the best thing I ever had. (BBQ Sauce, grilled Chicken, bacon and sliced red onions) The dough was light and crispy, pizza was not too greasy, and it was full of flavor (the red onions really made it great). We have also tried other specialty pizzas there that are fantastic! I have only picked up, never dined in. I'm also not much a pizza person but there's has me hooked! Highly recommended ! read more

This was by far one of the worst experiences I've had!! We were the only table of customers inside and no one came to ask if we wanted a drink. I had to go up to the 'empty' bar to order drinks. The drinks came and the tap beer was warm-'problem' with the keg I guess..no apologies. Ordered food for a table of five-three of us got food and after repeatedly asking where the food for the other two was-nothing! Finally 30 minutes after that the other food came out long after the initial food was brought. Again no apologies! And after all that the orders were incorrect and incomplete!! Once again no apologies!!! Doors open and many flies!! They had absolutely no consideration for the poor experience we had!! No apologies!!!! I would never recommend this place nor return!! Spectacular service!!!! Everyone was sooo friendly, but never over bearing. The place serves basic bar food, nothing out of the ordinary. We had chicken wings and a salad. The wings were great & the salad very large. I took half of it home. A blues band was playing while the Celtics were playing a Game 7. The band was great and there were there plenty of TV's. Love, love, love this place! The pizza is the BEST but honestly everything (and I have tried it all) I have eaten there has been so good. Kudos to the chef. I usually go on a Sunday. The staff is awesome. They are personable ,friendly and attentive, no matter how busy. They have an outside deck which is a nice option and live music on the weekends, including Sunday's. Best pizza in the area. It's true, they just got an award for it! I have never had a bad meal. I love the smokehouse bbq chicken pizza and the bacon cheeseburger pizza. They chicken tenders are really big! The broccoli cheese bites are cooked perfectly. The fresh cut fries are outstanding. They have a deck out back that is being renovated. Great place. Need to get there early if you want a seat otherwise you will stand. TV's cover most angles so you can watch the game from most anywhere. I came here with a friend to watch my buddies cover band play. The atmosphere is nothing more or less than I would expect it to be for a tavern. It seemed relatively clean and up to date. They have a decent sized patio in back. The reason I'm only giving it two stars in my review is because one of the bartenders needs an attitude adjustment. i ordered two drinks on the night I was there (Both SoCo and coke). The first drink I ordered from the brunette bartender who seemed pretty friendly. She made my drink to perfection. The second drink however was made by the blonde bartender. When she gave me my drink, I could taste nothing but soda. So, I kindly said "I'd hate to bother you but I can't taste any of the SoCo in my drink." I said I could taste it in the one the other bartender made me. So she poured a little more in, gave me a dirty look and rudely said "I doubt that!" Then she walked over with my change like I was inconveniencing her and practically threw the money in my direction. When I'm paying $8.50 for a drink that consists of nothing but two ingredients SoCo/Coke, I expect to be able to taste the liquor I'm paying for in it. No one buys a mixed drink wanting it to taste like nothing but soda. I probably would have ordered one more drink at some point (even though that drink was way over priced) but this bartenders attitude prevented me from doing so. read more

There are two aspects to the Black Sheep Tavern: the bar, and the take out. I have experience with the latter, not the former. As far as the pizza, some of my friends love it, but it's not my style. That said, it's decent, better than frozen. I'm prompted to write a review because of what happened recently. I called in an order for two pizzas, and waited the estimated 20 minutes before I went to pick them up. While paying, a woman from their bar section came in and took my pizza, to serve to someone in the bar area; I didn't know it was my pizza until the takeout staff figured out what happened. They apologized, and said it would take about 7 minutes more, which I was okay with. But that 7 minutes turned into 20 minutes, and I didn't know if they forgot my order. If I hadn't paid for the pizza already, I would have walked out. Their staff caused the problem and they didn't do anything to try and make the customer happy, such as offer a refund for that one pizza. For the pizza, I'd give them three stars, but for the service, one star. read more

Don't bother trying this place. My girlfriend and I recently decided to try out the Black Sheep because of a $25 Living Social deal I had purchased a few days before. We went in on a Thursday night around 5:30pm. Wasn't busy so we started at the bar to play a game of Keno and look over a menu to see what we wanted to order. The bartenders were very nice and friendly and made it seem like it was a good deal buying the certificate. We decided what we wanted to order and walked over to their To-Go section on the other end of the building. We placed our order for about $40 worth of food and I showed them the deal on my phone through the Living Social application. They tell me it has to be printed out and I point out the fact that it clearly states "Deal can be printed and displayed or displayed using our iphone or android application". He says that it doesn't matter and that I will have to print it. I ask if it is possible to speak to a manager. He is a manager and is treating me very poorly for a customer with his rude way of speaking and attitude. He says he can go ask the owner who is in and comes back saying that its still a no. Saying they cant help me. I ask what do we do about the food we ordered? He tells me that we have to pay full price. I ask to speak to the owner myself and he laughs me off and says no. I get frustrated and tell him never mind on the whole thing. That we wouldn't be back. We head over to the bar to check the keno ticket and the owner comes through the door a couple minutes later looking for us. Tells us he doesn't have the technology to take the deal from a phone and that I can try to email it to him. We try it and it takes 3 times of emailing it for him to finally get it. Through all this...it takes about an hour and a half and our food must have been sitting there the whole time because when it was all finally done our food was ice cold. We didn't feel like dealing with it any more so we just took it and left. Other than all that...this place is gross and they do not use the proper kitchen technique. The workers were not using gloves and were going from making a pizza to handling the money, coughing, touching their dirty clothes and counters and raw chicken and then going back to the pizza. Just grossed out. Will not be back and do not recommend visiting. read more

I go to Tuesday night Trivia at the Black Sheep -- best trivia around. John gives excellent musical clues that require you to really dig deep to create connections and find your way to the answer. I live in Sterling, so I have been there several times. I am conflicted about this place, as the food is good and can have good entertainment, but the service is horrible. It can be one or two tables taken, and they will not come to take your order (even for a drink). I have had to go to the bar more than once even though they see us walk in and sit down. The worst was when my boyfriend and I went and sat at the bar and STILL the bartender did not take our order. We had to flag her down as she was too busy talking to the regulars. The owner, who was standing at the end of the bar did and said nothing. When we mentioned it to him, he didn't seem to care and just said they were understaffed. That wasn't true. Didn't offer a free drink (for our trouble) or even an apology. Although my kids still like to get pizza for takeout, we won't be back to eat in. Too bad, because it really wouldn't take a lot for him to stress better service to his staff. He simply does not care. They cater to their regulars. Everyone else is on their own. read more

I will NEVER step foot in this establishment again! I always try to support local places so when my brother suggested Black Sheep I was all for it. We took my mom out to eat and to have a few beers on a Thursday night. We took a seat and no one came over to us at all, my mom had to approach the bar to ask how we would get some service. The woman said the bartender would take care of us little did we know that woman at the bar having a drink was the bartender. It took 15 minutes for us to just get a menu! She then handed the menu to the couple in the next table that had only been sitting there a few minutes. As we are waiting for our burgers we are looking around to all the other tables getting the food before us. The bartender came over to us twice saying the food would be right out. As we are waiting that couple that came in after us got their appetizer and 2 entrees before we go anything. Needless to say after waiting for food for 35 minutes I went to the bar requesting my bill for the drinks and to take the burgers off since we never got it. It took forever to get the bill since the bartender had to ask the owner if she could take them off. Excuse my I'm not paying for anything I did not get. I was about to throw cash on the table when she finally came back and gave it me and pointed to the OWNER sitting at a table drinking with his friends, what a way to run your establishment. ON the way out my mother told him he should be ashamed and he said that is not unreasonable to wait 30 minutes for food. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! A nice hangout, and some great live music at times. The buffalo Pizza is an attraction, but the rest is basic pub food. Oddly, they quit serving food at 10:00. Arrive early if you want a place to sit inside to listen to the band. Lots of patio seating outdoors in warm weather. My only complaint is that the bar staff seem constantly distracted, and it takes a bit longer than usual to get a drink. We found this cozy little tavern whilst looking thru an alternative weekly for live music on a Sunday afternoon. The invitational blues jam is hosted by regional favorite, A Ton Of Blues, comprised of seasoned veteran bluesmen. The deliciously-prepared food and hand-crafted drinks were very reasonably priced. The only con is they do not serve coffee at all. (I likes me hot toddies during the cold winter season, and with the occasional sandwich.) The Greek Grilled Chicken Pizza was topped with a cold Greek salad - yes, it sounds unfamiliar but the mixed crunch, flavors and texture made it unbelievably tasty!
