This is a great local, small place. Great Brussel sprouts and cauliflower for apps. We also have nachos, flatbread and tacos. Everything was tasty. They have good beer and drink options. We were able to watch the games and eat some good food. Also, the staff members (especially Bailey) were very nice and helpful. I literally have no complaint. My partner and I were seated, we got some waters and looked over the menu. They had a lot of delicious options, but we went with Cheese on Cheese sandwich which was AMAZING; a grilled cheese with MAC N' CHEESE with bacon. The bread was grilled to perfection, it was just so dang delicious. Came with very good fries and had malt vinegar! We also split a bowl of tomato soup to dip the sandwich in, which was certainly a plus. I will say tho I would not be a happy customer if I ordered the soup just as is. It's a Saturday afternoon and I am with eleven other men celebrating (which means making fun of) one of the last members of our group to fall victim to a beautiful woman. Yup marriage is right around the corner so we need a place where we can induct him into the club, explain to him how radically his life is going to change, and then let him ponder reality over a few beers and some Jameson. Our first choice has a line a mile long. We want to stay very local so after a quick call to ensure they have the room we head over to the Tavern on Central in Ashburnham Massachusetts. If you're not local, the tavern is well worth a visit. Chef Sean McNally purchased it in 2014; he is also the chef-owner of Blueprint New American Bar and Grill, and the event venue McNally's Catering, both in Westminster. We are very fortunate here to have a talented restauranteur who wanted to build out his businesses locally rather than moving to the "big city". If you are thinking about a visit you can expect a twist on the tavern food theme. Sean is a creative chef who puts an Avant-Garde spin on comfort and pub food. I will write more about that in a separate review on Blueprint. This time we were less interested in lunch and more interested in the beer and snack menu. The Tavern has a great selection on draft to include Guinness (#1 in my book) and the locally brewed Wachusett ales with an excellent cross-section for everyone else. We ordered every variation of the chicken wing on the menu, bone-in. Hot, BBQ, Tavern Fever, Old Bay, Sweet Thai Chili, Teriyaki. Although they were all very tasty a few were similar and hard to tell apart. They were also on the saucy side. Sometimes less is more. Hot needed more heat, but putting Old Bay seasoning on a chicken wing, brilliant! The nachos were generous, hot (as in temperature), and loaded with goodies including the pulled pork option suggested by our server. The service was excellent. Our server smiled with her eyes and voice, important nowadays with everyone doing their COVID-19 mask imitations of "Bane" from the Dark Knight rises. Fast delivery of hot food and cold drinks was the order of the day. They had to split our party due to the latest variation of indoor dining rules but we were seated in the back and adjacent to each other, so it all worked out well. Oh, a heads up. There is no cell service. Ashburnham still uses the pony express and party lines. Don't complain, its small-town New England. The restaurant has WiFi and provides the password for you so you connected junkies don't go into withdrawal Let me rant about tipping for a moment. We had an excellent server who was going to get a very good tip. In fact, I tipped her very generously after the first round of drinks was delivered and let her know this was in fact a "pre-tip" I have done this on a few occasions when I was with a large group for business or pleasure. It lets the server know they are appreciated early on and almost always guarantees a step up in service. At the end of the evening, she would have received an additional twenty percent plus on the bill. Enter Auto Gratuity. I hate that. Auto Gratuity is what you get when you have a larger group and the restaurant decides what you should tip regardless of the level of service. But here is the dirty little industry secret. According to Federal Law (IRS Part I. Rulings and Decisions Under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986) that 18% charge you get added to your bill as "automatic gratuity" is NOT a tip. In fact, it's a "Service Charge" and as such the restaurant gets to keep it. They are under no obligation to pass it to the Wait Staff. That is another good reason to hate the darn things. I am sure that our local gems don't take advantage of the staff but remember this if your dining out, the service is great, and your bill comes with an 18% gratuity built-in. Your server may be getting the short end of the stick. read more

We come to ToC often since it is a few miles from home. Husband and wife team, Laurie and Derek Maillet are phenomenal cooks! Laurie's chowder bases are some of the best I've had, try the clam or seafood chowder which are rich and thick and full of seafood. The burgers are fresh grass fed beef and packed full of flavor. If you are lucky enough to be dining when Chicken Piccata is on the menu you must order it! The sauce is creamy and lemony with a hint of brine from the capers. The chicken is cooked in an egg batter which soaks up the delicious sauce and creates the most tender chicken you've ever put on your mouth! Come also for live music and a fantastic beer selection. The wines and cocktails are great too! The only complaint is the inconsistent service...but the food makes up for it. read more

First time coming here and we decided to go out for a ladies night out. I know the owners own Blueprint as well. I had a much better experience here and it felt more inviting and comfortable there. We had a great waiter and of course, I got an appetizer. :) I ordered Burrata which is similar to a Caprese salad. It was a log of mozzarella cheese, with chopped tomato and drizzled with olive oil and balsamic. It was served with perfect garlic bread. I had Moscato, which was pretty good. My friends got the avocado tacos and the nachos with chili. The host, the waitress, and the food was great. The only faux paw was lipstick on my wine glass. There was a trivia going on but we were far to busy catching up. There is a definite plan is in the works to return. read more

Really bad customer service. Had a drink and ordered some wings to take home. Bartender asked for my phone number. I asked why she needed that. She was immediately annoyed. "Because it asks me for your number. It's not like I'm going to call you." I told her i wasnt trying to be difficult. "I'll put in my number if it's a big deal to you" I told her it wasnt, I was just curious if it was a new policy. I've drive by the Tavern several times and a couple weeks ago I stopped to check it out. It's nice inside. Sitting at the bar I ordered the fried brussel sprouts and a beer. While sipping the glass of beer the fried sprouts arrived, unfortunately the sprouts looked like lumps of coal with a distinctively burnt flavor like the fry boy in the kitchen forgot he dropped an order of sprout into the fryer. But being rather hungry I decided to chow down figuring the dipping sauce would help improve taste but the skimpy serving of sauce ran out before I could finish so I abandoned my attempt to finish the lumps of coal, on the bright side the beer was good but fortunately the Tavern doesnt brew the beer. read more

The more things change, the more they stay the same... Saturday night, we met another couple for dinner and drinks at the Tavern on Central. My 2nd time here for food and it is probably the last. The same slow, indifferent service that occurred with previous establishments in this location is back. Hard to understand that with the same owner as Blueprint in Westminster, that there is such a different vibe here. Nachos with Cheese Wiz, Pulled Pork Tacos that had 4x as much filler as pork and ho-hum burger and salads were all average at best. The capper on the evening was the performance of the 80's cover band, Tyrus. With the volume cranked up and a lead singer who could have doubled for Adam Sandler in the Wedding Singer, it made the entire night a virtual nightmare. Having to scream across the table to our friends and listening to 5+ Cars throwbacks was painful on the ears and vocal cords. I grew up in the 80's and actually have fun with the music but the poor guy could not make it work. We will stick with the Blueprint and the Gardner Alehouse and take TOC out of the rotation. read more

This place is amazing. I love it here every meal I get is super super good. Never had one bad meal here. My only complaint is that sitting in the back sucks and it's cold and when it rains for some reason the floor gets soaked. But I'm rating more on the food experience.
