Don't feel like wine? Then try the beer that was brewed specifically for this bar: Spieghelsbier, which is a pleasantly different witbier. And of course De Twee Spieghels wouldn't be a Jazz bar without regular jam sessions and performances. They're definitely worth a visit, but the music sometimes has the tendency to drown out all possibility for conversation. Since we were only together briefly, my fellow Facebook/Runkeeper friends wanted to celebrate. This restaurant is a really nice steak house, but I'm vegetarian. (This wasn't my choice and I didn't know of any options, being a visitor. So yes, they pulled a vegetarian into a meat house. I suppose if they ever visit the States, I'll make them eat brussel sprouts lol.) Other than the Catch of the Day option, there was the risotto on the menu. I must say it was an excellent choice because the taste was exceptional! When they found out that it was my birthday (I guess it was a given due to loud singing), our beautiful server gave me a gift of their award winning house gin and a bottle of tonic. Wijn and Ko doesn't have an ambience of a restaurant or a wine cellar, but more like a big open bar place..I wasnt very impressed with the interior. What about the wine - they have a very big selection of different wines per glass or only per bottle. The prices are pretty steep and they start with 3.75 Euro and quickly go up. I had some wine for 3.75 or 4.75 and they were ok, however I had better and for a lower price. I tried a really nice one for 5.75. It was a good wine, but the price quality wasn't that great. If talking about the food. We had a big meat platter to share and vegetarian platter. They were ok, nothing too fancy and also quite pricey I must say. Later we found out that they also had a special 3 course menu offer for 25 - which sounded like a good deal. We went for dessert only option - creme brullee and cheese platter - they were pretty nice. Service..ah..this is a part that is the cherry on the top and it either makes this a good place or not. The waiter who was taking care of our wine orders wasnt very service oriented. He would bring the wine to men first and then serve the ladies. What even shocked me a lot more..was that they should know what temperature the wine should be served at...When commenting that my red wine was way too cold - negroamaro is not served chilled...he said that it will warm up..right..maybe after 2 hours of warming it with my hands..Luckily owner of the place had a different service approach and exchanged it right away.
