While in Crystal River, we were torn between a few good choices to enjoy breakfast in the area. Yelpers never steer me wrong, so went with the Biscuit Barn for the excellent reviews. Walking in the cute diner, I ogled the plates of good looking food as our sweet server led us to a nice table on the side. Pancakes the size of the dinner plate, smothered hash browns, and a variety of egg dishes all looked amazing, but of course at the Biscuit Barn, we had to go with some Biscuit dishes. My husband ordered his good southern favorite biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. I went with the fried apple biscuit with a hash brown patty on the side. A lot of carbs I know, but we were about to embark on a long day of bicycling and kayaking. The biscuit and gravy was one split biscuit smothered in a rich sausage gravy and was just right. The side of bacon may have been the highlight of the meal however. It was a generous portion, super smoky, thick cut and beautifully crispy. My fried apple biscuit was similar to the not too sweet fried apples you will find somewhere like Cracker Barrel sandwiched between a fluffy biscuit. The server suggested topping with honey and this really made it yummy. The hash brown patty looked like something you would get at a fast food restaurant but it tasted so much better. Overall the meal was excellent, and what made it worth the full five stars was the super reasonable prices. We would absolutely recommend and enjoy breakfast again here next time we are in the area. read more

The food was really good (5/5), but the atmosphere and decor was not (2/5). I was extremely surprised (and disappointed) to see the staff (and customers) were not wearing masks. We are STILL in a pandemic and this restaurant is off a main road brining in customers traveling from all over. I didn't see any hand sanitizer available and the staff did not appear to be washing their hands, wearing gloves, or any behaviors to demonstrate cleanliness. There are no brunch places in Crystal River, but the biscuit barn does have good biscuits. Next time I'd ask to get our food to go. read more

When I walked in and saw NO ONE( customers or staff) wearing face coverings, I should have walked out. Especially when everyone who is NOT wearing a mask, stares at your for wearing a mask. Nevertheless, since it was early on a Sunday morning, I decided to eat and run before a huge crowd came in. I had the biscuit with egg and cheese. The cheese was not cheese, but CHEEZE. Velveta or something that did not even remotely resemble cheese. The egg was supposed to be scrambled, but it reminded me of the folded egg from McDonald's. I also had a side of grits and was happy when they brought me real butter with it( they have margarine on the table). My wife had a sausage biscuit and liked that. We also ordered a cinnamon roll. We stopped in here on our trip to Crystal River and this was hands down some of the best food I've ever eaten in my life. I think my favorite thing was the fried to order apple fritters. Perfectly spiced batter peppered with small cubes of juicy apple, served with a caramel dipping sauce. They were absolute perfection. You must try them. For me, because I'm now several thousand miles away from them and it breaks my heart, but I can at least know that you are having a transcendent experience. But everything else was excellent too. The biscuits were fluffy and buttery (as you would expect at the Biscuit Barn!) and the apple butter was perfectly apple-y and sweet. The corned beef hash was yummy too. Add the food to the whimsical decor (chicken figurines and vintage kitchen implements on the shelves) and the excellent service and you have a recipe for success. The Biscuit Barn was recommended to us multiple times, so I was excited to try it out on our way home from our Crystal River vacation. It is a very cute spot that was very inviting when entered. The staff was very friendly, however no one in the whole restaurant was wearing a mask which has been recommended by the CDC to stop the spread of COVID-19. The prices were also a little pricey; however the biscuits and cinnamon roll were very good. Just for reference, 2 biscuits and a cinnamon was right at $15.00. We did not get any drinks or sides. This restaurant does not have a drive up window and would of been better if I would of called ahead. This is an AMAZING biscuit place. We're from Ohio and travel to see the manatees and scuba dive in several Florida springs in the area. Every time we come, we make it a point to hit the biscuit barn. The biscuits are outstanding and service has always been great. The parking lot is small but has motorcycle parking and the restaurant may have a short wait - but it's so worth it. Talk about good! This place is a little place off 19 that you can't miss, be warned, it gets busy. We got there one morning a bit late, around 9:30-10, and it was packed! The nice thing is that they have a fast turn around, so we only waited about 10 minutes in the beautiful Florida weather (I am not complaining). I ordered one of there specialty biscuit sandwiches with fried chicken and gravy... I was in heaven! I wasn't a huge fan of the hasbrowns on the side, but they were still decent, and I ordered it "smothered". Yep, it's exactly what you think, COVERED in gravy . After a morning of kayaking on crystal river we were looking for a place nearby to eat. We saw this place on yelp but weren't sure what the menu consisted of, but as we were driving by we saw the lot packed with cars and figured it was a must try! I ordered the Mac and cheese with ham which came with a side, so I chose fried apples. As it was called 'biscuit barn' I figured I also needed to try a biscuit so I added this on less than $1. The Mac and cheese was AMAZING and hit the spot on a chilly Florida morning, it was the perfect comfort food. It tasted like there was mustard in it as well which I have never had in my macaroni but have heard about..and it was actually really good and blended well with the taste! The biscuit was large and SO soft and buttery. Most biscuits from places end up being dry but this was the completely opposite, it was moist and flavorful. The fried apples were a good way to end the meal; though I thought they could've done with a little less cinnamon. Overall, this place was a great find and I understand now why it was packed with people. I am so thankful to our Comfort Inn clerk, as when I checked out - he advised we skip Denny's on our way into town, and go to "The Biscuit Barn" instead! We quickly arrived, and sat right at counter after at least 3 amazing and jolly "Good morning!" greetings. The food is great but no comparison to Grannies. The positive thing is there friendly and our waitress Ashley was great with a smile every time and very accommodating.
