There were only 3 people ahead of me and I waited about 15 minuites. I chose the haddock and chips with greek fries. Generous portion sizes and good crunchy batter. Greek fries had feta cheese, red onions, tomatos and what tasted like the Greek salad dressing. Fries were nice and chunky. Disappointed that a standard order of fish and chips doesnt come with the slaw unless upgraded to a combo with the drink. Lots of parking. Friendly service. Small space but enough tables, can probably seat about 16 people but many customers were there for take out. I recently visited The Big Catch's Newmarket location as part of a Yelp experience. I loved the food and experience so much that I wanted to have some at its newest location in Markham. I came here last Saturday for a late lunch at roughly 2 pm. It's in an area with businesses on the main floor in a condo complex. I originally parked in a spot in front of the eatery. I then read the sign that said that it was reserved parking. I found visitor parking, which faces Battista Perri Drive. I feel that the parking designations should be switched. Visitor parking should be in front of the business. I saw one male customer who found walking to be a challenge. His family didn't bother parking in the visitor parking. I don't blame him. His family parked in a reserved spot. I walked in. There were two women ahead of me, waiting for their order. They were kind to let me know that they were waiting for their food. This eatery has five tables with chairs. Seating is limited, which is a drawback to this space. It also does not have air conditioning. Instead, a small oscillating fan worked to cool customers dining in. I got a nice woman behind the counter. I ordered the following: - Diet Coke - Halibut fish and chips She thought that I was doing takeout. I thought that I'd place my order to dine in at the counter. I wasn't expecting a menu with my order taken at a table because it was such a tight space. I probably helped with a staffer walking a few times. I grabbed my Diet Coke and sat at a table. It was hot. I sat facing the fan, hoping that I'd cool down when the oscillation faced me. Probably the woman next to the fan benefitted the most. I did once she left. My food came fairly fast. I loved what I saw in front of me. I got a decent halibut square with fries and tartar sauce. The food was consistent with what I had at its Newmarket location. The halibut had a light crispy batter. It was flaky and yummy. I liked the chips here better. They were perfect in doneness and volume. I loved the tartar sauce. I used it on both the halibut and fries. So good! My Diet Coke was cold and yummy. I needed it to wash my meal down. I used the washroom before I left. It's a single stall next to the kitchen. It was clean. Staff are super friendly. I paid with a credit card. No issues. I'd recommend getting takeout for yummy halibut and chips. Seating is limited and it does get hot in here if you do dine in. With the demise of my fav Danny's Fish & Chips, was beyond thrilled to see the sign go up a few months back that a new fish & chips spot was opening minutes away from where I live. I only learned about their "unofficial" opening prior to their soft opening because of all of the reels I was seeing posted to IG of their Family Feast menu item. I say unofficial because I live close enough that it's on our way home and I could see, that they were not open yet and still setting up inside. I stopped in during their soft opening , but it was very chaotic inside and people were being turned by other diners waiting for their food sharing that Big Catch was not accepting any new orders. Apparently the wait for takeout and dining in was already 90+ minutes. I stood at the front counter for 10 minutes with staff right in front of me but nobody looked up or acknowledge me, so we left. I get it, day 3 of the soft opening, it's busy, limited hours, but don't ignore your customers. This is a brand that has been in business for over 30 yrs, so I was not expecting this lack of service. I did end up returning with my fam about a week later during the first week of July. Only one other table taken and it was not busy at all. We decided to grab a table and order. This is what we ordered: 3 Can Dine Haddock & Fries: 3 pieces of haddock , fries and coleslaw. I was tempted to order the halibut, but wanted to first try the simplistic option of haddock to see how this would go. I was a bit disappointed over the batter. It was uneven in some spots, very thick in spots and also overcooked in some spots and when I cut into it with my knife, it crumbled apart which affected the texture of the fish - which fell apart. It was salted too much for my liking as I sometimes enjoy either ketchup or tartar sauce with my fish. The fries overall were over salted. Odd because the fries that came with the shrimp ordered below, were not. I have been to a lot of fish & chip spots and this was the saltiest for me. Shrimp & chips: This was the winner for me! The batter was crispy and light, not oily and not too thick. The shrimps were pretty substantial in size. I would def order this again! Seasoning was light and just right. Their poutine is def a must try! The gravy was insanely good! Table service - well, we didn't really receive any except to take our orders and then bring our food. I would have preferred to just order, get my food and take a seat, but that is not an option. No plates taken away, no water refilled and nobody asked how our food was. I will def give them another try and order the halibut. If the fish and fries end up being too salty again - not sure I will revisit again and likely stick to Stouffville (Joy's) for fish and chips. ***Seating and parking is limited. We just got back from the Uk so fish and chips was still on our minds:) We went on a Saturday (they open 3pm Daily) and it was just my hubby and I. We ordered the Halibut with onion rings and chips + cod with chips to try the two types of fish. The fish was very fresh nicely battered and golden (the cooking oil is clean which I think is very important that they don't keep recycling the oil). The chips were crispy. The service is friendly. They accept cash or credit. We dine in and got a table wirh no problem. It got busy after 30min. The tartar sauce could use more relish although it was ok. Came on a Saturday night around 6pm. It was super busy. It's a pretty small spot with only a few tables. We couldn't get a table so decided to get takeout but even that we were quoted a 30 min wait. Decided to order anyway. We got the grand catch feast which had - 3 pieces of halibut, - - Onion Rings - Fried calamari - Fried shrimp - French fries - Coleslaw We upgraded the fries to a poutine and we also ordered a two-piece halibut family meal, which gave us more fries and two more pieces. We upgraded the small coleslaw to a Caesar salad instead for the two piece. We ended up waiting about an hour so order via phone instead. Everything tasted great. Would probably pass on the poutine next time. It didn't hold up well travelling home. The Caesar was a little over dressed but everything else we thought was really tasty. It's hard to find a solid fish and chips place in this area so I was so excited to try The Big Catch and it did not disappoint! It's fresh and made to order so expect to wait for your food (worth the wait)! Portions are large too! I opted to sub my fries with a Greek salad (+$5) and it was delicious. The poutine upgrade would also be a good choice as well. They have different tartar sauce flavours. My favourite is the spicy one. Would also recommend giving the onion rings a try! Walked in around 730 PM on a Friday night. There was a short line, but even so, it was a 45 min wait. We chose to take out, but they have six tables of four available for sitting. I would recommend calling in advance and then coming to pick up. They seemed a little disorganized in the kitchen, perhaps because they only opened a week ago. It seemed like the cashier lady had a hard time understanding English so we had to repeat our order several times. The signature halibut with two pieces and fries were 3 oz each, but if you were to get the halibut and fries, the fish was 4 oz. They have fresh cut potatoes which was a huge bonus for us. The coconut shrimp was ok - nothing too special but there were a good number for $15.99 a portion. I would revisit to try the haddock. Their parking lot is limited but it wasn't too difficult to find space. I may or may not have found my favourite spot. As someone who LOVES seafood, I was extremely happy to find that this place uses FRESH seafood and you can taste the quality in your meal. Additionally, all their sauces and batters are made in-house and they don't use beer batter for their fish. I really enjoyed my meal and experience here. The owner and the staff were super nice and welcoming. They told a bit about their family business, as well as how they use only fresh products for their food. The seafood tastes homemade for that reason. Nothing like it! The calamari? Different than I'm used to (again, because it's all fresh) but it was so so good. I also tried their Greek Salad which was crunchy and tasty. The sauces come on the side so you can choose how much you want. The portions were also very generous and filling. It can easily be shared but given how tasty it was, you might finish it by yourself. My favourite had to be the halbut, which literally melted in my mouth. Although the seafood was fried, I loved that I didn't feel like it was too oily and didn't get the oil taste in my mouth. They really know what they're doing and I guarantee that whenever I'm in the Markham area, I would definitely stop by for more. They've got a location in Newmarket area as well as Keswick, but I just found out about this place and I'm so glad I did. This place has all the family style fish and chips vibes and operation. I ordered the halibut feast. It came with 1. 1 pc Halibut 2. 1/2 fries 3 1/2 onion rings 4. Can of pop 5. Coleslaw (even though they left it off my order by mistake) All this for $22.99 + tax What a deal for today's restaurant prices. Everything was crispy and you could tell the oil was fresh and clean as all the food had a golden colour. The batter used was thin and crispy And I really loved the onion rings as they were freshly battered and homemade not frozen. The halibut too was amazing, it was pretty thick and solid white. The batter was light. Only complaint is I hope they start to get the orders out quicker and more efficiently as my takeout order took over 30 minutes. They were busy though but still could have been faster in my opinion They are new though and on a learning curve. I would recommend this place to all in the area. I would be back if in the vicinity but it is a far drive. And Going to some Toronto spots for my fish and chips fix would be more likely. The dine in area is small and a little stuffy but they have a few fans going to keep you cool. Service is relatively quick when they're not super busy. But the last time I did take out during their grand opening week, prime dinner time, it was a 45 min wait. But if the wait isn't too long, worth it. Ok. Been waiting for this place to open since there's still not too many food options close by. I must have missed the opening but remembered them today and swung by when I saw they were up and running. The place is a bit small for dining in as they only have a few 2-4 seater tables. When it's not busy it might be ok to eat there but if it's packed, you may have the takeout and uber eats delivery guys on top of you as you eat. I suggest taking the food to go. Staff were friendly and helpful going over the menu. I chose a 2-can-dine haddock which comes with fries, coleslaw and two dipping sauces. I took a tartar sauce and chipotle. I also ordered the "just calamari" as a side dish which comes with tartar sauce. I didn't realize the fish and fries came with slaw so had ordered one for $3.99. Believe it or not, the extra coleslaw was worth it as it was the best thing from what I ordered. Presentation and packing was very nice, and food was still hot and crunchy when I got home (I live close by). It tasted good but was not the true "chippy" experience I was hoping for. The fish portion was good but the batter was a bit too oily for me. After eating about half of mine, I stripped the batter off the remaining half and had the fish bare. It was salted just right, and the bite was firm and tasty. The fries were fries. Nothing to rave about especially as I was expecting chips and not fries. If you know, you know. The coleslaw was a clear winner and I'd say it's a good substitute for mushy peas which is not my cuppa tea. Tartar and chipotle sauces were both spot on, although it was disappointing that they don't offer vinegar, unless it was just missed in my order. I was not a fan of the calamari as it was also too oily battered and the flesh was rubbery. The batter is easy to get oily if the oil temp is even a bit off. Other reviewers didn't report this problem so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I will go back and try the halibut and hopefully I will like it more. We tried the location in Newmarket and so we were excited to see this opened up around the corner. Decided to try it as we were hungry. Restaurant isn't that big so a few tables to dine in. Order I believe was processed in a timely manner given it was a Saturday night. Ordered the two halibut and chips and poutine. Chips were soggy and disappointing. The halibut was a very thin layer and the batter was way too thick and crunchy that it took away from the whole experience. I would say that the halibut was so thin it account for 1/5 of the whole and the batter was the other 4/5 and was shocked that halibut could be so thin. I would definitely save your money and find another place to try. They are relatively new as working out the kinks but pricey. read more

Ordered 2 6OZ meal fish and chips . it took 50 minutes to be ready , when we asked the server said they forgot our order . Kitchen messed up .
