Wanted a new bicycle for exercise, one that I could grow into. Did the research on bicycles and…read morestores. Determined the most important aspect of purchasing a new bike was that it fit my cycling objectives as well as fit me...that seriously leaves out buying on line. Determined that I would look for a place where the staff was passionate about riding and dedicated to spending time with the customer to insure the right bike was carefully selected, then tailored to my "physique". In retail, it's tough to find sales staff willing to spend an extended amount of time with a prospective customer given that bikes don't carry the highest margins; there is a lot of competition in this crowded market. Then, the staff must understand the technical side of a perfect fit...you can buy golf clubs, but your game improves only if they were fit to the golfer; same with a business suit...you can only make a positive impression in a professional setting if a business suit has been tailored to the individual. After visiting a few bike shops in the Charleston/Mount Pleasant area, I found what I was looking for in Trek Bicycles Stores, both locations. Ben Gruber at the Mount Pleasant store took a significant amount of time with me to assess my cycling goals and objectives, then matching those in concert with my physical stature to the right bike; all this time spent not knowing if I would purchase a bike there or not. Following that, a very talented and well credentialed fitting specialist in Dan Kelley at the West Ashley store went through macro to micro measurements and empirical testing to fit the correct bike to me. Both Ben and Dan made sure I purchased the right bike for my cycling objectives as well as one that was fit for me. These were the compelling reasons why I endorse either of the two Trek stores as the right place, to purchase the right bike, for the right reasons.
