Bilda Bike is everything you'd want from a neighborhood shop - friendly staff and good work done fast and fair. Every time I bring in a bike for service they go out of their way to save me money. As someone who lives downtown and relies on a bike to get around, this shop is a godsend. read more

I had trouble with hard shifting on my rear derailleur on my Trek bike. I tried to fix it myself and misrouted the cable, making it worse. Trek bike fixed it while I waited and let me watch them so I could see the proper routing of the cables. They are the best!!! read more

I have been coming to Bilda Bike on King St. for maintenance on my Marin hybrid over the last three years (first couple of times were at the old location). On every visit, they have repaired the problem and have never tried to upsell me on some other aspect of the bike. The last visit has given me a reason to take the next step and write a comment as their customer service was outstanding. Through a mutual miscommunication, the wrong replacement tire was ordered and placed on my bike. I only noticed this about five weeks later, and went in hoping they might switch for the desired tire with some discount for the replacement. Dan, the owner of the shop apologized and went much further than I had expected in ensuring my satisfaction in the overall experience. In 2026, to have this kind of old school (i.e., proper) customer service is rather exceptional. This kind of service requires customer loyalty in response. I will always come to Dan for repairs and future purchases. I heartily recommend that anyone who needs bicycle repairs do the same. read more

This is my second time at Bildabike. In both cases they were friendly, fair and produced excellent results at a reasonable price. If a friend or any member of my family needs their bike repaired, I'll tell them to go Bildabike all the way! read more

I love my new bike! As with everything in my life, I do all the research before I make my purchases and I did the same with this. I recently moved to Park Circle and wanted to easily get around the neighborhood and get a little exercise on two wheels. I felt like I didn't need anything serious and contemplated picking something up inexpensively from a local big box store. I looked everywhere from online to Walmart, Target, Dicks Sporting Goods, and a handful of local shops as well. Everywhere I went, I kept comparing everything to the Swift 9 by Coast Cycles which is one of Affordabike's house brands. It's a lightweight city bike with 9 speeds and and great look. When I came in the first time, the staff listened to what my needs were and made some suggestions. I even took it for a spin around the block. Big box stores offer no help, and other shops I went to seemed rather indifferent unless I was laying cash on the table. I can tell you that if you want the most affordable option head to Wally World. They hands down have the widest selection of inexpensive bikes. You get what you pay for but sometimes you don't need much. Target didn't offer much and Dicks was just as expensive (if not more) than many of the local shops entry level bikes. At the end of the day, I knew the service was already superior at Affordabike. They also won my heart with the Swift 9. I like the look and style plus it had everything I was looking for and more. One of the biggest features is that they offer lifetime tuneups on all the bikes they sell which covers the additional cost over time. Although I could have bought three cheapo bikes at Walmart, I was looking for something with a quality build. I love the fact that they're a local company who takes care of their local customers. And going back to my first sentence... I love my bike! That makes me want to get on my bike more often because I'm excited to go for a ride. read more

It was humid and hot . My friend and decided to rent a tandem bike and ride across the Arthur Revanel Jr bridge. The Arthur Revanel Jr bridge is the longest cable stay bridge of its time in North America and the tallest structure in South Carolina. The most beautiful breathtaking view of the Cooper River. I cant recommend Affordabike enough the staff is informative and friendly. Thank you Affordabike for allowing me to see more of Charlestown with your affordable rates. read more

What a memorable experience! Everything you need is provided: helmet/lock/simple waiver/affordable rates/map along with free valuable advice on routes. Luckily I had the owner. He is so personable, even took my photo when I returned, because as he said: I was glowing! So fun! Easy FREE parking everywhere! I am almost 60. The city is flat. Had not ridden a bike for decades. If I can do it and enjoy a day of being a kid again, so can you! read more

Said it would be $30 to fix my tires and when it was time to pay Daniel charged me $56 which was surprising. I think he meant 30 each but either forgot or hid the real cost from me until I had no choice but to pay in order to get my bike back. A little shady IMHO read more

Great rental bike experience. We enjoyed using the bikes to explore a greater area of Charleston. The front baskets with their accompanying bungee style straps were easy to use and facilitated a safer ride. Customer service was always helpful and unfailingly polite. Bike parking concerns were low and preferable to car parking concerns. Traffic conditions always felt safe. Drivers never crowded us, sometimes waved us across a lane to be helpful, and always allowed us to merge into lanes. The 7 speed cruisers offered the perfect mix of stability and functionality (unlike a lot of clunky or heavy bikeshare options in other cities or rental kayaks). These bikes are not the equivalent of rental kayaks. read more

My wife and I visited Charleston for our anniversary and stayed about 5 minutes off of King Street. We decided to rent bicycles instead of walking or Ubering around Charleston. Every morning when we'd head to breakfast or to explore we'd say to each other how glad we were that we decided to rent bikes for the week. We were able to ride though different neighborhoods in Charleston, campuses and explore on the great spots for food and drinks. Truly made our trip that much more special. The guys we talked to at Affordabike were awesome. They gave us a map, food recommendations and safety tips. Loved everything about our experience with them. read more

Afford-a-bike and Bild-a-Bike allow you to find, build and customize your own ride. In for a beach cruiser and wanted to keep it simple and not overpay for .. yup a entry level cruiser bike. Hunter was there to help us out and we test rode a built model. Web site will allow you to customize your own ride or you can do it on location in the store with access to the web site. They will sell your trade in on consignment. Update on 7/10/16. Got my custom ride. It is awesome and all that it was promised. It rides quite well, better than the bike I traded in. Kudos to the staff, experts and service at Affordabike. They have my business (and future business). Their FREE TUNE UP program for bikes purchased with them for the life of your bike is an awesome idea. read more

Bilda Bike - My creation. - Bike Rentals Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

This is my bike shop in Charleston for service and repairs! The service is great with knowledgeable people that can explain anything to you about your bike and not make you feel incompetent. The shop recently got an updo to the service area with covering the area and adding windows and such for a more professional feel. They still did a great job without the updo as well. I've had my bikes serviced here a few times from an annual maintenance to chain replacement to brake cables to new tire and it all went along swimmingly. Their prices are reasonable and you know the estimate before your bike is serviced. If they find anything additional that may need to be fixed or replaced, they will give a call and ask if you would like it done. Check out Groupon as they had a coupon on there once. Never rented or bought a bike but people are always in and out so it must be a good experience as well. read more

Excellent customer service--especially from Hunter, David, and Jeff. I recently purchased a new cruiser from AB that after just a couple of rides, had consistent crank issues. After inspection, the team at AB discovered it was more than likely a faulty manufacturing issue (not common). While it was annoying--things happen. Instead of trading out the bike for the same model, Hunter gave me an upgraded model at no extra cost. He understood my frustrations and time spent going back and forth to the shop for issues on a brand new bike. The team at AB is friendly, prompt, and genuinely care about the customer experience. They have gained my business for all of my biking needs moving forward, and I will be recommending them to my friends in the area. Cheers! read more

Affordabike has fixed (or saved rather) 3 bikes for our family and replaced one mangled seat (it fell off a trunk rack at 80 MPH). All three bikes were in pretty rough shape as they're stored outside. We couldn't be happier with Affordabike's customer service, timeliness, (most important) VALUE. Thank you kindly. Kudos to Affordabike! My wife and I had a great experience with them on Saturday May 5th. That morning we rented one of their red tandem two-seater bikes to use in our wedding "send off" later on that day at James Island County Park. The Affordabike Staff, especially Neal, Jeff and Allen went out of their way to make everything run as smoothly as possible for us. The rental process, loading and unloading of the tandem bike and everything else was nice and easy, with all their help. The bike itself was easy to ride and cruise around with. Also, the "send off" was a success and an excellent way for us to make an exit at the end of a beautiful wedding day! read more

My husband and I came in here on a Sunday afternoon looking for a couple of bikes. We are essentially clueless in this area but shop employee Elijah was able to answer all of our questions, including things about the bikes laws where we live (Goose Creek). He got us squared away in under an hour and even helped us find a bike rack close to closing! Lots of great employees here, everyone was very helpful and knowledgeable. read more

This place is great. One of the best bike mechanics in town, Matty, is super knowledgable. Everyone in shop is friendly and works hard to get you any product you may want. BEWARE OF AFFORDABIKE! I brought my bike to them after $89 worth of repairs, they lost my bike lock. When I dropped off my bike, the lock was wrapped around the bike and when they gave it back to me, it wasn't there. I NICELY asked them if they could give me their cheapest lock in the store because I couldn't take my bike home without being able to lock it up and they told me that I lost my bike lock and they didn't, so they couldn't help me. I remained very nice and calm but they insisted that I had to buy another bike lock ($30) from them and they wouldn't help me. BEWARE OF AFFORDABIKE! read more

I cannot recommend Bildabike more!!!! Danny was incredibly helpful and made the process of renting 11 bikes for a bachelorette party seamless. This place may be ok to rent a bicycle as a tourist, but I will have no other dealings with this LBS again. Very poor customer service. They do not honor exchanges, and good luck if you should ever need a refund. This shop is unknowledgeable of real bicycle mechanics, cruisers are their thing. I will stick to the other, older bicycle shops in town, they stand behind a product, and know how to service. That's what I get for giving a newer local guy my business. Upper King St is all about making a buck from students. read more

This review is a bit tough to write. Rented bikes to get around town during a recent stay. It took a while for my sister to get a decent bike where all the brakes and gears worked. We had baskets put on the bikes which one would thing would be helpful. They were not. They would not stay on, and fell off and jumped around the 2 days we used them. This was on normal, regular road. I mistakenly went over a tiny little bump in the street, and the thing flew off the bike, spilling its pieces and contents like a yard sale in the middle of a busy street. Thankfully, some carriage tour driver stopped traffic so I could retrieve all my bits. The person who rented us the bike also led us astray. She talked about going over the bridge into Sullivan's Island, and then mentioned a water taxi could get us back. We popped into the tourist office before heading out of town, and glad we did. There is no water taxi back from Sullivan's Island, only from Shem Creek or the other Point (can't remember name). And it's unclear as to whether bikes are allowed. She talked about riding over the bridge "nearly every day" yet the details she provided were so very incorrect. Riding over the bridge onto Sullivan's Island was great, don't get me wrong, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat (maybe I'd pay closer attention to the "pop up showers" forecasted and understand that in Charleston that means flash floods and downpours for hours..); however the info we were given was wrong and not trustworthy. I've rented bikes in other spots, and this place is sub-par. The staff could be friendlier, and definitely more knowledgeable. read more

Well........ Affordabike is kind of what you'd expect from its name. Kind of bland. The people who worked there weren't the friendliest but also not terrible. Ok, maybe a little terrible in that they seemed a little bit douche-y. But not mean. I wouldn't judge the shop so harshly if a) it had a better name and b) it didn't make its money from selling cheap, ugly beach cruisers. Dear Charleston: Beach cruisers are not cool or efficient, and they should DEFINITELY not be ridden on the sidewalk. read more

Recently had a great experience with this company. We were new to Charleston and wanted to use a faster transportation to see the town. Found this store online based off reviews and it didn't disappoint. We rented 1 adult bike, 1 kid bike and 1 double seater. All came with helmets and bike locks for $70 all day. This was a great deal especially comparing to their competitors nearby. Bikes were in good shape and worked fine. Staff was well diverse on all their bikes and even made some adjustments for us to accommodate our family. Would definitely recommend in the future!! read more

Very friendly bike shop Came here for a day, picked up a rental hybrid for 30/day. I did a little more biking than probably most, so the hybrid was a better bike for me than the cruiser. I was in Charleston this weekend for a wedding, and my girlfriend & I rented bikes from your shop. I just wanted to say it was an awesome experience. Exploring Charleston by bike is definitely best option and renting from Affordabike was a great decision. The sales manager, Hunter, helped us with our rental and was very courteous & professional. We had a little issue when someone drove over our bike rentals while they were chained up outside the restaurant we ate breakfast at. This was a little frustrating, but Hunter helped setup us with new bikes and was very understanding about a not so great situation. I was impressed with how they handled it and it made a bad situation much better. Ultimately, we got back on our bikes and enjoyed the rest of the day as we rolled around Charleston. Affordabike gets two big thumbs up for their excellent customer service, well maintained bikes and great rental rates. Thanks read more

Just picked up 2 custom beach cruisers and am VERY pleased! I had seen the website and was interested in purchasing a bike, but the deal was sealed when they were featured on Groupon! We ordered our bikes and they took about 3 weeks to be built. The wait time is the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. I was just too excited!! They did tell us that part of the reason for the long wait was the increased volume they were experiencing due to the Groupon orders. When I went to pick up my bike I was helped by 2 men to install a bike rack purchased at a different store. Unfortunately, I didn't know what a good brand of rack was and this rack could not hold the 2 bikes. Luckily, Affordabike had racks in stock and sold me one. They were nice enough to install the second bike rack and I went safely on my way. They have great customer service and a friendly staff. read more

Another excellent experience yesterday. I went in to see if my brakes could be checked and David helped me immediately. He also saw to it that my tires were optimally inflated. Went in to get a flat fixed and had to go back two more times due to them installing the tube wrong, causing additional flats, wasting my time and stranding me in north charleston. My friend bought a completely custom road bike from them costing upwards of $1,000. Upon moving to a new city and continually getting flat tires realized it is because the rims they installed on the bike are not suited for the tires, tubes or weight of the owner! Seriously?! While in Charleston was thankfully able to get free work done since he bought it through them, but now we live in a new city and are going to have to spend as much on new rims as originally paid for the bike. Thanks for nothing and screwing over a broke college student with loans to pay and just trying to use a bike as a cheaper mode of transport in a more expensive city. read more
