This place would be great for family parties, birthday parties, baby showers, recreational activities, and even private functions. Today's visit was because of the MAKAHIKI festival which my sons Cornwall and Hula Halal had performed for today. Aside of the activities for the MAKAHIKI festival, the performance was awesome. Being that they did a lot on their own by themselves for the first time they did well. HOWEVER, to hold an event & to utilize these facilities, you must have MILITARY CONNECTIONS. OF COURSE, Public access is available to civilians, but with LIMITED ACCESS to the beachfront & shores ONLY. Civilians are NOT ALLOWED to use or rent the facilities. I asked the CITY & COUNTY and they said this place IS NOT on their list & as far as for the STATE, they said they have no rental information on these facilities. So... that means... it's through MILITARY OFFICIALS ONLY! To be honest, I'm SURE military will say it's because this is "PEARL HARBOR", where their military is located, they have to take precautions to whom has access to the area. WHICH FOR ME, KINDA SUCKS because this place WAS once where my kupunas (older aunts & uncles) used swim & look for oyesters for food & pearls for jewelry/decorations, WAAY before the HARBOR was built for the military and now... a grandniece of theirs, a KANAKA, has LIMITED access to the area. As a civilian... we're FORBIDDEN from using "THEIR FACILITY". Doesn't really seem fair, doesn't it?! But that's the so called RULES. let's hope in due time there is a way to allow civilians the use of this area WITHOUT military connections. Anywho, if you have a chance to rent this spot, GO FOR IT!!!! And be sure to TAKE CARE OF THE PLACE TOO! Just because military has the say over this area, doesn't mean we should destroy or ruin the property itself. It is still OUR AINA! And Regardless if your ARE KANAKA OR NOT, just treat this place as if it was YOUR OWN HOME. And if you MISTREAT it and say that's how you'd treat your own home, then I can only imagine how embarrassed your parents must feel to have raised such a sloppy individual. POOR THING, YOU... SAD... SAD... SAD... BEING. Okie dokes... artichokes! Have a good one and thanks for reading.

This is a dear former colleague of mine where I saved the date. When I formally received the invitation I saw the venue and asked myself "Where is that?" Oahu Veterans Center (OVC) is a conveniently located venue in the Salt Lake area which has 2 large halls to host gatherings. They are adjacent to ample parking where it was super crowded that day but the grounds were marked to facilitate overflow of cars for those who arrived later. It was my first time here at OVC where I found the venue spacious, clean and the grounds well kept. I initially went to the wrong party as I didn't know there are several halls here. While standing in line I realized it was for a high school graduation party which clearly wasn't the event I was invited to. I made my way to the other hall where I saw a large banner with my friend's name. There's a kitchen that's adjoining to the hall. Food that evening was catered by Guieb Cafe. Our meal was buffet style where the kitchen sure came in handy with food being replenished periodically throughout the event. It was warm outside that day but the venue has decent air conditioning where we sat down in comfort throughout the event during dinner, slide show and hula performances. Overall, a great first time at OVC where I'd be game for a return visit. This is definitely a venue I'd consider if I wanted to host an event.

There's a huge circular couch with some tables in the middle that front a large theater screen and the walls are covered with some pretty legit artwork, mostly pictures and a few paintings. The artwork is for sale. Don't ask me about the price, I only checked the price of one of the paintings and it hurt my eyes! Not only is this theater beautiful, but it would be an awesome venue to have an event at because of the food too! They serve some really awesome finger foods, wait, why did I just say "finger foods?" Let's be real, I was born and raised in Hawaii...They serve some really awesome pupu's! The Design Center is located on Kapiolani Blvd. I rented The Cupola Theatre for a Christmas Function and my rental here was for a short 2 hours, I had additional plans with my guests elsewhere so my entire event was very time sensitive. I have worked with Joett in the past, and she is wonderful, but this time I had a different Event Coordinator. I stressed to the Event Coordinator (I want to spare her name) about the food needing to be out at or prior to 5:00 pm as I will be having my guests eat upon arrival. THE BAD: -Food was 20 minutes late. During the planning of this event, having the food out by 5:00 pm was an important factor. -The Event Coordinator; She was bad at communicating, forget calling her, she won't answer her telephone. Email responses took a few days if any. During the event, I had to ask for her twice, of which both times, she was gone again in a flash. -The first bartender was away from the bar a bunch of times, I had to look for him while trying to greet my guests. -The workers were un-attentive to my party, terrible at refilling the food trays, unable to approach, and un-friendly. -The food set up was unappealing and seemed rushed. -The room layout was a bit different than what was discussed previously. THE GOOD: -Food was absolutely delicious, so flavorful and the perfect bite size for socializing and drinking. My guests were raving about how good the cupcakes were. -The room had an assortment of sofa's, bar tables, and round tables. Loved the mixed match, loved the room, beautiful environment for socializing. -We had our own personal bar set up since we were pressed for time. The second bartender was very friendly and paid attention to our party in every aspect of the event. -Lots of parking in their private parking structure. -Despite the Event Coordinator being as she was, she is sweet and friendly. -I was given a credit and an apology for the mishaps, but preferred better service at full price.

It's sad to see a bunch of 1-star reviews from anonymous profiles based off of 1 terrible party experience, so I feel compelled to share my positive experience. We celebrated my goddaughter's 1st birthday this past weekend, and this venue pulled out all the stops for her celebration. The venue owners did all the decorations and did a spectacular job! As soon as I walked into the venue, I was transported to Hello Kitty land (which was the theme for her party lol) They set up all the tables and chairs with linens that matched the party theme colors. And the dessert table set-up was all taken care of, all we (my best friend, her family and the rest of us party decorating committee) had to do was set up the centerpieces and party favors. It definitely took a lot of stress off of us and we were able to relax before the party started. The venue itself is very well maintained and aesthetically appealing with clean & well-stocked restrooms. Parking is a little tight but I believe overflow parking was available near the plaza with Nanding's bakery. They even had parking attendants working that night and ample signage that lead guests where to park. I was told that they offered à la carte services, such as the Photo Booth, so this business is a real one-stop shop. Overall we had an amazing time and the night went by so fast but so smoothly. The best part was we didn't have to stay behind to clean up, the staff at Kabayan took care of all of that!

It's in the industrial area and at night there is lots of street parking. The Aloha room upstairs is their largest room fitting maybe 50-60 people. I only had about 25 because I wanted to have a lot of extra room. It was very clean and comfortable. There was an attached food room which was perfect to keep our snacks in and set up a balloon arch photo area. There is also an adjoining room (I think it's the Ohana room) that can connect through the food room if you need a bigger space. The karaoke system was ok. Not the greatest but still good. All the mics were on the same channel so the volume couldn't be adjusted separately. One plugged in mic was loud and the 2 wireless were kinda soft. The song selection was decent but there were a few songs I wanted to sing that they didn't have. Some of the song numbers were also wrong in some of the books but were found in another book. Sadly they don't have a website anymore as they get mixed up with another karaoke joint. They used to have one and it showed all the different rooms they offer, so hopefully they get it back up again. Their main advertisement is little posters I've seen around the neighborhood and by word of mouth.
