Looking back at entrance from Nimitz Highway

We've often passed by this Veteran's Memorial Park while driving along Nimitz Highway but it's only been because of a recent occasion that we actually went in. We recently received an invitation to one of our cousin's daughter's high school graduation party which was held at this park. We were excited to wish her well on her high school academic and sports accomplishments as she heads off to continue her studies. As others have described, there is a tranquil garden area and an obelisk as this is a memorial to the Veterans of World War II. The park sits on 11 acres and features camping grounds, a basketball court, a baseball field and 10 buildings. There are four meeting halls with capacity ranging from 50 to 400 people that were built. Along with these meeting halls, there are several parking lots that will accommodate guests. However, I think that if you're planning a gathering here, it'll be best to NOT do it when all of the halls or pavilions have been booked. We enjoyed the graduation party that was held in the Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Hall and were appreciative of the open and breezy layout as we got together with family for this happy occasion. For sure, we were thankful for having a joyous event to celebrate as a reason to come into this memorial park.

"What is: Not exactly a park, not exactly a venue but definitely worth visiting" Whenever I do a morning run to the airport, I usually lazily drive back home stopping at various places along the way back. One of these places has been the Keehi Lagoon Memorial Park. Located Diamond Head of the public Keehi Lagoon Park, this park is privately run and owned. Much of the area is for private use and can be rented for parties, camping, etc. while also catering to non-profit organizations. They do have a beautifully maintained garden area located towards the front of the park, closer to the freeway. A walking bridge, gazebos and other covered areas provide a relaxing visit to this area. Within this manicured and tranquil area is an obelisk which pays homage to the veterans of wars who gave their lives for our country. This is definitely a nice place to visit when in the airport area.

Pros: Venue has lots of space to work with. Lots of parking. Nice size kitchen and appliances to use. Easy access in and out of kitchen from side parking lot, making it very accessible. The option to come in early to set up hall (IF available during morning slot). Friendly maintenance workers that opened hall to let us set up. Clean and accessible restrooms. CONS: Site Manager, INGA was very rude and unprofessional. Speaks to her clients in a very sassy-like and degrading tone. Multiple tables were wobbly and broken. Several broken outlets around stage area. Extremely heavy chairs that make it extremely difficult to stack and maneuver during set up and break down. MY EXPERIENCE: I would have given a 4 star if our experience with the Manager was a little better, but she really ruinned our night. Hall is not as maintained as you think it would be, paying the price you pay. ADVICE: READ your contract thoroughly!! Make sure you know the in's and out's of what you're allowed to do. Note the broken things and bring it to staffs attention, so you don't get charged. Pray no one is in the morning slot so you have lots of time to setup.

I think this is a wonderful place to have just about any kind of event that you may want to have. Whether it's a graduation party, wedding, retirement party, etc. this is a very chill, homey, relaxing, and awesome recreation type of center to hold and organize an event here. There is a lot of space inside and outside the Veterans Hall. I've attended and performed for a couple of parties down here, most of which have been graduation type of parties, and this place can accomodate a mass amount of people if you are looking for a space friendly environment. They have a nice stage for entertainment, many tables and chairs, good caterers to cater food and nice place to set it up, kitchen in the back, decent restrooms, decent parking, and just many more for an ideal recreation center. It's conveniently located just right by the Airport on Nimitz at the end of the tunnel area and beginning area before you reach Sand Island Access Road. There's a nice view and scenery of the Ke'eji Lagoon field area. Just one thing, if you organize an event over here makes sure it's does not coincide with another event especially during paddling events and such or else parking and just overall crowdedness will be a mess. The building that this spot is in looks a little rough, but once you enter Kaeo Studios, it's a vibe! There are many businesses that operate in the same building so parking can be limited until 9pm. This room can seat about 20/30 people and there is a separate little room for kids or people who don't want to be in the Karaoke mix hehe. There is no food served as it is BYOB and bring your own food. The service is always efficient and awesome. I am hoping to book my mom's party here this year!

We opted for the pergola room (teenagers bday party) which accommodates 24. Super cute setup, very spacious, private bathroom (it was kinda hidden!). We were allowed to being in our own food & drinks, & they were kind enough to allow me to have personal decorations put up before my daughter arrived. I can't tell you firsthand how the karaoke system setup is (the teenagers made the decisions for the night) but I do know the songs were submitted via their phones. There a QR code to scan, etc. Either way, there weren't any mixups with the songs, pretty smooth. They do have a one/ time charge of $3 per person, if I remember correctly that's like a clean up fee. They also offer some small snacks. Various rooms to accommodate all size parties! They're located in Westgate shopping center, upper floor (Thelma's Filipino food & Leeward drive in are downstairs). Parking lot is decent sized but can definitely fill up with the number of other establishments here.

There are movable dividers that can change the size of the room, depending on the number of guests. This property in the Salt Lake district is well kept because of the members of the golf club, the housekeepers, and the groundskeepers. Outside, the grass is green and the plants are healthy. Inside, the decor could be updated, but it's functional. We parked in the members' area for free because security said no members would be coming at this time. We explained that we were here for the seminar and the gentleman was very accommodating. We were able to view the PowerPoint presentation easily because we arrived early and selected the best seats. Luckily, we brought jackets because the air-conditioning was on full blast! We helped ourselves to soft drinks in cans, ice cubes, napkins, and glassware. Later, the hot entrées, fresh fruits, cookies, and green salads were ready for us. The steamed fish, BBQ chicken, white rice, Sautéed veggies, and asparagus salad were delicious! Our used plates were taken away efficiently by the polite staff! It was nice to be back! This was a pleasant trip down memory lane!

I asked her what she wanted to eat - and I rattled off some menu items. When I got to the free private parking lot and walked inside, I realized that there's no dine-in anymore. It's just a large space where parties used to happen? The woman at the cash register was helpful. I asked for Hawaiian plate - she said, "Only on Fridays." I asked for Pastrami Sandwich - she replied, "Only on Thursdays." I asked for Chicken Hekka - she answered, "After 10:30." Wow... I struck out three times. I asked, "What do you have then?" She pointed to the Daily Specials list and the hot entrées in the warmers. I selected Hamburger Steak, Boneless Korean Fried Chicken, and Beef Stew. When I got home, I told my sister about the encounter and we laughed... everything we talked about wasn't available... LOL! We tasted the three dishes: Korean Boneless Fried Chicken had a light batter and subtle, pleasant flavor. Beef Stew was tasty and the meat was very tender! I liked the Hamburger Steak the best because of the savory gravy, slightly crisp onions, and homemade patties! The rice and macaroni salad were additional comfort foods! Overall - generous portions and great, old school experience!

This place would be great for family parties, birthday parties, baby showers, recreational activities, and even private functions. Today's visit was because of the MAKAHIKI festival which my sons Cornwall and Hula Halal had performed for today. Aside of the activities for the MAKAHIKI festival, the performance was awesome. Being that they did a lot on their own by themselves for the first time they did well. HOWEVER, to hold an event & to utilize these facilities, you must have MILITARY CONNECTIONS. OF COURSE, Public access is available to civilians, but with LIMITED ACCESS to the beachfront & shores ONLY. Civilians are NOT ALLOWED to use or rent the facilities. I asked the CITY & COUNTY and they said this place IS NOT on their list & as far as for the STATE, they said they have no rental information on these facilities. So... that means... it's through MILITARY OFFICIALS ONLY! To be honest, I'm SURE military will say it's because this is "PEARL HARBOR", where their military is located, they have to take precautions to whom has access to the area. WHICH FOR ME, KINDA SUCKS because this place WAS once where my kupunas (older aunts & uncles) used swim & look for oyesters for food & pearls for jewelry/decorations, WAAY before the HARBOR was built for the military and now... a grandniece of theirs, a KANAKA, has LIMITED access to the area. As a civilian... we're FORBIDDEN from using "THEIR FACILITY". Doesn't really seem fair, doesn't it?! But that's the so called RULES. let's hope in due time there is a way to allow civilians the use of this area WITHOUT military connections. Anywho, if you have a chance to rent this spot, GO FOR IT!!!! And be sure to TAKE CARE OF THE PLACE TOO! Just because military has the say over this area, doesn't mean we should destroy or ruin the property itself. It is still OUR AINA! And Regardless if your ARE KANAKA OR NOT, just treat this place as if it was YOUR OWN HOME. And if you MISTREAT it and say that's how you'd treat your own home, then I can only imagine how embarrassed your parents must feel to have raised such a sloppy individual. POOR THING, YOU... SAD... SAD... SAD... BEING. Okie dokes... artichokes! Have a good one and thanks for reading.
